Hey all ive got an arc and last night I finally done the bootloader and root ive never done this before so I just installed the first one I came across that I thought was right this is what im running is this correct? Or more to the point is there a better one for my phone? Am I also right in saying there aint a huge amount of different roms for the arc atm
My phone
Arc
3.0.a.2.181
Lt15i
Think that all the relative info there if anything else is needed just let me know
you may try the latest ROM, LT15i 3.0.1.A.0.145
to also obtain root for that ROM, thread here
Thank you very much so the higher the end number the newer it is? Ill keep a look at that thread...... Do you know of any changes this will fix give? ''i think'' I noticed when I rooted using the one I have now my android firmware thing went from 2.3.3 too 2.3.2 or am I seeing things.... Will the new Rom give 2.3.3?

There have been so many posts regarding new roms/kernels for the r800x and I've changed mine so many times but have gone without a camera for too long now. I want it back and honestly can't remember what build I had that gave me a camera. I want to say I was using FTS but can't swear to it.
SO here's my question:
What is the *best* kernel/rom I could be using for my phone that will let me use the camera?
I'm going on a trip next week and would like to be able to take pics on the go. Thanks in advance for any input. Personal opinions welcome.
Doomlords V3 kernel worked and gave me camera/wifi with 2.3.3 USA and 2.3.3 UK stock systems' , you can always flash a stock kernel in stock/custom rom and camera/wifi will work that way to.
Im using r800x aslo.
the stock 2.3.3 system that's in the state of development thread? If that's the case I'll do just that. Thanks!
yea, stock 2.3.3 system.img works with doomv3 and v4 im pretty sure. Ive flashed so many different combos of systems/kernels in the past week its getting hard to stay focused on what works and what didnt lol, Im gonna flash 2.3.3 on doomv3 and double check right now for you
stock 2.3.3 with doom v3 didn't work... I just redid the stock kernel as well so it did work... is it possible I did something wrong, or is your memory fuzzy (wouldn't blame you! I don't remember half the crap I've flashed on this!)
So from stock now, the only thing I really want is overclocking while keeping my camera (and preferably wifi) am I SOL or is this possible?
side note: maybe I was under the wrong impression, but can I use doom kernel v4 with 2.3.3? It said it required FW v4.xxxxxx and I didn't see an r800x compatible one. Can you point me in the right direction?
edit 2: tried doomv4 and stock 2.3.3 and same situation. Everything fluid except no working camera. It freezes after the shutter sound.
Hah well just incase my memory is fuzzy i started over... heres what i did.
I flashed full 2.3.2 ftf just to make sure I'm full stock. Then I flashed dooms v3 kernel and then flashed 2.3.3 system img. Both cameras are working 100% for me and mms send and recieve. No wifi tho its rebooting when I turn on
how did you flash the 2.3.2 ftf? I have flashtool installed but couldn't seem to figure out how it worked. I would power down my device, hold the back button while plugging it in so the light turned green. Then I would select flash and the ftf file but it gave me a continuous error. Thanks for all the help btw.
I think when you use flashtool you have to wait to plug the phone in, until flashtool gives you the pop up asking you to plug it in. No prob tho
I'm going to give it a shot when I get home in a few min and let you know how it goes.

don't I feel dumb, the only reason it never worked before was because I didn't install the flash drivers... doy. Flashing now.
I have my r800x running on Firmware 4.0.2.A.0.42 along with DooMKernel 5v2 and everything works for me (although I don't use the mobile data, only wifi, so I can't vouch for data working)
you have a r800x on at&t? I could be mistaken but I thought they had a different version, since it's a gsm network isn't it?

No lol, I have a different phone on AT&T. My r800x is wifi-only
Well that sounds awesome, where'd you get the required files? The firmwares of 4.xxxx were all for gsm plays and couldn't even get my phone to boot with any doomv5 kernels (tried 1.6 and 2.0)

This post has a guide on how to get 4.x firmware on r800x

Oh and make certain you use DooMKernel 05 test 2, and NOT 05 test 1 (test 1 doesn't work for anyone)
what does everyone prefer for their kernel
The preferable kernel is a tough question based on what phone model you have and in some cases what you wouldn't mind having broke on your phone due to changing your kernel.. fair to say I think

Hello everyone this is my first post so I'm glad to have all the help I can get as I am completely clueless on rooting(Real Noob on this really).
Ok so the reason why I want to root my Xperia Arc S is because I want to be able to completely put apps in the sd card and keep downloading apps without worrying about deleting app data/cache or even whole apps to get more apps installed. The Xperia Arc S's internal memory is really annoying. Even though you can move an app to the sd card part of it will still be in internal memory which will eventually fill up. So basically having apps on this phone without custom rom or being rooted is very limited.
Yes I've watched the user registration agreement video thing. I have been looking for 2 days now on how to root my phone but unfortunately because of my phone's model(LT18A) and it being 4.0.4(which I kept reading is unrootable), it is extremely hard. It's like, I am the only person in the world who has an Xperia Arc S LT18A ICS 4.0.4. I've found very few articles on how to root xperia arc s LT18A 4.0.4. I think first I gotta downgrade it to 4.0.3? Even if I find one, it's for LT18i(like 95% of all the xperia arc s) and most of the links for LT18A don't work anymore
So how do I root it? I got flashtool but the only firmwares I got are the one for LT18i and x10.
Xperia Arc S
Model: LT18A
Build number: 4.1.B.0.431
Android Version 4.0.4
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9
Read some sticky guides in general

Ok now I finally got to unlock the bootloader of the Xperia Arc S LT18a which I found really hard. Now I understand this enables you to install custom ROMs but the phone still needs to be rooted which I haven't done as I've tested with ROM manager.
So.....What does having it unlocked really do? If I have my phone rooted but the bootloader's locked, then I still wouldn't be able to install custom ROMs? Is that it?
Also, now with my bootloader unlocked, will I be able to access recovery mode like how people used to do with the Sony PSP?
Now to the hard part. To root Xperia Arc S 4.0.4 LT18A.
4.0.4 - Unrootable and have to downgrade. The problem is finding ftf files is really hard only because I have an LT18A model which is like being a unicorn..
I'll spend one more entire night looking for that rom and I'll let you know how I'm doing.

Read the guides and stickys! "a" or "i" doesn't make your Phone any harder or easier to flash.

I have finally rooted my phone successfully. I've to thank the maker of this guide and all the other developers involved http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1874801
You were right sir. I flashed tfts and kernels that had lt18i in its file names but still worked out.
xperia arc s
mate im having the same issue with my arc-s
if i have any luck i will let you know what to do and how to do it
Hi Everyone!
I have an Xperia Arc that I got through Rogers. It had been running Gingerbread 2.3.4 and the ICS update didn't arrive until a year after I got my phone. I read that it wasn't really recommended to do the ICS upgrade even though it had become available (according to Sony). I had been waiting for SO long to check it out that I took my chances on the 50/50 good bad reviews on it and went ahead with the ICS update when Sony/Rogers released it.
BIG MISTAKE.
At first I didn't think it was that bad - but now after having it for a few months- I HATE IT. My phone runs like S***. It's slow laggy.
I had been wanting to root my phone for a long time (I want to get rid of all the bloatware software and be able to use firewalls and tweak CPU speed).
I was all ready to root and use a custom ICS ROM - but I thought about it and I would rather have GIngerbread back on my phone. My phone was awesome when it had Gingerbread and all I ever want to do now is smash my phone - it just can't run ICS properly.
So here is what I want to do:
1. Root phone - I have already downloaded FLASHTOOL, and the DOOMLORD V4 Rooting tool.
2. Flash phone and get RID OF ICS
3. Install a custom ROM
I just need a bit of help.
I need clarification regarding the ADB Drivers.... I have read in numerous places that by just having the up to date Sony PC Companion that you will have the ADB Drivers needed - and I already have the most up to date Sony PC Companion.
I also need some tips regarding ROMS and KERNELS. I understand they are different and they have to be compatible but when I was originally getting all my files for ICS all I found was a kind of 'all in one' - maybe I was confused - and this is why I need some clarification. Do I need to have a separate ROM and KERNEL otherwise then what do I do?
THANKS!!!! rEBECCA

Thank you for your quick reply. I had actually already read it. I DID read it again though... I picked up a bit more knowledge from the 2nd read but it still didn't clear up a few things.
I'm still not clear on the ADB drivers, I saw all the tutorials about ADB for noobs etc but I'm reading on a LOT of places that just having Sony PC Companion installed and up to date will have the ADB drivers...
I should also let everyone one know that my phone is a ROGERS phone, so my bootloader is LOCKED. I have figured out that there are some ROMS that will work on a LOCKED (carrier (rogers) bootloader.
I currently have Android 4.0.4 (I did the update when it came avail to me and I regret it - i really need gingerbread back) I would also like a rom that doesn't have all the Rogers 'bloatware".
All I want to do is undo the stupid ICS update I did and get rid of that HORRID Rogers bloatware!
Through all my reading over the last while I've learned of 'omnius' - I guess it will unlock my bootloader, root, flash and do lots for my phone. Anyone else recommend this for my situation?
Flash a stock GB ftf and go from there, which will debrand your Phone in the process.

Hi guys. Although I rooted my own Samsung ages ago, I haven't had to root anything in ages and my bro in law has asked me to look into rooting his Arc S.
What I seemed to be noticing is the need to unlock the bootloader first but I'm not sure where to start.
Is there some sort of 1-click method at all? He does want to stay with the stock OS so it is only the root he wants.
Thanks guys.
There are many possibilities to root without unlocking bootloader. Searching would have exposed you with many guides.
First of all - What are the Android version and build number of the phone?

Hi. I have posted earlier a working version of how to do it.
You can find it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=49240275&postcount=1378
This post shows how to get Ultimate HD on your Arc S, but has working links to programs and ROMs, so you can use that.
I personally do recommend Ultimate, because it is just so much smoother. My phone was lagging and all the programs were slowing it down, but now it's super smooth and I always have space in the ROM.
Soon I'll post a complete recommendation on how to get the most out of your Arc S.
Hope this helped.
thanks guys.
the android version is 4.0.3
the build is 4.1.A.0.562
These 2 topics will help you. Both root your phone, which one you will use, is up to you (which ones seems easier).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1601038 - this one works only on 4.1.A.0.562
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2219711 - should work on every firmware
Kindly help me. I rooted a friends device, but since i have rooted none of the roms work properly. Actually I had not updated the stock rom to latest version. Just unlocked the bootloader and rooted the phone. I need to revert it back to stock without bricking the phones. I have rooted and played with HTC phones as well but never had any issues.
As far as i know for Xperia SL we need to go to flash mode and flash the Stock rom using FlashTool for Xperia Devices.
Can someone just provide me links to the stock rom for SL.
I know itz noobish to ask what i am asking. But itz a friends phone and i dont have it for enough time to do research and try eveything hence need a straight foward approach. Thankx a lot i hope i am not a bother

A little search always helps You out and it would have definitely taken less time to search than write this post! Here is the link anyway.
