(FORUM PLZ HELP)
Not sure why you have 2 threads about the same thing.. but anyways..
You might want to try out Mobile Odin
https://market.android.com/details?id=eu.chainfire.mobileodin.pro
It's $3.99, but well worth it.. I think anyone messing with custom ROMs and rooting their phones should have this just in case.
I'd actually like a youtube tutorial on this same process. Mobile odin confuses me a bit after using pc odin for years on my vibrant.

You should have AP selected. If not switch it to AP and see if that works.

You can technically create an update script to flash via CWM and flash everything but the bootloaders...
there are some more advanced ways to flash bootloaders manually.. but I wouldn't recommend it unless you REALLY know what you're doing.. You can brick your phone, so it's not even worth it. I'm not sure they can even see the bootloader version anyhow, so it doesn't really matter.
Flash a stock rom without root, flash a stock kernel, wipe data and everything to factory default and reboot.

You don't need root access to flash the kernel, since you would still be on custom recovery. So yeah flash a stock unrooted rom, then proceed to flash a stock kernel with stock recovery.

Or if for some strange reason it doesn't work in that order just flash the stock kernel first (it won't change until you reboot) then flash the stock rom without root.

So the only close enough to stock rom that i found is this one should i use this one ????? damme this is a headache http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1415924
You could also use terminal emulator on the phone and run the script from sfhub thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342728) to install stock EG30+stock recovery, and run unroot script straight from the phone. Then just use file explorer to delete the 000root directory.
Since your phone wont recognize the computer you can always copy the files over by using a sd card reader.
So i went to the sprint store...and i told the tech support guy that my phone was not connecting to my computer and he took a quick look at my phone and said did you rooted??? and i frozed and he continued, if you rooted your phone then thats the problem. i told him that it was more of a hardware issue not a software...he wasnt even paying attention to me.. he just said stop messing with the phones if u dont know how to how to fix them.. i was so madd i felt like throwing him my phone at his face.. but then i thought to my self.. my phone is not messed up.. it just doesnt recognize my phone.. plus i got the XDA community..

What the hell is going on with these phones??? Me + 3 others have all started a thread today with the same issue! What could be causing this???
Wow... i just even did a dial code hard reset of the phone and i'm still having the same issue --- ughhhhhh frustrating
Just take your phone into sprint with it rooted. The first thing they will do is return it to full stock to see if that solves the problem. Sprint's policy is to service all phones rooted or not. Just expect it unrooted when they hand it back.

Was running a restore via CWM this morning, but there was nothing happening for a good 20 minutes, restoring from Darkstar to Calkulins (GB), so I left the phone alone for a while. An hour later, says is restoring data (no progress bar) and so after another minute, I rebooted the device. Of course, now I only get a blue LED(nothing on screen) and I cannot seem to get into ODIN mode or recovery. Any ideas?

Have we come to any consensus on what is causing these bricks? It seems to happen often when using CWM to restore between ICS and GB. Or is it something else entirely? I've always just used Odin and haven't had any issues yet.
OP. Could you provide a little more information on your setup? Specifically ...
1) The recovery (specific version) you were using at the time you made your GB Nandroid backup
2) The method you used to flash Darkstar, and how you obtained custom recovery after flashing it and the version of said recovery
3) The recovery (specific version) you tried to use to restore your GB Nandroid backup
We need to find out what is corrupting the data partition and making it un-usable and un-repartitionable (yeah I made up a word).

from what I've read, it sounds like its either people coming from ics to gb like you said, or (and I'm really not sure on this one) they are trying to restore a backup from a different kind of recovery and there is being an incompatability at some point. Like restoring a backup made in rogue recovery in cwm recovery. I really don't know though and I'm kinda scared to test it as you can imagine.

1) CWM Touch 5.8.1.5
2) CWM 5.0.2.7 (sensing a variable)
3) CWM Touch 5.8.1.5
I started with darkstar this morning, from calkulin's via cwm 5.0.2.7, then did a flash from rom manager, via cwm, to cwm touch. From there, without rebooting, I backed my ROM and attempted to reflash to calkulin's via cwm touch. That's when things went icky.

So touch recovery is involved yet again. I'm assuming this was Koush's CWM Touch recovery, and not Team Rogue's version? If it was Koush's recovery, did you download it and flash it or did you install it via ROM manager?

Okay ... VERY VERY VERY likely that this was your issue.
Lesson learned I guess, but this info is all over the place here on XDA. DO NOT use ROM Manager to flash CWM Touch. In fact, do not use ROM Manager at all, and I'd go further and say avoid any Touch Recovery for now. If if you insist on using Touch Recovery, use Steady Hawkins' version (although I believe he took the link down until this gets sorted out).
Don't know what the issue with the recovery and restore is but I've been dealing with galaxy s phones from all different carriers since they came out and its impossible to brick them. Like the other guy in the thread stated you need a USB jib. You plug it into your phones micro USB port and it automatically puts it in download mode and then you can use ODIN to flash what you want.

Not in this case man. I know it defies all previous knowledge, but this problem is stopping even Odin from being able to re-partition and write to /data.
When using ics 3.0 kernel to flash or restore you have a good chance of a brick .....Odin back before restore ....please read people

It looks like you may have used the AOKP fd24 kernel which breaks root :\. I would try reflashing the el26cwm (with odin on your computer), booting into recovery and reflashing a3. There is a version of darch's fd24 kernel floating around some where that doesn't break root, but i've heard it may have other issues.

A couple of days ago I also lost root after flashing TCP's AOSP FD 24 kernel. I solved it by using ODIN (pda slot) on my PC to flash darchstar's FD24 kernel. Root was regained and my CM9 a3 otherwise still running smoothly.

Hey guys, I need some help,
I have been using CleanGB v1.1.2 for a long time. Recently, I've been having a huge problem. Whenever I use ANY ROM, after about ten to twenty minutes, my phone just becomes *slow* as molasses. It's unnerving. It could be at the bootloader screen... it could be in the ROM itself... but if I'm using ANYthing but the stock ROM with everything unrooted, the phone just goes slow-as-*&#^-as-*&&& and I have to pull the battery out after ten to twenty minutes.
Any ideas?
My ROMs aren't corrupted. I've tested them all and I've tried installing and rooting from different computers with the same problem. I have tried CleanGB v.1.1.2 and People's 2.2.1 and Thunderhawk 5.1. All have the same problem after ten to twenty minutes.
EDIT - I should add that I have rooted (even as of today) other people's Epic 4Gs and none of them have had the same issue as mine, so I know there's something going on with my phone, in particular.
The only thing I can think may be doing this is that I use the CWM flash + the FC09 rom method to root my phone. Maybe I should be rooting it using Odin as I used to do back in the day.
When I go back *from* the root to the unroot, I always re-partition and time reset in Odin with a stock ROM. No problems after that.

Hey KG,
Yeah, I think I need to go back to performing the rooting procedure from ODIN. I just can't seem to find the links to that online. God, I've turned into an ultra-n00b again.
What do *you* think is the best way to root using ODIN? I think the problem is that I've been rooting using the easier, flash-to-CWM in Odin and then flash the rooted ROM from CWM. I think I need to do it all from ODIN and repartition at that level.
Epic Touch or S3 here I come! LOL!

Is it happening with your new phone as well? I recommended flash the rom of your choice do not install any apps for a day or two. If all is fine install one app a day till you find which app. My guess would be a app that you use that needs root because it doesn't happen on stock. Just my 2 cents.

Hi there, i am currently on the CM10.1.2 build. Phone works, but started getting weird problems on the ROM lately so i decided to try to clean flash the rom again through clockword recovery v5. After doing the usual factory reset, wipe cache, re flashing, etc. After restarting the phone, nothing i did seemed to take effect. So I tried the same thing with a a differnt ROM, noticed that doing the factory reset only lasted like 3 seconds, when usually it takes about 10-20 seconds. So at this point, i tried to ODIN back to stock 4.1. Phone passed through but took zero effect.. I have no idea what to do at this point,
other weird symptoms that my phone had were; automatically turning on when USB plugged in.
Has anyone experienced this, could it be my clockword recovery is corrupted, but even so, ODIN should be able to work..

ill try that now,
also, after a RR(random reboot) earlier today, a message popped up sayig; system error; you need to re partition or partition your phone, and some other error. There is a re-partition option in Odin, but i have no idea what it does and dont want to accidently brick my phone.
Any thoughts on that

Never had that error, but I have read that checking re-partition can brick(hard brick?) your phone. So I would not mess with that option until you do some research about it first.
so i tried flashing the CWM6 through PDA, no luck, then tried flashing it through CWM5, no good either.
and i might have to look into the re partition thing, it might be a potential solution. if anyone else has any knowledge or similar problems, please help me out, running out of ideas
edit: is there a way to go back to stock via kies, or is that only for non-rooted phones

Never check that option, it will seriously damage ur phone if it even boots after, ur best bet is to go with twrp, it a better recovery and has all the newest flashing scripts, try using Odin and PDA to flash the tar file from the link above, I've never seen a phone tell me to repartition it before that's strange bit I wouldn't suggest it, twrp by far has never failed me yet as cwm is rarely updated so sometimes u get errors with new roms

I've always used 1.85 ,don't think I've even used another version as its always worked for me, have u tried loading the tar file into PDA slot, not boot loader, I never touch boot loader, click PDA and try to odin the file from there, and move to twrp, its better, if that doesn't work I'm lost, but I'll help as much as I can, how about flashing a ROM, does that work or does that not take too? Really?? I did hear they were supposed to find a fix for it but they never did.. does it matter that the phone is rooted? Because I have no way of uprooting at this point.
Def a hardware problem though so no reciept or anything should be nessesary I'd think?

No, 9 times out of ten they never power on the phone, my buddy had the bug and they had him send it in, came back a new phone with the latest firmware...(edit) he was rooted as well so no issue with the phone rooted
