Hi All,
I've been happily using the old version of Amon Ra's recovery for at least six months. I'm wondering if it's really necessary to to the update? I'd father not flash a new recovery unless I have to.
If it is recommended, I know that ROM Manager doesn't support 2.3 yet, so is the best way to update placing the PC36IMG.zip in the base directory of the SD card?
Many thanks!
Tim
ROM Manager may still show 2.2, but it flashes 2.3.
If you aren't having any problems with 1.8, there's no reason to upgrade to 2.3. The new main feature is you can select which parts of the system you want to back up in a nandroid (data/system/wimax/sd-ext, etc).

Up to u to upgrade or not but it also has new feature to wipe specific parts of phone ie .. system, data,...plus a few others that wernt in there before
Its worth it to upgrade 2.3 has a tad more features when it comes to backing up.

I just did some changes and am starting to get failures. I had portioned my sd card with clockworkmod in rom manager and did not find the option to change ext2 to ext3 so i left it be for a few months.
I then got pri zip for 1.77_003 that required RA recovery since clowckworkmod 2.5.0.1 would not allow me to install the zip for new pri (root users). Flashed RA 1.8.0
As a froyo 2.2 user, it gives the option for me to auto update apps in market, so I use it. Since I am in a small area that has sprint 3g with 2 bars in AM, and roam with 3 bars in PM, it will start the update then fail. I loose the app as it removes the app before installing new version (removes then fails to install update), also I have just learned to undo partition and happened to loose all data on card while doing so. Was a shocker to me. I have lost some apk apps that were not on market and can't get those apps from market to install now. I lost adobe air and superuser for sure and can't get them to re-install.

It's happens with adobe air too, and something else i didn't catch with the triangle with ! in middle on taskbar before a reboot.
I am running http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=743352
And I lost ClockworkMod 2.5.0.1 when I had to flash RA 1.8.0 to get pri 1.77_003.zip to flash. CW fails to flash in rom manager ever since I got pri update to flash with RA. Have made several attempts to get it with failure since update to new pri.
Hope I don't have to re-root with superuser app files to get it back.
That should have covered all details as to where I am at now.
Please help with something if you can.
Yes this thread is a question.
Questions are:
Does anyone have the superuser apk that will install, adobe air, and any apk's I may have forgotten that might show up later in thread? (will post as I remember or realize they are gone)
Hi!
I am total new to android, I got my HTC Desire for 2weeks now, I search the internet and on this forums and it seems to be nice to root my desire, now im a bit scared to do it, what can go wrong? Can I lost data? do I need to backup first? after I "rooted" my desire i still have the stock android 2.2 on it? (and with all my settings, messages and contacts)? my desire is an unbranded device. I heard that unrevoked 3.2 can root my device? what are the requirements for this? if I go to system information on my desire it shows that i have kernel version: 2.6.32.15-g6a358a9. So can I root my device? Do I still have warranty if I root? I got my desire for two weeks now so I don't want to brick my phone. I got a PC with windows 7 x64 and a laptop with windows 7 x32 and Ubuntu dualboot.
Can someone help me what I need to do?
(sorry for my bad English I am from Belgium)
Thanks in advance!
What software version are you on (same screen as the kernel version)? You want to make sure you can get an RUU file incase you ever need to go back to stock.
Rooting in itself won't wipe data. You will if you change ROM, though. Why do you want to root?

I took a picture so you can see all that stuff.. what you mean with i can get a RUU file? I want to root because then I can use apps2sd because i almost get always an notification that the phones memory is almost full :s so i need to remove other apps to install an other sometimes. And maybe some theme stuff but im not sure, because you need a custom rom for that right? or you think its not worth to root my desire? are there performance improvements? with stock or rooted ?
Thanks for the fast reply!

Well after struggling trying to understand flashing roms and what not I found the easy way..rom manager app from the market place...they do have a free version witch you do have to install regardless if your buying the premium..witch I did buy it to for support..after I perm rooted my phone I downloaded rom manager..clicked on the very first on to flash clockworkmod recovery..went down to back up current rom I named..went back into rom manager clicked download rom clicked the first one than bacon bits..to get bacon bit and overclock my phone to 1497mhz..its gonna ask you if you want to back up current rom I did not checked the box cuz I had already done it, than it gives you another box to clear the cache..witch I did check the box..let it do its thing took another 5 min..after it rebooted I was all done..but I did have to download all my apps again..unless if your google backup just downloads them for you..and now I just finished flashing the htc sense on my g2..everything work really nice..and the cool part is that all you have to do is go into your rom manager app..click on manage and restore back ups and you could just switch on whatever rom you want..if I want to be running froyo ot htc sense..one click away..really nice

That's awesome but u are preaching to the choir. Well some of us. I'm thinking about buying the paid version. I think it lets u download rom updates. U should check out titianium backup. One click restores apps and app data. I have the paid version one click restore.

Lol..na wasnt preaching...but thanx I'm gonna download titanium back up..its just I'm a new to flashing roms and stuff and this is easy for me

IT should be stated that Apps ONLY should be installed from one rom to a DIFFERENT rom.
DATA is highly NOT recommended to be copied over.
Data transfer is the reason most roms dont run properly after being installed.
Using appbrain is the way to go, IMHO
buy the full verson it is worth every penny ive had since my g1 but it keep unrooting my g1 for some reason so used amon ra recovery but if you r on a g2 now the full version is a must have!
Hello there!
First time I rooted my phone I ended up without a phone for a whole day as I couldn't restore my original backup. I had to install a stock rom and now I'm a happy CyanogenMod user.
Question is:
I tried doing a backup again with rom manager today just in case. I had 1.9 gb in my sdcard. It was going ok but then it said no sdext...skipping sdext..and soon after it booted back.
This is exactly what happened last time so before I go ahead and try another ROM such as MIUI I want to make sure my current ROM did safe properly and I would be able to restore back to it if I wanted to.
Sdcard now shows 1.4gb so it definitely took some of it. Any way to confirm a backup?
Thanks in advance

Unless you formatted your SD card to have an EXT partition, it'll always skip that part. To confirm a backup was made, use any file explorer and navigate to sdcard>clockworkmod>backup, the folder will be there.

That's pretty much all you have to do.
Hello,
I have a HTC Desire Z with perma root, S-off and Clockwork recovery, however I'd like to update to the latest official rom of Gingerbread. I assume to do this that I have to remove my root, S-off and recovery, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me how?
I read that I'm not supposed to flash certain files with S-off or I'll get a bootloop, so could somebody advise me what to do?
This is my specs:

You've posted in the wrong forum - you need to post in Questions, ideally.
Just installing the official update via RUU (there are guides, search the forum) will put your phone back to stock - but you won't be able to undo the changes without a LOT of work. Why do you even want to do it?
You'd be better finding a modified and rooted version of the latest stock f/w, surely?
Sorry, I Wasn't paying attention to what forum I posted it in.
Could you recommend me a rom that's closest to the latest stock as possible?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=837042
This is the most stock you can get with a sense ROM
Thanks, one final question.
Do I need Clockwork Recovery 3.x? I'm on 2.6.x right now and I know that in 3.x they needed new partitions, I assume I'll need to update?

Latest is 5.0.2 but you can just install it through rom manager. to be able to flash GB roms you'll need a recovery higher as 3.x though since this is the one that can change partitions to ext4
just wondering, do you want it stock for the rom or for warranty purposes?
The reason I wanted stock was because I never use root and I didn't want to mess up my phone.
One final final question:
Will my 2.2 Nandroid dumps work on recovery 5.*?
