I am happy to buy apps that I think are worth the money but I think it's totally unfair for google to have apps priced in Dollers / Euro's for UK people.
The reason being, if I were to purchase an app for say 99 Cents or $1.99 or Euros, I get charged £1.50 fee by the bank.
Surely google checkout can convert the price to the location of the phone / user and avoid extra charges on top?
You need to speak to your bank cos it sounds Like your being ripped off .. the 1.50 fee only normally applies to atm withdrawals . The most I've been charged for an app at 99c or $1 is around 4p extra think it should be standard so u need to take it up with ur bank !

My bank deem the transactions as currency conversion as it's $ or Euro's to sterling.
I can't see why Google checkout cannot just sort it at their end.
I'd change your greedy bank mate! Mine does not charge for converting and the conversion rate should take into account costs.
Its a US company. Why shouldnt they charge in $?

Yeah my bank does this too, its annoying to say the least.
I spoke to them today and they said there is nothing they could do.
My Google checkout account uses my Lloyds TSB credit card as the payment method and I'm not getting charged anything extra when I buy apps listed in USD.
Time to change your bank I reckon

Interesting. I only use credit cards for online transactions, just to get that extra bit of cover. Actually another factor... my credit cards are the "Airmiles Duo", so one mastercard and one AMEX, and it's the AMEX card I generally use for Google Checkout. Don't know whether that's a factor
The developer choses the currency he wants, not Google. I really think you have a problem with your bank so it's not fair to blame Google.

Yeah but google could make it so that all apps are paid for in the currency of the consumer, like apple do on the app store.

So what banks are you guys with that don't charge you?
I am pretty sure I never got charged when I had a Maestro card.
Well I reactivated my LloydsTSB Mastercard and ordered something from overseas. No charge this time so I think I'm going to switch...
I use my Halifax Visa card and have never been charged for a transaction when paying for items in US Dollars, Euros, or £ Sterling.

So today I noticed my work place replaced a old snack machine with a newer nfc pay pass vending machine. My question is.... I purchase a star burst for 85 cents but on Google wallet I was charged 1.50. Fee for using maybe or get credited back for difference?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
Based on the info from the Google Wallet FAQ, it shouldn't be a wallet-specific charge.
How much does it cost to use Google Wallet?
Nothing. Google Wallet is free to shoppers, whether used in-store or online.
Are there additional charges for payments via Google Wallet?
Merchants will not incur any additional charges for payments via Google Wallet.

Could the machine possibly have a minimum purchase amount for credit card processing?
OK I got lucky and there was a lady refilling the machines and I asked her. She said they place a hold on the card and within 48 hours it will correct it self.

Some vending machines charge a "convenience" charge for taking credit cards. I spent an extra .50 for a Pepsi when I didn't have any cash. LAME!!!

Those "convenience" charges are against the TOS of the card processors (MasterCard/Visa) as it discourages people from using the cards. If you file a complaint with the processor, they will demand a correction to the fee, or they will revoke the vendor's right to take the card.
Just wondering, how many people have/use google wallet. I just don't know what the big fuss is about. I have pay pass on my debit card and i hardly use it.
for those who use google wallet do you gotta have the app running or is it like NFC?

It opens the app for your PIN when you set the phone on the terminal, you enter the PIN and place it back down, and it makes the sale. It initializes with NFC to know to accept the payment.
Slightly off topic, but did anyone receive a $10 credit after activating a Google Prepaid card on Google Wallet?
Imagine a credit/debit/giftcard that doesn't physically exist in your wallet but you can use it at certain stores to pay for things. That is what the big deal is.

Unless they open up more cards where I can link my debit, I don't plan on using it much. Linking all the crappy loyalty cards would be a real plus, I hate the space they take up.

most definitely pending. ive never seen charges go through on the same day.
Could be a hold, I guess. The entry is "10/25 ATT K008 9969 BETHLEHEM PA $297.68". There's an identical entry for $1, which is the "is it valid" check. I remember at checkout there was a message to be sure the card had enough balance for the charge on the ship date, or the order would be canceled. That contradicts with the idea of them putting a hold.
Anyway .... something to talk about while waiting. Did anyone else get charged?

Yes, when checking out, it said a hold would be placed for the amount of the purchase. The phones will ship out starting on Nov 6 and the charge will go through and show up on your statement..

Min has the full amount as an authorization. Should fall off in a few days if I am correct.
mine got charged this morning too for the full amount but doesn't say anything about an authorization.
Mine got charged too because it was flagged as possible fraudulent activity, and Visa called me.
I even told the lady, they weren't supposed to charge me yet, but oh well.
Yeah the only think on my account were three 1 dollar charges.

It depends what kind of card - Usually debit cards get charged or a hold for full amount. Credit cards get a different deal, varies from bank to bank. If you don't have the funds. and its a check card or debit card, don't pre-order - it will not go through. Usually it drops back off in a 3-6 day period, then re-charged, over and over until it ships ( at least that's Best Buys MO. )

Used a credit card. There's definitely a hold in place, but the transaction hasn't cleared yet (and presumably won't until it ships).
I'm the OP. Just want to give an update that the charges have dropped off my CC now, as others suggested it would.

I don't have an upgrade until 2 days before release. I'm curious to see if actual charges start showing up on 11/5 (indicating shipping, of the order), instead of the reported shipping date, of 11/6.

They gave me a $25 discount, but I don't know why. So the $297.xx was what was left after adding sales tax and subtracting $25.
After fulfilling the requirements, nothing. I called Samsung and they said they will "investigate". Still nothing, and the promo is over. Kind of a hard way to earn $20. Hs anyone been successful in getting it?

I did not get it instantly. This is how you have to do it. When you go into the Samsung Pay app you have to go to the "more" option on the top right. Then click on "promotions" and find the promotion in the list. You have to accept the terms and conditions before it will send you the digital gift card. Hope this helps.

Thank you, Volfan. Yes, I tried that also. I'm wondering if it was because I used an Amazon.com card. It is underwritten by Chase and can be used anywhere, so I don't consider it a "private label" card, which is excluded from the promo. Of course now the promo is over, so can't try another card.
I made a purchase and got confirmation in the app that I had earned the credit. But it got stuck on the last step--loading the rewards card--despite trying repeatedly over several days. I e-mailed Samsung about it, but haven't heard back--I suspect they're dealing with bigger issues.
Got mine right away
Here in Cambodia, samsung pay isnt even available. Such a complete let down. Why cant this kind of service available worldwide?
