Does anyone know how to fix the volume buttons when they get stuck. My volume down keeps on being a problem. Just randomly muting and booting into safe mode when it turns on. It's also hard to press

have the same problem
same problem here. seems like a simple problem, but makes the phone totally useless.
rather strange how suddenly this problem arises with 3 different cases in just 3 days.
For me its definately a hardware issue. The phone had blatently been dropped as there was some damage there. It wasnt even clicking when I pressed it. I seem to have got it to work again now but Im going to try find a spare part for it in case it happens again although finding one seems to be an issue.

Hey Guys,
My Power Button is not working anymore...
Therefore the only way for me to power off my phone is using the battery pull method, yes i know...that's just super ghetto.
Anyways, I was planning on opening my phone for a number of reasons, mainly curiosity and attempting to tighten my hinge which has become particularly loose over the past week.
I have consulted the guides in the forum on how to do this, so i am pretty much prepared to do so.
Is there something that I can specifically look for that is causing the power button to not be functional in my phone where I can go inside and perhaps adjust something and fix it.
ex. flex cable such as the one for the touch panel and led.
On a side note: My in-ear speaker seems to also have some problems, for it does not output sound as loud as it should. It is very faint, however the external speaker and the usage of headphones is fine.
Any Solutions?
Thanks in advance bros.
this isn't much help but, out of curiosity , how do you turn your phone on then if your power button doesn't work?
battery out and in lol...
the phone ends up booting up so, yeah.
the annoying part is that I want to install ROM's and stuff but without a functional power button I don't think I will be able to do that .
I am trying to look for some sort of location within the phone that is responsible for the function of the button which is connected to the digitizer/lcd.
Hopefully it is replaceable...
Your phone boots when you put in the battery, without you having to press the power button?
Sounds like you have some serious hardware issues. If your warranty is still in effect, you should send it for repair or replacement. If you open the phone and void the warranty, and you can't fix the problems, you're screwed.

The misunderstanding is that you failed to mention that your phone is plugged into the charger when doing the battery pull.
Open up your phone, fix the wire, reconstruct than test.
LOL man that's funny what happens when ur phone dies how do u get it back on.......do you think the rom ur using is causeing the problem and you also don't need power button to install new roms just click install from sd card in rom manager

Hey! Ive made some research and i think its a common problem on DHD, i mean i have to really push it so hard to work , im sure its hardware, i just cant give my DHD for warranty as its over, so i was looking if anyone knows how i can actually fix this thing :S
I'm not allowed to post links cuz i'm new..
but if you search google you can easily find a new volume button for your DHD.
dhd volume button
I just ordered new DHD volume button on htcrepairparts.com for 9.9USD. I will take photos when it arrives.
Any idea on how to install it? I couldnt find instructions on the web.
i have the same problem with the volume up button. It could be hardware.. since it has problems in recovery too. It's working tho.. but VERY HARD to press.
I think there is a video on YouTube to how disassemble desire hd . Plz use it and see of u can fix the buttons . Ill be waiting later

i had exactly the same problem but somehow solved. it is not purely a hardware problem. i figured out that, there is a connection between proximity sensor and vol. buttons. its something about proximity sensor but i can't really tell you, i couldn't understand the reason exactly, maybe a driver issue. if you are using custom rom, try formatting(not wiping, full format) cache-system-data, wipe dalvik cache and install a stock rom(or cwm backup). then install custom rom again.
also you can try tapping proximity sensor while your button is not working. mine started to work after tapping several times(than broke again of course). after that experiment, i thought proximity sensor is somehow blocks vol buttons.
Hi , I'm having problems with my Galaxy T999. I have rooted and have not yet installed any kernels/roms. The only thing i did was installed a couple apps from the play store . and wanted to check out the CWM recovery menu and was going to try to installed "hyperX camera mod". First thing i did was shut off the phone . Then pressed on the Volume up+Home+Power button . After doing that my phone didn't turn on or anything , no vibration or anything . I hooked it on with my computer and press the power button and it was able to connect and then disconnected. I am at lost now and can't seem to find any answer . Have looked every where not sure what to do now. Any solution will be much appreciated .
***
It seems to disconnect due to no driver found for QHUSUB_DLOAD .
Without any solutions I'll probably gonna get my phone replace . T_T
Does your phone disconnect immediately, or does it stay connected for a brief amount of time? If it stays connected briefly, try using adb during this period to boot into recovery. The command is "adb reboot recovery" (without the quotes).

Try to remove your battery then plug in charger. See if you can turn on. If you can turn it on, leave it 30 minutes. Then put in the battery.
By the looks of the result the computer gives you when you plug it in, seems it is hard bricked! Are you sure you didn't flash anything from the I9300 section like a rom?

The hyper x camera mod isnt entirely for our phone. I've read that it's flashable to our phone though, so I'm not sure what's going on here. Maybe the OP needs to link where he got the mod. Ih and stay away from the intl version all together.

Yup its a paperweight. The Intl version has the system partition in a different place. So you borked an important one.
Only thing that's throwing me off is that the OP suggests he didn't actually get around to flashing the mod.

That's a good sign! Looks like you're able to enter Download mode. Download Odin and flash a stock ROM.

I pretty much got the same problem except with an i9300. Is there any way to fix a hard brick or does it need a new motherboard??

SGS3 T999v wont start up.
My sgs3 t999v would turn off by itself every other time I hit the lock button.
like I would be txting and then if I hit the lock button it would turn off.
So I though a factory reset would fix the problem. (volume up + home).
after the reset it still kept turning off randomly.
and now I cant even get it to the normal interface. or get in to the manual reset mode.
Device was previously jail broken, however was returned back to stock and was working fine for 3 months.
I had my otterbox on for every fall my phone had, so I dont think it would be a hardware issue.
the phone was running 4.1.1 I believe.
stock rom.
help please! :C

Can you get download mode? (Volume down, HOME and power)
Even though you have a case on it, it sounds like it was probably damaged by one of the falls. Most cases as far as I'm aware mostly protect the display. The shock from impact can still damage internal components, even with a case built with this in mind.

Hey thanks for replying!
I drained the battery and got a new charge in it and managed to get it booted up
however now the problem of the lock button is still here.
like if i use it to lock my screen it just turns off on me, and it takes multiple times for me to get the phone up and running again.
you could see if you could find a widget or widgets that will basically put a button on your screen that can power off, enable lock screen, reboot recovery/download, etc.
Then just use the HOME button to turn the screen back on.
It sounds to me like a hardware problem, but if you can flash another Rom and do a full wipe/factory reset you'll know for sure.
I hope this helps. Not sure what else you can do besides getting it repaired or replaced unfortunately.
Maybe someone else will have a better idea though.

Yesterday my phone just started rebooting randomly in a loop, it would get to the launcher and boot up completely but would just automatically reboot, as soon as i would the put the battery in the phone would turn on without even touching the power button, i was able to get into recovery and wipe/reflash my rom and that seemed to fix it but then my power button stopped working and the rebooting issue returned, i wiped and reflashed etc and did this twice and now i'm stable but i'm afraid the issue will return.
What is the issue?
What/how should i update to a new rom?

Check for defect in your power button

Sent by XDA Premium
how do i even check for defect? i saw the other thread where some guy posted a picture but i couldn't even tell what he had done
Only way I could see you trouble shooting that is by taking it apart. If you do be careful with the screen
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Keep in mind that this is a hardware issue and changing roms is unlikely to fix it. Unfortunately, if you can't fix it yourself you're going to have to shell out $35 on a repair or just have to deal with it.
who does the repairs? regular sprint stores?
SGH-7989D
This phone will sometimes partially boot into the OS but constantly vibrates. It's running stock firmware. When I put it into download mode it vibrates and goes black and just keeps vibrating, this black screen and vibrating has now become the phones native state. The vibration almost seems like a boot loop but I've never seen this happen in download mode before.
Any suggestions?
Sticky power button
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda premium
Sounds like a sticky power button. If you're willing to take your phone out you have a possibility of fixing it.
The original thread from where I learned how to solve this can be found HERE.
I go into detail on how I was able to fix the problem myself HERE.
Good luck!
