Having recently gone S-Off (and bricked and unbricked my phone, big learning experience!) I'm wondering....
Currently running Insert Coin V2 Sense ROM with the CM7 HBOOT. Now I like this ROM a lot but there seems to be an issue with it detecting a 100% battery but apart from that it's also killing my battery very fast - understandable given the size of the battery and what functions the ROM is providing.
That said, I'm going on my hol's later this year and would really like a ROM that goes a bit easier on my battery and I'm looking at the Oxygen AOSP ROM. I know, non-sense and I'll miss that but I'll miss my phone a lot more if it can only handle an hour or two in an internet enabled pub!!!
Oxygen runs its own custom HBOOT, I have no issues with installing that. Insert Coin also runs its own HBOOT, both are of course different.
If I Nandroid backed these up, would a restore also restore the correct partitions? I'm suspecting that that would be too easy and it won't. Anybody else been in this dilemma where style over function can be detrimental?
Just updated my radio to the very latest (5.17.05.23) with no issues too so I should be good to go on any ROM going. I've got a class 10 16Gb SD card on its way so I'm hoping that I can have a couple of ROM's at my disposal via recovery but must they all have the same partition table (aka HBOOT) ?
Hello there,
Unfortunately it won't restore the correct partitions. If you go for the Oxygen HBOOT, and install the Oxygen ROM, the battery life is pretty sustainable.
You can go for about 24 hours (with minimal use) with this ROM, which is fantastic - probably even more with WiFi turned off etc (Gingerbread). When I was using the Froyo version of the ROM, I could get 30 hours easy out of it.. 24 hours with light usage, and about 16 hours of heavy usage.
Your best bet mate is to go with Oxygen if that's what you want - you never know, you might actually enjoy the ROM more than InsertCoin . And in fact.. Trailing back to your original question..
If you want to go to Oxygen, feel free to flash the HBOOT - Remember to Nandroid your InsertCoin ROM first. The Nandroid won't back up your partition table, but you can in fact flash the CM7 HBOOT and restore the Nandroid of the InsertCoin ROM at your wish and that'll be perfectly fine.
Hope this helps!
Oh and by the way, I'm running Gingerbread Oxygen now, and I'm sure this doesn't look too bad, no?

Excuse the lack of battery life on that picture!
Dan.
Many thanks my friend, that was exactly the answer that I was looking for. It's all clear now.
I'll miss my Insert Coin though Will give an AOSP ROM a shot though, carrying a spare battery and a portable charger just for a couple of hours in the pub tops is a bit overkill....
And my current Insert Coin homescreen...

When you say insertcoin v2 you mean the insertcoin hd v201 or the gingersense one? Have used both and highly recommend the second. It's got everything in hd plus more plus gingerbread plus better battery

Aye I know what you mean.. Carrying an extra battery around may be the only choice as well unfortunately. I love the Desire, I do admit.. Though I just wish it had a long battery life, like the (blasphemy going to occur) iPhone!
Sense is nice also

HTC recommended solution!
1) Turn your device ON and Charge the device for 8 hours or
more
2) Unplug the device and Turn the phone OFF and charge
for 1 hour
3) Unplug the device Turn ON wait 2 minutes and Turn OFF
and charge for another hour. Your battery life should almost
double, we have tested this on our devices and other agents
have seen a major difference as well
I was very reluctant but after trying it I must admit it does work!
Good Luck!

In my opinion the battery recalibration doesnt work..
I mean, after that, the battery show 100% for a very long period (this good), and goes to 90% jsut after a long period (this good again).
But after that, it starting going down faster than the normal behaviour OR sometimes the phone power off its self when the battery is still more than 10% instead to power off when the battery is at 5 % as usual.
That what i've noticed.
That is calibarting your battery need to do when you get the phone initially. you cant do that every time. Honestly if you do that your battery will be Sc***ed

Ohhh *****y!
Not being *****y, the OP posted something that's already on here so of course they're going to get flamed...my response was to the guy calling me a prick (and it would seem they think there's a swear filter on here, that or they're just so cool they use numbers instead of letters)
Some nerds spend too much time on forums
Not a nerd mate, just have an interest - work gets boring time to time and when I'm not DJing I need something to take my mind off things...if you're going to try and talk a good game you'd best be able to back it up
As a quick note, this method doesn't work per se but it gives the impression of longer battery life - it stays at a high % for longer but then drops off quite quickly
... after all that....
right then people. lets be constructive and help a chappy out. I've recently had absolutely sucky battery life. It was OK with LeeDroid 2.2e, latest radio, but then I upgraded to 2.2f and everything went to pot. Seriously, just with moderate use I was getting 12 hours at best. Overnight charge, unplug at 7am, by mid afternoon it was switching off again. This is not how it used to be.
So I switched to Oxygen 0.1.3 Beta - still sucked
Now on CyanogenMod - which I love, but battery life still sucks. Trying various radios, but IT ALL STILL SUCKS!!!
I've now switched over to 2G only, turned off auto sync and mobile internet, except when I want them, just to get through the day.
Help!
I have searched and there are generic answers, all of which I have done. I have recalibrated (don't start that flame war again please) and found negligable benefit.
Your thoughts would be much appreciated (short of buy a bigger battery).
Have you tried a stock ROM at all? It could very well be something in the custom ROM(s) you're using. At least then you'd know if it's the handset itself

Hmmm... interesting thought. I may well get a full on Orange UK RUU on the phone and see what happens. I'll report back if and when I get round to it and test it out properly.
There's your issue - there isn't an Orange RUU
You could try a stock WWE one, though (with a gold card)

I'll do this method I think:

That should work, for the sake of trying an RUU I'd just go with a stock one but thats your call
Hey guys.
I'm currently the owner of an HTC HD2 that's running a NAND installation of Android 2.3. (HyperDroidGBX)
I have a potential trade in place to give someone here my HD2 for his G2.
I was wondering if you guys could tell me what current ROM seems to be the fastest for the G2.
I'd like to do some research before I pull the trigger on the deal, and any info you can provide would be extremely appreciated. I know there's no such thing as a "Best" ROM as everyone's tastes are different, but there's usually a couple that stand out speed-wise.
Thanks!

Thanks, I'll read up on that one.
What exactly is the whole "nightly" thing?
HD2 has them as well, and never understood what it meant.
nightly means it gets updated nightly.
you don't flash a new rom but every night there's a new update and changes are made to the rom
do you like HTC Sense? if so, go Virtuous
if you prefer not to have HTC Sense, then go CM7. Start with the stable build then when you're confident, go nightly.
Ultimatedroid is the fastest hands down. Any of the gingersense type roms are decent. But for smooth and fast UD is where its at regardless of what certain people might say in response to this..
Sent from my Vision using XDA Premium App
meXdroid meXperia rom definitely. Most themed and efficient. Quite smooth
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Mexdroid! It's built off CM, and has great custom theming and other tweaks.
Personally I am sticking with the stock (rooted) ROM until CM7 goes stable (and is proven as actually stable)
For me stability and all features working is paramount, that philosophy drives me to wipe every time I update, since getting everything back the way it was after I wipe is a PITA I will only update if I know that the new build will work for me for several months at a minimum.
As I understand it RC4 is almost there (there still seem to be some lingering GPS and other issues) but since the final release is likely imminent I don't want to wipe & install RC4 only to wipe again in a few weeks to install the final release.
If you don't feel the need to wipe between updates (which IMO produces instability) or you don't need 100% reliability in general I'd say go for RC4.
Dude, all roms i use r stable 98% of time. Don't stick with stock cuz u hear bad stuff. Reputable roms are daily drivers. Any problems pop up i just reboot and usually they go away. You're missing out bigtime yo

I don't mind a few hiccups in exchange for customization.
I'm running HyperDroid GBX on my HD2 right now, and it's awesome. Really fast, stable, and generally fine for a daily driver.
Wouldn't mind something similar on the G2. Sounds like the CM7 nightly might be the one.
Although knowing me, I'd probably try a few anyway.
I like a clean look, which is why I like HyperDroid so much:

The G2 I'm getting is untouched. It's on stock ROM, no root, etc.
I've read on some threads that rooting has a high risk of bricking the phone. Is this true?
I have only done work on the HD2 so far. Plenty of experience with that, but I never really ran the risk of bricking as long as I had the right radio/ROM combo.
I used to have hd2 and develope for it now I make a close to stock gingerbread build 2.3.3 based on cm7 newest nightlys removing almost all cm stuff it is really fast and greet battery life
Use gfree method worked for me and to have less of risk don't flash enginnering boot loader. That's the only way to brick your phone

I know im going to get flamed on this for making 'another better rom for battery thread' but ive been away for two weeks and i see some new roms are out for jellybean, i am currently rocking AndroidMe Cm10 rom, but would like to try a different rom for better batterylife. (its not the best as is ..) i know you guys are going to say every device varies but chances are what most people are getting better battery life on so will mine... so what would you guys reccomend? i really dont want to revert to TeamGummy 4.0.4 (ICS) but if i cant find a better batterylife
well, a better battery life is mostly up 2 the kernel, screen brightness, wireless and network usage, other settings r just familiar of most roms.
though ice has a better battery life than jb, i think
the GUMMY doos have a good battery life 'cause it's using the imoseyon kernel:good:

Not trying to flame you but you answered your own question in the OP. Every device varies along with the way each person uses it. I don't have any technical expertise to fall back on when choosing a ROM so it's mostly a trial-and-error process. Flashing a different ROM or kernel is fairly simple, so just experiment and see which one gives you what you are looking for. I rarely, if ever, got the same performance that other users reported when I had my Evo. And lastly, read what other people are saying about a particular combination. XDA has no shortage of people willing to try out new things and let the rest of the community know how it worked. The last 3 pages of a thread are usually the best place to look and see what kind of success/failure rate is happening.

well, in the 2 weeks that you were gone, there have been amazing breakthroughs in development! The battery now lasts almost 2 weeks with on avg 17hrs of screen on time!
*sigh* just look at the kernel threads and youll see, its not like there's 70+ kernels

Just wondering, what ROMS have you guys tried and genuinely thought "Wow, the battery really is good".
I've been trying Renovate since version 8 and battery on my device has been pretty poor, on AR-HD it's quite regular, don't have any issues with it.
I'm sticking with Sense and haven't tried any other Sense ROMS and that's why I'm asking.
Also not planning to switching to AOSP ever.

I've read in the thread an update is coming though, any idea what the changes/fixes will be?
I think ARHD V9.7.2 have more stable and better battery performance to JB ARHD 16!
I have over heat issue with that!

I used ViperX for a long time. That has always given me the best battery life. I've even been able to get up to 6h of screen on time with heavy internet use.
If you're looking for a JB sense ROM, I had great battery life on both InsertCoin and OrDroid. Nowhere near ViperX, but still good.

Had a PM asking how I manage to get 6 hours of on screen use and thought my reply might help others, so I'm going to post it here too.
"Hey man,
That was with ViperX 2.7.1 running the AOSP theme.
Yeah I've had 6 hours, or near to it, quite a few times now. I actually use the stock kernel included in .zip.
I also desense the rom and mainly use the phone with about 30% brightness. Also, make sure feed sync is switched off in Facebook under the accounts and sync area in the settings because that's an absolute killer. I still have Plume and GMail set to sync almost all the time, but with Facebook on, it totally destroys the battery. If you want to sav even more battery whilst increasing battery life, switch everything to manual sync.
ViperX is an excellent choice. I've used loads of the new JB sense roms and none can compare to ViperX for battery life and the excellent mods included.
Hope this helps."
Hello everybody!
So I bought this phone about a week ago, and it is fantastic. I got used to those back buttons really fast, and the performance is pretty good. Not the best, but it's good considering the fact that I had a Galaxy s2 before.
Anyway.
A few days ago I decided to test the battery, so I charged it at 100% and played San Andreas for 30 minutes.
When I checked, it was at 91%. That was pretty good for me.
...
Yesterday morning, I woke up, unplugged it, and started browsing 9gag.
I was shocked to see that the battery was around 85% after only 10 to 15 minutes of browsing.
I thought it was the app, but when I checked the battery stats, it only consumed 1%.
You can see in the screenshot that the screen is taking a lot of battery.
I always keep the brightness at 40 - 50%, never at 100%.
I also don't have any "memory cleaning" apps or crap like that.
So. What can I do?

if you want good battery life
first start with the software:
root the device install greenify and amplify
if you've changed roms or dirty flashed ones just remove the current one and reinstall it i prefer cloudy 2.5 cause it's awesome with some basic simple kernal
you can underclock the cpu and gpu
remove useless apps
try changing the battery if it 2 years old with a genuine one from LG
for me am rocking cloudy 2.5 with greenify and amplify installed with 90% brightness and wifi always on and it get's me 4:30 to 5h of SOT
good luck mate
Well I just bought it and I don't want to lose the warranty.
I know that I can root it and flash a better rom, but I am wondering if I can do something with this one.

Simple answer: No.
Long answer: No without root you're not going to come out anywhere.
And judging from your posts / questions you don't bring the skills necessary to customize and debloat
(no offense but it takes time and is really easy to mess up resulting in the opposite as in more battery drain)
your stockrom properly that 's why it would be simpler to just flash an well prepared Rom instead.
Simple solution: 1. Root it, 2. Install TWRP, 3. Backup, 4. Wipe, 5. Flash Fulmics or Cloudy.
After that you have a solid base (a properly debloated rom) you can search for guides regarding Maximizing Battery life.
Or you could just skip flashing Fulmics / Cloud and move straight to this point and keep your Stock Rom.
Anyway - root is a must have for getting battery under control (and there are countless threads regarding battery savings around).
Cheers
Thanks for the answer. I am going to root it and flash a proper rom.
