[Q] Update problem... - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I go to install the HTC Gingerbread update it starts to download it a little then an exclamation mark inside of a triangle pops up with a little android beside it. It stays there until I press the home button and restart my phone. And it still says the update it ready to install. Any help?

[Q] Stop system update notifications?

Hi all,
Has anyone figured out a way that works of stopping the constant system update screen from popping up?
It is trying to push the update to me which i cannot install because I am on EG31 and honestly currently liking EG31 just fine for now.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks a lot.
You can install the update now with a downgrade to eg30 first.

Sorry to hijack the post but I said "Yes" to the upgrade about half hour ago and it still hasn't come back, it's showing the white triangle with orange exclamation mark and the android robot.
I installed Midnight custom ROM on it and I'm affraid this upgrade will brick my phone.
What do I do? Someone please let me know.
Thanks!
It won't brick your phone, it just won't install.
Press a few buttons on your phone like [Home], [Back], and/or [Power] and you should be able to get rid of the logo screen and see what is behind it.
Thank you for your quick reply.
I presed and held the [Power] button a few seconds and the Clockwork screen came up and then the phone rebooted. Now it's back to same screen.
Hope this helps anyone.
check this page out, there is script to stop updates... click here

[Q] Unable to get to Bootloader Galaxy Nexus

Guys, I unlocked and rooted my Galaxy Nexus but kept everything stock. Downloaded ROM manager and the first thing I did was make a recovery for myself. A few days later, when the 4.04 zip was leaked onto the forums, I downloaded the file and flashed it. I havent messed with anything since.
Come today, I tried to do another back up in ROM manger but my phone does nothing after I execute the commands. Then I tried to reboot into recovery, but nothing happens.
I was able to get into recovery manually (holding down the volume up AND down keys with power button) and when I selected "Recovery" all I got was the android with an open chest plate with a Red Triangle and Black exclaimation point. Screen stayed like that and eventually booted up normally.
I tried to follow the steps listed in this thread to delete /system/recovery........p file and then reinstall cwm http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1399265
but the problem I'm having is that I am when I try to delete that file with Root Explorer with the mount set to R/W, I get a msg that says it cant be deleted because its read only.
Did I lose root access by flashing 4.04? Is there a way to fix that? I'm still relatively new to all of this so if anyone can tell me whats up in a dumbed down way I'm all ears.
Thanks,
Appa
Emm, there's no need to delete old recovery. Just download recovery image you like, place it o your PC, reboot phone into bootloader and flash recovery.

But I think that's the problem: when I try to get into recovery, I get the dead android guy with the red exclamation point And phone just reboots

Press both volume up and down + power button when you see that. It will bring up the menu.
Flash Clockwork, boot into recovery, and Flash a custom rooted rom.
Droid-Life wrote a quick tutorial just in case

All updates revoke your root access, and replace any custom recovery with the stock recovery (which is the little android with the !). You will need to re-root after every update, and you will need to delete the following files (/system/recovery-from-boot.p and /system/etc/install-recovery.sh) after every update, and you will need to re-flash your custom recovery after deleting those files.
P.S. To access the menu in the stock recovery, when you are at the screen with the android, hold the volume up key and press the power button.

[Q] Stock Recovery

I've come to Android via CM7 on my HD2, so I am used to CWM. How does the stock recovery work? When I power on with vol down held, I get the bootloader screen and can select Recovery. From there, it goes to a black screen with an Android in the middle, and just sits there until a red exclamation mark appears.
What happens next? Doesn't seem to do anything!

Wut? Did you flash the custom recovery? Because it sounds like you didn't flash nuts! Stock recovery is for the manufacturers to update your phone's innards. Custom recovery is for people with itchy fingers who wanna load custom roms and blahblah.
See Official ClockworkMod TouchRecovery Mod
stock recovery is supposed to do that. while it sits with the icon on screen it is waiting for a technician to connect the phone to the pc and send data to it.

Problem updating to to 4.2 thru OTA Android Robot exclamation!

I do not know what is the problem of my device but I have encountered this issue and still persistent. I have unlocked Galaxy Nexus bought from Play store. I got the notification that the 4.2 is ready to install but this what happened to me during the installation process, i got the android robot with the exclamation mark. I reset my device and wiped everything and try to install the OTA and I still get the same error. Is there a problem with my GN ?
go to recovery mode, hold power button + hold vol down and up button.. after that, hold power button and volume up.. navigate to wipe data(factory reset), reboot device and your Gnex will be back to stock again.

OTA 4.2
If your rooted i would just flash the OTA version via recovery, there are also other methods that you can get the 4.2 onto the phone by manually flashing the Image manually via terminal
