[Q] Rooted Evo "Factory Reset" - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My friend has a rooted EVO 4g with the stock ROM. He has about a bazillion applications loaded and his phone is slow as ****.
Is there anyway to factory restore an EVO? He wants all applications removed (he moved most to sd card) and a factory reset to occur. I didn't know of a way to do this so I figure, I will ask here.
He is okay with losing root for now, he can get that back.

He can run the RUU for his phone, which will restore it to stock, out of the box, or he can just go to Application Manager in setup and delete them one by one OR, he can use root explorer, go to /system/app/ and delete them that way, if he knows what he's doing.

Menu > Settings > storage > factory reset.

Yeah I was wondering what that does exactly. Does it just restore settings to default or remove all applications AND settings.
Thanks a lot for the responses

It will remove everything as it was given to you out of the box. This is only if you are using the stock rom. If the phone is rooted, it will keep the root.

EDIT: (FIXED!)[QUESTION] Titanium backup Pro not registering apps!

Last week I backup my apps and after it finished it said I had zero apps. I updated busybox and superuser still no go. Anyone have this happen to them before? This Is the first time this has happened to me. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling. I'm on cm7 with savagegen kernel. Thanks!
Edit FIX: Just in case anyone runs to this problem down the road.
Titanium developer e-mailed me back. Best thing to do is to delete the Titanium Backup folder within the sd card root and that's it! (You can use any file explorer, I used Astro).
I have had it once....try running the problems then reboot.
This epic reply brought to you by none other than my roxx'd out Evo.

Thanks, I'll give this a shot!
no work
Try "refresh apps list" from menu. If that doesn't work, find Titanium Backup in "Manage Applications" in Settings (not the Pro key) and clear data.

That is done from settings > applications > manage applications > [scroll] > then clear data for the app.
Thanks for the reply guys. Tried the refresh and clear data under settings, still nothing.
i would try a different version of TB 3.7.4 is the one i last updated that worked flawlessly, non of the more recent ones worked as good for me
Try pressing Menu > Filters, then click Clear then Apply.

Wiping data for the app should've done that, as should reinstalling, but it wouldn't hurt.
If you need an older version check the TB website, you can find it on the market page. You can also try emailing the dev, he's helpful and may have some insight into your problem.
Aside from one version a couple of updates back, I've had zero problems with the app. I do know that one update required you to update the pro key as well, but I don't know if the older version requires the older key or if either will work.

I tried the menu and filters and no go.
Also tried installing an older version, from the link on the developer's site. Didn't work, I'll try e-mailing the developer again. Thanks for the help everyone.

You will find there is already a how-to thread explaining how to root and what it accomplishes.
Does it detail how to back up my whole device's data?
Use mybackup, or Google'sbackup/restore service (settings-application I think) to backup your apps. Unlocking the boot loader will wipe your settings, so you will have to set those up again. It is worth it though...

Google's backup does not work, at least in my experience. The box was checked before i did a factory reset. I have re-installed a few apps and their data wasn't reinstalled by Google. Also, the wifi setting weren't re-installed
It doesn't back up the data, does it? just the apps themselves as it auto-installs them from the Market when you sign into your account on an Android handset

[Q] "Sync' Option Causes Reboots

My i19082 goes into a constantly repeating reboot cycle if the "Sync" function is activated. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?
Thanks in advance for any comments.

More details? Rooted, or installed any custom mods or etc? Try factory reset, if else not working then you will have to flash your firmware again.

Thanks for the response. I'm a novice - how do I find out if the phone is Rooted? How do I do a factory reset? Or, where can I find information on these issues?

Alright, if like that means you haven't play anything on your phone yet, To resolve that, go to Settings > Backup and reset > factory reset your device.
Warning all apps will be lose your apps and all will be reset to default. (*just like you have newly bought your phone)
You can backup your SMS messages using SMS Backup & Restore app. Search for it in Playstore, If you want to backup your contacts, just export your contacts to SD card.

Or, you can try remove all your account and add them again then disable the Sync, See if it helps, if not, try reset your phone. If you are very unlucky even after reset the problem still presist, you should sent to Samsung Service Centre, maybe is hardware related issue.

Way to automatically reinstall apps after hard reset?

Does anyone know of a good way to automatically reinstall apps after a hard reset? Just to be clear, I want to reinstall from the Play store, not from Titanium or anything like that.
I've seen a lot of stuff indicating that that if you turn on Google Backup, it should automatically reinstall apps after a reset, but this does not seem to be happening on my 10. Thanks!
I should add that after a factory reset, the phone asks me if I want to restore apps and data from one of a list of devices. My 10 is not on the list, so maybe the problem is that the backup function is not working? I am running Viper ROM, if that matters.

do u have the "backup my data" under backup & reset settings menu enabled? also do u have the backup account set with the correct account?since your on viper then u use a custom recovery so there is an app u can use called "zipme" that creates a recovery flashable zip of any or all your apps, u just flash in recovery after reset and all ur apps are restored
Try Helium, copy the backups on internal storage to sdcard, after hard reset, copy them back, make sure you tick backup data. I haven't tried this yet, but I have restored individual apps
Sent from my HTC 10 using XDA-Developers mobile app
You have to turn on "Back up my data" & "Automatic restore".
Anther way, go to Play Store on you phone, swipe from left, go to "My apps & games", then go to the "ALL" tab (or swipe right), then long press on any uninstalled app, it will highlight it, then tap/select on all the apps you want to install (one by one), then tap "INSTALL" at the top right.

The last couple of times the backup account has shown up. Not sure what changed. However I'm using Helium and it's working well. I looked at zipme -- hasn't been updated since 2013?

Htc 10 root

Hello, i would like to root my HTC 10 and also maybe get some custom ROM. I watched many guides on the internet but every method is different a bit. So i would like to ask here because im bit lost in these guids.
1. Can i root without loosing all my data? If not, what should i use as my backup app or method?
2. Can i somehow backup my apps, so they will install automatically after the root? I mean without 50x clicking on "yes i accept" or something like that.
3. Which roms would u recommend to me and why?
4. What is the best way to root it right now? (all these guids are from year 2016 so it can be outdated i guess)
5. Thanks alot.

1 & 2. If you want to root your phone for free you'll need to unlock your bootloader first, which will wipe your phone anyway. Your apps should automatically be restored from your google account afterwards, if you have automatic backups enabled. You should still backup all of your pictures/music/files manually to your sd card or computer. Also I like to backup my texts and call log using Call Log Backup and Restore. Same for whatsapp, or any other folder you want to restore afterwards.
3. I use stock. Leedroid and Viper are probably the most popular ones. Close enough to stock with many customization options.
4. Best way to root is through Magisk. Doesn't modify your system and you can hide root for apps that don't allow it. If you go straight to a custom rom after unlocking your bootloader, you won't need to root separately.
5. You're welcome.

Settings, Backup and Reset.
Not sure if enabling it will immediately back everything up.
After your phone is wiped, it asks you for your Google account and then which apps you want to restore. Not sure if app data is backed up/restored as well.
