Hi I'm thinking of getting a dhd on Tesco mobile does anyone know if it will Get
2.3
I'm pretty certain it will, are they even branded from tesco mobile?
HTC have said that they will be updating the Desire HD to 2.3, so I think you would get the update ...eventually.
If you simply can't wait for gingerbread then you could always take the risk of installing a custom 2.3 based rom, theres plenty in the DHD 'Android Development' section

What are you talking about. HTC have already updated the DHD to GingerBread, so have many UK carriers. I'm fairly certain though that Tesco phones are all unbranded anyway, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
I do hope they are unbranded..... Having a nice phone with Tesco logo on it would just make me laugh where ever u are there is a Tesco lol

I have a friend with a DHD who's still waiting for his update, thats all haha
I might be wrong and hes just unlucky
Its branded just like o2. I seen for14 quid a debrandkit that consists of a SD cardandu flash the Tom to stock ill get 2.3 then. I'm sticking with Tesco cause they cheap as chips lol
The Desire HD on Tesco is probably the best network. I bought mine in Vodafone and it was packed full of bloatware (Vodafone this, that, soundhog or something). Where as my dad purchased the phone on Tesco and its pretty much a clean stock rom. His came on 2.2 and we just updated to 2.3.2.
Tesco Rocks, Vodafone Sucks.

The official word from HTC has finally arrived, the FroYo update is starting this weekend, beginning with unlocked handset owners in Europe.

Great news!
Can't wait to see this beauty on my Desire. Time to get my Data stored and start from the beginning...
Great. Looking forward to wifi tethering.
My desire is from VirginMobile.... I think its unlocked as I can use o2 sim cards in it as well. Am I safe to assume it is unlocked and I will be able to update over the air?
Thanks,
Rich.

Rich, if you bought it from a network like most of us, you will have to wait "Several more weeks" while they test it - 'unlocked' in this context is anyone who bought it direct from HTC
How will this work for people who have debranded their phones as I have?
I remember doing an OTA update and losing Wi-Fi which was apaprently fixed by putting the goldcard in when doing the OTA update. Will this work the same way as that?
Great news. still i feel a little skeptical, offical or not. Once bitten twice shy. lol
Roll on the weekend.
Not sure about that. Got mine from Mobilephonesdirect, is not locked to network and earlier updates (firmware) were in advance of the operators rolling it out.
At last I can get rid of my 'low on space warning'. I unlocked mine a while ago hope I get the update and what about this itunes sync (shown on engadget) I can't believe that apple would have agreed to that???

Apple is agree to allow that ?
even if the UK dont get it, someone should be able to upload it online for UK people and then dev's can root it
As its a european ROM it will have english in it so should be fine.
Isn't the UK part of europe?? So we should all get it, right?
Where is the Divx support? Theres 720p but nothing about Divx

The network lock won't effect the update, it's whether the phone has been branded by the network, these branded versions only update to the same branding, this is what eneds to be updated by the network.

it was on their twitter page
if i remember they said they expect it to be in november but could not provide an exact date (so i would be dubious)
They've been saying September on twitter, but aren't being any more specific as to when exactly.

Even today they ahve posted on twitter that it will be some time this month, and when they find out when they will tell us.
I think they are taking the piss making us wait this long.

I'm pretty sure O2 has released the 2.2 update for the Desire.
T Mobile have managed to screw up the android os so many times that I think they are staffed by chimps.
There are so many good roms out you should unlock your phone and use the quality releases that can be found on this board.
Orange are worse .. I think we should have a Phone provider top 10 ... of muppets...
Orange keep saying coming soon... see my thread ... I have Hboot 0.75 so may root etc soon ...but then why should I ??

To be fair to TMo, they did very, very little to brand the Desire ROM - essentially a boot screen and a few changed icons.
It makes it all the more surprising that they are so slow to roll out the Froyo update when so little has been changed.
Regards,
Dave
When will it come??
Late April to May was the last I heard, but will it have HTC Sense 2.1?
Read the other numerous threads instead of starting a pointless one
not sure but its good news that is coming soon
I read that it does but not sure how reliable they were

I have read http://bit.ly/gSN39i. If the update is allready in the hands of the 3 network for testing, wouldn't it normally be the case that it would now be released to un-branded handsets?
I read somewhere like end of April/May... and in Android community forum a tweet of guy who is working on Gingerbread ROM for HTC desire..not sure how legti this might be...

the os may have support for it - whether the hardware is there or not...
No need to suspect. Just check out the FCC website. It does not.

Looks like Samsung beat HTC this time, Galaxy S in EU recieved Gingerbread update today.
http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/16/galaxy-s-gingerbread-update-now-rolling-out-across-europe/
For me this is another important point for decision between SGS2 and HTC Sensation.
bit disappointed that samsung beat htc to pushing out gingerbread, hoping to see the update come soon though, especially with the sign of the leaked gingerbread update
Typed on Motorola Xoom
gingerbread leaked for Desire
I cooked ROM and flashed a2sd works. Updated Radio its based on the old Sense with some tweak. Had old marker but was able to update Vending apk. Unfortunately, because don't post often unless I can contribute I'm considered a new member and am not allowed to post in the development area or upload files. I based by ROM on leedroid's previous roms as in my opinion he is one of the top 2 developers working on HTC Desire ROMs.
Anyhow, his version is set to be out tonight. Search the forum threads. Again not new sense but its gingerbread and its a begining.
Acc to Eurodroid "HTC Desire Android 2.3 update coming in the middle of May" at least for the Three/UK customers. anyway, it will -soon or later- come to all our Desires.
Personally, I will be keep waiting until my contract expiry date comes (~Apr 2012) with better feelings against HTC if I get this eagerly awaited update. Cheers!

Samsung have just released GB upgrade for SGS in Europe which means they hv taken over HTC in terms of updates. Hope HTC reacts that quickly and will not leave us, Desire owners, alone.

I keep hoping that with the leaked rom that came out that the proper update/RUU will be out soon...
keep toying between rooting and trying the new rom on my phone - and waiting... at the moment (as I have my xoom to play with too) that I'm leaning on waiting
Im in london england with an unbranded desire z never rooted...still no 2.3.3 gingerbread update even though its been released on vodafone here and other central european countries...im not really obsessed with htc sense so im not bothered about losing that if i was to root my phone because CM7 looks pretty great...
So my question is (1) what the thoughts on the official gingerbread update whatever country you in?
2) Is it worth waiting for or should i just think about rooting my phone?
Some say the unbranded desire z update might reach UK handsets end of summer.
Dont want to wait that long for a terrible update since there is no root for it at the moment.
(never rooted a phone but willing to take the risk if means better performance)
Thanks.
Virtuous 2.0 is stock gingerbread with many performance enhancements. It's a great rom. It's very smooth and stable.
I think there is temp root exploit for the official GB release. But rooting froyo is a lot simpler and the method is tried and tested. My recommendation is to do it. You won't be disappointed.
If you want to root this is the best guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision

I read around that rom advised by cj but i thought i would wait till the 31st since HTC says an offical update is coming end of june. If that doesn't come through i'll have to brave it out and root.
End of the month and no unbranded update from HTC, though Vodafone have theirs and 3 have been sending out unbranded updates to their customers... Sigh @ HTC.

No JB ROM has Sense right now.
HTC has not released JB for any device as of yet. JB will come only with One X+. Even then it will probably take 2-3 months for Sense with JB to work for DHD. Atleast not unless One V or One S get their JB updates(if any).
I think our phone get old .. we should buy one x
Maybe the time has come to buy a new phone. Thanks for replys.
Don't buy another HTC phone, they promised ics for us and then they told us Desire HD couldn't run it. A lie!!!

well actually they did not said anything like that...
they cancelled ICS for DHD because there would be no way to upgrade without formatting system partitions which would lead to loss of users data and so on...

Yes, and an average user will not be happy with this. ROM flashers dont care, but normal users do
Sent from my Desire HD using xda premium
True, but they could have released the update, clearly stating in the update info screen that it will lead to loss of data. So then, only the users who want it would run it, while the others would simply cancel it. This is a no-brainer. Other companies have done this, so I don't see why HTC can't. Re-partitioning and loss of data is no excuse for a company to renege on their promised upgrade. At best, they could have released an RUU on HTCdev for our phone just like they did for the HTC Desire GB upgrade. That way only really knowledgeable users would run it.
The truth is, they never started work on ICS for the DHD at all. *Every* other HTC phone had an ICS leak a month or two before they officially got it. The DHD had none. They never started work on the DHD, because they didn't want to spend their time and money on the oldest phone in the list, expecting people to buy their new One series instead. That's a crap move. It wouldn't be that bad if they didn't promise the upgrade in the first place and then go back on their word, but they did. Motorola did the same thing with the Photon 4G and 2 other phones. At least we got Froyo > Gingerbread. Those phones were stuck on GB their entire life, and Motorola had the gall to offer a $100 discount (not cash-back) for customers of these phones, if they purchased newer Motorola phones.
On the other hand, you have Sony Mobile which us releasing alpha stage ROMs of upcoming upgrades to the community, along with kernel source code for the alpha ROM, taking suggestions from the community and actively working together to develop that ROM. That is how a company should be. Motorola is crap and HTC has gone far down that route. They just don't care. Sony as a company can't work to upgrade all their phones all the time too, because ultimately it costs time and money, but to counter that they are actively helping the community by providing drivers and binaries for custom ROMs. This is the reason more or less all Sony Xperia phones (low-end to high-end) have official CM support. HTC and Motorola make great phones but their business practices and ideologies are just wrong.
