[Q] Music Identification software - FC errors - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I’m not sure how many people use music identification software like Shazam Encore or Soundhound (I use them a lot!), but I seem to get lots of force close errors if I try and look up a bunch of songs in a row running any CyanogenMod based ROMS on my T-Mobile G2. Once I get that first FC, it does not matter what music identification app I got the FC error in, neither one will work until I reboot my phone. Oddly enough, when I run xboarder56’s Pure/Stock Gingerbread 2.3.3 (v1.2.1), I get no FC errors, no matter how many songs I identify. Might it be something in the stock HTC kernel that keeps the phone so stable during music look-ups? I love the custom roms out there (especially PyroMod’s ver 2 ), but it would be nice to hear from people who may have found other roms for the G2 that don’t FC while identifying music.

wallpaper may have somethin to do with it...u can change motion enable (or somthin like that) in settings ..and fix permissions on rom manager helps too.

[SOLVED][Q] music app "lags" on AOSP/MIUI ROMs

solution: increasing buffer size removes the lag, i even increased the buffer's priority just in case...
my music app is kinda lagging... it just hangs and repeats itself for 2-3 seconds then continues fine...
tried:
music app
google music
player pro
musixmatch
all of them do that
ILWT/andromadus/MIUI GB... And some other AOSP ROMs have that...
The thing that's weird is that the music runs fine on sense ROMs, and sense ROM just does fine with music... But i need AOSP, and i can't live without music...
So, any solutions?

Another ROM maybe? But 3 seconds is almost nothing (for me)
Sent from my chair.
its really noticeable.... i was at my "nokia" loving friend, and we wanted to hear a song, and when it lagged, he laughed so hard and said that my phone sucks...
maybe it is the rom... new roms are coming soon.... hope it will be fixed

I noticed the phone hanging up sometimes when I access it after unlocking the phone(need to pull out battery). Noticed this on many miui roms as well as on a few builds of cyanogen.

I also have this issue with ILWT. Music player is laggy and it glitches. It mostly happens when i switch songs, but sometimes it happens during playback. I never had any issues with stock rom.
A fix would be nice

I Don't think it's fix"able" cuz it happens on many other AOSP roms...

I dont think that everyone is having this issue. If only a few people have it that means there must be a specific cause. So why are our phones so special?

Can you specify this specific cause?
Let's talk about ILWT...
What i did:
Wiped, flashed, resotred my apps, music: laging
Superwiped, flashed, didn't restore any app, music: still laging
Superwiped, flashed, wiped sdcard, put only one song in it, music: STILL LAGING!
The only possible difference is that you may have a G2, while i have a DZ... But that's so not the cause...

i doubt having a g2 or dz would matter. i have a g2 hboot and im running elitemod with little tweeks clocked aroun 1.1ghz, i use google play music to stream and have around a gb of music on a class 6 sdcard. i rearly if ever get a lag in music from sdcard or streaming. i also stream public radio and music from live 365 without any lag. i keep my phone light, apps i rarely use are on ext partition or not on my phone at all, i dont use a task killer but use watchdog to monitor any app that is consuming to much cpu and ususally i take those off my phone or restricted them

I have a DZ. But i dont think its hardware related, because I had no issues with stock rom, so this must be a software bug. And I too have no problems when streaming music from internet, its when listening to music from sd card that is laggy. I really have no idea whats causing it, I guess it might be some app like dsp manager..
Anyway, Im new to this whole rom thing and maybe my wrong ideas will give someone the right idea
Sent from my DZ
MIUI doesn't have dsp manager.... Or any equalizer, and it also lags... Streaming is fine, sense roms are fine... But playing music on the phone's speaker/earplugs and on AOSP lags...
Any help?

I've never had any lag with the music player except for Sense 3.* ROMs where the scrolling was slow and unresponsive. In CM7, the music player is super fast and responsive, the same applies to virtuous g-lite and g2 slim. Music playback was also fast and smooth in MIUI when i used it a while ago. I haven't tried ILWT recently, but i doubt it has something to do with the ROM.
If i were you, i'd do a backup of my sd card, format it, and then put everything back on and see if the lag was still there. If the lag was still there, then i'd try a different sd card. Both the stock and very plain looking music app and google music were always fast on AOSP ROMs for me, so there is something that you haven't considered/done yet on your end.

But, how can you explain the non-laggy sense music... All of the sense roms don't lag on playback, and sense roms in general, lag alot... Except for music though

I don't quite know how to explain it either but you can at least try and fix it rather than speculating about the whole smooth Sense vs laggy AOSP music playback. Also have you tried the latest CM7.2 RC? Music playback was fast on that. Make a backup and just try things out and see what works. We're not devs and we probably won't find a dev who can explain this for us, so you may as well just try.

I suppose you didn't see my threads about roms:

It's might be software issue...
@Riro, what'd you do to solve the lag issue? Also i've seen your thread but i didn't see any parts of it that were relevant to your issues that you've been having with music playback.
So you solved the issue for all AOSP/CM ROMs then? Please share the good info with all the friendly people here on xda .

WhiteRabbit 1.5.2 Bug report thread

Since I'm a fairly new user here I cant post to the development section I'll post my bug reports here.
ROM: WhiteRabbit 1.5.2
clean installation with beatsaudio, motorola defy red lens GB kernel.
(*)FC on miui music player when choosing a file to play.
(*)false pairing on A2DP headset, says its paired yet i cant control or hear anything from the phone, music is still played through speaker.
(*)Default messaging app hides the "Enter" button on keyboard (other apps keyboards are fine).
(!) Reinstalling (not clean) without the beatsaudio (default CM7) solves the FC and A2DP pairing issues.
Hopefully this thread will be just moved into the development thread.
I had many issues with the 2.3.6 version!!
when the battery got below 26% and I tried to open any rooted app they would not open as they would get errors.
I had a few other errors and things I didnt like but I cant remember them ATM wether they where program conflicts (or lack of programs or services I choose not to install) I am not sure.
I thought it was really good, but the lack of some things put me off it and I liked the go launcher but I can put that on any ROM!.
I now run CM7.2 latest by quartx with V6 supercharged and cant be happier. Fast enough and battery usage is minimal with using the power control panel and everything turned off apart from 3G. Got rid of JuiceDefender now and just use the control panel I can turn things off and on when I like on the main screen so no hassles

[Q] Video player on CM7

Hi guys,
I have a problem with CM7 on my Kindle Fire. I have done the searching but since I found no one has raised the same issue, hence I post it.
My Kindle Fire was successfully rooted with the CM7. The version is 7-2-0-blaze-KANG
I'm now encountering with the video player.
At the beginning after I rooted and run my very beginning steps on using this device under CM7 ROM cook, it's very fine. It can run very smoothly with MX Video Player.
But after I installed several simple applications (It's "several" 'cause the number of applications only reach the page 3) such as Advanced Task Killer, Facebook, Gmail, Alkido,... (I haven't installed any games), the video is not as smooth as usual.
I don't know what to do right now, 'cause the applications that I installed are simple and necessary for any Android user, I reckon. They appear in every Android device. I couldn't uninstall them.
I wonder that might be a problem with CM7 version that I'm using, 'cause perhaps it's not a fully developed. Do you have any suggestions for me?
1. Install a new ROM (CM9 or another version)
2. Or Go back to the Stock ROM
3. Or This problem cannot be sorted out. I have to suffer (
Any of your help would be highly appreciated
1. Get Advanced Task Killer off of there, you don't need it.
2. Check the decoding settings on mx player, you should probably have it set to software decoding, if not try that.
3. It's probably not something with your rom, but if you want, try hellfire's cm7 rom. It's what I use. I have no trouble with video.
I like mx player, but you can also try bsplayer which I really like, probably even more. Just make sure to go into the settings and use software decoding. Otherwise it can have trouble depending on the filetype/codec you are trying to play. This could be your problem.
Also: Try using FBreader instead of Aldiko, I think it's much better and it has a syncing app you can dl. It's awesome.
Thank you so much for your response since I don't see it much here
1. I install Advanced Task Killer since sometimes it might be easy for me to log out an application rather than keep pressing "back" button. However, I uninstalled it but the video is still unsmooth.
2. I've checked it, and everything is fine. I think it can not be this problem, as at the beginning everything is smooth (I told in the first post). But after I installed several apps, it wasn't working well
3. I think it is the ROM. I now realize that it's unable to play HD youtube on this ROM as well (Vevo is always infeasible). Imma try Gede ICS Rom 1.35 since I received a lot of great compliments for this, having said that there are still minor bugs here.
Thanks for your suggestion on new applications

[Q] [MiUi] First thoughts and some questions about miui

So after having gotten my first GS2 back in mid-april and having only rooted it three days later... I decided on BlueKuban ICS since it was very easy to set up and use (as a completely new android noob)
Anywho, I'm feeling frisky! (And want to be able to easily theme my ROMs / Install other peoples themes) And have since started using miui 2.6.15 ICS.
Some things I noticed off the bat:
-SD Card / Internal HD issues:
I of course made to sure to follow the installation instructions to the (T). Flashed External.zip after flashing the rom..... But there's now internal storage showing less then 3gigs total space...... then the internal storage with ~11gigs (which is the normal SG2's HD space) then even though its still labled as "internal storage" there's my 32gig SD card.
This is not helping my OCD ._. Is this a known issue with miui due to the way it is installed?
-Lockscreen widgit:
I love it! Except I uninstalled alot of stuff I don't want to use like the default Messaging app and the muui music app. Now on the lockscreen going to the message or music icon fails to launch a program (Well I understand why......)
My question: Is there a way to tinker with it to launch the programs I want it to? (Gvoice for messaging and DoubleTwist for music.)
-Themes
I've looked @ the in-phone browser for them.... but was wondering, is there a proper US/English forum/thread/sticky where I could find some themes? ^_^ Google helped me peruse some deviant art posts, but not a designiated list as I was looking for.
Well sorry to rabble on, was going to blurb just my two main questions on the actual MiUI Dev Thread however am still under the 10 post limit (And their Epic 4G Touch thread is very.... well empty )
Hiya!
In terms of SD issues ... they have always been a problem because we don't have kernel source. The devs working on MIUI have found work arounds that at least get apps on the phone to start recognizing files on the SD (pictures, videos, music, etc) but bugs are gonna be there until kernel source is available to iron them out.
In terms of the MIUI lockscreen, these things are coded into the theme. Last time I checked, if you look through the MIUI theme files, there should be a .xml that *might* allow you to change what the lockscreen "buttons" lead to. However AFAIK you cannot change it any other way. (I may be wrong)
Themes can be found around the English MIUI forums. I never tried them though but they're there. Make sure the theme you're looking at is for ICS versions of MIUI otherwise it may/may not work.
That's all I've got for now, I hope this helped. MIUI is truly a great ROM, just a bit hard to get down straight >_>

Music distorting on ICS?

I experience music distorting when I hold down my home button key (to get to recent apps) or sometimes taping different places on the phone . It doesn't happen with the stock music player(only happens with apps like Player Pro, Power Amp, N7 player, Music Mod, Datpiff) and I know it's not my phone or a bad download.. Because all other audio on my phone is fine (YouTube, phone calls, stock player, alarm sounds etc).. Kinda bothering me especially since I shelled out money for some of these music player programs which are now useless (got them while I was on Gingerbread and never had that "distorting problem)
*Set up is in my signature of what I'm currently running*
When your running your music app try and see if you get any CPU spikes. Sounds like your ram could be running low . Since the real source code for Ics is coming soon that could fix it. have you tried rebooting your phone? I know your running blu Kubans ROM. Go to the updater and try another kernel. These are just thoughts so my two cents may not help any.
Also did you notice these issues before any of RUs updates? if not try to revert back to one of the other updates or even ask him on his thread

What app would you recommend to monitor cpu spikes. And if my ram is running low how could I fix that?
I've tried different kernels (agats numerous ones). And no avail.. Also tried rebooting.. But it had happened on all the updates, tried asking on the thread but I'm the only individual with the issue
I just use a stock player im not picky. I went back to GB roms so I use the ROM manager to see how much ram is being used. For the CPU I'm sure the market has some apps for CPU usage. Have you tried clearing the cache for the music apps you own? are they up to date? They may not be compatible with ics roms yet.
