Hi there XDA
This morning I created a new Google Account as I did a 'Factory Data Reset' and I didn't want application to be restored. After setting up and signing in to my Google Account on my device I went into Latitude. I noticed that my Location Reporting was set to hidden. No matter what I do its not possible to get my Latitude to share my position. I click 'Automatically Update My Position' it says saving then goes back to Latitude and shows that my Location is STILL hidden and won't update. I have a few friends in Latitude so I know that's not the problem, I just don't know where to go from here and I hope you at XDA can help, many thanks.

Everytime I hit search in Google Maps, a long list of previous searches appears.
Anyone know how to prevent this?
I've checked settings and couldn't find anything.
Not only to prevent it but couldn't delete any search entry's.

Does deleting maps app data from settings>apps do it?

I'd like to know this as well. I don't even know where its pulling it from, I'm seeing things I don't think I've ever searched for (but maybe I have).
I've tried clearing cache and clearing search history...no go...
edit: Okay, so I cleared web search history by going to maps.google.com on a desktop and clearing that history and turning off Web Search History permanently.
However, it still pops up a number of searches, which turns out are Personalized recommendations (creepy). And unfortunately, it doesn't appear there is any way to turn that off on the phone (you can turn it off on the browser by adding &pws=0 to the query string parameters).
I've had a few customers come in before on other droids asking how to do this. Going into manage apps and clearing data for maps or navigation usually did it

That's still an inconvenient way. There should be an option to disable that

I am wondering how to overcome this too.
I have location issue using foursquare, my location is blocked at some point and even if I go the 10km distance in Foursquare appear my old position. I dont know if is a issue with the app or the phone.
Note: I tried "Force Stop" and "Clear Data" for the Foursquare and the problem is not solved after I login and get back into the application.
If I open Maps location is indicated correctly
same here

I have tried now and also The weather channel app cant find my location
* to specify: GPS is not activate
Any other people have this issue
Forgive me for being a noob but what's foursquare?
I know it's not a circle but please tell so I can verify as well.
Edit; I already figured it out myself.
It's an app available in the Playstore of Google.
Btw @Op, I think this thread is opened in the wrong section,
this is general section and you are discussing a app, so why you didn't open in app section?
That's why it confused me, I taught it was kind of GPS hardware or something.
Thanks!
I had this issue a couple of weeks ago both with the weather app and Foursquare, also the maps location was correct for me.
The problem disappeared after rebooting the phone. Have you tried that?

Yes, is working after a reboot for a while but after some days the problem appear again. I think is a problem from the phone, not the several weather apps and foursquare.
I also have had this problem.
Anyone has resolution?
Hi. I'm on stock Voda in the UK and have been having absolutely terrible battery life, so I bought BetterBattery and am getting HUGE partial wakelock use from LocationManagerService, which seems to be the culprit. Do I have to disable everything to do with my location to stop this?
Many thanks, in advance.

Sorry to bump this, but I would love some help - my phone drains like you wouldn't believe. Thanks!
You Use Facebook?
Or any app that needs location info frequently? Try disabling location updates in apps. Worst case, turn off location services when you don't need them.

Thanks for the replies. I do use Facebook, yes, but I only have my refresh interval set at 2 hours.
If I disable location updates in apps, how will that affect things?
Certain apps will notify you that location services are off and they need to be on. So you determine when to turn on. Google search will probably fail to show nearby stuff but nothing serious.

Aaaargh! I've gone into Settings >> Locations and turned everything off, but my Partial Wakelock use for LocationManagerService is still through the roof. I can't see a 'Location Updates' setting in Apps - am I looking in the wrong place?
Thanks for your help!

im on uk voda too and had the same issue.
go to settings > location > untick "googles location service"
this will stop tracking in the background and prevent latitude from working and stop google maps knowing your location which can make it take up to 1 minute to find you when you open maps instead of 5 seconds etc.
reboot the phone and check if you still get the partial wake locks from it (i also got hundreads per hour).
make sure google plus app is not syncing too much, or that you dont have location tracking for glympse or wifi automation / tasker etc enabled.
i also disabled the following apps which may help (test 1 at a time):
Car
Facebook (try friendcaster instead) - apparently facebook does NOT respect the location service settings, it will still update etc, so force close and disable it, then check with batterystats to see if the wakelocks are gone - they probs will be.
Friend stream app & widgets
Joyn
Locations widget (none of the other locations app items can be disable without root)
Navigate widget
news and weather
picasa web albums
Trip widget
Twitter for htc sense
Weather (HTC) & LWP & widgets
hope this helps.
Thank you for the advice, which I have followed. Unfortunately, I still have the problem. I would be most grateful if anyone had any further suggestions!
*Tears out hair*
Do you have Google Latitude activated by any chance? This usually is the cause for these wake locks. Disable latitude and you will see it gets better. With the last updates of Google maps it has become worse. It seems with maps on the device Google is collection traffic data. If you deinstall maps the problem will be gone for sure, but check latitude first.

That's odd - I can't find Latitude, either in my Apps or on my phone. Would it be part of another App? (I looked under 'maps', but couldn't find it there...)
Checked everywhere - no Google Latitude loaded. Hmmm...
Run Maps, goto settings, location settings.

Thank you. Nothing is checked there at all - do I select 'do not update your location' as well?

Yes. By default it updates.
Hi.
Since 4.2, google navigation is unable to locate me on the map. As a result it just doesn't work and stay on "locating your position" or something like that.
If I use other gps based app (such ingress, car home ultra, etc....) those app have no problem to find me accurately.
I've tried clearing cache and data in the app section of control pannel. Also in the recovery mode but no success.
I use the latest map app version
I use stock rom for yakju 4.2 on a galaxy nexus
------------------EDIT WITH THE SOLUTION-------------------
Thanx to @Enforceman here's the solution:
-on main page press the search bar at the top (box written Google following of a mike symbol). This will open Google Now
-then Google now will tell you that location service is currently Off.
-You will have a link to a setting menu to turn it on
-Go in that menu and turn it on.
THERE IS IT. YOU SHOULD NOW HAVE A WORKING GPS with google apps.
What Google should have done at first is that after the OTA at reboot they should have put a windows asking if we would like to turn on that feature. After a clean wipe it will work because they explain google now. But not after the ota......anyway it is done, it work, that's all that matter for me

Anyone having this issue?
I've aslo noticed that the camera app can't get geo-location infos.....but Camera FX does.
So it is really something about the google apps! Any non-google apps work perfectly with GPS and the GPS test app work fine.

I had this issue too. Other GPS apps would locate me but Google maps would not after 4.2 OTA even though location services were turned on in settings. Apparently, that setting is for non-google apps and there is another setting switch somewhere for google apps.
I found a fix after I noticed that my Google Now cards were not working. I clicked on the top search bar which brings up search and google Now. At the bottom there was a message that said my location access was turned off. I clicked on that and then clicked on the settings link that it had.
It brought me to a new white setting screen with a switch for location access which i switched to ON. It seems that this specific switch has to be on for google apps to access the GPS.
Works now. Hope that helps

Ok I know to clear data from an app such as Google maps it should be Settings > Apps > Maps > Clear data but this just doesn't clear my Google maps search history.
It's very annoying I have 6 searched places in my search that I just can't get rid of. I have even re-flashed fresh my ROM being Android Revolution HD and the search history from previous is still there.
Has anyone come across this or know of a solution?
Log in to google maps on your computer with the same account on your phone.
Click on my places and it should come up with a list of where you searched. Click on the little arrow next to the place and then hit delete.
Once your done go into settings and sync your google account on your phone and it will get rid of the places.
Hope it helps
Shahzad
Hi thanks but I logged into my Google maps from the same account from a desktop and none of the places in my Google maps search history were showing. All the same I deleted my history from Google maps from my desktop and synchronized but the history is still showing on my HTC One X.
I now have disabled Google search from my desktop and synchronized again and still the same history is showing on my HTC One X.
Its as if the search history is permanent on my HTC One X.
Would there be any specific file on my HTC One X that I could possibly delete with say root explorer where it could be remembering maps search history from???

It worked for me. I dont use google desktop.
The only other thing i can suggest is that you download history eraser and try to clear it that way.

I just tried with history eraser even that didn't work hmmm.
Something I notice is when logged into Google maps on a desktop in the search bar I can see these searches when clicking on the grey arrow on the right but going into delete history and clearing all doesn't get rid of them maybe this is a Google bug? I have also cleaned my desktop browser's with Ccleaner but these searches are still there in Google maps.
Edit: Just further to say I have tried Chrome in Incognito mode and the searches still appear so this can't be a browser cache or cookies issue. Really not sure how to resolve this....

Sorry im out of ideas. Maybe contact google if they can help.
It was Google - after clearing history from desktop it appears to take time before everything is erased even after syncing from phone.
Now those pesky searches that I couldn't get rid of have magically disappeared
Nice one
