Plex workaround - Galaxy S II Themes and Apps

For those of you who've been waiting for a decent streaming app, it's been kind of annoying that there's an app there which is pretty much what you need, but it's off limits as it doesn't work with our beloved phone.
After seeing some posting a workaround for those with the mac client, here's a method I managed to get working with KE7 without any need for it. This is from my post on the Plex forums:
Go into advanced settings and make sure everything is enabled (green check in all boxes)
Open video
Wait for audio to start
Press and hold home (middle button) until you get the recent opened app.
Press Task Manager
Press back button (right of the home button)
Press resume or play from start - either one works
Watch your video.

[REF] Sky's Remote Record Service on Touch HD

I've always been frustrated that sky have never released remote record for windows mobile, and recently even more frustrated when i noticed they've released an official iphone version!
It's ok to use the java version if you have a keyboard on your phone but i've never managed to log-in using just a touchscreen, until not. Here's how:
Before doing the following make sure you have activated remote record from your sky account.
Firstly download and install AE-Button Plus. Set it up in the following way:
Volume Up:
1: Press Up arrow key
2: Press Left arrow key
3: Press Enter
Long: Press Left SoftKey
Volume Down:
1: Press Down arrow key
2: Press Right arrow key
3: Press Enter
Long: Press Right SoftKey
Next download and instal the attached file (SkyMobile_SonyWithoutTv.jar), it's the java version of sky remote record.
Once it's installed run it and you'll be presented with a login screen. The username field should be highlighted in yellow. Press the volume up key 3 times. Your keyboard should pop up. Enter your username and press ok.
now pres the volume down key once to highlight password then press again 3 times. Now enter your password and press ok. Press the volume up key for a few seconds to login. It should take a few seconds and you'll be logged in to sky's remote record service.
To navigate around it just use the key mappings from above.
Got everything as you detailed......But trying to log in gives "Make sure tyou are connected" I thought logging in would instruct a connection! Connected to the internet and tried again! Same error message. Any suggestions? Ta

Trice,
I had solved this a couple of weeks ago on www.coolsmartphone.com , where it had been discussed for the Kaiser, but could not get it to work simply by mapping the buttons as you mention (Left & Right Soft keys would not work even when mapped in aebutton plus). Had meant to post the solution here, but forgot!!
The built in java did not work for me, so i had to install the java software they provided...and there was a registry key change needed as well.
See http://www.coolsmartphone.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=13782&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=15 for my solution, I've posted it below as well.
Firstly, follow the instructions in the original article posted by gears ie. register on the web for sky mobile and download and install the java software and SkyMobile_SonyWithoutTv.jar file.
Also register for "Remote Record" via your Sky+ box (instructions on the Sky.com website)
Next, as the HD does not have a hardware keyboard, we need to "spoof" the OS into thinking the HD does have one. This is done in one key in the
registry (which I found completely by accident while looking for a different one!).
Goto... "HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Shell" and change the value of "HasKeyboard" to 1
Soft Reset the phone.
We will then need to map some of the buttons to give us up/down/left/right, Enter and Left/Right Soft keys. As NickMilner suggests above, i use "AE Button Plus" and my mapping instructions assume that's what you will use. (the program does cost but i don't know of any other one that provides double, triple and long press options for each key and appears to work well enough in free/trial mode anyway!)
Map the following in AE Button Plus
Volume Up button: Single press - Volume Up
Double press - Press Up Arrow
Triple press - Press Left Arrow
Long press - Press Left Soft Key
Volume Down Button: Single press - Volume Down
Double press - Press Down Arrow
Triple press - Press Right Arrow
Long press - Press Right Soft Key
Green Phone Button: Single Press - Press Green Button
Double Press - Press Enter
I would have liked to use the Red Phone button, but whatever selection i made, the red button always acted as an "Exit" button in the java app, so I went with the above. It's a bit complicated I know with all those double and triple presses, but IT WORKS and i've soon got used to it. I'm sure you could chose your own combination of presses, but the above ones work.
Well, there you go, see if it works for you (I Bl**dy hope so...this has taken me ages to write!!)

Slightly different key mappings than yours (mine keeps vol up/down on the same keys), but the effect is the same!
I would suggest people try whichever works for them.

Sorry, I hadn't refreshed after I posted so hadn't seen your method. I'll try this evening.

I was getting a connection error when i was trying to login while connected to activesync. I disconnected and tried again through 3g and it worked fine. Are you trying to connect through 3g?
I've downloaded the file, SkyMobile_SonyWithoutTv.jar.zip - and an app to open it, but I can't actually get it to run? I know it's bound to be something really simple, but can someone tell me what I'm likely to be doing wrong? Thanks.

You have to extract SkyMobile_SonyWithoutTv.jar from the zip file. Once you've done that move SkyMobile_SonyWithoutTv.jar to your HD and install it using the java client that should already be installed on the HD.
That helped me get a bit further thanks, only now, when I actually try to install it, I get the message, " The archive file (.jar) for /_SkyMobile_SonyWithoutTv.jar appears to be corrupt. -36".
Any ideas?
Can you not write a Dpad program to run the Jar program inside it???

Yes I was standalone connecting to 3G.
Hi All,
I'm new to this forum, but I've been interested in the above problem for a while. I'm using the Xperia X1 Phone and have recently installed a windows mobile 6.5 rom - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=508057
Previously I was using 6.1 and unable to connect to the application, receiving the message:
'The data connection has failed. Please check the network coverage'
From reading the previous comments and other threads I wasn't the only one. However, after installing the above rom, everything seems to be working perfectly (including remote record). I didn't even have to do any button mapping.
I think the internet config settings applied by my network provider (vodafone) was stopping the application from connecting. Installing the new rom applied default settings and eliminated what was causing the connection problems. I also tried via my WIFI connection, but it wouldn’t connect using this methos.
Hope some of this helps,
MJ
Followed the instructions as per OP, but seem to be struggling with AE Button Plus. I thought I'd mapped the buttons correctly, but they still don't work! Does anyone have any suggestions? (using v 2.6.6)
An update that might help some. I couldn't get AE Button to work with the CAB mentioned in this thread - so no Sky on my mobile! - but a different approach saw me try to access Sky Player using Skyfire ................ and it worked! A little bit fiddly, but useable.

(opinion) back, home, search key assignment

don't know you guys, but imho,
back should just be back.
multitasking should use long press home (instead of long press back)
and voice search should use long press search (instead of long press home)
reason for this is (in my case) search is kinda under-utilized and back gets used all the time. i'd rather leave back key to back function alone.
what's your thought on this?
edit: oh, i'd also rather have back key to go back within the same app and not to desktop or some other app.
I agree with the long press on the search button for tellme search. But back button is a better choice for multitasking menu because your finger is going to drift there to switch back an app.
Btw don't call it the home button... Its the start button =)

my rationale is to separate in-app navigation (use back) and between-app navigation (use home).
right now there's no indication of where you are in the "back queue". e.g. you don't know that you are already backed to root navigation inside an app and another back would bring you outside the app. coupled with lag in certain apps, it can be very frustrating.
I think I like things the way they are. I use the search button (hardware) a ton.

Best way to 'close' apps + folder problem

Hi, first thing, this is my first Android phone and I understand I should press the back button to close out of apps rather than press the home button. So this means if I have been surfing for a while, I have to press back, say 20 times, going backward through all the pages I've visited, until I reach the first page opened and the browser will close.
I know I can press home to close, then press the right menu button to bring up the recent apps and swipe the browser away, but isn't there a better way to close out of programs? I thought maybe holding the 'back' button would force close it but it just brings up the browsing history.
2nd: I'm finding that some programs do not go into certain 'folders' while it goes into other folders, what is causing this?
Thanks.
On cm10 or any custom rom actually has the option in developers options to "long press back to kill app" if you don't have that option the only way is it press the home button hit the recent apps button not the menu button and swipe it away. How is that hard? Its much harder to do the same task on iOS.
Also I'm not too sure what you mean by the folder deal can you take a screenshot and upload it here. ( hold power + volume down.)

The browser is a unique case where you don't have to back out. The best way is just close the current tab, or all tabs you have open, to close the browser. You don't go 20 pages back for browser closing. But for all apps yes back button is the best way to close apps when you're done.
Lol wow... I do that all the time and completely forgot thanks.

Remap the Camera button

Hi,
I have a rooted 4.6.1 fire phone with Xposed, and I was wondering if it is possible to remap the phone's camera button to another camera application
I have already briefly tried remapping with the additions module, but it didn't recognise the key.
Cheers,
--Fid
I tried some apps (unfortunately they were a bit "old": 2011/'12) which can map buttons to apps, none worked really, except one was promising but I couldn't finish testing because the xxxxxx320 version had some Amazon voodoo going on, I'm not even going into details.
I will go back on 820 and edit this post when I'm done testing. Btw. I guess you saw the threads here on XDA about hardware key mapping, press buttons to run a script (to launch an app), etc.?
edit: "Home2 Shortcut" was unsuccessful. The app is from 2011 and made for Android 2.x. I could select and configure everything I wanted but nothing happened.
Same problem, as seen from CM11
Home2 worked for me, using CM11. Requires a long press, and can't seen to use it as if hoped (as a back button, to let me kill the on-screen buttons) but it's something.
Tried some other older apps, as you mentioned: KeynumberTracker showed key # 358, but the associated ButtonRemapper app doesn't give that as an editable option.

How do I get out of KidzDragon? Uninstall? Make it go away?!

First post, and hoping someone can help me. I'm new to Fire HD/Kodi, having only had the rooted stick for a week or so. My kids have loaded up a KidzDragon front page that I'm unable to get out of. I'm limited to kids TV, Movies, and music.
My oldest said they downloaded something.
I can't find the file/folder/uninstall/add-on anywhere.
Can anyone assist?
Have you tried unplugging and replugging it?
First try hooking up a keyboard and hold Alt then press Tab to bring up recent apps and press Tab again while still holding Alt to select what you want.
Release Alt when on settings, the launcher,or another app if listed.
Settings will list your apps including KidzDragon. (the rocket image if you are in a hurry)
Select the app from settings and the list has an uninstall option.
Simply uninstall it and all should be good.
Edit: Whoops didn't notice about Kodi, and I have no idea about what Kodi even looks like or if it has access to an app list.
Is the home button failing to work on getting you out of the KidzDragon app?
