Well, i think it is possible, but it would probably be an app which would include a camera inside

Camera compression can be easily managed from media_profiles.xml under /etc

[Q] How to disable the camera

Hello, All !
I've just bought the Defy,
I work at secured site and have to disable my phone camera.
Is there any option to do this using some software with no dealing with the hardware, means not to take the camera off the phone.
Sorry, but i don't know any program that does it.
Just a contextual question: what would be the difference if you have some app to disable the camera? if you want to take any picture, wouldn't you be able to re-activate the camera?
and btw, if you don't start the camera app, i guess it is not recording anything.
Just remove the camera app from your phone with rootexplorer, make a backup of the app first (BlurCamera.apk and BlurCamera.odex if you have a non deodexed rom) so you can put them back in the future.

According to the organization policy the camera should be disabled while I'm in, but the point is being able to re-activate the camera
during the weekends or vacations.

Sorry for the beginners questions :
1. How could I get rootexplorer ? should I reinstall rom for this ?
2. What is the path for the apps (BlurCamera.apk and BlurCamera.odex)?
Thank you

First you have 2 root your phone with superoneclick (instructions somewere on this forum).
Then you download rootexplorer (search with google) to get R/W permissions on the system folder.
The Camera app is in system/app.....
can't you just cover the camera with tape or something like that perhaps place your in a case that does not have a camera place cut put or cover that up? I mean honestly unless someone gets ahold of your phone how are they gonna know if the camera is active?

[MOD] Camera drivers | No JPEG compression - UPDATE Sense 5

I was playing with camera drivers on my ONEX+ and managed to remove JPEG compression and also some auto enhance algorithms that sometimes can destroy the quality in some details which u can see if you zoom in specific parts of picture.
I did few pics around my garden and pics go up to almost 6MB now.

testing now. will report back.
EDIT: Can confirm this. Better images, larger file size, minimal amount of noise.
+1
EDIT 2: Using this on Blade rom, without extrim mod pack.
Will installing the mod pack change drivers or anything ? @ivicask Can you confirm this? Or provide a moded extrim camera which will cause no trobules ?
Thanks. And as always good work

This are stock Sense camera drivers with modification i did to them via hex editor.
It doesnt matter which camera app you use, this is direct modification to camera drivers, even if app you used before had "compression removed" it was not 100% true as libs where still limiting this and i unlocked it fully!
So it will work with any camera app
EDIT: I dont know what's extrim mod pack, but check inside of it if it contains the same libs as i provided in this zip.
EDIT2:I checked, that extrim mod pack only has Camera.apk, there no drivers included, so what i did is something different.
I'm gonna try it out on the latest ViperX and report back here. Thanks !
I still have no more than 3mb files. Any way to tell ifworking?
Can u also have the ability to unlock raw files?

Depends what are you taking a photo off, that 3mb file was 1.5 mb before, did you try taking a same photo before of same thing?
Also it may be limited by camera app you use if your not using camera mod that also has disabled compression.

I think all code is hidden on Qualcomm, so you cant edit nothing except from source.
Cool do you get better pictures with this using stock camera app? Or we need to use modded app?

Not sure, all Venom roms have moded stock app which allows setting Image encoding quality to 100%.
So try taking same picture with and without this moded drivers, if no change install camera mod, or some app from market which allows setting image quality (Like Camera JB+)
Thanks
I've just tried that, took one picture in my room, size 1,85MB, than installed your modded drivers, and took image again, same position, same object, but size is now 4,65MB ... so i guess it's working with stock app also

I think thats camera libs related, not camera, i did try to set compression to 0 (100 quality) but it ended up with inverted picture and all photos where just one big glitch.
Also dont think its good idea of getting RAW sensor data, libs fix alot of hardware imperfections, like dead pixels on camera which you may not even know you have, colors, saturation, brightness and so on, getting RAW data would produce alot of problems for many people.
But please tell me if u have more info than me and think im wrong .)

This one actually works
But seriously, reason i started working on this drivers because i notice my old HTC Sensation does better pictures than my ONEX+ and i was frustrated with this, and we are also using lyapota's camera mod on ONEX+ and i couldn't even notice difference until now.
Try and see your self.

ur right I also niticed that in lyapotas's mod pictures are the same size without mod about 1.8 mb. also not all modes uses 100% quality like macro , portrait etc. even if mod works changing scene loses compression effect.
will try this, tnx
THIS WORKS!!!!!!

We or better say you (think that you know more in this specific) could test it if we/you can get it working. The Image sense chip of the HOX could use the raw mode without problems dead pixels you maybe are right its tippical for samsung camera modules but could you just try it would be the ultimate photographer feature

U got to understand im hacking closed source libs, i cant do miracles, and probable its hardware limitation and no change to software will ever fix it.

(Q) Camera app missing?

So I toyed around with disabling some system apps and noticed my camera app disappeared. Now the question is which one is it?
My mistake, sorry..
Seems that Chromium rom does not have the camera app - just checked the rom kit.
Any way i can install one? I don't want to record, just photos..
Thanks!

How to install
>> A flashable zip for automatic installation is here
Thanks to @Einstein67
Manually:
Step 1:
Download required files
- Snapdragon Camera v2.1
- Snapcamtinyplanet.so
- Snapcammosaic.so
Step 2:
» Download the camera apk and lib.files [Snapcammosaic.so , Snapcamtinyplanet.so] into your device.
» Open any root explorer app and navigate to device/internal storage>system>lib>place the two lib files downloaded above{cut/paste}. Also change permissions to each lib to 0644 (-rw-r--r--).
» Similarly, place the snapdragon camera app [apk.file] in device/internal storage>system>app and again change permissions to apk to 0644 (-rw-r--r--).
» Now, reboot your device to activate the changes and enjoy! :victory:

Excellent! Thanks! Camera is lightning fast! No more delay after taking a pic
Lots of options, but can't save to SD card. It will save to USB OTG though, I clicked on this even though I had no USB plugged in and it gave me a toast of couldn't locate SD card, which won't go away now. It works nicely though and some will find it useful.
@jackshot you've forgotten a very important point. The permissions have to be changed on both the libs and on the apk too.

Will that change the quality of the pics too? I know it sounds silly to ask, but I installed it yday, it worked but photos looked worse (much, much brighter) than on stock app. Also, after using this app the normal camera apk wouldn't boot.

Right after trying this camera I tried the battery mod posted in the other sub-forum and unfortunately turned my phone into a brick. I solved it now but the photos are lost Not going to install it again, at the end of the day I realised that the oneplus app is the fastest and the google photo app will do the job too.

This camera worked, the only issue I had was that any other camera wouldn't open afterwards (had to fc the snapdragon camera), but maybe that's related to the missing permissions, that info came after I tried it.

Unlock longer shutter speeds

Hello everyone,
Long story short, just bought nexus 5x, I have developed a few kernels in past for various devices, and I am little bit disappointed with n5x camera.
Phone does make awesome pictures, but it lacks longer shutter speeds, I would like to unlock it. Some people say that it is hardware limited, some that software, so here I am asking you how is it for real, and please, answer with any arguments, proofs, I would like to avoid guessing.
I would like to know if there is any sense in trying to unlock it and digging through source code.
Cheers
I managed to take photos with 1 s shutter speed with L Camera.

Nexus 5 hardware is capable of capturing photos at 0.86s shutter speed (5x probably too). And this app uses this capability.
1 fps preview confirms this.

I confirm the with L-Camere 0.3 is possible to have a shutter time of 1s (if I select 1/1,2) and the night photos are incredible
I asked to ProShot developer if is possible to implement this feature on his great app. I hope that is possible....
Looks like HTC 10 has same camera sensor and it's camera app allows to use 2s shutter speed, unfortunately, none of htc camera app versions let's me go manual on our nexus.
Also Xiaomi YI 2 action camera has it, and it allows up to 30s while taking pics. So i guess I/we would have to edit camera libs. I also emailed lcamera creator but I don;t think that he will respond.

Hey guys, I have Nokia 8 (TA 1012) and I don't like the fact that the longest exposure time is 1/2 s. Can you help me override it? To unlock longer exposure time.
