Hello, All !
I've just bought the Defy,
I work at secured site and have to disable my phone camera.
Is there any option to do this using some software with no dealing with the hardware, means not to take the camera off the phone.
Sorry, but i don't know any program that does it.
Just a contextual question: what would be the difference if you have some app to disable the camera? if you want to take any picture, wouldn't you be able to re-activate the camera?
and btw, if you don't start the camera app, i guess it is not recording anything.
Just remove the camera app from your phone with rootexplorer, make a backup of the app first (BlurCamera.apk and BlurCamera.odex if you have a non deodexed rom) so you can put them back in the future.

According to the organization policy the camera should be disabled while I'm in, but the point is being able to re-activate the camera
during the weekends or vacations.

Sorry for the beginners questions :
1. How could I get rootexplorer ? should I reinstall rom for this ?
2. What is the path for the apps (BlurCamera.apk and BlurCamera.odex)?
Thank you

First you have 2 root your phone with superoneclick (instructions somewere on this forum).
Then you download rootexplorer (search with google) to get R/W permissions on the system folder.
The Camera app is in system/app.....
can't you just cover the camera with tape or something like that perhaps place your in a case that does not have a camera place cut put or cover that up? I mean honestly unless someone gets ahold of your phone how are they gonna know if the camera is active?

After countless downloads I found a camera apk that really has a silent shutter. It's called "Super Spy Camera+" and it is made exclusively for the Galaxy S line. Not a whole lot of features, so you'll want to keep a default camera apk installed, but it's just what the doctor ordered if you want to creep on someone and stay STOCK!
Link please
Samsung Galaxy S Dos indeed

Is this program completely silent? Rooted phones can easily eliminate the shutter sound, but not the auto focus beep. Thanks.

ABSOLUTELY Silent.
No auto focus, it's a bare bones camera apk, that's why you'll want another camera apk installed for your "legit" pics. Ha Ha.
And as far as ROOT goes, every phone I had and rooted was to run a GS2 type ROM. There is nothing out there that has me excited enought to even want to root my phone right now, too many issues at the present.
Here's a modified epic touch camera apk with the sound removed. Not my work; just posting the find.

That's cool but you have to be rooted. I'm not trying to roll the dice like that until we have more developement for this phone.
Spy Camera+ will install as a second camera apk, NO ROOT, without repalcing STOCK.
Good find, too many ads though, and the + version is 2 expensive for dat simple camera... vignette works better...

Vignette won't silent shutter sounds. My Super Spy Camera+ doesn't have ads. Do you even have it to be able to make such a statement, either of them?

The method that required root worked perfectly, 100% usage of the stock camera/camcorder app but without the auto focus or shutter sounds.
Rooting is really easy, and there is a way to do it and have the stock kernel (I wouldn't have rooted otherwise).
It's stupid you can't turn off the sound through the settings though... you could on my last HTC phone.
I am need someone who can really explain to me how to remove the stock camera shutter noise. I have the es file explorer and astro, there is nothing in my media folder. I am rooted but don't want to use a mod just to get rid of it. I have fast burst camera but just want to silence the stock camera. Please help!

good morning and welcome to xda, I see that you are a new member and will try and help you out. First off here is a link to what you requested. Secondly, may I suggest you try using all the search features available to you prior to posting. This will probably help you out a lot faster in the future. I used "silence camera epic touch" in a google search and the second choice was the link I attached. Also the search feature in xda although sometimes can be a PITA to use does come in handy at times.
I hope you accomplish your goal but if not I believe UnNameds rom which is quite a good rom I may add has the mod you are looking for... check the OP
Edit: Hopefully if you take my advice it may save you some unnecessary flaming in the future... Rule of thumb - You are not the first or the tenth person to inquire about what ever it is you want to post about.... Keep that in mind
I usually just open Root Explorer and go to system\media\audio\ui and remove camera sounds.

That only removes the shutter sounds. The focus sounds are inside the apk. Many custom Roms have a modded apk with sounds disabled. You could extract the camera from one and replace your stock camera app.

Doesn't help with the auto focus sounds. On;y with the shutter. The auto focus sounds are in the .apk so you have to use a modified version of the stock one in order to make it completely silent. See the link that was posted above you.
Most custom roms have the sounds removed anyway (well the AF anyway) so it normally not a concern. Here's a link to another silent camera. It also has edits in it for much better quality pictures (both front and back) and video. Either one will work if you're just trying to silence the sounds though.
So I toyed around with disabling some system apps and noticed my camera app disappeared. Now the question is which one is it?
My mistake, sorry..
Seems that Chromium rom does not have the camera app - just checked the rom kit.
Any way i can install one? I don't want to record, just photos..
Thanks!

You can use this one : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2341996
According to the QUALCOMM: Snapdragon camera app is designed to make it easier than ever to capture, edit, and share the moments that make life so special, which works with Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 800 series processors.
We have a powerful processor in OnePlus X, so we can benefit from this great Camera application. For extended details on the Snapdragon Camera, features and some samples please visit the official blog post here
How to install
>> A flashable zip for automatic installation is here
Thanks to @Einstein67
Manually:
Step 1:
Download required files
- Snapdragon Camera v2.1
- Snapcamtinyplanet.so
- Snapcammosaic.so
Step 2:
» Download the camera apk and lib.files [Snapcammosaic.so , Snapcamtinyplanet.so] into your device.
» Open any root explorer app and navigate to device/internal storage>system>lib>place the two lib files downloaded above{cut/paste}. Also change permissions to each lib to 0644 (-rw-r--r--).
» Similarly, place the snapdragon camera app [apk.file] in device/internal storage>system>app and again change permissions to apk to 0644 (-rw-r--r--).
» Now, reboot your device to activate the changes and enjoy! :victory:

Yeah I guess because you have to cut/paste the needed libs in the "system" folder..

Maybe later, dont have much time now, but until then just try it and see for yourself! It's a super easy procedure!
Excellent! Thanks! Camera is lightning fast! No more delay after taking a pic
Lots of options, but can't save to SD card. It will save to USB OTG though, I clicked on this even though I had no USB plugged in and it gave me a toast of couldn't locate SD card, which won't go away now. It works nicely though and some will find it useful.
@jackshot you've forgotten a very important point. The permissions have to be changed on both the libs and on the apk too.

Will that change the quality of the pics too? I know it sounds silly to ask, but I installed it yday, it worked but photos looked worse (much, much brighter) than on stock app. Also, after using this app the normal camera apk wouldn't boot.

Oh, my bad.. Actually a friend asked me to try it and I decided to share it with the community.. What permissions should we set on libs and apk? If you know, I will add it to instructions..

Right after trying this camera I tried the battery mod posted in the other sub-forum and unfortunately turned my phone into a brick. I solved it now but the photos are lost Not going to install it again, at the end of the day I realised that the oneplus app is the fastest and the google photo app will do the job too.

Well maybe it was battery mod's fault then?
I use Snapdragon Camera and I never had a problem or conflict with anything I flashed since then..

I'm almost sure it was the battery mod's fault, but I don't want to try it again
This camera worked, the only issue I had was that any other camera wouldn't open afterwards (had to fc the snapdragon camera), but maybe that's related to the missing permissions, that info came after I tried it.
Where's this app taken from? I also saw this post but they doesn't mention any source.

The files were sent to me by a friend in order to test them in my OPX.. I just shared them here with the community.
I guess he got it from Oneplus One's thread..
Working perfect! I was using it with Sultanxda CAF ROM in my Oneplus One and love it. Best camera App IMHO.
Thanks dude!

Followed steps exactly but it's not working. The app just starts goes to a black screen and closes

Hey guys,
I'm aware of the default app settings option to determine which app should be opened as per se. Yet, when setting Gcam as default, the oneplus camera app still triggers when swiping from the lockscreen or double tapping the power button.
Since someone with a 7 pro handed me proof, that he can, in fact open the gcam app from the those two mentioned scenarios, I will try my luck again here to find a way, how to do so, too.
Do you guys have any ideas? I'm rooted. Google cam apk is the arnova one. Had urnyx05 before. No difference.
Thank you so much! It's the only thing that is bothering me.
I don't think that's possible.I tried turning the original camera off and even then it didn't work. I have a 7T.
If you are rooted freeze the OOS camera. Easiest way to do this is to download SD maid from play store and grant su permissions.. find the OOS camera and freeze it.. I can't promise anything.. but it's worth a shot.

Just ask that person how it was done. Odds are it will be a similar process.
