I rooted my Desire using UnrEVOked 3 and can't find out how to unroot it, i've tried various methods from various forums such as installing different RUU's but i can't get it to work, i also can't access HTC Sync, i just want it to go back to the stock ROM without root if anyone knows how to do this it would be great, thanks!
Edit: I can now access HTC Sync, if that helps...

You need to find a ruu that matches your phone. But if you give us this little information we cannot help you.
- What errors did you get when running the ruu? And try to be exact.

I tried one of the WWE roms from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695667 I think it was the top download, it came up with something like please use the correct RUU and try again, I bought my phone Unlocked and I think it was unbranded if that helps, thanks!
It sounds like you are getting a "wrong CID" error. Which means that your phone wasn't originally unbranded.
Two possibilities.
1) find the correct RUU for your operator, that one should install properly
OR: 2) create a goldcard, many tutorials on the Web (Google for one), then the WWE RUU will successfully install. BUT you'll end up with a generic ROM, not the operator-specific one originally installed on your handset.

Is there any way that I can find out the exact RUU i need?
Sorry to sound noobish but I have no idea what a goldcard is, thanks for your help.
Use this guide to make a gold card, its pretty simple.

Not that I am aware of. I would try the ones from shipped roms that correspond with the network you use.
You should've thought about un rooting at the time you rooted it..
There is a method to find out which ruu you need. Find the threads I've started, and look for the guide on un bricking an slcd desire..the faq had the info you need
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
I'm trying to unroot to stock rom and stuff, and I have the Telus specific RUU file.
The quick gold card making, hex-edit free software is not a viable option because the website listed on the software is now gone;;
Also, which guide should I stick to? There are so many on the forums with different methods.
you can find which RUU is yours by trying to match the build number* (if you're still on the stock HTC Froyo ROM) to other RUU's, go to about phone, software and look for it there.
*I think it's the build number
hi, i also have almost the same problems. i tried the three WWE roms, and all the european roms, but it still doesnt work. and im getting an Error [170] or [120]. by the way my phone is not branded. my buildnumber is: 2.50.405.2 CL87995. what should i do now?

For error 170: Make sure you installed hboot drivers and htc sync drivers (correctly).
For error 120: It seems you got the wrong image. Please check you downloaded the right version. Reset your device ("clear storage") and then run ruu again.

I'm on T-Mobile UK and getting the DHD soon. I've done quite a bit of reading on rooting and I will definitely do it for the added benefits to my phone. I have two questions surrounding the subject...
1. The VISIONary page says to have a 'safety net' ready before attempting to permaroot. Can someone tell me, or point me in the right direction (Links would be nice) to preparing a copy of the stock ROM to reinstall if something goes wrong? If there are any guides please share =)
2. If I needed to send it for repairs would the only thing I really need to do is to use VISIONary to Unroot the phone? What about any apps that required rooting? Would they have to be un-installed first? I assume that in such a scenario once I got the phone back just re-root it again.
Hi and welcome to XDA.

One such "safety net" is to ensure you have all the correct drivers installed on your host computer, just install HTC Sync 3 and it will take care of that. Also download the correct RUU (Rom Update Utility) for your particular region & carrier. You can use this to revert your DHD to the state it was when you took it out of the box.
Here you can find the --> Desire HD Files. HTC Sync will come on the SD Card of your new phone.

Using the above RUU's your DHD will be factory restored. Everything you did will be reverted back. All the apps you installed will be removed. There would be technically no way HTC would know you rooted your DHD.

Thanks for the answer.
How do I know what RUU to use? From my glance I would assume mine would be the: TMO DE 1.39.111. Also know how I can confirm if it's the same version as mine or older? thanks.
If your getting it from T-Mobile UK then you will need a TMO-UK RUU, sadly there isn't one available yet. The TMO DE is for T-Mobile Germany.
You could use a generic HTC RUU, just find the latest version. If you are planning to root, S-OFF, etc... then avoid this --> RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.72.405.3_R_Radio_12.28e.60.140f_ 26.04.02.17_M2_release. As this will lock down your DHD.
Thanks again. Though I'm not sure if I shouldn't just wait for a TMO-UK RUU to make an appearance before I root my phone.....Would a generic HTC RUU work for my current firmware? Also wouldn't a generic RUU be a problem if I tried to send it back for repairs?
Oh also I heard mention of a gold card a couple of times here and there. Would this be needed for using an RUU?
No problem at all,
Yes a generic HTC RUU would work. I got my DHD from Orange UK, as it was from the first batch I received it unlocked & unbranded, just a generic HTC DHD. Although carriers will supply you with a branded & locked handset 99% of the time, people still get generic HTC handsets.
If it went in for repairs, T-Mobile will just replace the software for their own anyway.
A goldcard is a modified SD Card that will allow you to flash unsigned ROM's to a locked (S-ON) handset.
Hello,
I'm posting here in desperation, I really hope someone could help me.
I've recently bought a HTC Desire from O2. It was running Android 2.2 but I flashed cyanogenmod to it along with the latest radio.
Cyanogenmod worked fine but the radio stopped my 3G internet from working. In the end I decided to simply revert back to original setup using a RUU.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, the first RUU I tried ALMOST worked but then failed claiming a file was missing and that I needed to try a complete RUU.
From that point onwards I have been unable to find an RUU that will work - I constantly receive error code 140, bootloader version error.
Can anyone please tell me how to circumvent this error OR provide me with an O2 RUU that will work?
Here's the spec from my startup screen:
BRAVO PVT4 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT 0.93.0001
MICROP - 051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-5.09.05.30_2
Please note that the only option I have available to me from the boot-menu is RUU - Any option to enter recovery mode is not visible.
Please please help me, thank you so much in advance.
I wish I could give helpful advice...
I'm gonna try though.
Download one of the latest RUU's from here.
Perhaps your RUU was a bit old?
I've only ever done RUU once, when sending my phone back for repair. I encountered another issue.
To the OP, which RUU are u trying to use?

Make sure you've got a goldcard then do the downgrade. After that you should be able to do any RUU you like.
Lol just try a different radio. Have you manually set your APN?

Hi dehaani. In order to run the downgrade utility I surely need to be able to access my device (to enable usb debugging ) I currently can't get further than a grey HTC logo with exclamation marks in the corners? Is there a way to downgrade without the need to boot in to a ROM?
I've tried running almost all RUU I can find online, most of them result in Error 140: Bootloader version error.
I can't flash another radio because the only option I have available to me in bootloader is "RUU", no option to restore etc. How do I manually set my APN?! Would this involve access to the phone too?
Thank you all so much for your responses so far, please keep helping.
try again hope good luck
This might have been pot luck on my part getting through to someone who knew their stuff, but I had a problem when flashing Oxygen RC7 to my desire.
I had to ring o2 about another contract I have, used by a family member, and they asked if there was anything else they could help with so I jokingly replied "not unless you know about flashing replacement ROMs..." would you Adam & Eve it, the clever little badger only went and talked me through the issue I had come across on my Desire.
Might be worth giving them a bell if you cant find a solution online, I've always found them very helpful.

And to my knowledge you should not need to create a goldcard when you have an unbranded device.

Thank you so much for replying. I have yet to try out the guide you have mentioned in the link, however, I do need to ask one or two questions:
1. If I create a goldcard, will I be able to ever upgrade to the Official Gingerbread ROM, when it is released for India.
2. Can I switch between ROMs (stock/non-stock) seamlessly, without any complains.
I would really appreciate if you would really help me out here.

I had the same problem with downgrading to 1.3 as of the PD98IMG.zip. tried for 2 days and i kept getting the CID incorrect error. finally it came to me..i wasnt running the command prompt as administrator. it worked like a charm for me. that might be the reason why you're getting the CID incorrect error.

For your first question, no. And it has nothing to do with goldcard. I you are rooted and use some custom rom, you will not receive any official updates. Although you can at anytime go back to stock to get them.
But beleive me, when you start using custom roms, you do not need the official updates. I too am from India, and was waiting for the official 2.3.3, but finally a few days back decided to root and go for custom rom (RCMixHD Kingdom). And i am loving it..
So go ahead, make your goldcard.
And yeah, for your second, yes you can. Although, i dont think you will ever..
Hi.
My Device:
HTC Desire PVT4 SLCD rooted, s-off
since my homebutton doesnt work anymore i wanted to make use of my warranty and send in the device. Problem is: it was t-mobile branded, so i had to s-off the device and use those custom installations (with the slcd installer and the OTA update i had to rename to update.zip. got the tutorial from a german site whose admin is known for helping with desire problems and stuff)
i follwed the instructions 1:1 but it somehow didnt work properly
Problem: My device is stuck on a certain screen and wont boot anything anymore.
The screen: HTC logo in the middle, triangles with ! in every corner
absolutely no reaction to any keypresses, the only thing that produces some kind of reaction is plugging and unplugging the usb cable, which gives me a screen similar to the bootloader screen that says:
--- AlphaRev ---
BRAVO PVT4 SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-0.93.0001
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-5.11.05.27

RUU (the only "usable" option, though i cant use it. its in orange)
What do i do now?
My device is, as stated above a german t-mobile device.
ive googled for hours now but dont find anything particular (especially since there are so many different desires out there today and t-mobile doesnt seem to like people to get a hand on their newe RUUs, or do they?)
i found the austrian RUU on t-mobile.at though i read on some german sites that this wont work on my device (maybe brick it even more?)
on shipped-roms.com there is a UK t-mob RUU, though i dont know whether this is 2.2 (since 2.1 doesnt have SLCD drivers) so im not sure whether to flash this one either
Can i even use a RUU at this point?
if you need any information i maybe forgot, tell me and ill try to find out
thanks in advance

I think it is an UK ROM, so no German/Austrian one.
I found an thread in a German forum and they have linked an Austrian t-mobile RUU for Desire SLCD: http://www.t-mobile.at/servicedownloads4you/webnwalkmanager/HTC_Desire_Froyo_Update_RUU.zip
You need to unzip the file, don't flash the ZIP on your Desire!

Jerrol, here is a complete guide how to unroot the Desire:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=880268
It's easier than it seems ...
Short: After you flashed the stock Desire hboot (see here: http://alpharev.nl/) you can run the RUU via PC.
But don't try to install the RUU.zip via recovery. Just unzip it an run the .exe.
Cheers

Anyway, following the guide to unroot your Desire should be the best way to succeed

Hi.
You don't need to flash any HBOOTS or HBOOT donwngrader. Since you are S-ON you can't even do this, so exclude it from your steps and continue.
It can be a conflict with your HBOOT version if the RUU you are trying to run is too old and has a smaller HBOOT version (e.g. 0.80), and it won't install properly.
I always recommend to use the latest RUU available WWE 2.29.405.5, but this is at your discretion to choose. Also make sure your phone wasn't branded, or you'll going to need a Gold Card to install the RUU.

You need a Goldcard, yes. You have a branded phone. Only unbranded don't need it.
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=880268 Post 2 point 4 ff.:
4. Do I need a Goldcard?
If you have a recent version of the RUU for your Device, available on Shipped Roms, you dont need a goldcard. This is the usual scenario for people who purchased their Desire in Europe, and so have an unbranded Desire. All Branded Desires need a correct branded version of the RUU, and any other RUU including WWE (Worldwide English, or European) RUU will not work for them. Also if an unbranded Desire user wishes to change RUU to a branded version, he will need a Goldcard. This is because all Desires have a particular software tag in the Rom, called the InfoCID. This dictates the Region code. For Eg. An Indian Desire is branded and has InfoCID of HTC__038. When you change a RUU to different region, what you actually do is reset the InfoCID setting. Changing the InfoCID setting requires a Goldcard.
5. What is a Goldcard?
It is a normal MicroUSB card specially prepared in such a way that its Sector 0 (which normally doesnt hold anything useful) is modified, so that it signals to the HTC RUU that the InfoCID may be changed.
6. How do I create a Goldcard?
Just download this tool (Credits and All Rights by [email protected]), and run it.
7. Can you tell me more about Goldcards?
Sure. I've already posted it for you. Read the FAQs in this thread.

Hi you should make sure that the version ain't lower than what you have on your phone ( the version is 2.12.110.4 ), or, as I said, there will be a HBOOT conflict (if the HBOOT is lower).
Anyway I think you can give it a try without the Gold Card, since this is T-Mobile RUU, it should work, although it is recommended you make a gold card. There are lot's of threads on how to do this even without the phone.
Nothing bad will happen, besides the fact that it won't work and give you an error.

+1. I totally agree!
Hi I've been searching for days and have always been able to find answers but this one has got me.
My gf has a HTC Desire HD, pretty sure it's Vodafone since she works there. Tried to do a normal update a while ago and it never started since, just sits on the HTC logo. I can boot into fastboot hboot recovery and all that but I'm stuck as to what to do from here.
I have found a couple of WWE RUU's but the error out with a CID error, I've also found a Vodafone backup someone took from clockwork but this phone only has stock recovery and I don't know how to flash clockwork without being able to boot the phone.
Hoping someone might have an easy answer, please let me know if I need to provide more details.
Thanks.
If its rooted just place a rom on the sd and flash it with full wipe. You are not suppose to accept OTA updates if the phone is rooted if Im not mistaken. If not rooted then go to HTC websight and get the official RUU and install, instructions should be on websight.

Get me the CID and Iwill provide u with a ruu that works...VODAFONE from where? not all ruu's are available, but at least we can find one that makes your phone back to work...:good:
Unfortuanately it isn't rooted, I probably would've had more luck by now if it was.
I can't see the CID on the bootloader is there a command on fastboot or something to find this? I've been searching but can't find anything.
Sorry I thought of that afterwards, it's Vodafone Australia.
Thanks for the replies guys!
I just tried that European RUU thought I didn't have anything to loose but it came back with ERROR 132 Signature Error.
The Australian HTC site doesn't have a RUU to download that I can see.

yep, do the following: boot in hboot and choose fastboot. Then plug the phone (check that you see fastboot usb in red)
Open cmd as admin or a terminal as root and then, type fastboot getvar all. Get the INFOcidnum and paste it here. With that I will try to find a ruu that works. But stop trying flashing other things...you might mess the device.
Hi
Thanks again for the help. The cidnum: VODAP021
Hope this helps, I haven't checked out those other links yet though.

Solution!!
Ok firstly sorry it's taken me ages to post this but I finally came up with a solution to this problem using a few different guides and instructions on these forums.
So the problem was I had a Vodafone AU branded HTC Desire HD that had no root and a locked bootloader that was stuck in a bootloop after a failed official update. The main problem is that there is NO stock recovery ROM ANYWHERE for a Vodafone AU HTC Desire HD, trust me I looked and I am not new to looking for stuff like this. glevitan provided me with a WW ROM that I managed to get working with a bit of work, there are also many WW ROM's around that you should also be able to use. I'll try to explain as best I can as to how I got it to work (going from memory) so if anyone else has a similar problem they may be able to use this information.
1. Firstly find a suitable WW ROM to flash, it needs to be a PD98IMG.zip image to copy to an SD card. There is a Vodafone AU dump on this forum but that will not work if you are completely stock standard. I think you can get this zip from the RUU or maybe ask glevitan if he wouldn't mind helping in providing this again. I didn't want to link to his file but there are others around.
2. Create a goldcard. If you turn your SD card into a goldcard it will allow any ROM to be flashed, normally it would only accept the Vodafone AU one but by doing this it will accept the WW one. To do this I used a second phone to create the card.
I used the Ultimate multi tool which can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1180639
You may have to do a bit of reading on getting it to work, from memory you have to put in a number to a website to generate a file, I think I ended up using a different website, there's a few options in getting this done, google is your friend for this
3. Once the goldcard is created copy the PD98IMG.zip to the root directory and put it back into the phone.
4. Turn on the phone and boot to hboot by holding vol up (I think) on power on. The phone should automatically check for a suitable PD98IMG.zip file and as long as the goldcard process worked and you have a suitable ROM on the root directory it should flash it fine.
This is basically what I did and it successfully booted after a lot of looking around. I hope this helps people in the future with similar problems. If you need to ask any questions about this process as I haven't provided every single detail please feel free to contact me and I will do my best to help you out.
Thanks again to glevitan for helping and providing a suitable ROM to flash.
