hello i recently falshed a new update of reflex s 2.0.8 and i noticed that location through wireless network is not working. i tried to install previous version that it worked but i had the same issue. now i run google maps and it says "current location temporeraly unavailable" pleasse help
Use gps to locate, imho it's more precisely.
Did you check your settings? Go to Settings > Location and make sure "Use wireless networks" is checked.
everything is checked and agreed. i know that i can use gps but the thing is i want the location because firstly the gps wont work inside the house and secondly phone needs to find location for current weather location and some other local sstuff.
i tried to locate myself from the laptop through google maps but it wouldnt locate me either. when i do that it asks me permission for google to collect data and find my location, i give permission but it wont find me. is it possible that this is google's problem? i havent tried using another network yet
problem solved. it was the network connection after all, i tried to connect through a different connection and it worked perfectly

Hello all...
I've been using a HTC Prophet since it's been "misplaced" 2 weeks ago. I've then decided to go for an unlocked TP2 and been marveling at it since
So, here's the deal. I live in Mauritius and since this is my first GPS device, I have absolutely no clue on how to use it. The only two things I have GPS related is Google Maps and a QuickGPS app. First, I have to ask. Do I need a data connection for the GPS to work?
If I connect through wifi at home and launch Google Maps, I get a completely wrong fix on my location, sometimes Bolivia and sometimes India. I've tried using the QuickGPS and after it successfully downloads the update, I'm still pointed to a wrong location. I've tried enabling "Use GPS" in Google Maps and I get no satellite connections.
But if I'm on the road, is it right that I should have a data connection for the GPS to work? And what about the wrong location given out by Google Maps?
Thanks for helping me out here
Hi Jedi,
I'll try to help you out here...
So, the phone has a GPS receiver built in. This receiver will work independently of a data connection (GPRS, EDGE, 3G, WiFi) and will get a location fix from the satellites. The phone is also capable of A-GPS (Assissted GPS) which uses the mobile network to assist the GPS in acquiring a location fix. The QuickGPS application will download the latest satellite data to the phone which can help decrease the time it takes to get a location fix.
Now, if you are using Google Maps, you will need a data connection because the application does not store the maps on the phone but actually downloads them as needed. Your inconsistencies with the location fix is most likely because of the WiFi connection you are using. If you have a data plan on your account, you will have much better results getting an accurate location fix using the wireless data from your service provider. Also, if you are inside, the GPS may not be getting good signal from the satellites, so try it again next time you are outside.
Additionally, if you use an application such as Garmin Mobile XT, the maps are stored on the memory card and you do not need any data service to navigate. For example, I have used the Garmin app on my Touch Pro 2 to navigate in my car without a SIM card in the phone or any WiFi connection.
Hope this helps
Following up on Nick's post . .
Make sure your GPS is set to "On" in the location settings under phone. By default, it's probably set to "911". You'll have to do a reset and you'll get a warning about the GPS being enabled (on the first reset only).
In Google Maps, make sure the GPS is selected (Menu, Use GPS) and go outside for the GPS to get it's first lock. You may have to leave the phone outside for a while (half hour or so) to get your first lock, but locks should be within 30 seconds or so after that.
thanks a lot nick for all those helpful info! I'll try to find Garmin Mobile XT but I doubt that they'll have a Mauritius map...
Hi SecretAgentMan. If I go in the Phone settings in TP2, I don't see a GPS settings. I only have Phone (Ring Type, Ring Tone, etc...), Services (Call Barring etc...), Network (Automatic), Band (Auto), Pin1/Pin2, Time Zones, More (Auto pickup etc...) and Advanced (Reject call with message etc...) but no "Location" setting where I can set GPS to "On" and nothing where I can see "911". In Google Maps, I've already set "Use GPS" and will try to leave the phone outside for that long...
Thanks again!
hi all! it works beautifully! I've been using it with Google Maps and I have to keep an open data connection cause of the map updates but it works very well. I got around 5,6 and sometimes 10 sats. It keeps on tracking though even after the data cut which means the GPS is fully functional and it's just google maps that's not being updated so everything's cool. Thanks a lot to you all!
Hi Jedi,
I'm glad to see you got your GPS working. Google maps is great but the Garmin app has superior routing with turn by turn directions and voice prompts. I looked online and they do have maps for Mauritius but I'm not sure the cost. You can do a google search for "Garmin Mauritius" and you may find what you are looking for.
Does anyone know why when quick gps expires, it doesnt automatically update? I am on a custom ROM (mightyrom 2/1) on a CDMA Tp2 (SPRINT). the quick GPS data expires and says EXPIRED but is never automatically updated until I manually do an update. I have it set to automatically update. is there a service or something that needs to be running??
Expired means the 7 days are up that the satellite positioning was good for. It should download new positions which will then say 7 days...
Seems to work fine when I use wireless or when I update synced to my PC...
Thanks.. I know what expired means on QUICK GPS. the issue is that it NEVER UPDATES the data. I have it set to DOWNLOAD AUTOMATICALLY and ALSO to DDOWNLOAD when connected to a PC. NADA.. is there a service that needs to be running or something??
anyone with a solution??
You only need an active internet connection for the update to run. There are no services required to be running for the update. Try opening an internet connection, either 3G or wifi and then manually run the update to make sure the quickgps program itself is not corrupted. If it does update manually, likely you need to change the internet settings to allow programs to open a 3G session.

Thanks for the info.. It does run manually and everythng else runs on its own wihtout me doing anything such as EMAIL, weather, facebook tab updates, etc etc etc... I think its only the quick GPS not running when the data expires.
I also have the check in the down when connected to USB and it doesnt do that either wen I am connected to my computer...
Mine is always up to date. I look every few weeks, and quite unlike my original Tilt, it's always up to date.
check your connections page under network management and make sure of the selection under "programs that automatically connect to the internet should connect using". I am not sure on sprint, but at&t uses "medianet" for such connections. Try one or more of these settings to see if it makes a difference. Your mail programs are always open, running in the background, and quickgps starts up, runs and shutsdown, so it must enact a web connection, where your mail does not. Likely, since the program works manually, the settings here are not correct

I just checked and under programs that automatically connect it was set to "MY WORK NETWORK" .. then there is program that connect to a private network .. its also set to MY WORK NETWORK. I changed the top on to the choice called SPRINT .. I bet that solves it... Should I worry about the other setting for private networks?
EDIT: I changed it to SPRINT but it keeps resetting to "MY WORK NETWORK" .. how do I fix this? is there a registry setting for this?
EDIT: I put sprint for BOTH SETTINGS and it appears to save... do I need to worry about the PRIVATE NETWORK SETTING since I dont have any VPN set up on the phone.. the MY WORK NETWORK does not have any settings in it...
No, don't worry about it. It is just another option to set up alternate connections, if you need them. Leave it at Sprint for your internet connections and you should be fine. Write more if you need help,
Im on a new ROM and once again QUICKGPS is not automatically downloading when expired.. I followed the fix on here that works on the other rom I was running.. any ideas? Im on mighty 6/20
anyone??? no ideas??
Guys, I just purchased Sprint Touch Pro 2 and using it in Europe (GSM).
Though when I try to run the GPS application, it forces me to download the latest satellite data but even if my phone is connected to the internet via USB, it doesn't download anything.
Any idea why it isn't working? And also, why does the software needs to download stuff from internet, a GPS device should be finding the satellites himself, without any "aid" from external sources.
Hi,
Since froyo update my Google voice searches are not showing information based on my location from GPS, it’s only using cell towers. If I uncheck network based location then it gives option to use my location but still no default my location results. Has anyone noticed similar problem? I did a factory rest but still same problem. Please advice. Thank you.
Hello, i am using the Sprint LG G3 and have an issue with my location services.
Setting are set to High Accuracy:Network,Wifi and gps.
However, in some areas my location is off by 10miles or more.
I used the Sprint Zone diagnostics tool and it shows my network location accurate to within 95000 ft and GPS accurate to within 65ft.
Changing network from LTE to CDMA did not help, but changing location settings to Device sensors only (GPS) fixes it (however i cannot use Google Now with only GPS enabled.)
It seems my phone is only using the network location even though GPS is more accurate, shouldnt the phone use the most accurate reading if it is set to use all 3 types of location settings?
This occurs in the stock weather app, Google+, Google Maps etc...
Any advice?
I can say I have similar issue instead of GPS not working the location service through 4G service seems not working since v10l firmware, for 3G seems working intermittently, even now I am using v20a it is still acting like on v10n
has anyone else run into this issue? my wifi seems to be on the fritz. a week ago i could search and add new wifi networks just fine. however, recently my wifi only connects to previously saved networks. when doing a search, it shows up completely blank. what's peculiar is that when i downloaded "wifi analyzer" from the play store, and did a search, i can see the wifi networks all perfectly fine. it's just the wifi search within settings shows up NOTHING.
Yes it happens but not sure why. I just restart my phone... Sometimes i put it on/off airplane mode and it works again. I think its something to do with location cause when i enable it then it sees the network

Hmm, why should location be a precondition to see what wifi networks exist ?
