[Q] [SOLVED] unrEVOked 3: Is your firmware too new? - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I need to solve this real quick.
I'm using Desire with stock 2.2 and wanna root it with unrevoked 3 and here's what happened.
After I put my device to USB debugging mode, ticked at install from unknown sources, USB charge only mode and run the latest unrevoked 3 as administrator (also disabled the Kaspersky). It went well and I got stuck at HBOOT so I installed the HBOOT Driver from unrevoked website and it then continued the process. But I got an error after rebooting. It says "is your firmware too new?" Then I thought that I once did the force everything to SD, so I opened up the command and setInstallLocation 0 instead of 2. Then run the unrevoked again but it still says the same. So I went through threads, some users reported that their device has too few internal space, mine is not but I, anyway, uninstalled a couple of apps and have about 30MB left (from about 17MB) then run it again. But it still says the same.
What should I do?
This is the info about my device:
Bravo PVT1 S-ON
HBOOT 0.93.0001
Radio 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2
I've posted before in the wrong section but there was a reply said "The solution is to clear storage/factory reset and it will work. This failure belongs to any app or you can uninstall any app that you are using." Is that means there is an app obstructing the device from being rooted? I rather don't want to factory reset because I want to make a Titanium backup all apps + app's data before installing the new ROM.
If more infos needed, please ask it right away and many thanks in advance.

Try to root again with version 3.22:

Dude, believe me its about an app that you can't get root access
nobody will have a solution for that, you have to clear storage.
Or uninstall each and every app and try to root.

Gosh. OK I believe you. I just don't want to shoot those red birds all over again from stage 1 or try to jump higher and higher to get a high score (if you know what I mean)
OK summarize this thing: I've to factory reset. All I can do is backup my SMS, apps (no data) to my SD with an app from the Market like appmonster. Right?

I'm now ROOTED.
This morning after I had breakfast, I opened the app 'appSaver' and clicked at uninstall tab and I found something that I believe it came from unrevoked because it had unrevoked's icon but the name was something starting with 'Z' I can't remember. So I uninstalled it and I think this will be the last time trying to root or I'll factory reset. And it worked.
I went flawlessly through the process and got my Desire rooted (with latest unrevoked).
Thanks everyone!

Precisly what happened to me, refused to root the 1st time until I read this and removed Zysploit, then ran it again and BINGO!!
Thanks all

Removing Zysploit did the trick !!!
Superb!!
Just ran a successfull root with unrevoked again as the first try failed.
Removing Zysploit and restarting unrevoked did the trick. YESS!!!!
Would have never found that one if not pointed to using this thread and was close to an unnecessary factory-reset... (phew!).
Bas.

Ive found with some desire devices after u uninstall htc sync and install hboot drivers..reinstall htc sync then run unrevoked3 and viola!! S-off
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

Move Zysploit app from SD to internal
This should work if you have SD card as your default install location (probably by earlier "adb shell pm setInstallLocation 2" command), so Zysploit is stored on your SD card, but deletion of this app doesn't work.
1) Move Zysploit from SD card to internal memory and try to root again.
2) If that fails, try to root once more.
3) If that fails too, delete Zysploit's data only (not the app) and try to root again.
(And if for some reason that fails too, try again step 2 or 3...)
Worked for me

I have an EVO on the Fresh 4.2.0.0, on the 2.3.3 android system, S-OFF, but I have error messages that says I'm not rooted. My superuser keeps force closing and I have no idea what to do. I also get the same error message.

Even for me the latest version of Unrevoked gave the error: your firmware is too new. I had to use Unrevoked v3.21 to accomplish the task.

Can't use Titanium Backup anymore...

Hi, I am sorry I have to open another thread but I am very desperate!
I used "One Click Root" to root my SGS and worked great!
After I installed Titanium Backup to removed some default apps. So far so good.
The problem comes when i installed Clockwork Recovery to backup my Rom before removing the apps. I followed the guide, the phone rebooted but didn't go to the new recovery screen (yes, I had the update.zip in the right place). After rebooting the Titanium Backup said I didn't have a rooted rom.
I runned "One Click Root and Unroot" many times and wiped my phone to stock. After rooting the Titanium Backup keeps telling me the same.
How can I fix this? I am afraid this is not my only problem since my phone can't connect anymore to my AP (it can't get an ip address).
Please help me!
What version of firmware, plus any custom rom packages and/or kernel mods, were you using? It's hard to help without knowing some really basic info like that.

I have stock rom JF5 with update-1. All other apps seem to see my root priviledges. But the titanium can't! And I cant find to fix My AP connection problem. Is tere a way to REALLY clean my SGS or to fix this? All I did was the steps I said before...
Maybe you need latest busybox installed. Do a search on forums for version 1.17. Also email the developer as titanium backup has has lots of problems on age for me with restores and only the 3.3. 5.2 only kinda works for me

No I didn't because I could't store my stock rom. Would an upgrade to Froyo (the official one) fix this? I can't connect to any wi-fi network (can't seem to fix an IP address...).
By using a terminal emulator can I reconfigure my wi-fi configuration or IP aquisition? How could I do this?

Those were the stpes I followed the first time and it worked great. After trying Clock Recovery then Titanium stoped working. I managed to fix my WLAN problem (so so). I can use Wi-Fi if I connect with a static IP but for that i need to connect to the network first with a computer so I can get the DNS IP. It's more trouble but at least my Wi-Fi works again!
Still no go on Titanium....

[Q] Revoked 3 and Evo

I recently read a posting on TalkAndroid.com about Revoked, sounded pretty good and so I went to try it out. Downloaded the Mac version ( It's what I work on here at my job ), installed it. Then followed it's instructions setting the USB to Debugging. Once that was done it proceeded ( after I pressed Ok ) to begin the rooting process. Only thing is that it stopped, said "Failed to get root, is your firmware too new?".
I didn't see a listing of firmwares that were compatible with Revoked 3 and was just wondering if anyone else has dealt with this? Any information would be great, my phone is in perfect working order so no worries there.
Thanks
No one has any ideas on this?
you have to uninstall some apps. some of them keep unrEVOked from working properly. The one that was preventing me was the ESPN scorecenter.
Yeah.... Not sure. I know it took me several tries to achieve root with it but it eventually worked.
Sounds like you do not have all the necessary drivers. Did you install then uninstall HTC sync?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I don't have HTC Sync on the Mac, so I know it's not that. I'll uninstall the ESPN app and maybe just reset it completely to factory settings first. That way I can be sure it's got nothing to bother it then.

[Q] z4root error message

I have been using z4root for a while. Today when I pressed wireless tether I got a message. Unable to tether is your device rooted. I am using version 1.3.0 I tried reinstalling the software. That did not work. When I root my phone it says I am rooted when I press wireless tether I get serveral messages the first one says sorry but your kernel does not have all necessary features for running this application. I tried pressing ignore then I got message that this application will not work properly. Then I get message that says unable to start tethering is your device rooted. My software z4root says I am rooted and seems to work. Yet the wire less tether does not see that I am rooted.
Yesterday I got the update message on Android incredible. But it did not work. Got the not enough space message. I did move a lot of my apps to my sd card could this be the problem? I also have enabled acess control in wireless tether app. Also enable wifi encryption is checked? I still have version 2.2. Please help me I love using this.

Well in the developers world we call it permanent because you can restart/turn off and the device stay rooted. Unlike temporary you restart and the root is gone

Your default connection type has to "charge only" and "never ask". Also, you have to check "unknown sources" under settings>applications, and usb debuging has to be checked.
Have you installed the adb drivers on your pc?
Also htc sync can not be installed in your pc when using unrevoked.

Yes! Flash a custom Rom and Kernel and you will see a great improvement on battery life. The best kernels I have used with great battery performance are Incredikernel and Gingertiny. Do some research first then start flashing, and make sure you do a backup before flashing anything.

When you back up with recovery it backs up your entire phone to the clockwork folder on your sdcard. It is highly recommended that you copy the backup folder to your pc on a regular basis just in case something goes wrong with your sd.
Ok just downloaded clockwork. Haven't really done anything else with the phone since it is rooted. Other than get wireless hotspot.
I am just learning about Roms and Flashing. What OS system would you recommend for the incredible. I installed Rom Manager. That is where I got clockwork from. Seems like an easy program. Do I need to erase anything on my phone manually before I put a new OS system on it?
Never mind just rebooted and everything is there.
Just backed up my sd card. But Now it shows empty on my phone and it says sd card needs to be mounted when I open ROM manager. How do I get my stuff back on the SD card? I just copied it to a file on my computer. I do not understand what happended to everything on the card.
PLEASE HELP
I clicked on clockwork recovery it went through the process. When I look at the clockwork file on my sd card it does not say anything about a back up there are some files in download folder is that the backup? Is there any OS that I can install that won't wipe the phone clean? And if I do wipe the phone how do I put back my stuff like ringtones etc.
There are a ton of things you can do to save battery life... Search the threads and you will find a lot of info....
Some things to start with... Turn off phone finder, use ROM toolbox to increase WiFi scan intervals, use sleep mode at night, don't use ES file explorer, etc
Lots of options

Ok, so I ran the tool choosing 'Universal Exploit' and 'Flash HBOOT Image' and it all goes swimmingly until the device reboots. I get taken to the phone+red triangle warning screen and a 'cannot find file' error pops up (see attached image file).
Any ideas? Device is defo set to USB Debugging mode. Was plugged in as 'Charge Only' - should this suffice? Or should it be connected via HTC Sync or something else?
Cheers for any help OP.
P.S. Was able to reboot 'phone fine, so nothing bad has happened

OK, so I tried your app again but this time didn't bother with Flash HBOOT Image and everything appeared to go OK.
However, I noticed in the log that 3 of the files (Busybox, su and Superuser.apk) had failed to copy across (out of memory?), despite the operation apparently having been completed (see attached jpg).
Also, when the device had rebooted, I tried to use the Application Status Bar and received the following error message:
"application Status Bar (process com.android.systemui) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."
Click to collapse
The above message also contained a 'Force Close' button which on pressing obviously disables the Status Bar.
The device is still working, other than this error, but I'm not seeing any change to root capability - guessing it's because Busybox, su and Superuser failed to copy across? Could I just copy them on to the device manually?
Cheers in advance for any info.
Free up some memory on your device and be sure to delete everything in /data/local/tmp also. I will add error checking for the out of memory error in next release.
Sent from my HTC Desire S using Tapatalk 2
Unfortunately, after doing the above, running the app is still giving the same error and the Application Status Bar is also still giving the same error.
To make doubly sure, I backed up my device and restored it to Factory Settings (which cured the original app Status Bar error). This also meant that all data was erased from the device so memory shouldn't be an issue. However, as said above, the app is still returning the same memory error?
I'm happy to keep giving this a go so let me know your thoughts.
Hopefully we'll get to the bottom of it.

Don't worry, chap, I don't think there's anything fake about what you're trying with this app. Unlike the person above who claimed you were. I mean, £500 to un-brick a Wildfire S?!?! You could probably buy 4 of them brand new for that amount of cash!
Is it worth me giving your updated version of the app another go? If the app finds an error with HTC patching the exploit will the app simply terminate and return my device to its original state?
Any info greatly appreciated.
Cheers.

I need to figure out why the files will not push to the device. It looks like temp root is achieved which is half the battle. At least you know the exploit works on your device. I'll look into the out of memory error.

[Q] Noob+root=hairloss, need help with GT-S5560

So, I heard some while a go that it is possible to have flash in GIO. Me being a totally helpless with tech I asked my friend of a friend of a friends cousin to ROOT my phone. Well that went smoothly, I did not get flash on my mobile´s websites but instead I can´t connect my Gio to PC via USB... NUTS!
And "the Friend" can´t help me no longer...
So here are the problems, I can´t connect to PC, no matter what. Tried de-buggin, un-installed drivers <-> installed drivers. Nothing...
Also I have that app I don´t really want ( or do I?), called SuperSU which is´nt working, says something about "binary needs to update -> Fail". How the h*ll i´m gonna get rid of that? Is that app that lost my USB-connection? Did I do it?
So could some one please tell me, 1) How to remove SuperSU-app or how to fix it (I you think that I should have it). 2) Any ideas how to solve USB-issue. 3) If I need to install any app´s, softwares and so on, links would be great. Working ones...
Here´s some specs from my phone, GT-S5660, Android ver. 2.3.6, "somethingsomething" S5660XXKT6, Core(?) 2.6.35.7-perf-CL1006648, "mumbojumbo" GIGERBREAD.XXKTI. SuperSU v0.98
Ask for more information if you need it, i´ll try to explain the best I can, english is´nt my language. Me no enklish, me finnish.
... Is it possible to have flash on GIO?
superSU is the app that gives away root acces to apps and to the system.
you need to use wifi or 3G and update the binairy
for usb, make sure you fully disabled Kies and killed it with the task manager

Thanks for reply. SuperSU won´t update, not on wifi or 3G. Just says "update failed".
I have deleted Kies from laptop, cleaned registry, even removed all usb-drivers then restarted laptop(did that with WIN7 an XP-PRO), yell´ed at my neighbours and blamed the cat.
Still no connection, I can connect NOKIA with usb-cable, the cable recharges my Gio but no luck with connecting... I quess that damn thing is broken.
I´ll focus now on removing that superSU, which will be a weeks job at my skills...
Thanks anyway.

Yes, it´s the cable that came with Gio. Can´t find Nokia´s cable so I could try that one. How do I check that if my phone has a custom rom that is´nt suitable or something like that. I really don´t know what that friend of my did to my phone, BUT the problem occured after his I´ll have your phone going like Räikkönen in Abu Dhabi-tuneup.
Really i think u should unroot it if u think root cause this problem.

Just tried that one, correct me if I´m wrong but unrooting is done by using unroot.zip (the one for superSU)? because that did´nt do the trick. For now I have done unroot.zip, wipe all data from phone (to factory re-set or whatcamacallit), boot-> voilá, theres that superSu still, version 0,98 if I recall.
I know that the bigges problem is in front my laptop´s screen, AKA my face, but as I earlier stated, me no computers.
I wish someone would make an app that removes all of these root-thingies and gives you a free nokia 3310
Thanks for reply, I won´t give up. There must be a simple answer for this. I just have to find it, or someone gives it me... Latter the better.
Ooh ooh, FYI, now I have these two app´s in my phone. SuperSU and Superuser, should I just quit fidling with my phone
...and now when I connect my phone to laptop, win7 gives every 3 sec. a message that one of the USB-hardwares is in errormode or something (I´m bad at traslating), it sounds like a intro of a Skrillex-song...

Yep, if you mean flash´ing is done by the the method of power+"that large button at bottom of my phone" and install update->unroot.zip then yes, app won´t go. Do I have a wrong file? Are those files spesific to a certain app? The trick is to get two superuser-apps is klick+klick+yes+fustration+install+hope+i don´t know. If I could I would give you better info... You mean that SuperSU (the one with cyan droid with red cape) and Superuser (the one with green droid and a eyepatch) shouldnt exist in a same phone? This is going straight to the twilightzone.
If you are confused, quess how I feel:laugh:
And either of them won´t update binary...
Oh, and yes, no ( ) I can´t uninstall either of those app, well from phone´s uninstall-section, butt that do´snt uninstall these apps for good... They are still there when I go to settings+apps+manage apps+all-> there they are.
Using WIN7 and XP.
LOL, one T too meny...

Yea one Superuser app is enough to get root access and now I cant even give more ideas more confused
if you still have rootacces, use a file browser and delete superuser.apk and supersu.apk in system/app

Here´s where I´m at now, SUPERuser says: su binary vlegacy (0) -rwsr sr-x root root System/bin/su. When I do update I get this: Checking installed version:Legacy(written in red), Gaining root acces: fail! (allso written in red).
SuperSU says " The SU binary needs to be updated. Continue?" -> "Installation failed!".
Busybox installer says my device is rooted
Root checker basic says Sorry! This device does not have proper root acces.
Got root says "Successfully located ´su´(superuser) on the device. Failed to obtain root privileges through ´su´.
Honestly, I don´t know is my phone rooted or not

may be your root access was lost, try to root the phone again.
Ya, unrooting and rooting again would work.
I had a similar problem after a factory reset.
maybe something wrong with your device. not in the OS. CMIIW

i don't think it related with hardware, root is related with software (OS).
Right, here´s where I´m at. Now my phone IS rooted, it also have android 4.0.4 and CyanogenMod9
Done some fidling you see...
But still no connection via usb, I´m starting to think that it is a hardware-related problem. It does charge my phone, but no connection for file transfer.
So for now I will be happy for these settings.
Just need to get the a2sdgui working propely, can´t move apps from phone to sd.
Thanks for all of you´s for help

maybe its more a pc-related problem too, reinstall drivers and make sure KIES is not running(deinstall it) and try on other pc's too.
have look at this for Apps 2 sd on ICS

I think there's no problem with a rooted phone. You just need to do some homework before you started at it. Let me help you by explaining you some words and some help.
Root: when you root your phone you are able to flash roms on your phone.
Recovery mode: the menu that you get when you touch the on button + the OK button.
Flashing: installing a rom.
Rom: a kind of system on your phone. After rooting you can put these on your phone like iOS or
ICS.
When you are rooting your phone, you need a new recovery mode: Clockwork mode recovery. You can install this as the same way like flashing a rom. After that you can apply the update.zip package. Now your phone us rooted and when you reboot your phone you have a new app: SuperSU (or superuser) This app gives apps permission to other apps. Now you are able to flash any rom you want. Just google on: roms for /thenameofyourphone/ and you get enough results. Some roms are really great and are smooth and have a nice theme like android 4.1 or ios. Just download the rom. Put it on yor sd card. Go into recovery mode (clockwork mode recovery). Backup current rom, do a factory reset, wipe cache and install the rom. After flashing you must reboot your phone and ENJOY!
You can also download link2sd which allows you to move ALL you apps to your sd card. By the way. When you have rooted your phone it isn't bad but you have to read very much and after a while you will understand everything and you will enjoy your favourite rom.
-sorry for bad english-
