[Q] Revoked 3 and Evo - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently read a posting on TalkAndroid.com about Revoked, sounded pretty good and so I went to try it out. Downloaded the Mac version ( It's what I work on here at my job ), installed it. Then followed it's instructions setting the USB to Debugging. Once that was done it proceeded ( after I pressed Ok ) to begin the rooting process. Only thing is that it stopped, said "Failed to get root, is your firmware too new?".
I didn't see a listing of firmwares that were compatible with Revoked 3 and was just wondering if anyone else has dealt with this? Any information would be great, my phone is in perfect working order so no worries there.
Thanks

No one has any ideas on this?

you have to uninstall some apps. some of them keep unrEVOked from working properly. The one that was preventing me was the ESPN scorecenter.

Yeah.... Not sure. I know it took me several tries to achieve root with it but it eventually worked.

Sounds like you do not have all the necessary drivers. Did you install then uninstall HTC sync?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App

I don't have HTC Sync on the Mac, so I know it's not that. I'll uninstall the ESPN app and maybe just reset it completely to factory settings first. That way I can be sure it's got nothing to bother it then.

WOOT! I'm ROOTED and Backed Up now I'm getting Cyanogen!

Can't use Titanium Backup anymore...

Hi, I am sorry I have to open another thread but I am very desperate!
I used "One Click Root" to root my SGS and worked great!
After I installed Titanium Backup to removed some default apps. So far so good.
The problem comes when i installed Clockwork Recovery to backup my Rom before removing the apps. I followed the guide, the phone rebooted but didn't go to the new recovery screen (yes, I had the update.zip in the right place). After rebooting the Titanium Backup said I didn't have a rooted rom.
I runned "One Click Root and Unroot" many times and wiped my phone to stock. After rooting the Titanium Backup keeps telling me the same.
How can I fix this? I am afraid this is not my only problem since my phone can't connect anymore to my AP (it can't get an ip address).
Please help me!
What version of firmware, plus any custom rom packages and/or kernel mods, were you using? It's hard to help without knowing some really basic info like that.

I have stock rom JF5 with update-1. All other apps seem to see my root priviledges. But the titanium can't! And I cant find to fix My AP connection problem. Is tere a way to REALLY clean my SGS or to fix this? All I did was the steps I said before...
Maybe you need latest busybox installed. Do a search on forums for version 1.17. Also email the developer as titanium backup has has lots of problems on age for me with restores and only the 3.3. 5.2 only kinda works for me

Will do. Now i will go to bed (it's 5 a.m. in Portugal) and tomorrow i'll give you feedback. hope it works. I should have removed the apps before... now I have to endure with them still and worst with no way to remove them... Thanks for you help!

No I didn't because I could't store my stock rom. Would an upgrade to Froyo (the official one) fix this? I can't connect to any wi-fi network (can't seem to fix an IP address...).
By using a terminal emulator can I reconfigure my wi-fi configuration or IP aquisition? How could I do this?

I'm expering the same problem. i use samset 1.9d with it's lag fix. I guess the problem is that TB dosen't follow the sysmlinks. ATM i try to rewrite the init script, so that it bind mounts the direcotries in data...

Those were the stpes I followed the first time and it worked great. After trying Clock Recovery then Titanium stoped working. I managed to fix my WLAN problem (so so). I can use Wi-Fi if I connect with a static IP but for that i need to connect to the network first with a computer so I can get the DNS IP. It's more trouble but at least my Wi-Fi works again!
Still no go on Titanium....

[Q] [SOLVED] unrEVOked 3: Is your firmware too new?

Hi
I need to solve this real quick.
I'm using Desire with stock 2.2 and wanna root it with unrevoked 3 and here's what happened.
After I put my device to USB debugging mode, ticked at install from unknown sources, USB charge only mode and run the latest unrevoked 3 as administrator (also disabled the Kaspersky). It went well and I got stuck at HBOOT so I installed the HBOOT Driver from unrevoked website and it then continued the process. But I got an error after rebooting. It says "is your firmware too new?" Then I thought that I once did the force everything to SD, so I opened up the command and setInstallLocation 0 instead of 2. Then run the unrevoked again but it still says the same. So I went through threads, some users reported that their device has too few internal space, mine is not but I, anyway, uninstalled a couple of apps and have about 30MB left (from about 17MB) then run it again. But it still says the same.
What should I do?
This is the info about my device:
Bravo PVT1 S-ON
HBOOT 0.93.0001
Radio 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2
I've posted before in the wrong section but there was a reply said "The solution is to clear storage/factory reset and it will work. This failure belongs to any app or you can uninstall any app that you are using." Is that means there is an app obstructing the device from being rooted? I rather don't want to factory reset because I want to make a Titanium backup all apps + app's data before installing the new ROM.
If more infos needed, please ask it right away and many thanks in advance.

Dude, believe me its about an app that you can't get root access
nobody will have a solution for that, you have to clear storage.
Or uninstall each and every app and try to root.

Gosh. OK I believe you. I just don't want to shoot those red birds all over again from stage 1 or try to jump higher and higher to get a high score (if you know what I mean)
OK summarize this thing: I've to factory reset. All I can do is backup my SMS, apps (no data) to my SD with an app from the Market like appmonster. Right?

I'm now ROOTED.
This morning after I had breakfast, I opened the app 'appSaver' and clicked at uninstall tab and I found something that I believe it came from unrevoked because it had unrevoked's icon but the name was something starting with 'Z' I can't remember. So I uninstalled it and I think this will be the last time trying to root or I'll factory reset. And it worked.
I went flawlessly through the process and got my Desire rooted (with latest unrevoked).
Thanks everyone!

Precisly what happened to me, refused to root the 1st time until I read this and removed Zysploit, then ran it again and BINGO!!
Thanks all
Removing Zysploit did the trick !!!
Superb!!
Just ran a successfull root with unrevoked again as the first try failed.
Removing Zysploit and restarting unrevoked did the trick. YESS!!!!
Would have never found that one if not pointed to using this thread and was close to an unnecessary factory-reset... (phew!).
Bas.
Ive found with some desire devices after u uninstall htc sync and install hboot drivers..reinstall htc sync then run unrevoked3 and viola!! S-off

Move Zysploit app from SD to internal
This should work if you have SD card as your default install location (probably by earlier "adb shell pm setInstallLocation 2" command), so Zysploit is stored on your SD card, but deletion of this app doesn't work.
1) Move Zysploit from SD card to internal memory and try to root again.
2) If that fails, try to root once more.
3) If that fails too, delete Zysploit's data only (not the app) and try to root again.
(And if for some reason that fails too, try again step 2 or 3...)
Worked for me
I have an EVO on the Fresh 4.2.0.0, on the 2.3.3 android system, S-OFF, but I have error messages that says I'm not rooted. My superuser keeps force closing and I have no idea what to do. I also get the same error message.
Even for me the latest version of Unrevoked gave the error: your firmware is too new. I had to use Unrevoked v3.21 to accomplish the task.

[Q] Problems after flashing rooted Gingerbread.

I rooted my EVO and flashed radio 'EVO_Radio_2.15.00.05.02_WiMAX_27243_PRI_2.15_003.zip'
Then I flashed a rooted stock gingerbread/sense ROM 'supersonic_4.22.651.2_deodexed-signed.zip'
Problem 1: I reinstalled a bunch of my apps using Titanium Backup, but none of these apps are showing up in the Market.
Problem 2: I cannot sync Facebook for HTC Sense. Whenever I try to sign in, I keep getting the error "The service is currently unavailable. Do you want to try again?"
I have tried all sorts of things like uninstalling all Facebook for Android updates and even a supposed fix I found in other forums in which you edit your work information on your facebook profile. Nothing seems to work.
Can anyone help?

For the apps not showing up in your market it takes time and a reboot or two. The facebook thing I'm not sure about though, it wouldn't work right for me from day one so I haven't tried to use it in awhile.
Why do people need their apps to show up in the market if they already have them reinstalled with TB??

Thanks a lot guys. Today was my first experience with flashing. I can see why it's addicting.
I have a different problem after I flashed to the latest Gingerbread ROM, (on my eVO 4G btw). I flashed the latest ROM "gingerbread evo 1.2v", when that finished i flashed "EVO_Radio_2.15.00.05.02_WiMAX_27243_PRI_2.15_003" (was told it should fix any radio issues). then flashed "gapps 5-21-2011 with Voicemail.apk and Gtalk 1.3 with Voice and Video". My EVO restarted fine but now i cant make any calls or recieve any. In fact the status bar at the top isn't even there. When i press the phone icon i get a message saying "Application not installed on your phone". I must be missing a step or something. Any help would be great, thanks.

I read in another forum you sometimes need to re-flash the kernel after flashing new radios. You could try re-flashing the ROM now that you have the updated radios.
just tried flashing the rom after everything else and still same results. Any other suggestions?

I'm new to flashing ROMs personally, but I've also read people recommending to do a clean wipe 2 or 3 times and wipe the dalvik cache as many times before flashing again. I don't know what sort of issues they feel they are preventing by doing that so I don't know how plausible of a solution it is, but if you've got the time it wouldn't hurt to try.
Hopefully someone with more experience will chime in and you won't have to get your advice from a noob. Best of luck.

[Q] Nand Unlocking

Hey guys, im fairly new to the whole rooting and customizing of android scene, but i rooted my epic 4g using the oneclickmethod found here. Everything has gone fine and ive been able to flash multiple roms and try different things out, but today i downloaded the font changer app which then lead me to downloading the busy box app, however i got hung up on the installation of busy box because its saying im not nand unlocked. i assumed that took place with the whole rooting method, is there anything i can do to fix that at all?

I believe No nand unlock is needed, unless it goes through that when rooting. Make sure superuser is up to date. Even try to uninstall superuser and re install. I had the same problem before and am trying to remember what I did. I know I uninstalled superuser & re installed and uninstalled the APP i was trying to get to work and also re installed. So try that and see if it works

i dont mean to sound completely stupid, but how do i go about uninstalling/reinstalling superuser, do i just re-root the phone? Just asking before i try anything so i minimize my chance of bricking, thanks guys.
why dont you link us to the app not working?
If you have a ROM installed chances are that you already have busybox, there that most dev's include it on there ROMs.
I think that your trying to install Busybox in an area of your phone were its currently mounted as Read Only and not R/W. Double check the destination of the busybox installer (it will give you several options) and choose from there.

I think I lost root. How do I check and fix?

I've had a few apps tell me that I'm not rooted and my wifi tether no longer works (laptop doesnt even see the network. Tried changing and using another tehtering app and it saw it but only gave me limited connection. No internet.) but when I put SU into terminal emulator it returns #.Can someone please tell me how to check to make sure my root is still fully entact and functioning.
Try opening the superuser app.
Thanks for the fast response man. I really appreciate it.
I did and it didnt do anything so I cleared the permissions for it aaaaaaand think i made it worse. in super user I scrolled down to the wifi tether app and clicked it and hit the trash icon withouth thinking it through. IS there a way to manually add allowed apps. I also noticed SU never prompts me to allow apps anymore. Really holding up my ingress progress. lol

Is it really that simple? Won't there be some issues because I have a somewhat partial root already? I honestly don't rememeber my original method. I did it back in september and havent messed with it since. I never even ran any roms I'm still bone stock. Is there a method you would suggest? or possibly a link to it?
Yes, it really is that simple.
If root still isn't working, follow instructions in my signature. The su zip is also going to wipe out any previous superuser/supersu that is present on your phone.
Alternatively, if you already have CWM on your phone, you can use this http://db.tt/okfh9vzU to update it without tripping your counter.
Thanks to your guys' help I was able to reroot using the tool kit. Now my issue is that I did this to fix my wifi tethering issue and its not. What app would you guys suggest for tethering? I dont have it on a part of myplan but I know theres ways around it. Wifi tether and barnacle didnt work (wasnt seen by laptop or other s3) and fox fi was identified, let me connect but said it was limited, then eventually went to fully connected but still wouldnt load pages or anything. Do I need to load a custom rom to tether maybe? Thanks again guys.
