[Q] Changing IMEI on Samsung Nexus S legitimate reason, read on please. - Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking

I'm quite new to Odin but have spent the last 2 days researching it and its uses..
The problem I have, is that I flashed a ROM from over at Samsung Nexus S forum along with about another 25-100 people, the ROM in question re-wrote the IMEI numbers on all the phones to the same number, causing some networks in some country to deny access and in other countrys not causing any imidiate problems, but that could change anytime.
I've read that if I flash back to stock with Odin with a .pit file and Re-Partition ticked, that Odin will cause the phone to re-write all partitions and correct this.
NOW PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG. or point me in another direction if you know of one.
I've got the correct ROM for my region but cant find the Samsung Nexus S .pit file anyware.
Can someone tell me if I have to use a specific .pit file for the Samsung Nexus S and if so where I can download it from.
Many thanks in advance.

[Q] CM9 on Gio S5660M

So i have the Gio S5660M model, is it possible to put cyanogenmod 9 on it? do i have to take different steps from the S5660 model? If so, is there a posted guide on how to do so?
From my experience, just use the same steps.
Good luck!
Okay, well ive successfully installed it, few concerns. Uhm, where it should say my service provider, it says 302880(not sure what that means) Every few minutes, the screen will go black, or go black and then the brightness changes. I can hardly connect to the internet, sometimes my texts wont send, also wont sync my facebook which i noticed was an update in beta8. Not sure if i did something wrong, seeing as these problems shouldnt be occuring reading the changelog. any thoughts?
It sounds like you've flashed an Europe/Asia 5660 baseband as well. Undo that and you should be fine.
302880 is the MNC/MCC pair for your carrier. In this case, the Bell/Telus shared network. (Which I find somewhat odd; I would expect 302610 or 302220 for Bell/VMC/Solo or Telus/Koodo respectively.)
Good luck,
Darkshado
That sounds about right How would i go about undo ing that?
Through Odin, flash the amss image only. Or you could use dd in recovery as well.
The amss image of the S5660M rom? (sorry still new to this stuff)
How do i flash only the amss file ?
Dig some more through early Gio related threads. The explanations are there.
Hint: Tar archives can be edited. Remove what you don't want and flash with Odin.

Stock image for SC-04D (Docomo GNex)

Hi everyone!
I did something with my Docomo Gnex SC-04D durinf testing different roms and now I have my IMEI corrupted (Generic IMEI 0049**), now nothing seems to make it work, this once happened to my Galaxy S1 and I did flash with factory image and got it to work again. Anybody here knows how can I go back to the shipped rom from Docomo. Currently I am on 4.1.1.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards.
The only thing I can tell you is to search the forums for your specific device and see what is posted. You can type your exact device name in the search box and it will pull the forums specific to your device. I am sure someone has posted a stock ROM for your phone. I keep an unrooted stock ROM handy just in case i have to visit my providers store for anything.

Thanks for your reply...... I finally found a stock image of docomo ROM, (at least thats what the poster said, any idea how to confirm it, one positive sign was that the initial language was japanese ), but anyhow I am still getting the generic IMEI.... I do not have any nv_data.bin backup.... Any idea how can I fix it......
Regards.
I am not sure if this command is specific to Sprint or the Samsung device but you can give it a try. It initiates the Hands Free Activation which might resolve your problem. Open the dialer and type ##72786# and the process should begin. Phone will reboot a few times during the process so dont worry about that if it happens. If this does not work there might be other options that you can try.
Thanks for your reply... But this is not working.... Anybody else got an idea.....

[Q] Need help with modem

Hello all, I posted here several weeks ago about me trying several things on my SPH-L520 to get root back after Knox, and ultimately failing until I found s0be's CyanogenMod project for the SPH-L520. This saved my device and I have a fully working ROM again with root access and the likes, however back when I started this commotion I deleted the modem off of my phone. After tinkering with my brothers phone today and following some very helpful threads I have successfully recovered the modem.bin from his phone. Unfortunately, this is where my expertise ends, as I don't know how to build the constituent parts to include in a .zip to make this modem flashable. Do to the current state of development for the SPH-L520 I also haven't found any modem packages that would work for me on a CDMA network, as most (read: all) of the modem packages I have found are for international LTE variants, and even if my phone successfully accepted them, well you know why that probably wouldn't work. So I'm asking for help, one final push to make my phone a phone again and not a fancy PDA. If anyone knows how I can turn the modem bin i have into a flashable zip, I would greatly appreciate the help.
Thanks in advance, Hans.
Perhaps this thread can help you: http://www.rwilco12.com/forum/archive/index.php?thread-92.html
You need to flash through Odin twice for the modem to take effect.
You will probably be creating a .tar.md5 for modem.bin only

Thank you for linking to that thread.Unfortunately, Knox prevents Odin from successfully flashing the modem.tar I created. I'm going to try backing up my brothers modem with ZipMe and installing it on my phone that way.

What the hell is up with my phone? I just when checking around the firmware file with ES File Explorer, and right there inside is the modem files! But for some reason it's not working, the modem isn't being loaded or something because I still have no phone coverage... This is very strange.
Hans
EDIT: So I went into my connectivity settings and tried to add a APN. It wouldn't save to my phone. After that I tried changing my phone from NV to RUIM/SIM, but it wouldn't switch. I also tried to configure a network, but it said I needed to insert my SIM and restart the phone. Odd...

Possibly EFS corrupted? Please help!

Commented on a few lost IMEI related threads but most of them seem to be unattended. So thought of trying my luck in a new thread :good:
IMEI and Samsung serial number on my unlocked note2 i317 dont match with back panel and so unable to connect to any network(phone's history is unknown so cant do much apart from fixing the phone). Phone's still in original firmware(refer attached snapshot for complete details). Tried to load original stock ROM from ODIN(KIES_HOME_I317UCALJ2_I317ATTALJ2.tar.md5 ) but still EFS remains the same. I could locate the serial_no file(which contains new Serial number) from root explorer but unable to find nv_data files in IMEI folder(IMEI folder only contains mps_code.dat file.
Questions:
- Does this indicate an incorrect ROM flash that might have corrupted EFS?
- Are nv_data bin and bak files visible from root explorer(rooted, of course)?
- Original stock ROM was loaded from a single tar.md5 file(838mb) through ODIN. Though ODIN confirmed it as ''PASS" at the end, all the data on the phone remained intact and the process consumed around 8-10 minutes. Is this acceptable?
Looking forward to quick and promising responses.
TIA,
Chaitanya.
Folks, can someone kindly respond!

Im aware about that. I'm mainly trying to figure out the root cause. I'm not quite sure whether the issue is because of a wrong custom ROM or anything else, and hence require some guidance. Can you answer my questions please?
On a lighter note, changing IMEI is illegal but I guess retrieving is not :silly:
I've flashed many different ROMs on various phones and I've never had problems with the IMEI number changing.
Don't know about nv_data phone is still searched my Note II.
Don't know about the results of ODIN flash (sorry).

Having the software is illegal.
Guys,
Your advices are welcome but I would be glad if your responses actually address my problem rather than lecturing me on what is right or wrong. Sorry but,as a novice in troubleshooting android related problems and this being my first overseas phone, I thought senior members could share their experience in pointing to the actual problem with my phone.
In case it is the subject of this thread that is leading to this confusion, I apologize. I'm not really sure if it is an IMEI problem and that why mentioned all the details I thought are relevant to this issue. If it is still against the forum's rules to discuss my issue, please close this thread.
Changing you IMEI does not happen by accident. Flashing ROMs does not do it. Corrupting you EFS will not change you IMEI.
So from the sound of it you have a phone where someone in the past has deliberately changed the IMEI.
The IMEI that your phone currently has sound like it is not recognized by the network as being a valid IMEI.
Sorry but from you description you need to change your IMEI to a valid one.
As I have so patiently explained, you are asking people to give you advice on attempting an illegal action. That's why you aren't getting a solution. Check your xda user agreement - this discussion is breaking that.
Thanks guys. Please understand that I was not sure about the root cause. That's why posted the symptoms here and asked for confirmation. The phone physically looks so good that I couldn't believe that it was used before and got its IMEI and serial number tampered. Since I read some threads with users explaining IMEI related losses, I thought of sharing my issue as well. It was also getting tough to receiving help from India and xda is the best forum I heard about.
Appreciate your feedback. Please close my thread if it is strictly against your rules.
From the Moderator
The Other People who posted are correct software that's sole purpose is to modify the IMEI is not legal. So, it is not allowed in XDA to post such items....... Lic laws, etc.
It is possible to retrieve your original IMEI if you have a previous backup by restoring a nandroid (if you kept one) other than that, not sure how to do it.
That said
This is now .........CLOSED...........

NO PiT Partition

Hello guys im in need of some help I currently have the note 7 but have to go back to my note 4 due to the recall. The problem is that sprint sent an update to my note 4 that I guess it didnt like. I was only able to access downlaod mode. I attempted to flash the N910PVP assuming that was correct im at a lost any help would be greatly appreciated.
Whenever I press vol up power and home I get a message saying mmcread failure in smll print and then firmwre update encountered a issue please select recovery mode in kies but I cant kies wont recognize my phone.
The title of thread- no PIT partition- is that what happens when trying to flash full stock tar in Odin?
If so, The Sprint variant PIT can be found in the Sammobile forums. It's not acceptable to post competitive external forum links so you need to Google search it *Sammobile PIT Note 4* (without asterisks) will find the thread. There's a Note 4 thread with PIT by model number listed. Make sure you know the actual model of your phone; you can use Phone Info for Samsung in Google Play to verify that. Sprint model # is SM-N910P.
If you don't know how to partition with PIT, you should ask how to for Sprint variant in that forum. TBH, I don't know and I don't advise risky procedure steps when I'm not familiar with them. I've been fortunate not to experience this but update is one of the primary theories that causes this.
From what I've read, your problem may be terminal with eMMC failing you. IMO, it's unknown if eMMC is lacking durability, updates corrupt partitions and can't be overwritten or bad battery plays a role? But I'd recommend a fresh new battery- fully charged to be installed before attempting this recovery method.
If you get lasting resolution from this condition, please share. There's been a number of failures that later lead to permanent inability to boot to system, recovery or download mode. Some users didn't share relevant updates until asked about it, later.
