this needs to be in general not development section but there is a link

hate to bump this, but being that you need the driver to do a number of things, like rooting for instance, I think having that link in dev isn't a bad idea. just my opinion though. Not trying to shake the boat

What are u makin here?

An answer to a major problem we have

Okay so a lot of people have been flashing ROMS that are not for the Sprint galaxy s2 epic touch 4g( for example the European Galaxy s2 version of ICS) and end up getting a bricked phone that cant be read by the pc or odin. First of all READ B4 Flashing!!. secondly read the forum rules. Search before posting a new thread that someone already asked and lastly I am currently trying to find a way to fix this problem since my friend did the same thing and i have his phone at the moment. i will post an update if i find a solution unless someone beats me to it. Here is an example of what not to flash.
(do not flash u will have a fail EPIC)
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/galaxy-s2-ice-creams-sandwich-leaked-firmware-xxkp8/
Thats all i have to say.
install the drivers for the international version and then odin should be able to read your phone

haha funny. just an fyi my epic is working fine. currently running calks EL29 rom with venum team's ICS theme. Also am currently working on an all black/green theme. look forward to it haha
It says right on that page to do a about phone and check model #
Compatibility
This rom and the guide below is compatible only and only with Galaxy S2, model number i9100. It’s not compatible with any other device. Check your device’s model number in: Settings » About phone.
Uninstall all previous drivers then restart comp and install international drivers

Downgrade possible? Epic 4g

How do u downgrade from 2.3.5 to 2.2.1
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Download and flash ec05 with Odin.
Also, this should be in Q&A not Development.
...
I'm trying to find a way to root my sasung epic 2.3.5 with out a pc first... and its fuking fustrating me the hell out
Check the stickies for odin instructions, I think the wiki has links also.
Get odin on your pc, and the driver. Download a 2.2 build tar for odin.
Put the phone into download mode by holding 1 and hitting power from off, plug into usb and flash a 2.2 tar file with odin.
Bottom line is you're gonna need a PC boss.

Even better download CM7 and enjoy its goodness.
Edit: Sorry you'll need ClockworkMod to flash CM7 so you're back to needing a PC.

Mobile odin would probably work... get mobile odin from the market and download all the neccessary files and use it just as you would with odin on the pc... never tried it but mobile odin is supposed to work the same as pc odin..
Edit- looks like you need root... sorry... pc is the only way... find a friend with a pc.

For one, I don't know who you're referring to as "most of us." Most DO have a pc. And when he said "pc", I don't think he meant windows only. There is heimdall as well. Just because you don't see the point doesn't mean there's magically a different solution. Don't get snippy with someone trying to help.
Gingerbreak was the only root-from-phone option, and I know of noone having luck with it on our phones.
As mentioned, your best bet is a friend with a computer... which "all of us" have.
And again as mentioned, this is not a development thread. Putting "noob" in your name does not excuse it. If you've been here long enough to post in development, then you know what does and doesn't belong here.
Someone please move this thread to Q&A.

Im surrounded by 4 computers right now. And you dont have any? Or a friend with one?
Can we just all agree to flag and ignore non-developer questions in the development forum? Let's practice now!
I'd much rather read about a hot new ROM than someone who cannot read the forum rules or use search...or read in general.

I have tried different cables to no profit. I have one of my D710 rooted rocking CM11. But would love to be able to root the wife's phone to.

cant mount internal storage & odin doesn't recognize phone

i'm running aokp build 30. i'm wanting to change roms but i can't mount my phone to get a rom onto my internal storage. i'm not sure when it started to not show up to copy the files over. also odin doesn't recognize the phone either. it will charge when hooked up to the pc but i can't do anything with it. any ideas? plz help
it's because you posted in the dev section. if you try posting in the general or questions section, or try posting in the AOKP thread in the general section then your problem will probably get fixed.

Man, what a bunch of dicks. Yes, this is the wrong section to be asking this, but not everyone in the world is a bunch of elitist pricks just because they have 1,000 posts in a geek forum. This geek included. NOW, sir, are you getting a pop up that says "charging paused. voltage too high" or something like that? I had a similar problem because I plugged in to a faulty wall socket and it charged my USB port. If it's a hardware issue, you're going to have to take it to Sprint to ge swapped out.

Pretty sure nothing in that post indicated he did it by accident so.....your point of stupidity is moot....any who have you tried switching USB cords/Ports? Also try uninstalling and reinstalling drivers. is your internal storage showing up on your phone if so try downloading an el29 ROM such as caulk's stock then flash el26 stock cwm via mobile Odin (it costs a couple bux on the market) then flash the el29 then try using Odin. if you can't see the internal storage from your phone most likely have to take a trip to the sprint store

Click the box that pops up when windows tries to install the drivers (uninstall the samsung drivers to get it to pop up again) and make sure that windows is set to search windows update for drivers....I personally had this issue and no matter what set of drivers I manually installed I had issues because I had windows set to not check for drivers online...

Not a newb....not new to flashing...but really need help

I have flashed hundreds....and I am honestly telling you hundreds of phones and times and this is the first time I have gotten stuck...problem is this time it isn't my phone.
I had a co-worker ask me to help him with his SGS 2....took me a few to realize that his Sprint SGS 2 is actually the epic 4g or 4g touch....but anyway I made a back up through his recovery and then did a factory reset, cache wipe, system format, and davlik wipe before trying to flash AOKP 34 from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1565994
Well the flash failed with a status 7...tried to restore the backup but it says there are no files. If you try to boot it just sticks at the Samsung logo....I can get into Odin mode but no computers so far have recognized the device. The other problem is so how is CWM is gone and I am left with what I assume is the stock recovery....you know the whole signature required stuff.
What can I do to get this back to working again?

SPH-D710 = Epic 4G Touch
SPH-D700 = Epic 4G
Two different phones. Luckily, I own both.
What you should do:
1. Download Epic 4G Touch drivers
2. Use a non-stock cable
3. Download Odin for the touch
4. Download an Odin tar for the latest E4GT stock (EL29 I think)
5. Run Odin as admin
6 Reboot download mode
7. Plug phone in slowly to a back port on a desktop if possible
8. Put the Epic Touch pit in the pit section (NOT victory 8g)
9. Put EL29 in the PDA slot
10. Start Odin
