Hey guys,
So, I'm going to take a trip abroad for a little while. Thing is, I love my phone, and I don't really wanna live without it, and I'll need a cell phone while I'm in S. Korea. I was wondering if there's maybe a way to mod the firmware or something to get it to use Korean cell towers? Anybody know? I'd really appreciate it if I could find a way to get that to work...
Thanks,
Kangaji
you have a samsung phone and you are going to south korea? ask the guys at samsung to help you out while you are there lol. ok seriously, im not sure if they have cdma networks there or not. if they do you could figure out how to flash a modem or prl that would roam on the local network. if they only have gsm networks then you'd have to borrow or buy a gsm phone and put a local SIM card in it.

Call or stop by Sprint tell them you are going out of country and where they might give you a code to "unlock". At least that is how it is with ATT when I was with them. Not sure about Sprint wouldn't hurt to ask.
I think the only thing that might work if you know what you're doing is wimax but it probably isn't worth the effort. If you want to use a local service provider there you'll need a gsm phone. I recommend the iPhone 2g or 3g unlocked. You can find them on craigslist for $50 or $60.
if you have $100~200 to spend get an unlocked HTC HD2 and put gingerbread on the Nand.
It looks like I was wrong, CDMA coverage is available in Korea but that doesn't change my recommendation, look here at the rates you would have to pay to roam there.
Voice Pricing: $2.29/minute
Special Voice Pricing: $1.99/min. with plan
Data Pricing: $0.019/KB
Special Data Pricing: 1x Data: $0.002/KB
Text Pricing: Send: $0.50/recipient; Received: $0.05/msg
Alternatively you could use qpst to use the phone on SK Telecom but it would be tedious and probably not worth it.

Can an unlocked Dinc2 work on AT&T or T-Mobile? I don't want to face the same situation like with the Droid Pro or Droid 2 Global you know.
probably not. they might work as a phone, but not for data. i'm pretty sure the 3G bands are different.
Well you "can", but people found out the carrier (AT&Tmo) is responsible for blocking your phone. They want you to buy their phones
sent via rooted Droid Incredible 2
Apparently it can but only on the EDGE network
One guy on here even said he got it to work with TMobile, post #5: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1066953
I'm pretty sure I would be the guy that they reference to be able to get it to work all you have to do is insert your sim card and manually change the apns. I got it to work fine on Tmobile
Edit: every time you switch from Tmobile to Verizon or visa versa it will make you re sign in most every account on your phone

got Dinc2 for wife last week, may swap with her as I travel in areas with no Verizon, as well as foreign, so I can use GSM. Has anyone tried ATT prepaid SIM in Dinc2 yet? When I get chance, I'll try it, and use b0gman's suggestion.
Does anyone know if Dinc2 still works on At&t and Tmo with unlock code bought on eBay? A couple of sellers on eBay claims that it will work ONLY outside the US. I really want to make sure because I may be getting a new Dinc2 at great price.
Thanks.

It works inside the US if you unlock the sim. Couple of methods to get the unlock code: 1) Be a Verizon customer for 6 mos in good standing and call and request it from them 2) get a XTC clip and get it yourself 3) buy the code from some unlocking service... After that just go to your wireless settings and set it to GSM and input your APN settings and it should work just fine. Mine works on Tmo. It occasionally acts up and I have to reregister it, but most of the time it works just fine.

Yes. I worked with VZ to unlock my Dinc2 and used a prepaid SIM for a trip to Europe - UK, Italy, Greece, Turkey. All worked fine and way lower cost than VZ roaming. Same situation - my wife got the Dinc that I used to use.
GSM is why I upgraded from a Dinc to a Dinc 2.
Using pay as you go ATT for backup telephone paid $100 for the whole year($8 a month)
How to with no data too much $$$ anyway
S-Off
Install Recovery Root
Install Senseless Rom by Lefty
Get unlock code from Verizon
Put in Pay as you go ATT
Settings/Call/GSM
Get IMEI to register with pay as you go
enjoy!
Just an fyi...I got an unlock code from Verizon, activated with T-mobile Sim, entered the apn's, but I live in a roaming area so I don't have data until I get into T-Mobile coverage again, luckily I have wifi at my house. Also edge service is slower that 3g with Verizon....but not a lot,
Sent from my ADR6350 using XDA App
ATT works aswell just unlocked my Dinc2 and I can switch between verizon service and ATT at will. Edge only but it uses the 3g/4g (UMTS) frequencies of Tmobile, maybe a ROMed phone with the right kernel could get that working
Moved to Q&Q, if you are asking a question-post in the correct forum.

My wife and I use our phones more for the smart phone functions, and maybe use 300-500 minutes, 500 texts a month. The ting mobile plans would save us $1000 a year, the problem is that you have to buy phones straight from them.
According to the Ting support, some of their customers have gotten around this problem by purchasing one of their cheap phones, and then cloning the ESN to their better sprint / verizon phone. Ting encourages this, but I need to figure out how to do it.
Any ideas? Thanks!
I tried to post the link to the ting support staff statement, but apparently I haven't posted on XDA enough yet. So to find the forum post, just highlight this (including the quotation marks) and google it:
"Is it possible to activate ex-Verizon or ex-Sprint smartphone on Ting?"
This is possible I'm sorry I don't have a how to but I'm here to give you some encouragement. This has been done on numerous different wireless carriers so if you figure out how it would be as simple as 1,2,3...
I think flashing to alternative carriers doesn't differ so if you look at the how to flash boost mobile or cricket here on xda and ask them ill link them to ya

Really man... you haven't seen the threads on how to do this for boost, virgin, and cricket? Those threads have been here since before I was a member... you're just not allowed to go into significant detail about it... as long as nobody explains how to do the esn switch you all should be alright... (btw there are TONS of guides on how to do this.... its basically the same for every carrier with minor changes here and there...) not hard to do and takes less than 20 minutes once you get it down... also if you would rather metro pcs or have one in your area most of their stores have a rep there that will do this for you... just don't pay them until they get data working!!!!

Should have no problem flashing the phone as long as both phones are cdma phones. Might be difficult getting mobile data and MMS working though. I am running an epic on virgin mobile and everything works except mms. I have gotten mms to send just can't receive it. As for the legality I made sure to zero out the esn on my old phone so both cant be active at same time. Might be a good idea to avoid the risk of being banned.

Entirely Possible
Yes, a Sprint phone on Ting would be easy to do. In your case, the Epic 4G phone by Samsung is incredibly easy to change the ESN on. All Samsung phones are really... especially on Verizon as their SPC codes are 000000. The standard Samsung SPC code unlock password though should work on Sprint Samsung phones. Google around for it.
The problem with all of this though is that you'll have to purchase a Ting phone in the first place. Now maybe you could purchase the feature phone that they have available and use that ESN, but using hundreds of megabytes on an ESN that is supposed to be a feature phone might be suspect in Ting's system. I'm not sure they would care though, but you would stick out like a sore thumb. Buying one of their smart phones seems to defeat the purpose of doing this as you would be left with a unusable smartphone that is probably better than your Epic 4G in the first place. You could take your Epic 4G to Boost. I admit, Ting rocks especially for more than one phone on a plan, but Boost isn't bad.
Don't go to Virgin Mobile. It is the same network as Sprint and Boost, but getting the phone on VM is difficult. You need the A-logins and Passwords that are difficult to get if you don't know what you are doing. Also, VM seems to more actively police their network for this type of use and if you don't have everything exactly copied from the donor phone you'll be noticed. No one really is sure what all needs to be copied over and after about 3 months or so the phone is usually noticed. It is kinda a mystery. I noticed that a person above said he has a phone on VM from another carrier. Might want to inquire with him though he said that he had several phones so maybe the little use of the VM phone is enabling him to skirt under the radar.
For the person looking for AT&T on Verizon... as already mentioned... not possible. I would look into using Red Pocket for AT&T's MVNO. You could also go to Simple Mobile, but would not get 3G data.
Let me know of anyone else has any questions...

Virgin Mobile isn't hard to do.. I wrote up the guide for us, the only ones having issues are the few who don't use the phone written on the guide, and many who do not bother reading the guide. I have heard boost is actually more tedious.

Hi guys, need some help.
If I switch carrier then phone automatically get bad Sprint ESN, right? If so, thats ok, because I dont want to use Sprint.
I've got Sprint L710 but I never used CDMA before, so little bit confused with how to get rid of that Sprint and make it work with Boost even w/o 4g.. perhaps 2g or 3g if possible. Or Virgin, doesn't really matter, the most important is prepaid plan w/o contract.
I'll make a root and even if then I install custom ROM then still will be using Sprint? Or after flashing custom ROM I can go to Boost and ask them to flash their codes?
Nobody else will help me, I hope for your understanding.
As far as I know. You won't get bad esn as long as you don't have any pending balances pending.
And if you pay the early termination fee.
But I'm not sure. As far as the s3 on another net work then it would have to be flashed with whatever company your gonna use it with.
But your probably better off just selling it on craugslist or eBay and buying an unlocked international version.

When I switched from ATT contract to TMobile prepaid I just unlocked phone, pulled out ATT sim card and go forward with TMobile. I didnt make any notifications to ATT, TMobile just transferred my number in few secs.
I mean how could I make same on CDMA? Could by example Cricket take my phone to their network? Is it possible to delete all related to Sprint from my phone, make it clean as from factory? And then come to Cricket or another CDMA carrier? In that case if I terminate Sprint contract without any notification I think ESN would be bad.

Well if your gonna flash the phone to another carrier like cricket. Then bad esn or clean esn don't matter. Just go into a cricket store and tell them you need to flash your phone and they'll put other on their network.

And am I be able to get at least their Cricket's 3G?
Or for that I need to go through special procedure with donors?

they should have a cricket store where they flash phones. Idk how the procedure is done, or how it affects the phones. But there might be something screwy with MMS, but you can always ask before you do it. and there might be a fix for that sort of stuff here at XDA
Cricket said that they flash only their phones and I cant keep my existing.
BTW finally we've switched it to Verizon prepaid

well if your S3 is just a brick there you can always sell it.

But even good, cause because of I that I got Verizon.
hello all..
i searched as much as i could around the forums and google before positing this question.
i want to change providers. from verizon to whatever possible (tmobile or straight talk even) because verizon says i owe them $700. i havent had verizon service since then (6+ months) because i refuse to pay that. I am just using hotspots and im VERY tired of trying to find a mcdonalds or free wifi.
so im wondering if i can switch providers with a CDMA? Everywhere i looked (google) it says its not possible with CDMA only GSM.
Please help me! I apologize if i didnt find the original post similar to mine...
thanks
You're correct. You can NOT use your CDMA Nexus other than Verizon. In other words, you have to find new phone in order to use on different carrier.
Your phone will only work on verizons network. You will need a new phone one way or another.

since i cant use this phone (verizon wants $1100) is there a good trustworthy place online to sell this phone?
BuyMyTronics(DOTCOM) says they would give me a little over 100 for this phone. im desperate but not desperate enough to put my personal name and address in their form without the website being https:// or ssl...
are there any LEGIT companies out there that i can trust?
haha, good luck with that. Past due bill with verizon means your phone is blacklisted. Basically you'll be selling a pretty much useless (Bad ESN/IMEI) phone that nobody else can use either.

Did AT&T tell you that it's blacklisted, or is that just your assumption? Just trying to make sure it isn't something else like a missing IMEI code.
And if it was stolen, I'd get rid of it if it were me. You can get in a lot of trouble for receiving stolen goods.
At any rate, not here to preach. You can unlock it for free using this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34661189#post3466118
That said, if you use a T-Mobile sim card you'll probably only get Edge network, which is slower than dial-up (not really, but it is agonizingly slow). In some areas of the country T-Mobile has rolled out newer networks and you might get H+. Worth a shot at any rate. Good luck. :good:

Chances are, it could be blacklisted on all GSM networks, not just AT&T. All a person would need to do is call up respective customer care, and get it disabled. If he got it for one, I don't think he'd be stupid enough not to get it disabled on other MAJOR networks.
When you got it, didn't you put in your cell sim and check if it was working or not?
