I have a strange issue and I am trying to recall if it happened well on srf 1.0 but I can't recall I think it did. When I plug my phone into charge during the day sometimes and i stress sometimes the charging icon starts to blink red and starts to discharge this happens with none standard usb cable into different computers or with the standard plug wall charger. I am on srf 1.1.1 with extended battery. I have fully charged ran battery calibrate apk and fully drained. I am thinking my extended battery might be defective but not sure. But a reboot fixes the issue for at least one attempt at charging. Any ideas?
I was using a HTC usb cable and I was loosing more battery it would never go above 75%. Changed cables and now it works better, but I did see the discharge icon also...

this happens with 2 different cables. I am going to test with stock battery to see if it happens. think it might be a bad extended battery or something with the rom that doesn't like the extended battery. Not sure that last part makes an sense but that is what it almost seems like.
When I got to work today, I grabbed another Epic from our device locker and that battery went to 100% and then I calib'd it and it seems to be working fine.. weird
Ihave charging probems with cheap thin cable chargers. But I got a usb cable for a droid x and it works better then any charger or cable I've tried

So far unable to duplicate with stock battery. This should be fun trying to get a replacement extended battery. Or could this be a ROM issue with the extended battery? I know the only way to test is go back to stock to see. Now with that said I am will to test next week but I do have a question. I have a nanbackup when I reconvert to ext4 with cwm 3.0.2.5 I should be able to recover that right? Me switching back and forth from ext to rfs and changing cwm version shouldn't do anything?
I think I found out what part of my problem is. I think most of it had to do with EE03 modem and/or twilight kernel. I restored from my nanbackup installed Vision kernal and flashed back to ec05 and have had no problems. The nanbackup was created after the fresh install of SRF 1.1.1 w/twilight so I went back to my stock setup with no tweaks. Also found out about the DRM and SNS stuff draining battery life so I froze those in Titanium all is good now!

My evo was getting low on battery and I plugged it in. I went to check on it a half hour later and it wasn't charging. I plugged it into my computer and used multiple charging cords and it still won't charge. The battery is dead now. What can I do now? I am rooted and am scared to take it in.

Just to be clear, did the phone die completely before you tried to start charging it? Or did you plug it in before it actually died, and then it still wouldn't charge, and died anyways?
If it died completely on it's own, and then you plugged it in, and it won't take a charge (no led charging light), then your battery is most likely toasted. You can try leaving it plugged into the wall charger for some time, and see if it starts charging again, but it may not. Lithium Ion batteries don't like to be drained completely. They can get so low, to a point that the battery won't recieve a charge. It has something to do with the software in the phone not letting it. I've heard that if you have an actual wall charger, to put the battery directly on that, and it may charge up again. Otherwise, you need a new battery, most likely.
If you plugged it in before it actually died, and it still wouldn't recieve a charge, I would have to take a guess and say that there might be a problem with your usb/charge port (because you did say you tried other cables already, right?, so that should rule out a bad cable)
If you have any other batteries, try one. Or if you do happen to have a direct wall charger, put the battery on that and try to charge it up.
What rom/kernel combo are you currently on?
The battery was at about 24% when I plugged it in. I plugged in and the led didn't come on. It's been on the charger for about an hr. I tried a bb charger no luck and also plugged it into my computer.
I was running CM7 RC4 with savage zen 1.0.1 cfs havs sbc at the time. I got scared that i would have to take it in when the battery was getting low so I tried to flash the pcj136 zip on my sd card but it was corrupted (good time to find outit was corrupted) but after that I flashed back to my stock rooted backup. That's what it's on now. The led still didn't come on.

Okay, so you were able to successfully get the stock rooted rom flashed before the battery died? So you were running the stock rooted rom before it actually died? Still no charging on the stock rooted rom eh? Personally, i would find a way to get your battery charged up. Either take it to a sprint store, or if you have any friends that have a hero or an evo, pop it in there and charge it up. Once you're charged up, you can then have some time to unroot and turn S on if you need to, so you can take it in. It would also allow you test a couple more things, and be sure that it's not software related. (sounds like a bad usb/charge port to me) There isn't a lot you can do without being able to turn it on.
And you meant to say you tried to flash a PC36IMG, right?
Haha yes PC36IMG
Yes now I am running the stock rooted rom. As soon as I flashed the stock rooted rom it died.
My friend has a evo so I think I'll try to use my friends battery to see if it will work. To me it seems like a bad USB port but I'll try the battery. Hopefully it will work.

Yea, as I stated above, I also believe it's a bad usb/charging port. I just think you should use your friends evo to charge your battery, so you can then put your fully charged battery back in your phone, and unroot it if you need to take it in. Just beware, that if it is a bad usb/charge port, I have heard of Sprint giving people a tough time with repairing it (its a known problem). Sprint claims it to be cosmetic damage or physical damage or some bs like that.
I thought this issue would be fixed already. I got my evo in Dec and it's hw 0004.Cosmetic damage? Wow. How is it cosmetic damage when you can't use your phone? If I do have to take it in will sprint fix my evo? I have insurance through best buy.

I've seen more on the subject kicking around here, but the dang search is currently down. I got lucky by finding that one on page 7!
This happened to me as well. I was using my EVO (rooted to Warm ROM) as a GPS today driving down to NYC. The battery wasn't completely dead yet and I was using a car charger to the phone. All of a sudden, the phone just reset! I had no clue why. I used my brother's EVO for GPS and after a little while, his started to reset as well! After I got home my phone wouldn't charge with the wall charger USB so I used my cradle charger to directly charge the battery, which worked and now my phone is on and the usb wall charger works again.

So, I'm not that new to rooting. I've been playing around with SRF for quite some time, as well as playing around with a few other phones. I decided to update to GB as the update had rolled out this morning. I updated successfully & rooted it, even added ACS ICS v4.
Now, here is where I'm having this battery issue. Before I updated to GB, I had no problem using the wall charger. Now that I've updated, the wall charger will not work. I've tried rebooting my phone, reflashing the ROM, toggling debugging mode, all of it. My USB is working, but nothing from the wall charger. I know for a fact this charger is good (it's not the stock one, it's a different samsung one) as it works on my boyfriends epic (we didn't play around with his yet).
Is anyone else having this issue? or am I the only one? What are some suggestions to fix this?
Thanks~

Use the stock charger, it seems code in the GB update enforced this. Just two days ago, my cousin updated to GB and reported this very issue, but she was using a Nexus S 4G wall charger, she had no issues charging it when I handed her my Stock Epic Charger.
P.S. the nexus s 4g charger charged her phone regardless, just no red led notification with only the battery icon in the status bar as proof of charging. However, I did not check the specs of the Nexus S charger, give a phone a charger with too much, or too little voltage, and you could eventually mess it up.

You could try looking up one on Amazon, prices vary for the stock charger, it doesn't have to be the same cable, just that wall charger bit would of been valuable to hang on to.

I've noticed this, too. My phone would physically charge, but aside from that, there was no physical notification that it was plugged in. Even the battery usage would show the battery life increasing, but not register it as "Charging"
Has anyone noticed this with car chargers? I have a Sprint charger (via Amazon), and things still work fine with that. Also things work fine with the Blackberry USB cord when plugged into a computer (Linux, PC, Mac). But when that goes into a generic AC to USB converter, no dice.
Well actually, when I had it plugged in via wall charger it said it showed the little notification charging, but the battery was draining and would not hold a charge.
I found a samsung charger (not the stock one) and tried that. It worked perfect, LED came on and it actually held a charge.
The only thing now is that it seems my battery will not stop draining. It has been off the charger for 15 minutes, and batter is already down 10% with LIGHT use (I checked my VM, that's it).
I ordered the 1800mAh OEM battery yesterday so I'm hoping to swap this out and see if that may be the problem. Any other suggestions as to how I could fix that if this isn't the issue? ;( le sigh.

Once you get that new battery, charge it with the phone off, when 100% charged, calibrate the battery.

I'll go ahead and give that a try.
Thanks!
So then,
Recently I have had a lot of issues with my nexus. There has been on going issues related to the battery in terms of it saying its charging when its not, and not charging when it is.
yesterday the phone totally died, which wasn't ideal so I contacted Samsung and they said they need to send it away.
Now luckily I do have a extended battery for my phone which I have managed to get it working off and get it to charge which points at the old battery dying and needing to be replaced.
Issues which remain is the phone does not say its charging yet the battery is being charged. Is it possible to delete the System battery apk and re-install it and does anyone have a link to the apk. Or is it possible to re-calibrate battery settings somehow?
The phone also will not connect to the computer via any cable.
It seems as though the phone is being charged and the power is going through the phone, but there is no recognition in the USB bay of any kind, weather connected to a charger or a computer.
things done so far to solve issue:
Full wipe
Reverted to stock
Reverted back to different ROM's
Changed Kernel's
Ordered a New standard battery
Ordered a battery charger (not phone charging dock)
Wiggled the usb , changed usb cable's and chargers.
Fixed permissions
Delete battery stats
Full delvik cache wipe
This is becoming to be a serious problem with a otherwise amazing phone.
Any help would be fantastic.
Thanks,
J
I'm also having the same issue for a week or so. The phone says it's charging but it's not connected to any charger.
Lots of people are reporting the same problem. It's a hardware issue. You need to change the usb charging assembly.

Thanks for the heads up man , might give the USB port a little clean. Pain in the ass though pretty poor from Sammy and Google on that one :/

Has anyone had this problem before?
My phone says its charging but it discharges (sometimes stays at the same level and sometimes charges VERY slowly). I let it sit on the charger without playing with it and sometimes I have to let it charge while turned off. I have tried many different chargers/usb cables but cannot find a solution.
I have tried wiping the phone twice + I have used an ipad charging block some of the time (higher voltage and amperage I believe).
It works for a little while after a wipe but the problem always comes back. I am running the latest Task 650 rom with stock kernel...
Any suggestions? My last resort is to return it to stock and try getting a warranty exchange.
I have this problem charging in the car on a really long cheap USB cable. Are you using the stock battery and stock charger / cable?

Have you tried using BetterBatteryStats to see what's draining your battery so much? If nothing seems odd or over the top. It could be a hardware problem (battery, usb, etc).

I have tried the stock usb cable and charging block, I also utilize the stock battery.

Try updating, if it doesn't work, try stock. if it still doesn't work, send it for warranty.
Try another cable or reverting back to stock. I've got 4 different Galaxy S variant phones and some of the provided cords have just given up the ghost and wouldn't charge quickly anymore. Some will work with another another and some won't. Revert to out of the box stock and see if that helps.
Mine was doing similar deal. I did the *#*#4636#*#* went to battery and found out when I plugged in stock charger and cable it said usb charging instead of ac charging. When I plugged in htc charger went right to ac charging. So I tried using a different cable with stock charger and it went ac charger and seam to fix the problem. In fact if I plugged in just the stock cable not hooked to computer or charger it would switch to usb when there was no power going thru it. Hope this helps.

About a week ago, I flashed to the Beanstalk 4.2 JB rom. And found that while running the rom, I began suffering from real odd battery patterns.
I had two wall chargers and a USB cable to my computer, when I connected my phone to them, it would say that it was charging, but instead, it'd just drain the battery.
Using my 4.1 AOKP rom simply a few days ago, I never had a problem as weird as this. All my chargers worked on my phone, including the USB.
The only time I could charge my battery properly was to have to phone completely off.
So after a week, a few days ago, I flashed the SlimBean Rom in hopes I'd get a different experience from 4.2.
Now things got really weird. The phone would start repeatedly flashing that it was charging and not charging. Battery would still drain, what's worse is after calibration yesterday, I tried charging my phone while it was off. The battery during this charging process, said it was full. So I turned on the phone, and found my battery at 15%.
But this weird behavior isn't all the time, just now I plugged in my phone while on, using my wall charger. And right now it's acting fine. The question is, when and why is it doing something weird?
I'm not sure why this is happening. Everything was fine until 4.2 a week and a half ago, now my phone is acting like there isn't a consistent way to charge the battery, it's pretty much randomnly taking power and using it while it's connected to a charger.
Does anybody have similar problems with their phone after a flashing? Again, everything was fine when I was using 4.1.

Time for a new battery. Take it out and see if it spins. If it does, your battery is bad. If not, you may have a bad flash or rogue app; try clean flashing your 4.2 ROM and manually installing apps from the play store.

What do you mean by "see if it spins?" Do you mean spin it flat on a table?
Also, I have factory reset and flashed both roms each time. Is that a clean flashing?

yes, spin it on a flat surface. if it spins like a top, its bad. if it doesn't spin, its probably okay.
clean flash (for AOSP) means:
Reboot to recovery
Make a nandroid
Wipe data/Factory Reset
Wipe /cache
Advanced > Wipe /dalvik-cache
Flash ROM
Flash Gapps
Reboot.
I have a new related question:
Is it possible that flashing a rom could damage hardware? Like the battery or something else?
The battery sometimes will not recharge EVEN when the phone's turned off ever since I switched to 4.2. It's become a phone that is insanely unpredictable.
Battery doesn't spin, it's still fairly heavy. I'm a little worried something darker might be effecting my phone now.

Not a ROM issue. I recommend using triangle away to reset the binary counter, then Odin back to stock unrooted fl24 or gb27 and seek warranty replacement.

I am having the same problem with my phone. im running ReVolt JB 4.2.2 6/2/13 ...same weird flashing when connected to charger, battery only charges when its turned all the way off and plugged into a wall charger. Battery is still good doesn't spin...for me its only this rom that gives me trouble.
Everyone's has the 3.0 kernel on 4.2.2 or the 3.4 kernel on 4.2.2?
I've never had any issues on Slim Bean, Liquid Smooth, ChaOS, SuperNexus, Carbon Rom, CM10 WFTN.
On top of that, make sure you're using the original charger and usb cable too because using different types of cables
with the same type of usb port can also be the issue. ( Short, Long, MTP or PTP type for PC's only etc )
Also is your FAST CHARGE ( If supported by the kernel ) on?
Or is your usb cable / plug not connected all the way on both charger and wall port.
It could be a ton of different issues.
My friends wife had a problem when she was using 4.2.2 AOKP.
Turns out her original PLUG was the problem and she was using her husbands Note II plug just to charge the battery but
she still is using the original E4GT usb cable.

The cable shouldn't make a difference in how long it takes to charge unless it's an inferior cable. Note 2 and Epic 4G Touch are both Samsung cables, I can't imagine that they would make the Note's cable inferior to ours
Also, search through these forums and you'll find that the recommended cable for this device, actually is a Blackberry cable.
I had to get a replacement phone because my charging port was fried luckily I had insurance so the replacement phone was free. Initially my charging port was lose and the tech support at sprint tightened it up but it was all down hill from there...just an update to my previous post .... It was a hardware issue not a ROM issue.
