What was wrong with bonsai masterkee unlock? Sorry if threads on this topic are against the rules (i thought only links were), so I am sorry if I broke the rules, if so a mod may delete this thread but I just want an explaination.
Did the news get around about a guy named butcher pete?
Idk but why go to another method when one-click is simple and fast

Currently the advantage of using their tool for me anyways is that I think their Recovery is > cwm 3.0.2.5 . In future updates this tool will install ROM's and will work on multiple devices is what i heard.

This probably best as a discussion in the General thread. It seems a little more lenient as long as links to a site that is free and only requires a registration to download is forbidden unless you are Android Central which also requires registration to download. But that must be different ??????
links to android central downloads are against the rules also... but discussing bonsai stuff is not. there are a few threads here. but announcing their releases here will usually get locked, since you cant link them, and they dont support them here. I havent used the unlocks yet, i downloaded them to take a look but havent had a chance, but when gingerbread comes they will have to make changes anyway.

Thanks Chris for the explanation. I guess the Android Central links are not as controversial as the Bonsai so don't get the same publicity when they are removed. Thanks again.
No Bonsai links Allowed

I know that XDA does not allow bonsaigeek links due to the fact that Bonsai requires you to register at their site to get thair code. XDA views this as against the liberties granted through the GPL license.
I do not think they allow Bonsai announcements either.
The latest posters who were shutdown were flamers, extremely critical of XDA and their policies. If you do not like XDA policies, do not sign up & post.
They should not sign up, accept the policies, and then flame XDA, basically asking for a ban.
That's my opinion anyway, FWIW.

It may take time after reaching the 5-8 post limit for it to allow you access, this is because the process runs in the background.
And when you have enough posts, you can edit your Signature in the UserCP (on the left hand side called "Edit Signature").
Or just click here : Edit Signature

People / Bots were Posting generic messages, like "Thanks this is great" or in some cases, actual responses based on words in a thread. The post it's self was not spam (although pretty pointless), but the users signature would contain 3-4 links to an online company of varying levels of trustworthiness.
We used to find one or two of these bad boys a day. Because they didn't create new threads, nor did they make it obvious to the casual observer, they were getting away with it.
I have not seen one of the so called "signature spammers" since the rules were put in place.
Dave
I had the same question...this is an excellent way to manage spam users. Good job, looking forward to delving more into this forum and getting a signature!
I was a bit upset at not being able to have a signature. Thanks Daveshaw for explaining. Its indeed a great way to stop spammers.

But you could post it in General, and then help a few people out while you were there, in Q&A, if your device has one. Don't bother with useless posts, they will be deleted and you'll never get to 10.

Well, you might be right but its not that easy. You know I have experience in those stuff in the development forum, but I have no way to make posts there.
I dont wanna be a sort of spammer by posting stupid stuff to get all the 10 posts.
But this 10 post rule leaves no other way to accomplish...
To find a topic that I can make a useful post takes a lot of time.
If you can't spend the time to make ten legitimate posts before posting in the dev fora, then you don't deserve to post there. This is a developer forum, not a support website.

I didn't know the thread got closed but I think its appropriate to do so.
Leaving past drama in the past I still think its wrong for someone to post a link/thread on XDA that intends to direct traffic away from XDA, requiring registration on another website in order to enjoy the author's work. If DD wanted to be part of the XDA community then he should post and, to some degree, support his work ON XDA.
I don't care wether or not his thread was shut down. I just thought the whole thing was a little shady - some guy comes out of nowhere to offer this amazing thing that this other guy has, but you can only have it if you come into the alley with him because he can't show you in the light.

It was shut down the first time because it linked another sign up site to download it. Second time because it included warez. A donation link can be found HERE" outside of his/her signature this caused the thread to get locked and it's not even the OP's rom??? Not sure I understand how #8 even applies to the thread since the rom wasn't the OP's and he was trying to stay in compliance with rule #12
12. Using the work of others.
If you are developing something that is based on the work of another Member, you MUST first seek their permission, and you must give credit to the member whose work you used. If a dispute occurs about who developed / created a piece of work, first try to settle the matter by private message and NOT in open forum. If this fails then you may contact a moderator with clear evidence that the work was created by you.

I mean com'on it's not like the OP hacked a phone (which is illegal), stole the the UI off the phone aka: "porting" (like HTC Sense, Acer Liquid, or etc which ARE NOT open source therefore "illegal" as they are covered by copyright as stated in you HTC Sense software menu>settings>about phone>legal information>HTC legal>

Which means nearly EVERY developer here is direct violation of rule #6 ("Do not post warez") of the site unless someone has posted a copy of the authorization from HTC to redistribute their software. Yes, I use custom ported roms like most of xda, and I fully support advancing development of the mobile platform. My lack of understanding is not over this, but over nitpicking "some" developers and using rules when it fits ones specific agenda. Whatever agenda that might be. I am not here to start a war with admins or mods, but to get a more clear understanding of intent. It seems not only unclear to myself but to others as well. Thanks John

XDA is going downhill. 4-5 non-development related threads, at least, each time I load up to see what development has been taking place while I was away.
Might as well just merge all the sub-forums, XDA.

Personally I think the development forum should be restricted from "New Threads" and have a sub-forum of "Awaiting Approval" where someone can create a NEW thread, if it's development material, a Mod can move it there. There obviously would be the select few who are "developers" and will be allowed to create new threads in the development forum itself...
Just my dream.
Agreed. Making the development section moderated would be wonderful. In fact, I wouldn't even bother moving the unrelated threads into the proper forum. Delete them altogether and let the user figure out why their thread was nuked.
Some of the gibberish I read on here really makes me cringe at the level of literacy. Some examples include no punctuation, run-on sentences, even spelling errors in the subject, or useless subjects such as "Help". Surely these people must be older than 10 yrs old to be able to afford such a device, but show little effort in their request for help.
is it really hard to scroll pass this thread ?
not sure why ppl get so upset when someone posts in the wrong section...simply move on to the next thread
-access control allows who connects to your hotspot, just click to enable the devices u want to have access to the interwebs...
hope that helps.
I think they should open a PISS AND MOAN ABOUT POSTING IN THE WRONG SECTION thread. That's just me though

I don't really care. BUT I think new users should be quized on the rules before being able to post threads
A drop of Chuck Norris's semen was placed on Android OS. We now have CyanogenMod.
Just in case you didn't know when you enable access control if you don't click on the box of the person who is trying to access your connection it will still show the person that they are connected they just won't have any internet connection. So if you testing it and wondering why your still able to connect on another device just try to go on the internet and you will see that you have been blocked. Ps to all the people getting on the guys case for posting in the wrong section after the first person pointed it out there is no need to elaborate. If your not posting to be helpful then you shouldn't post at all. Just my opinion.

But no seriously, I have a 1200 pixel tall monitor and the android dev forum is half of my screen. It just looks sloppy. Not that it really matters but it just makes it hard to sift through the data. Most other device forums have 1 or 2 stickies. We have 10. 4 of which could be compacted into 1 "read first" post, 3 of them are how to root, and 3 of them are about modems (possibly out of date anyway?).

lmao yeah dev pretty loud with duplicate EK02 how to this that , unroot tip 24 etc many threads on same topic which I'm sure gets a little confusing for newbies.
Only things needed in sticky status is sfhub automatic root & Jerdog How to flash tar with odin listing EG30 , EG31 , EK02 tars.
Operation Iron Fist , XDA development rules stay intact of course.
A major + would be a qbking sticky that had all rom reviews in one place.
Its simple stuff not confusing getting the job done.
From there merge 4 of the same topics together leaving kernels and rom threads in tact.
End result is clean organized forum
ok - you're going to complain and clutter the thread - one of you can be part of the solution.
Which of you wants to take a sticky to create:
Current Root Processes
Return to Stock Options
Kernels/Mods/ROMs/Recoveries
The key is you will have to maintain it. But if you can complain and clutter, then I think you're capable of compiling info and updating.
Otherwise......... i think you get the idea.
Thanks for the reply. I'll look at writing a few threads up when I get home from the gym.
Is it preferred that I link back to the original writer for some of these things? Copy pasta seems too much like stealing other peoples work to me.

create a post that has links to the original information - is just an informational sticky - title it so that it's easy to understand - maintain it - etc.

excellent idea!
Do you guys think we should have root guides in the dev forum, or the general forum? As of now we have them in both.
If any of you been a while, you might remember the sticky rollup. In that that you have a ton of links to the threads and the single sticky itself is just used for suggestions for other links. Once those links have been added, the posts deleted to clean the thread.

Yeah that's the idea of a rollup. One thread to encompass them all. Then you break up the op like you did for grouping like thread links together. Maybe have a section for useful mods. I haven't checked it in a few months, but if you look at the HTC fuze rollup, you might get some ideas. Conantroutman made one for the captivate when he took midship of those forums. That one had everything bundled together. Some devices wikis are pretty nice, too. Maybe get an idea from that. The captivate is pretty good. Vibrant and epic are ones to get an idea of what not to do.

If any moving needs to happen I will do that.
Also any of the current procedural stickies will need to stay themselves and I will look at maybe trimming them.
Later on tonight I will also look at what you have categorized and offer my opinions.

Yeah it's all for the most part in the same place. I just moved that one dev rule thread over to the test post for the dev forum instead of the general forum's
As it stands it's all just links to the current stickies in categories.

I've begun an answer to the problem.

Feel free to add/update/edit anything you see fit.
I have started simple tables for the ROMs page so far.
Hi
I see some nice work has been done to reduce spam posts
I just wanted to put an idea out there to try and reduce spam within a post.
How about having a question repository in the thread when every question asked is collected and put in order for the dev to answer. The q and a's are then posted just as a sticky at the top of the thread.
I know the basic problem is people refusing to read but if it is easily available and right there it might reduce most of it.
Anymore ideas?
Huh?
Im sorry i dont quite get what u meant.

ad.fly is a pay per click link service which is not allowed (as are all pay per click services) here on XDA.
It's in the forum rules.
Which you should have read when you registered
@ The OP.
The prevention of unessential posts is something that are always looking at and while your idea is a nice one, this would require someone to keep on top of all the questions and compile them into order etc etc...
Unless someone volunteers to do that in a particular thread, which does happen occasionaly, this isnt possible.
Rest assured though, the great thinkers of XDA are always looking for new ways to cut down on the spam postings
I have been an admin/owner and also a moderator on my own and other forums and I'm afraid that spammers and their posts will always be a problem no matter what systems are in place. The only sure fire way to stop them is by using our eyes and sadly time to find the spam posts and report them (there is a thread for this ) so that they can be removed.
