I saw on engadget site that the contact picture is shown full screen, see the post below:
http://engadget.com/2011/05/19/sony-ericsson-xperia-play-arc-getting-android-2-3-4-update-next
but even after the update to 2.3.3 my contacts picture it is still small, see below:
http://mugur-ionescu.ro/sony-ericsson-xperia-arc-with-android-2-3-3.html
any ideea how to fix it?
Thanks,
Mugur
I have the same problem
is there something we can do?
It's in "facebook photo" part in contact.
Do you try this?
(your second link doesn't work)

i tried it and it's not seems to be the problem
As far as I know from my neo (not arc)....
1. Picture from facebook contact will be small
2. Picture selected from Gallery or by photo will be Bigger almost half of the screen << Arc might be full screen ?
ps It's like even before upgrade .
that is not true, you will not get the full screen contact picture. look at the video on the SE blog post below
http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/products/2011/05/26/update-on-facebook-inside-xperia/
If I change the picture from Facebook (corner of the screen) with a picture from the camera it wil be only half screen (not full screen like in engadget and even Sony Ericsson site). I have an Arc. Anyone knows how to enable Facebook notifications on locked screen?

maybe that one was the prototype version and they found that there were problems and hence took it out? TBH I don't really know. but just assumptions. Because the youtube video by SE shows corner..so I am taking that the final version doesn't have it and there isn't anything wrong with your version.
on a side note..has anyone tried to lock the phone using a lock pattern or a PIN? does it work? for me the pattern screen or PIN keypad does not appear even when I set the lock...

Unlock patern works for me.
You have to check a box that determines when the lock pattern should be required: 1) @ power up, 2) after a screen sleep, etc. This is on the lock pattern setup dialog.

There is no such setting in Xperia Arc!
In location and security you can "Set up screen lock". you have 3 options: pattern, PIN or password. For me works without any problems

even in Sony Ericsson site about Facebook integration there is a similar picture with the one on engadget:
http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/products/services/facebook-inside/overview?cc=gb&lc=en
What do you think? How can we make full screen contact pictures?
Perhaps it's just a publicity photo and the function to have full screen contact pictures just does not exist.
I have to say that its the only thing that disappointed me from the update. I was expecting the same functionality as the x10 where hi res pics were synced from facebook with the Timescape implementation there.

anyway to disable the swipe to unlock and only use the lockpattern? troublesome to unlock with 2 steps
This is taken from the SE website:
To set a screen lock:
From the Home screen, tap the Application screens icon.
Find and tap Settings > Location & security > Set up screen lock.
Select an option.
Here is the link: http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/support/phones/detailed/usethescreenlock/xperiaarc?cc=za&lc=en

I just noticed that when using the camera, a swipe to the left brings the last taken photo.
I'm on a 4.1.2 rom
Usually I pay attention to new android features, but I didn't remember reading about this one, so I thought I would share...
This was even announced along with 4.1 at Google I/O this summer
Unfortunately in 4.2 your can do the same thing on the permanent lock screen widget, exposing your gallery to everyone who might come across your phone.

no, not with a secure lock screen. it shows a padlock then asks you to enter your password

Yep, just tested it. Really stupid.
Though, on the flip side, I tried something I didn't realize before - tried to access the phones internal storage via USB and it wouldn't show anything until I unlocked it once after it was connected.

You can use this app too. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34093005 It works well.

OMG the swipe saved a potential high jacker of my photo Two clicks... I don't get why everyone is up in arms about the lock screen camera. When using a secure lock it will only show photos taken during that session or nothing at all. If your unsecure then it takes two swipes to do what two what taps will do on every single other phone running iOS 4+ or Android 4.0+. Seriously swipe to the camera icon or tap it on a iOS device and then tap gallery... Voila all the gallery is there....
Seriously I don't really get all the hatorade being thrown towards Google over swipe to camera... Its fantastic IMO, abit slow though
Yup, this was there since 4.1.

I'm not sure we talk about the same thing; at some point the discussion shifted to lockscreen, but what I originally meant was: when you use the camera app (when you can see on your screen what is seen by the camera) then you can swipe to the left to bring the gallery; I know you can also click on the thumbnail preview at the bottom, but swiping is easier when you use the phone single hand
While in the gallery view you can fling up or down to delete pics.
Hi all.
I have some questions regarding the new camera app in 4.2.
Why is there a difference between the camera I open from the lock screen widget and the actual camera out of the menu? For example when I take a picture with the widget camera, swipe to the left so have a look at the picture, I can only "delete" it. There are not the regular options like "share" or anything. I first have to go back, unlock, open gallery, find picture and then "share". Why is this??
Also, when I take a picture and afterwards have a look at it in the gallery, it actually captured more of the thing I wanted to take a picture of (I think about 10% at top, bottom, left, right). Has anybody else this issue?
And of course, the very frustrating lag when turning the device from landscape into portrait or vice versa, but like I read in other topics this is everybody's issue.
Thanks all!

That is for security reasons. Otherwise anybody who gets a hold of your phone could share your pictures anywhere he wants. If you disable your unlocking option (or set it to "move finger") you'll get the full menu including the icons for sharing.

But, correct me if I'm wrong, the camera can only be accessed via the 'Slide' screen lock, which isn't secure at all.

Yeah you're wrong. There is a huge camera icon sitting on the first page of the menu. I don't think anyone will miss that.

The camera actually take more than what we view on screen. That's annoying when I take a close up picture, it become farther view than what we seen on screen

you can also acces the camera using a lock pin. i didn't try with other security means (pattern, faceunlck, etc..) but i guess it's the same thing. personally, i like this feature a lot.

i think that was there before too..
The whole point of a pattern or pin lock is too prevent the lock screen from opening unless correct input is provided. Whereas lockscreen widgtes take u directly inside..
If they were enabled with pattern/pin lock the whole idea of security would be defeated as anyone copuld open your phone just by swiping them. Its a logical enhancement and not a bug.
sometimes I want to see the widget without unlocking my phone. And how I want to unlock my phone is my choice, whether password or pattern or none. But I should be able to see my widget.

i widget is kind of a short cut. If you swipe it across it opens up the correspoding app and also unlocks the phone simultaneously. This cant be done in case of pateern/pin lock,

Hi, every time I write a screen off memo it will not show on the AOD screen. Instead will go directly into a icon. If I tap twice the icon will appear for a brief time and then go back as icon.
The time it will stay on the screen will not be combined with the date/time.
Anyone has the same? Is it a problem of the settings or csc?
Tks

Yes, same here - direct to icon. I saw review videos where the screen off memo actually remains on the display along with the always-on screen. I tried every combination (i think) of always-on display and lockscreen notification settings, but never found a way to get it to stay.
On those same videos, by the way, the main settings screen looked very much like the one of the Note 5 and not at all like Grace UX, which is what i have. So i wonder if there are different software versions out there with some serious differences.
Maybe csc related ? mine is XSG.

If you go into the always on display settings and then about it should show you an update is available. After this is downloaded it is now working correctly.
Not sure why this did not ship on the phone or they make the update more obvious.

Ok, so I setup fingerprint (wow, it's significantly worse than my LG G8) so I wanted to use an alternate to unlock my phone. I set up face recognition which completed way faster than I thought. Now, for the life of me I can't figure out how to use it as the method to unlock my phone when the screen is off. I feel like I checked off all the right boxes but I still can't get it to work. Can someone please point me in the right direction here?

It seems that my ad blocking app BLOKADA was the culprit. Which is weird because it has never caused an issue before. Thanks for your input though
I use Face Unlock and Rise to wake, I don't have to do anything, but pick my phone up and it unlocks instantly
