So I just bought an Amaze. My question is what will have the most dev support?
I'm still relatively new and my only experience is with my G2X. So the second question is, which will be the most friendly for a novice?

theres an amaze forum that you will probably get more answers in
I had thought about posting there but had figured that they would be a little biased. The same would also hold true here as well I imagine. I've never owned a samsung device but it seems that with ODIN their devices are relatively unbrickable. I wasn't sure if the same could be said for HTC.

Well. Lets not sugar coat it. The first round of gs devices had some issues that were deal brekers for alot of people. **** gps and awful radios. This time around those things are not issues. Thats why alot of people went with htc and think this second round of gs devices will have the same issues. Theyre gonna miss out on an amazing device.

I don't know, I'm not so sure that the Amaze is overall inferior to the Hercules.
I got the Hercules after a year and half of owning an HTC Desire, and I loved this device. The Amaze seems like a pretty solid incarnation of the Desire. Sense is probably the best out of the various Android overlays, the camera oriented features seem smart and handy and the higher resolution display is pretty nice to look at.
I personally chose to go with the Hercules because performance is pretty important to me and the Amaze struggles a bit with its extra resolution (maybe also Sense). I also really dug the design of the Hercules and personally, I don't use my phone as a camera that much.

It pretty much is idk most reviews said the battery life was horrible. Getting roughly 4-5hrs tops in battery life. That being said this means even with root and custom roms it won't get much better than it already is. I was a die hard htc fan but not anymore I didn't like the vibrant. I thought it was on the verge of breaking every time i took it out my pocket. The amaze is what the sensation should of been.
amaze and galaxy
ive had this phone for a few days, i like everything about it but im really considering the amaze, mostly because i hate touchwiz, and i have a feeling more of the devs will go towards the amaze, anyone that used both know if i should stick with the galaxy ?
You do know you can install another launcher, right? I don't like touchwiz either, which is why I installed ADW. It's free & has themes, try it.
I had a Sensation which is almost the same as the Amaze, and I actually sold it after only 2 months cause I hated it so much, and so I could get this phone. I don't regret it AT ALL. The GSII is a much better phone. I've had a lot of HTC phones & they've all had the same problems, except for my HD2. They're also harder to root b/c of their stupid locked bootloaders, whereas we had root within what- a week? It took forever to get perm-root for the Sensation. I HIGHLY doubt that development will be better for the Amaze either, especially since Cyanogen now works for Samsung. The Sensation & the Amaze both suffer from the same hardware issues too- heat, bad battery life, wifi/bluetooth death grip, SENSE(lol), etc. IMO- you'd regret switching.

There is basically one guy dev'ing for the Amaze, and a 14 year old kid pissing everyone off, almost getting that one dev to leave XDA. I'd stay far far far away from the Amaze is development is what you want.
Well first off, my Incredible has been a POS ever since I dropped it and cracked the screen, even though I replaced it, it doesnt work right.
Not only that, Im tired of Sense. I was pissed that we got Gingerbread 8 months after it was announced and also even if I get a new HTC phone, Sense has just become too bloated for me.
So how many other people are going to become Android Purists and get the Galaxy Nexus?
you should do a poll.

Even though the names of both phones are now wrong, the Vigor being the Rezound and the Prime being the Galaxy-Nexus.
If you hated Sense that much I'm actually pretty surprised you haven't rooted and put on an AOSP ROM. The DINC has had an awesome development community and we've been lucky enough to have a ton of really great ROMs ported for us and we were never tied to waiting for HTC or being stuck with Sense.

agreed. We have never been short on ROMs. I have found that there have been some really awesome ones with sense. Mctwist is running smooth as ever.
I'm probably going to get the galaxy nexus after it comes out and is clear from any major bugs, but that is just to upgrade because there is nothing wrong with my incredible. It has literally been incredible since the day I got it. It's rare for phones these days to actually be able to do that.
I am getting the Nexus and then using my incredible as a back up.
Will finally have a back up phone that is android.
Still torn on this myself. I will definitely have to see it in person, and I'd like to see how the developer community works out.
Of course by then some new better yet phone will be just around the corner.

Same here. I like a lot - a LOT - of what I've seen and heard about the Vigor/Rezound, but I simply want to give the Galaxy Nexus a solid try. ICS from day one, cutting-edge updates. The ICS presentation in Hong Kong sold me, I don't want to wait weeks to months (I suspect a viable AOSP Inc build within a week of the AOSP ICS release - I'm not as confident on the Vigor, since we don't know the bootloader status yet, and this IS Verizon we're talking about) for ICS on a Vigor.
They're (rumored to be) coming out close enough together, that if I end up disliking my Galaxy Nexus and just like the Rezound better (you can bet I'll be in a B&M VZW store getting my hands on it) I can return and switch.
I really like my Incredible a lot, and I'm floored with the strong dev community for it, and what I've seen of similar things for the EVO family and so on. I hope the same for the Vigor/Rezound will be true. But then again, I've seen an overwhelming majority of anyone with a Nexus phone saying how happy they are with theirs.
For one, I'll be getting it just because it's a Nexus device. I enjoy my Incredible and will continue use it as a backup. I've tried all kinds of Roms and I just wanna try something different. I enjoy Sense but the recent versions have just not been fun for me, maybe that's because of Verizon's locking down or something.
It looks nice, but I am going to watch the hype for a bit. It is hard to move on from something as smooth and still as well supported as our INC.
I am going for the Droid Razr, never have and never will own a Samsung phone. Motorola and HTC have proven themselves in the Signal Strength and Quality category for many many years.

not an issue in any of their newer phones either.
I was completely going for the Rezound before I realized that it's still a mystery if it's going to get an unlocked bootloader or not. That's a deciding factor for me.
The Nexus is a great phone, but again another huge letdown is the SD card slot. I use my phone as my iPod so I need the space for my music collection.
I have no problem waiting with my trusty INC until I can see better how these phones will turn out.
Waiting for the quad core phone that is not even coming to verizon is just insanity. It'll be such a long wait, I'll bet you almost anything that the Q1 Q2 date will be pushed back, not to mention that phone is for AT&T, verizon may not see a quad core phone for another year.

That's a pretty big issue for me too, and seeing that motorola pointed the finger at Verizon for the locked bootloader on the Droid Razr, I'm not expecting to see any sort of official bootloader unlocking from HTC (even if they wanted to) for the Rezound. Wouldn't be surprised to see something down the road from revolutionary/unrevoked, but I'd like to be able to buy a phone, turn on USB debugging, plug it into my laptop, do a quick 'fastboot oem unlock' and be done with it (nexus).

I had it, used it, uninstalled it. Streaming over 3G isn't that great in spotty coverage, plus I really dislike the app and how it functions, the UI mostly.
The more I think about it though, the more I think 32GB will be enough. I'm leaning towards the Nexus but still going to wait it out. With the prices they're being sold at I don't want to make a choice that I'll end up regretting.
I've got an htc Desire for about two years now and I think that it's time for something new.
Would You get the Galaxy Nexus, or would You wait for the Galaxy s3 or even the next generation Nexus?

SGS III will probably be your best bet, the S II was voted best smartphone in the world, from there on it can only get better.
Rumoured release is April like the original S and S II so I'd wait it out if I were you.
I know there is the Desire S, but something named the Desire 2 would be awesome
I'd get the Galaxy Nexus but thats just me (ive got 11 months left till upgrade )
Haha, the Desire 2 is the HTC One
A question you also have to ask is whether you like samsungs interface (widgets and all). Even button placement on the phone. If you are going to root and put stock android, then you'll obviously look forward to the galaxy s3 seeing as the s2 is already awesome. If you like the sense on HTC, you might prefer another HTC phone.
A good option may be to ask for a better contract when it is over and then you be saving to get a good phone. I think the nexus has been out for some time already, no?

I'm kinda interested in the Dell Venue Pro, but it's outdated... the htc 7 pro, too...
At the moment I'm stuck with the Galaxy Nexus because it's the flagship of android and not of a manufacturer.
Also it's cheaper than the newest devices...
I think I've read somewhere that the s3 will come out later than expected?

You know those bottom feeder fish you can get for fish tanks... and they suck onto the glass.... Blackberry's suck like that, except they suck ass.
HTC One, for me too.
And if not Android...I just love the Nokia Lumia900. Very high on my wish list.
might i suggest the sony xperia s ?
i wish htc made a more powerful version of the desire z , loved the shape etc and had a physical keyboard . with the htc one i was a tad disappointed about the ui and the battery size and the fact it has a built in battery opposed to a removable one etc although it has 4g in comparison some of the other releases , i feel it'll get out dated faster and i find users will be going to there chargers more often
Would love to have htc one x. I was actually looking into purchasing the next iteration of iphone but seeing that temple run is coming to android, I would probably stick with android.
Well I guess I will wait until the release of s3...can't wait any longer
I am also thinking about changing to windows phone.
I use my mobile phone to surf in the internet, to write texts, whatsapp, SMS, Facebook and so on
So what do you say? Which one do you prefer?
PS: blackberry is no option for me,it's too expensive for this hardware..

my choice is htc one xl
I got a Nexus Prime, I'll be selling it when the SGS III comes out, providing it's got a 720p screen, I don't want to go back to 480.
The SGS III will have an insane amount of developer interest in it, so hopefully AOKP will be ported to it and I'll be as happy as a pig in ****.

...cool. I guess. I loved my Evo4G with a passion--it was an amazing phone with a spectacular development community...but...After the ET4G I'll be damned if I get saddled with Sense and a half-assed camera ever again. My Moment's camera, while only 3.2mp, took far superior pictures.
...at least eventually Sense will be option thanks to AOSP roms, but, I love this amazing camera far too much. Samsung makes cameras, HTC does not.
Supposedly the sensor was the same as in the iphone4 and they still managed to make it take half assed pictures....some were great, but, that took engineering...blurry shots, odd colors, worthless in low light. pffft. HTC has got a lot to prove before they win me back. (though I am open to the idea)
EDIT: and how could I forget the screen? Any other phone's screen is washed out and dry looking. Only the iphone screen comes close, and it still isn't as completely awesome.
Im gonna wait a few weeks for some feedback, I learned my lesson pre ordering and showing up at 7am for the evo3d. HTC wasn't nice to us with that phone. Im sure the new EVO will get some great development.

Looks astonishing but that's probably all it is. I had the evo, evo3D, and the jumped ship to the ET. Nothing I've used has wowed me like the epic did. I guess I will have to wait and give it a try to see if it will be anywhere near SGS3 ballpark one its announced.

So the HTC One will be known at the Evo4GLTE. I am sorry but I think it is time for Sprint to let the name Evo go away. Should be a nice phone though regardless of the name. Hopefully it will ship with the bootloader unlocked.
Well at least we are gonna have some good options for Lte. It's still gonna take a lot for HTC to get their namesake back. Wtf were they thinking with the 3d POS? If you notice, they are trying to get a similar phone on all carriers like Samsung did. We all see how that paid off Sharp looking phone!

Aren't all HTC phones going forward locked and them making you unlock through them?
After moving to Verizon and having the Galaxy Nexus, if I were on Sprint it would be a tough choice for me.
The GN is my first Nexus device and I must say I am really enjoying the pure Google experience. While the EVO LTE might have some better specs internally, there is just something about Vanilla ICS which is a much better experience over Sense.
Curious how this will play out for you guys and what device people will be moving to. If I was going to go to a non Nexus device I think I would wait to hear what the GSIII is going to include. I am thinking that would be the non-Nexus device to go with over this HTC phone.
Sammy proved to me they are the leaders after there SGS2 and they know they set the bar high for themselves and I think they are going to deliver...Geeze, If the current SGS2 had a 720p screen and an LTE radio in it I don't think many would even look at the EVO LTE.
On top of it, if you are going to go with a Non removable battery, you need to throw something large in there like Moto did with the Razr Maxx to make it worth it...2000mah isn't even the size of an extended battery.
I don't know... I think Ima go the Gnex route until the GS3 drops.
I used to think my mother evo was slim.. Till the e4gt.. Now I can't stand the thickness of holding any other phone.. Lol

I totally agree with you on throwing a large battery in like Moto. That 2000 mAh battery is a complete buzz kill for me. I will be getting the GN when it comes out. I've been wanting the real Android experience. To me usability is way more important then having the top of the line specs. WP and iOS have really opened my eyes to this recently.
Hi everyone. I have a G2. I've had it for quite sometime now and my contract is up with tmobile. I'm looking to upgrade. Its either the Amaze, Sensation, or One S. But I would not get the sensation or amaze because those are sort of old hardware. If you are going to have to wait for 2 years to get a new phone you should get the latest of the latest :silly:. So in my oppinion you have either the One S or the GSIII.
The problem with getting the galaxy nexus is that it is a year old and if THAT runs so well with jelly bean, could you imagine the GSIII??? It would be amazing!

My response to that would be- Why would I get a locked down iPhone when I could get an Android device? The quality gap between Android and Apple used to be drastic, but now I think Android has an edge. The One S and GSIII are better devices than the 4S, and will hold their own against the inevitable 4inch iPhone 5.
That said don't be shocked when the iPhone 5 reaches T-Mobile, Tim Cook isn't going to leave an entire carrier to Android like Jobs did.
My contract already expired, but I kept my DZ and Ill wait for the next nexus device. Its just a damn big advantage to have pure Android as its meant to be, fast updates and great dev support. Sure I was tempted to switch phone as the contract expired but I know that Ill be happy for my patience in November.

That's kind of where I'm at too. I want to wait. Its really my mom and bro who want/need new phones. My mom is dead set on an iphone so I told her to wait and my bro really doesn't care. They both still prefer blackberry which is retarded but whatevs. I guess ill just make them wait. Our contract was up this past month. I refuse to switch because verizon is too expensive, att is too clogged and annoying, and sprint is not gsm yet.
