Anyone know if & when Netflex app will be availible for SM Epic 4G??????
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
Netflix would be the only people who know for sure, however if you're feeling anxious you can check out this thread and download the "Device Check Disabled" apk file.
It is available if u flash the gingerbread leak we have. It works just fine.

Where can I get the Gingerbeard leak?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
Netflix is probably waiting for the official Gingerbread release to make it available for the Epic. There are several ROMs with EE03 leaked beta Gingerbread in the Samsung Epic Development thread. They will all be on the first page.
There is one on the market but it sucks

Netflix doesn't like the DRM (or lack thereof) in any iteration of the OS pre-2.3. That's it really. Gingerbread or newer and your golden.

Partly true. Is not that Netflix doesnt like DRM on 2.2. HTC Evo is on 2.2 and getting Netflix. I beleive that HTC must have pushed out a specific DRM requirement in their last ROM update. Samsung didnt do that until they pushed out their Gingerbread version.
HTC is known to support their phones better than Samsung.
/\
Its not that either, read my explaination thread. It isn't because of an HTC update. Its because 2.2 was built off the snapdragon.

it will when it becomes gingerbread, all 2.3 roms can already run it...

I really wish T-Mobile or HTC would just announce something (I realize HTC mentioned the Desire-Z but that doesn't mean that the G2 will get it). There should be no reason why we can't get Gingerbread Officially. Gingerbread can clearly run on the G2. This is why I wish I could of gotten a Nexus phone (But I do enjoy my hardware keyboard) but this phone was the only other phone that ran almost Vanilla Android (Minus the Bloatware)
Cant see why the gingerbread update for evo came out and no devs are tackling a rooted version? Haus had one
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
I'm not sure what you mean, there are plenty of roms that at minimum use the new update's kernel in their build. There are also several roms that are based on the OTA that are rooted and have customizations.
I think he means rooting the new update for people who accepted the OTA
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Yes the new ota update. Only haus has the stock update out but its not zip aligned I figured devs would be all over this.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
There are a couple out there that are rooted versions of the stock OTA update. As far as zipaligned ones, here's one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1110810
But basically this latest OTA is kinda boring. Aside from the updated kernel it doesn't really have anything new and exciting that we haven't already seen from the leaked release a couple of months ago.
So what's ended up happening is that most devs are using the OTA's kernel and incorporate that into their own 2.3.3 Sense roms.
Seriously its not like a big deal the new 2.3 update especially since most of us hae been running 2.3 for a while now either through AOSP or leaked updated. Plus with Tablets the EVO 3D coming out maybe developers are looking in another direction. Hey here is a thought why dont you create the next big thing... If not be happy with what we got a host of choices
MIUI
AOSP
HTC Sense
Ports - from damn near every high end Android device out there...
Developers do what you do - No complaints from me... Thanks for making my EVO a good investment

http://phandroid.com/2011/06/30/tea...r-evo-3d-should-be-bringing-root-any-day-now/
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Considering the Evo and the Evo3d are two completely different phones, I highly doubt that would work for ours
From what I have read it is a gingerbread kernel exploit... which may work.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Ever notice how the rage exploit was used on multiple phones.... unrevoked
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Seriously, I know that I'm anxious, but correct me if I'm wrong... Any general exploit, OS or application such as Adobe, can be used to gain root on any system running it. Since we already have eng hboot and recovery for the evo this may be what we have been waiting for.
I don't know a ton about kernels, but I don't think every phone has a different one...
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
If I was forced to guess - I'd say yes.
They're both coming with the same bootloader, and they're both coming from the GB update. The only real difference between a 3D and a 4G is the kickup in hardware specs. Otherwise, they're the same thing for all intents and purposes.
I kind of always suspected that those GB OTA updated 4Gs would be "saved" once someone came out with a 3D exploit/root.
Getting root is only half the battle. The locked bootloader needs to be fixed, as well. Can't do much with root if you can't mess with recovery at all. At best, it gets you Wireless Tether and root-needed apps back - but nothing in terms of flashing any roms or the like.
Thanks. When did HTC start locking the bootloader?
This may help clear up the confusion regarding root and s-off...

Dammit!!!! Well, at the very least we know there are still weaknesses in HTC's armor.
I just got my replacement a week ago, brand new evo, after my phone fell out of my pocket on the freeway while on my bike, and it came with GB on it, I tried swapping the logic boards on the phones but no go, it was fractured.
Any word on "progress" <---(PROGRESS NOT ETA; hents, 'going good', 'not even trying', 'hit a brick wall', or 'too busy playing with myself') with the new B.S. hboot 2.16.S*thware? Searched and came up with nothing, and been searching religiously everyday and no sign of anyone saying anything. Is every Dev working the 3d over like a $2 hooker and forgetting phones break and have to be replaced?
I am waiting also, my speaker is blown on my 003 hardware EVO, and I'm not going to subject myself to flash withdraws until the new one gets rooted
fre3vo
I just ran fre3vo on my EVO 4G and it said...
locating access point...
This device is unsupported by this exploit.
BUMMER!

Google never released Honeycomb; besides, its a tablet OS so it really has nothing for phones.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Oh....I'm sure if google was to release it the devs here on xda can manage to boot it on the g2....I've seen a youtube video of the phone with honeycomb but its completly useless
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
Google did release honeycomb's source the day after ICS's source was released, No one has cooked it into a rom and honestly its not worth the effort.
dev's wouldn't bother building roms from source, when newer source is released.
Also, they would have the same issues with camera and fm radio not working in honeycomb if anyone tried making it, as no drivers have been made/released for our devices past gingerbread.
-Nipqer
If I recall the phone portions of the OS were completely borked anyways. Which is why the big G never released the code.
Did they actually release HC code with ICS release? I thought it was just that ICS included the HC changes plus everything fixed for phones.

Sooooo about these drivers does google have to release them or do we here at xda have to cook up our own because I believe the next ics relase should have a working camera right?
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda premium
Google doesn't build the drivers, the manufacturers build drivers to make Android work with each different set of hardware. Its possible for the devs to do, but its very time consuming. HTC isn't going to make HC drivers for our device, since HC is tablet only. And effort (both HTC and devs here) is probably better spent on ICS for the reason that ICS is mostly HC but including phone functionality, and a few other features and optimizations.

Dude, they aren't even RCs! If you want a ROM that has everything working all of the time then either revert back to stock or run a STABLE release.

Camera kinda works means, it has some functionality, but is far from perfect.
You can't do video capture, and the camera struggles with anything above VGA resolution. So nowhere near the 5MP the sensor can offer.
It is quite hard work to get this **** working fully, you should appreciate what they have done so far. So stop *****ing that it ain't perfect.
-Nipqer
I thought you need to run a camera app for the camera to work properly.
Plus I can live without the Desire's camera, not exactly that great.

Edit:Our device is the epic 4g touch on this forum
If you were able to root you HTC the epic is much easier to root there are one click tools to root the epic in the dev forum sfubs has easy to follow instructions and there are gb based roms and if you want a taste of ICS roms as stated I would root just to get rid of bloatware
