Hi All,
I have a question about cmw's recovery and the rom manager. In the dev forum, theres cmw 3.1.0.1, which i've downloaded. However, rom manager keeps telling me the latest is 2.5.0.7. So im curious which one i should actually be using?
Reason I ask is because i've been getting a few odd problems flashing rcmix on my phone. Generally it will work properly (coming from a stock 2.2 rom), though from any other rom it wont. I know that if i flash something like insertcoin, reboot to recovery, wipe/reset, install rcmix it never works. Same goes for when i come from rcmix 1.5 to 1.6 (and 1.7). I assume its got something to do with the a2sd partition, but im not sure what or why cmw recovery is not wiping that jumping between versions of rcmix end with a total failure (stuck at boot logo forever). Quite often this happens with other roms too (like going from rcmix -> insertcoin or oxygen).
Mines a desire lcd, often running stock 2.2 at the moment (rooted, s-off'd) and the standard hboot.
Officially the Desire had the latest recovery version of 2.5.0.7 or what ever it is. 3.1.0.1 is a build built from the source unofficially. V3 has a new type of script and so might help with your issues.
Tbh I hate rom manager because it doesn't work well. Try manually flashing roms. It might help even more.

Same here. RomManager doesn't offer 3.x.x.x versions. You'll habe to flash it manually via Fastboot (for S-OFF) or with Unrevoked (for S-ON).
I actually dont use rom manager for flashing roms and the only reason i went to it was cause I couldnt find a consistent way of finding the lastest clockworkmod recovery image (theres alot of conflicting info out there).
Thanks for the info though, was handy to know. Interestingly, the version rom manager booted me into (boots off update.zip from the sdcard?) was older then the one i had.

I have always stuck with CWM 2.5.0.7 - it seems to be the latest version that nobody reports problems with. I don't think there's any good reason to update to the newer versions.

I doubt *flashing* clockwork would cause force closes. But you can always revert back to 2.5.0.1 or AmonRa and restore a backup. Check the "Legacy" area of ROM Manager.
I also had this problem as ROM manager kept informing me that a new version of clockwork mod was available. after "updgrading" I couldn't flash any new ROMs and got a truncated message that during the process that 3.0 series clockwork mod needed to have some files deleted due to changes with Gingerbread and something about google.... (sorry about the lack of good definition on this, but the text was truncated and I was freaking out at the time since I started getting stuck at the white HTC boot screen.) Eventually I was able to perform a recovery and finally flash back to clockwork 2.5 and everything is OK now.
Strangely, after doing this ROM Manager indicated that 2.5 CW was the current version... However, after a few hours I started getting the message to "upgrade" to 3.0 again. I'll just ignore that for now.
Does anyone know why 3.0 is not working for everyone?
I got this also, but i wasnt using CM...i was on a sense mod and was able to restore a different rom and went to the new amon-RA instead.
Maybe its something with CM specifically
It has to do with the scripts used in the update.zips. Most people are still using the olds version used in 1.5... Net said that he had to change it to the new scripts used in gingerbread which makes it not work with any updates or backups made prior. There is a topic on it in here where he explains it. He says to flash the 2.5 if it's not letting you update something.

They put up a new version of Clockworkmod recovery 2.6.0.1. This will work for all that had problems with the 3.0.XXX versions of the recovery. All the goodies of the 3.0XXX but with amend support so it will work with all roms.
All I can say is that Amon has never let me down. May want to check it out if you haven't already. Even their recent update was smooth as silk. No problems for me.
I had this happen to me too with a flash resulting in the white evo screen loop. I was able to flash to the amon ra 1.8 but I couldn't flash anything. So I upgarded to the new version of RA but am still not able to flash anything. I go into the white evo screen loop and then I have to pull the battery and nand a restore. Not sure what I need to do now. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I need help fast...
I got my Htc Incredible replace today and as soon I got it I rooted the phone and I use a custom recovery image to root.. everything went well but when I got the Rom manager from the market and now its asking me to flash a recovery but I dont want to flash to the v3.. I wanna stay with the 2.5 version is there any way I can flash a image with rom manager instead of flashing the new version..
thanks .
EDIT: re-read post.
If you rooted with the latest unrevoked, you should be on 2.5 anyway. The latest ROM Manager only works with the 3.x recoveries. So, either don't use rom manager, (Flash stuff manually) or upgrade.

All the CWM recoverie are here. http://mirrorbrain.cyanogenmod.com/cm/recoveries/
2.5.1.2 here, RM should be able to flash it.
http://mirrorbrain.cyanogenmod.com/cm/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-2.5.1.2-inc.zip
And there's always 2.5.0.5 PB31IMG.zip, via unrevoked forever.
http://downloads.unrevoked.com/forever/recovery/clockworkmod/PB31IMG.ZIP
If you want the older version of CWM to persist, don't update it in rommanager. Note that when flashing stuff, you do it through recovery, not rommanager.
I have the older CWM, rommanager v 3.0.7, works to create backups. Use recovery to flash and restore.

Welp
Personally, I stay away from RomManager. Have never seen something work in RomManager that didn't also work (better) straight out of CWM Recovery.
I am still on 2.5.x.x as well; 3.0.0.5 and 3.0.0.8 seem to cause WAY too much trouble, and there is no clarification from Koush that he is resolving those bugs.
I would love to see an answer on this. I can go back to 2.5 but...
Some of the newer roms require you to use 3.xx.xx Most say to use 3.0.0.7. I would love to but when I set to this version my phone shows no recovery. Just a black screen. I can still push the buttons and get the actions to work, from memory, but this is not a solution. Is anyone else have the "black screen" issue?

I think 3.0.0.7 had an SLCD issue. You must have an SLCD Incredible. You might try 3.0.0.8, I believe it works fine with the newer Incredibles.
Hi guys!
I've always been the kind to know what he's doing before actually trying, not to add I'm the techy-kind, so I've always liked to download ROM's on my PC, maybe add / remove some apps, then flash with my clockworkmod recovery (I'm using the 2.5.0.7 that came with unrevoked).
I've mostly been using a few very stable ROM's (CM7, redux, DeFrost are the main entries on my list) since I need to have a reliable phone, but I'm having a bit of spare time and decided to go play a little bit, so I downloaded some stuff I find interesting and started trying it out, then moving on to the next one. This is when I thought ROM Manager, which has been sitting on my phone without ever being used from the day I rooted, could actually be useful, making my life a bit easier
I'm saying this because I was reading the thread on Cool's AceS, where he says it's easiest when done from ROM Manager, as all the add-ons are listed there, so it's much simpler than using a PC. Willing to give it a try, I started the app, only to see it tell me I need to flash CWM through ROM Manager to use it I've read a few threads by people asking about the same thing: 'I already have CWM installed. Should I let it do it?' But most of the replies were like 'Yes.' or 'Yes. If you don't like it, flash another recovery afterwards.', and I'm not quite happy with them.
Now, the problem is that I am S-ON, because I don't feel quite well about S-OFF-ing my phone, mainly because I want to be able to use my warranty should anything happen.
So the question is, should I click 'Yes' to let ROM Manager flash me CWM again? What happens if something goes wrong, how do I get back to what I have now, since I don't want to S-OFF to do fastboot flash recovery? Is there a way of making it see I already have clockworkmod installed? Or should I just leave my curiosity aside and keep flashing through recovery and ignore ROM Manager?
Thank you!
P.S. Sorry for making you read such a long novel
I'm pretty sure that clicking that button in rom manager just flashes a new version of rom manager temporarily. When you boot up next it will revert to your old version. The only way to change your recovery permanently is to push it via adb.
So in short, "flashing" a new recovery via rom manager is not going to do anything permanent to your phone, so no worries.
So, can u show me the way please? Thx.
if you do S-Off your phone you can always revert to S-On by using an RUU that matches your phone.
ROM Manager can be problematic as it fake flashes a version of CWM that isn't compatible with all Desires(I can't use the CWM 2.5.0.7 that comes with ROM Manager, I can only use CWM 2.5.1.8).
imo your always better off to flash using and flashing a proper recovery, not ROM Manager as it's not always the right way for your specific phone (depending on HBoot).

Hi
I'm trying to flash a gingerbread rom to my desire but I always end up being stuck on the HTC logo. I tried several ROMS( opendesire, modaco with sense and without, some more too but can't remember the names,... ) The only gingerbread ROM that installs is CM7, but i have market problems that annoy the hell out of me ( can't find certain apps, need to hack to install bigger apps ). A shame because i really like CM, but i want to compare with others
Any idea why gingerbread won't flash correctly. I have tried several froyo ROMS without any issues before, by the way
I have
BRAVO PVT1 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
RADIO-5.14.05.17
thx
ntdst
Did you remember to wipe your data between each different install?
That's the most common problem when you get stuck at boot.
i use rom-manager and always create a back-up and wipe.
I also tried with an empty SD-Card and repartioned it ( with rom-manager ). The results are always the same, every gingerbread rom gets stuck. I thought there was something wrong with the partitions or maybe i need s-off for gingerbread... ?
What version of CWM do you have? Did you update manually to the new radio for the GB Roms?

If you flash the 32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.23. Radio a good idea will be to flash
the ril-firmare-drivers updates for it too

I'm using Rom Manager v4.2.0.2
It is possible that i flashed that radio with a previous modaco sense/froyo ROM.
should i first flash that one you mention and then try again?
Okay, Rom Manager Is not a recovery What's your recovery exactly?
And what ROMs do you try to flash?
AFAIK, you need to flash that first in order to get booted.
sorry clockworkmod 2.5.0.7 is current recovery
I really tried several ROMS
Modaco sense gingerbread
Modaco without sense
opendesire
oxygen
etc...
all and always stuck on HTC Logo except for CM7, that one works fine except for the market issues

I found this in one of the ROM threads.
So my suggestion:
First try to update the radio to the newest (alredy posted the link).
If that does not help, then try to update your recovery.
updating radio and flashing updates did not help
i'm still stuck when trying to install oxygen
I could use some help in updating my recovery. I f i do this with rom manager 2.5.0.7 is the most recent.
I seems there's a 2.5.1.2 out and 3.x.x.x is not advised. Is there an update zip somewhere to use?
People report that Insertcoin S v22 can be installed with 2.5.0.7
Make sure you do a full wipe in THE RECOVERY, not ROM Manager or any program.
Too boot into recovery hold down Power+Vol Down while phone is off.
There:
1. Wipe data/factory reset
2. Wipe cahce
3. Under advanced menu > Wipe dalvik-cache
Also make sure your SD card is partitioned right.
And for the update - you can only update your recovery if you are S-OFF or you use Unrevoked3 with a custom recovery image.
Grab a copy of Ubuntu and check that the apps2sd partition on your card is formatted correctly. I tried all ways of formatting and partitioning (via clockwork/rom manager) and it never formatted correctly and always caused HTC boot sticking.
If I completely reformatted SD and reflashed an older rom (like Leedroid 2.3) would then boot fine. I then used Rom Manager to repartition & format SD, boot ubuntu (live CD is enough - no install required) then reformatted partition to EXT4, flashed and worked fine.
Also, is 2.5.0.7 your TRUE recovery version? Turn your phone on with vol-down held then select recovery - does the version change to an older one? If this is the case you may need to re-root is (Unrevoked) to update your recovery version permanantly.
Hope that helps.
If you are S-off you can flash newest recovery using fastboot, this flash would be permanent!
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-3.0.2.8-bravo.img
i agree with TMSsecret,
the gingerbread ROMs i have used seem to need a more recent version of HBOOT. First time I tried to flash LeeDroid 3.0.2, it didnt work. Applied S-OFF (which updates your HBOOT during the process) and tried again, worked no worries. Also, if you're keen to install the latest ROMs, upgrade to clockworkmod recovery 3.x... It took me a few tries to get FASTBOOT working properly (possibly because my version of windows XP has had too long to decompose), but if you persevere, it will work.
The best way to make sure your ROM will work is a thorough research session. Not slagging you at all, just pointing out the obvious. Look up everything to do with your intended ROM and read the threads.
Best ClockWork Rom Manager Version For Desire?
okay i used the latest original untouched once yesterday installed perfectly, however after doing a backup it crashed on htc start up loop. i opened recovery and re flashed my backup all worked okay but am now wondering what if something happens when installing a custom rom. what is the best version to use.
thanks
Easiest, and safest way to flash is via your recovery from boot (ClockworkMod/AmonRa etc). ROM Manager itself has seen many issues recently and many people advise to stay clear of it until it's totally stable.

ROM Manager is made by ClockworkMod devs. It's an application, a standalone app whereas ClockworkMod is a recovery and this is what you would use to flash the ROM. If you have ClockworkMod as your recovery you flash a new ROM using this procedure:
Do this first to backup your existing ROM in case anything goes wrong.
Then do this to flash your new recovery.
Hopefully everything should go okay.
EDIT: You can leave ROM Manager where it is, it won't affect anything you do in the above procedures and you may find that your new ROM doesn't package it anyway so you won't have it anyway.

I've got 4.2.0.2 but I can't comment because I've not used it yet but I know I successfully partitioned my SD to ext3 using the version you mention (only because I couldn't get gparted to work).
