Its time that XDANDROID was properly branded. jk
I'd like to incorporate some creative works from themers and users on xda-developers. And so if you've always wanted to contribute to XDANDROID but didn't have the technical knowledge well nows your chance.
Anyone can participate and i'm hoping to see alot of creative work. I'll be setting up a pole from a weeks time and will let you the user's decide which artworks are best and will be incorporated in the next build.
Here are some details:

Nice
Good luck guys, I will try post something too but I have to enhance my photoshop skills
Because of my lack of photoshop skills here's an idea someone might want to try:
The Android droid actualy looks somewhat like a rounded capital A...
If you draw an XD emoticon on it's face, you have an XD Android
I think that this is a fantastic idea.
Comon peeps
We need some of your help guys.
I hate stock and we need cooler mods from a great community on xda
ill try to do something cool, but boot animation, what format should it be in? GIF? Flash format?
Cool idea!
Which resolution do you want for the boot animation?

The resolution is 512x256 and if possible provide each frame in png format. As the boot animation reads each image separately. The maximum amount of frames are 60 but you can do less than that.
Can't wait to see what you guys have to offer
You can provide a GIF image too, as i'll just rip it but it would be much easier if you provided the images separate instead of merged into a GIF
This is probably a stupid question but do the wallpaper sizes you asked for allow for the multiple-home-screen sliding of Android to work? They're the same size as the devices' screens, and I don't know if that means that it would only be big enough to cover one home screen without being stretched, or if Android does something differently with regard to setting wallpapers.
Also, the Hero boot animation is 217 frames long, does this matter?
And finally, I guess the animation should be able to loop (?).
Hmm, hard to do anything on only 60 frames. But here's a first draft at a boot animation. Any suggestions for improvements are most welcome.
I'll probably add another animation tomorrow when I have had time to get some better ideas.
At what fps does the animation play back by the way?
And would it be hard to replace the current bootanimation with a custom one? It would be nice to test the animation before submitting it to you.
That one looks great! If I had to be critical I'd say you could make the text colour more distinct from that of the background, but I love the Android
It's much better than anything I would have done... Do you have professional experience in graphics/rendering?
@lugiber: that's funny Good job
It's too bad I don't have skills in this area because I have a great idea. Something like an Android(pretty much pac-man) eating a windows mobile sign and leaving behind the xd-android sign behind.
Thanks for the positive reponses guys! I'll make "xdandroid" stick out more and update the animation.
Hehe, i like the idea about the android eating windows. I'll see what i can do.
I had some ideas in that direction but I wasn't shure if people would respond well to "windows bashing".
Here's an XDAndroid wallpaper idea I made - I know that it's pretty basic but I wouldn't mind some feedback

Nice one! How about making the background black? It's not filling the whole screen, (since that's how Android does it) So I think whatever's on the outside of the animation is black.

Nice! If you don't mind me asking, how exactly do you do that sort of thing? The only way I can think of is by lightening each frame separately, which would be both time consuming and probably quite messy.

haha looks like you both interpreted the requirements wrong or i wrote them wrong :S
I'd like it to be 512 width and 256 in height.
But other than that it looks good. If possible add some android in there doing something humourous ( not necessary but would be greatly appreciated )
Anyone have this live wallpaper working on their G1? I tried installing the .apk on CM6 but it just shows a white screen.
Probably due to the resolution?

I dont think its that, i just think our gpu can't handle it or the relevant parts of renderscript are missing.
Either way, imma try to use the droid boot animation images + this to create one for our screens. Let's see how this works out lol.
Here this is wht i came up with lol. U can always make the images exactly like the original (as in the droid eye to be smaller n wht not) but i won't pursue it any further lol

first sorry for my english...
and second thank you very much for the first droid eye's live wallpaper working on my dream G1
it's not the same as the ortiginal but it's work...
great job
Hey all,
i'm currently designing a new theme for Sense ui, however i've managed nearly all of it, but when i recolour text input boxes and save them they look fine, however when on the phone they loose all resolution. become blocky and distorted. if i put the original images back, then they return to the original high resolution, how can changing their colour affect there resolution?
any help welcomed/
Luke.
does no one seriously know why? could it be PNG format? any ideas really appreciated.

That happens to all .9.png files!
They need to be patched with draw9patch, which u can find in the sdk tools!
You also must use eclipse to recompile the .9png's after you use the draw9patch tool. Search Google for great tutorials on how to use both.

Here's correctly sized version of "Google Gears" -bootanimation.
adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local/
or use root explorer (or other root capable file manager) to copy the file under /data/local/, set permissions and reboot
Edit: now re-drawn version with larger Google-logo + gears: 19.12.2011
Not really sized correctly. The image is, but the animation and "Google" is too small. Use some of that giant screen.

Well... streching the stuff bigger would make it blurry. Maybe I'll re-draw the whole thing, shouldn't be too large task to complete.

I just stretched in GIMP. It looks fine. But I don't really have a way of keeping it where it is, and just increase the size 50%.
I SCALED to 150% and i think it looked fine. Good job tho.

Are you using Root Explorer? This is the easiest way to change your boot animation if you're not too familiar with it.
Your issue might be with where you are storing the file. My boot animation is located in /system/media and not /data/local. Try renaming the original bootanimation.zip then moving the respective boot zip file to /system/media
Oh yeah, at least with 403 roms the correct path seems to be /system/media

So I've actually never made my own boot animation before, and my Nexus isn't yet rooted to try this myself, but it seemed like a cool project to redraw this one from scratch at full 1280 x 720, 60fps, with a bit larger gear logo (and I'm bored). If someone's willing to check out my modification (attached) and let me know if I've modified things correctly (the desc.txt, in particular), then here's an attached freebie.
EDIT: Here's a modified version that should look spiffy! Zipped the first attachment incorrectly, but this one I've tested (at a reduced size) on the Fascinate running ICS, and it works perfectly.

has anyone tried this on a GN?
Works perfectly in Galaxy Nexus. Thanx
Loving this little animation, thanks.
I am absolutely in love with this.
simple and elagant.
The only way It can be improved imo is if someone moves the google logo in this animation to the exact same position as the google logo that appears before it.
I'd do it myself but unfortunately I lack the expertise!

It looks really great on my Zopo C2, with full hd resolution.
Thanks!:good:
I know this is the GNex thread, but I have not been able to find this for the 2nd gen Nexus 7. Now I know it has been some time since this thread was updated, but I was wondering if anyone would be willing to make this animation compatible with my N7... The current one looks nice, but is just way too small. Great work, though! If I could root my RAZR Maxx HD, I'd love to use this as well if I could!
Thanks in advance to anyone who does this!
Edit: I also put a request in to the following thread; if you resize it before anyone there, please do post it. Thanks!

Can someone please modify this jpg and add a small apple icon first in the line of evolution. I want to make this my lock screen.
Thanks
Joecr250r
Here you go. Hope that works for you.
Edit: Ok, re-did the image using a 1920x1080 image pulled from Google. Saved the resulting file as a .jpg with the following dimensions - 960x800... that way you have the option of either having it centered or having the full image as you move from page to page.
I've also attached a screenshot with the image centered. Luckily... I managed to get it to fit on the first try.... yay.
Please note, if you decide to use the full picture instead of just the image center when you add it as your wallpaper, make sure you have an odd number of pages to scroll through and that your home page is the center page otherwise, the text will always be off and never centered.
Lol good one!

Oh stop complaining and just say thank you.
Not at all unappreciative of the jpg. Just asking if anyone else had the same issue with the image.
thanks
The original source that I used that was attached to this forum appeared pixelated to me. That is what I used to work with. I can try finding a better source to work on and maybe the outcome will be less pixelated. If you know where I can find a better source... that would also be helpful.
Edit 1/31/12: Nevermind... I found one. I will give it another go today.
Sorry about the original image. I took it strait off my phone so I thought that it would be good. Thanks so much for the rework.
There you go.
I uploaded two of them. One with the apple slightly tilted which to me makes it look like it was discarded. And one with the original request.
See screenshot from my phone showing where it fits with the stock clock on the phone.
Enjoy.
Not sure what is going on but they are extremely pixelated on my phone. To the point that its blurred out. Anyone else having this problem?
Here is a large version of the image. I have a version on my phone that is perfect with no pixelation. Here is the image details:
Dimensions 480x400
Width 480 pixels
Height 400 pixels
Horizontal and vertical resolution is 96 dpi
Bit depth 24
Size ends up being 9.31 KB
and its a .jpg
I hate to be a pain in the ass with this. I am very appreciative of all the hard work. Thanks again

Yes still running Blend... Love it! ICS Mms and the TSM by Maddoggins. I just tried it again and the same problem occurred. I download the image from here to my computer and then transfer to my phone. I will try the XDA app next. The total file size is way smaller than the original. I think that might be the problem.
Nope! I got it! Looks Great! I was having a complete ID10T error. I did not realize that I was just downloading the thumbnail and not the whole image.
Thanks for everyones help. I do appologize for my ignorrance.
I lowered the evolution image here so you can use it on the lockscreen and still see the clock, weather, etc.
