Its time that XDANDROID was properly branded. jk
I'd like to incorporate some creative works from themers and users on xda-developers. And so if you've always wanted to contribute to XDANDROID but didn't have the technical knowledge well nows your chance.
Anyone can participate and i'm hoping to see alot of creative work. I'll be setting up a pole from a weeks time and will let you the user's decide which artworks are best and will be incorporated in the next build.
Here are some details:
Submit your wallpapers | boot animations for XDANDROID here

Nice
Good luck guys, I will try post something too but I have to enhance my photoshop skills
Because of my lack of photoshop skills here's an idea someone might want to try:
The Android droid actualy looks somewhat like a rounded capital A...
If you draw an XD emoticon on it's face, you have an XD Android
I think that this is a fantastic idea.
Comon peeps
We need some of your help guys.
I hate stock and we need cooler mods from a great community on xda
ill try to do something cool, but boot animation, what format should it be in? GIF? Flash format?
Cool idea!
Which resolution do you want for the boot animation?

The resolution is 512x256 and if possible provide each frame in png format. As the boot animation reads each image separately. The maximum amount of frames are 60 but you can do less than that.
Can't wait to see what you guys have to offer
You can provide a GIF image too, as i'll just rip it but it would be much easier if you provided the images separate instead of merged into a GIF
This is probably a stupid question but do the wallpaper sizes you asked for allow for the multiple-home-screen sliding of Android to work? They're the same size as the devices' screens, and I don't know if that means that it would only be big enough to cover one home screen without being stretched, or if Android does something differently with regard to setting wallpapers.
Also, the Hero boot animation is 217 frames long, does this matter?
And finally, I guess the animation should be able to loop (?).
Hmm, hard to do anything on only 60 frames. But here's a first draft at a boot animation. Any suggestions for improvements are most welcome.
I'll probably add another animation tomorrow when I have had time to get some better ideas.
At what fps does the animation play back by the way?
And would it be hard to replace the current bootanimation with a custom one? It would be nice to test the animation before submitting it to you.
That one looks great! If I had to be critical I'd say you could make the text colour more distinct from that of the background, but I love the Android
It's much better than anything I would have done... Do you have professional experience in graphics/rendering?
@lugiber: that's funny Good job
It's too bad I don't have skills in this area because I have a great idea. Something like an Android(pretty much pac-man) eating a windows mobile sign and leaving behind the xd-android sign behind.
Thanks for the positive reponses guys! I'll make "xdandroid" stick out more and update the animation.
Hehe, i like the idea about the android eating windows. I'll see what i can do.
I had some ideas in that direction but I wasn't shure if people would respond well to "windows bashing".
Here's an XDAndroid wallpaper idea I made - I know that it's pretty basic but I wouldn't mind some feedback

Nice one! How about making the background black? It's not filling the whole screen, (since that's how Android does it) So I think whatever's on the outside of the animation is black.

Nice! If you don't mind me asking, how exactly do you do that sort of thing? The only way I can think of is by lightening each frame separately, which would be both time consuming and probably quite messy.

haha looks like you both interpreted the requirements wrong or i wrote them wrong :S
I'd like it to be 512 width and 256 in height.
But other than that it looks good. If possible add some android in there doing something humourous ( not necessary but would be greatly appreciated )

hi all
inspired from this video i managed to create one of my own
its a simple 4 image combined fan
what you actually see is that fan spinning
i upload the images so you understand...
this is the android-logo-mask.png(if you cannot see just download it to your pc and open with photoshop)
and this is the android-logo-shine.png
the android-logo-mask.png image its our fan.. it wont move from is position
the android-logo-shine.png image is the lines that create the animation - it has to move!
i added these to framework-res.apk resign and all that reboot my phone and this is the result!
its work perfect..! well its a really lame animation but imagine what you can do with it
Especially if we can control the speed of android-logo-shine.png
regards
Roy
update:
well i just bring here this idea you can use it for a more complex animations or if one of the developers here can manage to control the speed of the "android-logo-shine.png" file it will be great
use this images to guide you and if you want the PSD just PM me its more understandable..
update:
PSD - http://rapidshare.com/files/271886641/boot.rar
Its so confusing!!!! O_O... lol how does that work?... its super cool...
If you use your g1 and move the pictures it gives that affect. Nice job way to go might use your idea if it isn't wrong with...ok???? Pm at [email protected]
well divided the image to 4 vertical lines that representing each frame in the animation (in our case its 4 frames )
the three first lines are blocked with a full black line that prevents us from see the three other frames
the 4th line are empty and seethrough so we can see only one frame each time
then when we move the image with the lines a little sideways the animation reveals

hmmm... I see... so the effect should actually slow down if you divided the image to 8 vertical lines... just make the 4 vertical lines twice as wide... especially if you seperated it to 12... which would make the 4 lines 3 times as wide... not sure if that will fit on the G1 screen though ... this was a very nifty Idea... I wonder what I can come up with with this idea... hmmmmmm ... thanks for sharing this with us
For those that wants to see this in action without downloading or installing it do this:
Open this thread on a PC
Click and drag the 'lines' image over the fan image
move it back and forth
You'll see the intended effect on most browsers that support drag and dropping images with picture preview.
Of course if you're fancy, you can just put the first image on top layer in photoshop and the second image on bottom and move the second (bottom layer) that way.
Looks awesome :]

ok smart guy... i gotta give you props. I would've never thought of that. A simple effective solution. Well played sir!
HAHA ... it is possible I was thinking about doing this from looking at my kids books it is a Zebra animation effect. In which the Vertical lines go over dots/lines it generates a movement/animation effect. http://flashfabrica.com/f_mov_obj/slitAnime/e_horse.html <= running horse. There are so many. And it is not hard to do I need to find the link to the software that enables this to be done with white and black images. Yet I don't have a lot of time at my hands due to work fulltime, go to school fulltime, and have a wife and kids all the other times.
EDIT: the animation technique is called SLIT ANIMATION google there are endless posibilities there is even a double slit animation technique.

hey man if you want ill send you the PSD of my boot screen you can change text fields as you like
The other day I read that awesome Tut on how to create a Boot Animation by kusotare [link] because of this I started creating a few animations. While doing this I would test them out by flashing them, I did not like this so I created an applet that will basically animate them for you... Its pretty simple code, I am sure anyone on here could do it(and im sure some one has) but I figured I would share it with anyone who wanted it.
All you have to do is extract the .zip into a folder, and when you want to test your animations drop 'android-logo-mask.png' and 'android-logo-shine.png' into the folder. After you put them into the folder, open(double click) 'BootAnimationTest.htm'. This will open up your browser and show you the animation.
Requirements:
-This requires that you have the JRE installed
-'android-logo-mask.png' should be 256x480(Other sizes will work, but the app will resize them)
-'android-logo-shine.png' should be 512x480(Other sizes will work, but the app will resize them)
If you want, until I make it fix it automatically you can
find dimensions of android-logo-mask.png n put those values in BootAnimationTest.htm
Click to collapse
Future:
-In the future I plan to make it were it doesnt matter what size your images are.
-Turn this into a full fledged theme tester!
Feature Request: If you have an idea that you want me to add to this let me know, and most likely I will do so.
Just added a Video!
Change Log:
V 1.02:
-Added buttons that increase/decrease the speed of the shine

Awesome, I will have it where it does it automatically though, among other things... I also think I may turn it into a Jar and have it launch in its own window.
Edit - those red dots, are actualy my name... what happened is that you resized it, so it shrunk the applet.

Yea, thats why I made it, I got tired of having to flash over and over to test mine.
Thanks for the kudos on my tutorial. I had a tough time doing it my first time around, and after six or seven hundred of my friends with G1s asked me how i did it, I finally broke down and did the tutorial.
On the other hand, I absolutely love what you've done with the applet. That will certainly make it easier for people to come up with something they'll really like instead of having to tweak-and-flash as most of us have been doing for ages. Excellent work!

How do you guys feel about the speed of the shine? I think I will add a button that will let you make it faster or slower
Helpful, fast and time saving tool...
This is really a great and helpful tool. Its a must have on the utility belt of all theme-er's.
Excellent work...
This is an awesome tool, it'll help me cut down on wearing out my NAND flashing theme updates over and over just to test the boot screen. Thanks a lot!
Edit: Just tried it out on one of my old non used boot animations I had, the 'animation' scroll should be faster in my opinion. I remember seeing it speeding by at least 2x the speed as the applet does it. BUT the buttons to increase/decrese speed would be ideal. Some people may prefer it slower, some fast.
Again great job on this, you saved a lot of trouble!

I understand it would be a 'rough draft' sort of thing considering the .9.png and such but really just to see everything 'together' before flashing it would be a welcome change than what we can do now.

Yea, I don't think it would be hard at all... It will just take me a while.
Edit - Ok, so I just posted the new build. This build just added the speed buttons. By the end of the week I hope to have a build that is a full theme tester up. I also think that later on down the road I will make this into a JFrame instead of an applet. Also, what is the deal with the .9.png?

.9.png are images that Android resizes to work in any situation. like the buttons. sometimes they are small sometimes they take up the whole screen. you have to sign them in eclipse for them to work right. check out this thread for a more detailed description of them and what it takes to get them working properly.
if you do make a theme tester I will have kids just so i can name them Burlyskink.
For theme and boot testing...did anybody see the news story about running an emulated Android os (complete with G1 skin) on a Windows PC?
It looks just like a brand new fresh stock G1 and it works. I wonder if that could test out themese and mods?

Are you talking about the standard emulator that comes with the official Android SDK?
I've made a new boot animation, and, unlike my last one, it was done in After Effects, so sizing it up for other Android devices shouldn't be too hard. It was inspired by Cyanogen's new boot animation, but I wanted something mod-agnostic. For laffos I've also included a new wallpaper. Bonus points if anyone gets the reference. Sorry to anyone that replied to my last thread, I've been ridiculously busy with school. Hopefully the promise of Evo boot screens is enough to make up for it.
Quick question, for those of you with Evos that may be interested: do you have enough space in /system for a larger boot anim? Getting this one to fit was a bear, but I have many more frames that make it look a lot smoother if there's space to include them.
Anyway, cheers, and I hope you enjoy.

NEVER MIND..... I SEE IT NOW, I'LL TRY IT
Just tried this out and while I and others surely appreciate your effort in creating this, its just doesn't look good on this device, the animation resolution looks really low. It kinda reminds me of the splash screens from old school keygen apps.

The white Google logo at the beginning when you turn the phone on.
All the other images I found are not of high enough quality.
This?
Yes. But the original one from the phone.
What's different about it?
The logo is bigger, and the resolution is 768x1280.
Is there anyway to extract the original one from the phone? I need it to be exact.
I don't think you wanna mess around with this since the so called boot splash is built in to the kernel. If you know this stuff, change it in your kernel at the high risk of a brick and if you're a noob like me, just let it be.

I tried other images I found on Google Images but the resolution are too small.
I enlarged and expanded to size but it makes the Google Logo blurry and the detail deteriorates extremely.
Is there a way I can extract the original image?

Wow. You're like one of those people that call tech support and give the most vague answers and descriptions turning what could have been a 10 minute call into a 2 hour call. It took two pages just to understand what you were wanting, lol. Ok, ok...now that i've picked on you, i'll be serious. To help you out in future requests, it's always best to give out as much info as possible. What is the request, what is it for. It's always best to give out too much information rather than too little.
I agree with another poster here. Just download a high res google logo and slap it onto a background the size you need. Gimp is free and can do just this.
Oh, also found this (just happened to be browsing in the boot animations thread. I haven't seen the animation itself, but it's the logo from the splash screen with 2 gears under it. I'm sure with a small amount of editing, you can get this to do what you want.

I don't see what the big deal is. He asked for an image and you guys all get into his business as,img what it's for. It doesn't matter, he just asked for the image.. you are the one making this complicated.
Now, OP you can probably find an image on google images or try to figure out how to extract it rom the splash image
