HTC Evo 4g - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello guys and thanks for the wonderful forum dedicated to Android. Is amazing I am newbie on the smart phones arena but I have good understanding of computer and stuff
I have read several threads in order to gather all info before posting. I think I have learned somewhat what I need but I would like confirmation of the steps I must follow.
I have an HTC Evo 4g from Sprint not in use that I would like to connect to my MetroPCS account.
I have rooted the phone using the Unrevoke3. I take is NAND flashed already.
Now reading this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=795182&page=110 Is my understanding I need follow this prep topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=8395950#post8395950 and then jump into the Metrodroid 2.2 ?
After that what ROM do I need? What kernel? Then after that I must add the ESN to Metro ?
If this procedure is correct please let me know if not I will love to have some guidance I think I am close to complete the task.
Thanks again
Pifive

I personally have no idea. I know metro can flash a cdma over to their network but as far as a rom to use with it, i'm at a loss.

Hello just giving a small bump see what directions should I take or what I posted above is in the correct order of what I should follow?
Help appreciated.

I, too, would like to assist, but I don't know anything about MetroPCS or setting up the EVO to work with it. Sorry.

[Q] New Evo 4g and Android user

Hey im new to the android and just got the evo 4g couple weeks ago...i rooted it using unrevoked3 and dont know exactly wat imsupposed to do or wat i can do with itand how...i have read about it and wat i can do but i get confused with all the files and codes...I would ask a friend but not one of my friends have an android or at least rooted one so if anyone can help at all id appreciate it thanks.
Welcome to the family.
I would start off by browsing around the Evo specific forums, there's alot of good information contained there in regards to what you can do with your newly rooted superphone.
If you have specific questions, there's a good chance that someone else has asked the same thing. Before you start any threads asking questions, use the search function and see if the topic has already been covered elsewhere. Otherwise, you'll get flamed.
Personally, I've installed the Fresh Evo 3.5.0.1 ROM on my Evo, with the MattedBlues theme on top and currently using LauncherPro instead of the stock HTC Sense. Also, I'm using a custom kernel. I've found that setup gives a great compromise between performance and battery life.
Good luck!

Question; Evo on Boost Mobile?

I've searched high and low, and found no definitive answer on how to get an HTC Evo working on Boost Mobile. Just a bunch of threads pre-2011 with flaming, some people saying it's impossible, some saying it's not and their phone works just fine with Boost.
My phone has been both rooted and carrier unlocked. Clean ESN and all that good stuff.
I need to know:
1) Is there any specific ROM I need to have to use Boost? If so, what is the link for that?
2) What PRL should I be using, and again, where can I find that?
Believe me when I say I've been searching through countless threads to find the answer. All there is to be found through searches is a pile of flaming.
Any help is much appreciated. And again, if there are threads on this, I certainly wasn't able to find them.
bump, someone help out a Marine?
You can use any rom with boost and you can use the latest sprint prl. The information needed to connect to boost is not at the rom level and boost uses sprint network so use a sprint prl. However you can't flash new radios without messing it up I believe. Roms are ok.
Wonderful. Thank you for the help!
You can flash nv/radio/pri without messing up your setup.

Some people can do it you have know the right folks people have to many theorys on if its legal issues and such. Cause it's way cheaper . That's why Google doesn't have to much info on it kinda like cloning esn and such .

how to unlock simlock?

can i use this method?
[TOOL][VIDEO] One click Radio S-OFF, SimUnlock (Easy Root & S-OFF Guide)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537
i highly doubt it seeing as the EVO isnt a gsm/SIMCARD (att, tmobile, simple) phone... its all CDMA/NO SIMCARD (sprint, boostmobile, cricket, metro, pageplus, etc) So u are able to unlock programming and activate to another CDMA carrier...whole other ballpark
To the best of my knowledge, no. The Evo has no simcard, so you can't unlock what it doesn't have. Just for future reference, this type of post should go in the Q&A forum rather than here in development. XDA tries to keep threads in here limited to active ROM development, ports and How-To guides. You will also get a more thorough answer to your questions over in Q&A, since people with knowledge will be in there looking to help with stuff like this. Posting in the correct forum will also keep your blister count down as you won't be getting flamed by the forum trolls. Hope this was at least a little helpful!
Pierceye that was awesome explaining how these forums work instead of blasting the guy. Way to often people around here are quick to jump someone's ass, some of us around here haven't lost our decency and remember we were all once new here.

Thanks twice! Trying to encourage a bit more civil attitude. Seems a shame to drive new people away before they even learn the ropes. No new people means no new ideas=Bad for ROM development!

[Q] Evo 4g flashed to Metro Internet Help.

Alright, I tried looking up info on this for about 2 days. I seen the guide but I can't find a CDMA Workshop and I really don't want to pay $108 for the program when I'd only use it once. I'm just at a wall here.
Anyway, I have a EVO 4g running metrodroid, Calling and mms works fine and all that. Like I said I went to follow the guide to try and get the internet working but I can't find that program. My question is if there is another way that I didn't see or something of that sort. I'm sorry if I seem really noobish. I come and look at this site alll the time and it's been a big help for me in the past but I just don't know what to do.
I would post a link here but, I'd be violating the forum rules. What I can say is to look for cdma workshop in youtube they have videos and links in description. Hope that helps.

[Q] Will trade personal assistance for used HTC EVO3D

Not sure if this is allowed or if any knowledgeable dev would be willing! I would gladly trade my old HTC EVO 3D and a HTC HD2 (with Android) for personal help rooting and putting the best custom ROM on my T-mobile Galaxy S4 m919. I have only ever rooted a device once and I do not feel comfortable rooting this device. Understand that I will do the work, I just need step by step for dummies. And maybe fb chat or sms support. And possibly a link to the files. I've read several posts and they tend to get quite a bit confusing.
I would like the most recent ROM with microSD read/write capabilities and everything else working as it should. Although I have rooted a device before (successfully), I don't feel comfortable doing it by myself again. Since T-mobile ruined my GS4 with KitKat 4.4.4 and the 5.0 they plan to release doesn't seem to fix the sd issue, I figured root was the only way to go.
On my word, I will mail these phones out upon successful root and custom ROM! If your interested, please email me at [email protected].
NO BRICKING PLEASE! But Givin the experience of most devs and chefs, I'm not too worried there. I figure I'm the only one who would cause that. (I'm good at following instructions to a tee).
If this us not allowed, I'm sorry, feel free to delete.
Thank you,
Don

I didn't think I was going to get the assistance I was looking for. But one Senior Member stepped up immediately and went above and beyond my expectations! I knew there was a reason I joined xda-developers.com so long ago! It's refreshing to know that this website is full of members that are willing to step up and help out us, technologically challenged, and don't keep their knowledge to themselves. Thanks brian117. look forward to when I can return the favor for some other NooB!
