Seidio ACTIVE Case Review - Atrix 4G Accessories

I received an ACTIVE case from Seidio recently and it was for the Motorola Atrix 4G. Well being a case from Seidio, it had to be something good packed in it.
The package was nicely fitted into an average sized package and it contained an instruction pamphlet and the case itself. No pictures here sorry =(. The case is consists of a 2 piece design where the 1st piece is a silicon based glove and a harder backbone would be attached on to the back to strengthen the case.
Here's the case compared to the other cases

(from left: Otterbox Impact, Motorola Atrix, Seidio ACTIVE case, Otterbox Commuter)
Size : The Seidio ACTIVE case had the slimmest appearance among all the other cases and it was the lightest among them too. The Otterbox Impact was the bulkiest followed by the Otterbox Commuter Case.
Looks good!
Closer view on the top section of the ACTIVE case. There is even a small curve at front camera. Nice one there Seidio!
Front View: The Seidio ACTIVE case covers the sides of the Atrix and has a groove to enable users to place the phone face down and would prevent the screen from getting scratched. However, it is noted that there is no protection on the top section of the phone unlike the Otterbox Commuter. I personally preferred the one without because on the Otterbox Commuter, there was a noticeable amount of dust getting stuck at the earpiece and the front camera. Getting them cleaned was a hassle compared to the ACTIVE case which is much easier to clean.
Back view: Back side of the case. It resembles a fish bone type of design and there are hand grips on the sides which gives a nice secure hold when it is held. The finishing on the back section was also a joy to touch as it was slightly rubberised but still strong enough to withstand impacts.
The earphone jack area and finger print scanner had their own openings. As expected, the case is quite a dust magnet but it is negligible as I found it quite easy to wipe it off. I've yet to find a case which does not attract dust at the moment.
The jacks were left exposed as well. Probably this is to reduce the weight of the case and ease accessibility to the ports. Makes plugging the device in and out from the cable easy =). The rubber grip on the back adds extra functionality by preventing the phone from sliding off the table as well.
Here's another shot where the finishing of this case could be much improved. Guessed it is from the molding process.
Final thoughts: The case from Seidio did not fail to impress me. Protection was great as it felt really solid and the fittings were perfect. The looks were pleasant to the eyes and not too large unlike some cases where you would look like carrying a little rock with you. The only thing that I hoped could be improved was the finishing of the product and it could be molded better. Product well worth the $ 29.95 price tag. Blows all the TPU cases or cheap branded silicon cases out of the water.

Nice review!
I take it that it has a silicone feel to it? I hate the texture of the Ottorbox plastic bits, reminds me of nails on a chalkboard.

Yup, very nice review. Case looks nice but I already see hairs sticking to the silicone. Looks nicer than Otterbox though.

Seidio and the Car Dock
Does the Seidio case have to be removed for the phone to be placed into the car dock? I currently have the Body Glove case from AT&T but am looking for something a little different.
Thanks,
JAFO

This case looks pretty nice. Anybody know if they have a store where I can actually pick it up from though?

The harder shell of the case feels like the back of a SE xperia x10. hard but slightly rubbery feel while the other parts feels like the otterbox silicon.

@jafo5236 , not sure as I do not have the car dock with me

but in the pic the active and the commuter look the same size, yet you said the active is the smallest and the commuter is the second biggest?
am i missing something here? >__<

somehow it looked slimmer when it was placed on the atrix :S

These kinds of cases look too "industrial" for my taste. They seem to serve a purpose if you are putting your phone down in hostile environments but my phone is either in my holster or on my desk next to me.

Does anyone know if this case works with the laptop dock?

I just received this case and I love it. It fits my hands nice and has a great feel to it.

The only two cases I have found that fit in the car dock are
1 - Motorola Ruggedized Battery Door, fits perfect in all docks with the little shim removed.
2 - The butt ugly Body Glove that AT&T sells for way too much money, I bought one too.
I have also tried the Seidio Active, a very nice case with great protection, and the Seidio Surface, preserves some of the slimness of the phone while giving some protection.

I've had this case for a few weeks now. Has anyone who owns one noticed any peeling on the silicone part? At the top of mine is has started to peel a bit. Is this normal?
Edit:
Here's what it looks like. I take good care of the phone too and have never dropped it. This is just from basic use.

Mine sees daily use as a gaming pad for a 3 year old and I've seen no problems.

Surface II or active

This is my final question about a case for my Evo, Im down to the Seidio Innocase II Surface and the Active which case will be the better choice? I red a couple reviews about the active not fitting correctly and i heard horror stories about the surface scratching the edges
I love my blue Seidio Innocase II Surface Case (looks purple on amazon)... Fits tight, no play. I have to go slow when I put it on so that I don't lift up the edge of my invisashield.
I think my case is the active and I hate it. The back has started to peel and a corner broke like it came unglued. I'm going to get an otterbox instead I think.

Looks like you have the innocase active limited edition, available only through amazon. I have the same and the plastic skeleton doesn't fit 100% perfectly, but it's not bad. I too had some clips (top and bottom right) break off, but mine gets banged up a lot while i'm at work so I wasn't too surprised.
The regular innocase active looks like the skeleton has been enlarged to prevent the clips from breaking.
I just ordered an otterbox commuter case and a seidio innocase rugged combo.
Personally, I like having the combo of a hard shell with the soft cushion of the silicone.

I had the exact same thing happen, but sedio did honor the warranty. Just a thought.
I bought the PT brand from Best Buy today and I believe it is the same as the surface. It is made by Seidio but labeled differently.
I love it. Doesn't add much bulk and feels good in the hand.
Well maybe I'll give them a call about the warranty. I like the overall case design just disappointed in the flaws I've had with it so far. Thanks for the heads up.

I'm in the same boat, my rugged has had the corners break off both on my case and my wife's.
I don't think I want to pay for the shipping to replace it through warranty though...I think I may just wait for TridentCase to make a Kraken case for the Evo.
Well, just got the seidio rugged case today and i'm really not impressed. Basically a larger version of the active limited edition. The plastic skeleton seems better quality though. Cheap port covers. My suggestions to seidio: take the rugged and shrink it to fit without the surface. Then make the belt clip so the phone can be inserted face in AND face out and reconfigure the top latch to be smaller/smoother.
Long story short, I switched back to my active limited while I wait for the trident cyclops and the otterbox commuter cases that I ordered to arrive.
Ps: I noticed that the exoskelleton from the rugged fits PERFECTLY over the one from the active limited.

No problems with my innocase active I got from eBay, I've seen a lot of people complaining about the limited edition one Amazon sells, very happy with mine though, and ebay had it cheaper than seidio's website. The otterbox isn't bad but only comes in one color I think.

Hate to be a bother, but anyway you or anyone can post pictures of their Active case? I'm on the fence about buying one, and if I do it'll be the Active case with holster combo.
Seidio says the camera does not touch any flat surface with the case, and it actually looks as if it doesn't add TOO much bulk to the phone like some others, and a couple of the Otterbox's I was looking at fall into that category.

The camera does not touch on a flat surface.
The case adds very little bulk, but it will sure seem like it does when you hold the evo naked after using it a while. Same for any case of this type.
I have the regular active (not the LE with smaller outer shell) and the rubbery outer coating has worn off in the corners like in the pics of the LE that were posted. I'm sure this is due to my using it in a snug leather case, and is confined to the corners. No big deal to me. You can only tell if you look closely.
As far as fit goes, it is snug and well designed. Button use is as good as naked. Only complaint is dust builds up slowly on the left side where the outer shell fits into the soft inner layer. I take it apart and rinse the soft layer off every couple weeks.
My phone has taken several 3ft drops (off desk, out of shirt pocket while tying shoe lace) and is completely unharmed.
Is it the best case in the world? Maybe not, but it is comfortable to hold and protects the phone very well.
If this one were to break, I may try the otterbox but I'm not parting with it any time soon.
The pictures on Seidio's web site are better than what I could send you.

fanboy much?
I have the New Blue/Black Active Case and i LOVE it it fits perfectly its easy to take off if you need to swap batteries or put it in a dock, the new STyle Active is very durable doesn't crack easily.
Ive had mine for months now and the only visable issue with the back is where the Seidio name is its rubbing off from being set down and rubbed against other than that it's great it fits perfectly doesn't shift no gaps nothing.
the pictures they posted for the active in the beginning of this post is from the Active LIMITED it was their trial run before they changed it to the new Style

I got this one as well. Had it for my Captivate too. Works great and doesn't stick to your pocket lining.
I think the Incipio Feather case should be very thin. Available from them directly or I'm hearing in Radio Shack too.
We have that same case on the wife's iP4 and it adds almost no bulk to the phone. It probably doesn't provide much shock resistance like the Otterbox cases, but prevents scratches and makes it easier to grip.
I purchased a smoke TPU case off of EBay; should be here today or tomorrow. I've used a TPU case on my EVO since about 2 weeks after I had it and I love the feel and the slimness of the case, and the fact that it provides a bumper of sorts to keep the screen from lying on surfaces (unlike the Incipio case).
The one I purchased is item 290530353216 (chose that one due to the seller's location being near to me, only reason really).
If you have prime with Amazon, the case 2 posts above is only $2 with 2 day shipping
http://www.amazon.com/EMPIRE-Black-...LKO4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1298653527&sr=8-2
Can you still dock the phone with the body glove?
The body glove case works with the car dock perfectly. It's a great case. Not to rubbery and not to slippery, just right.
any TPU case is the way to go. rubbery and protective, but not too rubbery to stick in your pocket and not come out.

Cross posting this from the Incipio thread:
Just scored the Incipio Feather case (in black) - we're already using one on our iPhone 4, and I really like it. I wanted something to cover the back/side, provide better grip, and maybe offer a touch of drop resistance, but that's secondary.
The material is super thin, like 0.5mm or thinner, it basically adds no bulk to the phone. It does come with a screen protector, but I doubt I'll use it, I'm pretty gentle with my phones and they're usually just in my pocket (and I keep my rusty nails and broken glass in a +different+ pocket). Plus the design isn't edge-to-edut
The fit is tight, really clean, the ports/buttons are easily accessible. It uses that popular "soft touch" type material, which has an almost felt like surface. We have a Speck case that's like this. The nice thing vs. silicone is it's grippy, but it doesn't attract dust ~n~ gunk and wipes clean. It also isn't so sticky that it's hard to get out of a pocket!

The Body Glove does not work with these docks. It will fit (extremely tight), but the thickness of the sides of the case near the HDMI and microUSB ports keeps the phone from sitting all the way down on the dock. The end result is that it doesn't trigger or power the device.
I ended up returning my dock because of this.
+1 for the Incipio feather. Its the right mix of style and protection in the this case range. I dropped my phone about two feet this morning, and the feather was more than adequate to protect it.

Review (pictures): Body Glove snap-on case with Kick Stand for Motorola Atrix

I bought this case after trying out the Otterbox Commuter & Incipio Feather. I still have them, but don't use them as much as the Commuter gathers dust easily & the Feather doesn't afford too much protection. A good compromise is the Body Glove Snap On case with Kick Stand. It's a solid case with a rubbery, textured material that doesn't attract dust. The grip is solid and the case appears well built, just like the Commuter. In fact, I suspect that this case may be able to do a better job than the Commuter for protection against drops and knocks.
It's more than just a case, as it comes with an adjustable Kick Stand, which allows the phone to stand upright or slanted on it's own (portrait & landscape). The stand is built into the rotating clip, so you don't have to worry about losing separate parts of a multi-purpose accessory. The kick stand allows for multiple viewing angles in portrait mode and 2 angles in landscape. The clip is also well built, and "clicks" into various positions solidly. The Clip can be mounted and released quickly. The knob for the clip can be removed and the hole is covered up by a supplied accessory, for a low profile look. Hence, this case is quite versatile in it's use.
I would say that the Body Case is slightly less bulkier than the Otterbox Commuter and bulkier than the Incipio Feather. It's a substantial case like the Commuter, so it may not be suited for folks looking for an ultra low profile look. Putting the case together is quite easy. Taking it apart is difficult on first try, but becomes quite easy after some practise, once you figure out the points to pivot your fingernail from.
All in all, quite a good case that looks sharp; has a low profile (for a tough case); well built & has a great grip with a built-in kick stand. Pictures:

To bad you need to use a belt clip to use it with the kickstand.

CASES
I usually buy a lot of different cases for every phone I own. I had a body glove case for a previous phone and tore it apart trying to get it off the phone. I now have the Feather case for my Atrix and like it since it has such a low profile. Wish i could find a similar case without the rubbery texture. I had one such case for my Captivate that i liked a lot...it was my favorite case though it scratched very easilly.....Thanks for the great pictures of the body glove case.
thats pretty cool case, it would be nice to see it look like carbon fiber instead. I'm a big fan of that.
I like the Body glove mirage case.
Nice case. I echo the sentiment that sucks that the kickstand has to be with belt clip on only. But the Body Glove case for the Captivate was nice, I am sure this one is no different quality wise.
Otterbox defender also has a kick stand
I'd like a kickstand but that design doesn't tempt me at all. Considering how easy it (seems like it) would be to just make a replacement for the stock back cover, I think there could be a lot of clean looking "cases" for this phone. I know it would be more difficult than the cases that just fit around, but still seems like there would be enough demand to justify it.
body glove
What bothers me is the difficulty of removing the cover to change batteries. I had a body glove case in the past and destroyed the cover trying to take it off it was so tight and hard to get off. Also, this case has no protection for the earphone and sides jacks so dirt and dust could do damage in the long run. Having said that I do like the looks of the case and the kickstand which looks very sturdy.
I have a commuter case that I like a lot. All the ports are covered and it offers good protection. I just took one of those $2.50 collapsing clips off ebay, trimmed it downed and epoxied it to the back of the commuter which may work great....its drying now.
I also have on of those metal cases that has a clip that works great as a kickstand. The case itself looks good (black metal) but not good protection for the phone if dropped and not comfortable to hold in your hand.
Overall the Otterbox cases offer the best protection.....the defender and commuter.
In the meantime the new android phones coming out offering faster processors and larger screens may make this a moot point in the future.
i have this same one but i dont use it much makes my phone feel heavy evan though its prolly less than a pound lol

Incipio Faxion... anyone own this case?

This is a new case offered by Incipio I already ordered mine I was just wondering if anyone has this case because I've searched the forums and found not anyone has mentioned it. I like tpu cases but I like the feel of polycarbonate. This case is probably similar to the Spigen NGP neo hybrid, which is what I was waiting for but I can't wait any longer. So let me know what you guys think about it if you own it.

I had a commuter for about 24hrs... Now on a silicryllic and couldn't be happier. I have no kids, no real damage to any device but an iPhone that fell completely face flat onto hardwood @ 4ft and shattered into 100 pieces in an incase slider.
Otterbox Commuter
Pros
- Tough as hell! It seems overkill for my everyday use. People with defenders must play baseball with their devices.
- Dust covers will keep things cleaner.
- Flash, Camera, speaker are seperate cutouts and deep.
Cons
- Added way too much thickness IMO. I don't remember my iPhone 3GS in a case being this thick...
- Plastic is SLIPPERY. You need such a tough case because you'll be dropping it more than naked.
- Plastic came down the sides further than I would like, so you're holding onto it's slippery face, and not the rubber near the screen face.
- Buttons are terrible to press, way to hard.
- Damn near impossible to remove. I like to remove mine for cleaning once a week or two, and switch out with a thin hard shell depending on my day.
Incipio Silicryllic (Should note I've had this on two other phones now, but been happy with it's durability on them)
Pros
- Slips into pocket very easy.
- Isn't too thick
- Adds side grip over stock
- Looks much better, frankly more grown-up too.
- Slightly easier to hit the home button
- Around $10 cheaper than Commuter
Cons
- Probably not as protective as the Commuter on big drops(Based on a GNex and Titan, It's still very good, better than a TPU, hard shell, etc)
- Flash, Camera, Speaker opening is one large hole, easier to get the lens if it's lands on a protrusion.
- no port coverings
- Silicone can catch dust, but a quick wipe takes care of anything visible with it's clean lines.
This thread was about the Incipio Faxion guys not other incipio cases
Got my faxion case.. And I like it... It is thinner and lighter than the sycrillic and has good drop protection. It is in between a two piece case like sycrillic and a tpu case.. The polycarbonate back does scratch up fairly easy. I have the blue and Grey case. The white might not show up as much. I will post pics if I get the time.
Oh dang I never noticed this was a TPU/Polycarb case . How sturdy is the TPU core around the top and the bottom of the phone? I recently got the Silicryllic case and I don't like how loose the top and especially the bottom where the USB mini port is. It feels like that area might tear sooner or later.

While silicone does tend to be a little more flexible, I've never had even a pure silicone case tear on me yet, and I've had versions for years on a phone and a 7" tablet (switched to a folio for the tablet, though - better screen protection)
IMO, I'd always prefer silicone over TPU in a hybrid case, since it both provides better grip (if exposed by the polycarb shell) and better shock absorption. I don't think I'd ever want a pure silicone case for a phone ever again, though, since while the extreme grippiness is great, it's a lint magnet and a pain to pull out of your pocket sometimes. Also, it's too easy for toddlers to rip it off.

A friend had a simple silicone case on his phone and had those exact problems as you mentioned with it being a lint magnet and how troublesome to put it in and pull it out of the pocket.
My family recently upgraded their phones to the Epic 4G Touch and I ordered some simple TPU cases for them and I found even though the grip is less compared to the silicone hybrid, just adding some bulk helps with gripping the phones. I like how the TPU cases are just a tighter fit around the phones.
We all have come from phones that were maybe 4+ years old so they were thicker and we didn't have to worry much about damaging the phone from a drop. I myself came from the HTC Mogul so it was a huge change in the thickness of the phone.
What about the body glove drop suit? Anyone seen this, or have any opinions on it.

Amazon Aduro Case
Aduro Shell Holster Combo Case, found on amazon.
I have had this case for a week now. I really like the styling and it feels good; however, it is a snap on case and i'm not sure how the top and bottom edges on the phone will hold up in a fall.
Kickstand Case
I'm also looking for a good case with a kickstand for the Samsung Galaxy S3. Wasn't sure if I should start a new topic, so decided to post here first.
I don't use a phone dock, so the size of the case doesn't concern me. Would like full protection. (top and bottom edges covered) Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you. (Can't post outside links, sorry)
Here are three that I've found. Does anyone know of others?
Case-Mate Pop Case W/ Stand
Concerns: Some of Case-Mates cases bulge out around the edges after a short while. I also wonder about the durability of the kickstand on this case.
Seidio Active with Metal Kickstand
Concerns: Kickstand does not support device in portrait orientation. (Not a deal breaker though). I've never owned a Seidio case, so I personally don't know how quality they are.
TALKonline ProGel SOLID Super Hydro Gel Case W/ Stand
Concerns: Same as the Seidio, I've never owned a case from this company, so I don't know about the quality.

I've got this one as well and love it.

I have a Case-Mate Pop.
Pros:
1. Fits great.
2. Rubber side grips are great.
3. Push buttons work with zero problems.
4. The case totally surrounds the phone (except for the ports).
5. Rubber extends above the glass, so you can place the phone face down.
Cons:
1. The kickstand only works with the phone in a horizontal position. It does not work when the phone is vertical.
2. When placed on a table face up, the plastic part of the cover rests on the table. So, the plastic gets scratched over time.
3. Not a huge deal, but I wish it had covers for the power and earphone ports to keep them clean.
I got a TPU/plastic one off ebay for $7.50 and am liking it. I posted it about it at the other thread... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28547621&postcount=17
I've been using the dry-application screen protector that came with it and so far so good. It doesnt cover the whole front, since the screen edges are slightly curved, but it works. I also was in a hurry so just put the screen protector plastic that came with the phone on the back before stuffing it into the case just to protect from wear marks, etc. It has a side-effect benefit of covering the camera lens w/o seeming to affect image quality.

Seidio makes some of the best cases on the market. No doubt about it. I don't know about their kickstands but their cases are top notch.
Thanks for the feedback. I found a few other kickstand cases, but I still haven't made a decision. Dont really like any of them.
I have the case mate so far it's good, but I only been using it for two days. Ill keep posted.

I have a Case-Mate Pop and a Seidio Active. The Active's kickstand is heavier duty and the CM's kickstand is flimsy, but it is functional. However, I would not necessarily say that the Active is a better cover than the Case-Mate. I like the Case-Mate more than the Active, but I use the Active because I need to hang my phone on my belt. I preordered a Trident Kraken.
Has one tried this case http://www.ebay.com/itm/Black-Hard-...140748?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item19d524cb4c before?

I bought this case and I kept it on for about 30 seconds. It really made the phone feel cheap.
Currently not being productive on my S3.
If youre just looking for the kickstand feature, I'd recommend getting FlyGrip, a tad bit pricey though.

I recently purchased Aduro Shell Holster Combo with Kick-Stand from amazon because my husband thought it'd be nice to have a holster... but anyway... im a bit disappointed in general. First of all, the packaging... maybe cuz im picky but i didnt like that it came in a plastic baggie. The kickstand seems cheap and easily breakable. One thing I like is it's pretty grippy cuz of the material. Don't think it'll provide much protection from drops though. We read some good reviews on amazon, which is why we purchased but... it's mediocre at best imo. But my husband likes the back, me not so much. Here are some pictures:

I just received the same case although it was branded as a "JKase" and was 5 bucks cheaper than the Aduro branded one. It's actually pretty good and the holster also seems okay. I'm not sure of the sturdiness or longevity of this case and holster but so far so good.
