[Q] How to unbrick my Epic? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Coming from Bonsai 4, followed instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1082783, it would either hang on FACTORYFS, hang on SetupConnection or just fail every time.
So far I've tried:
- Redownloading pit & .tar.
- Tried different USB ports, ODIN only finds one of 3 (laptop).
- Tried ODIN'ing with & without "Re-partition" checked, with & without "F. Reset" checked..
I've gotta have my phone for work.. so this sucks. LOL :fuuuu:

Make sure you cable is good I had issues like that got a new cable flashed it back to a stock system using odin and never really had problems since
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App

I've tried
- Different cable.
- Redownloaded everything multiple times.
- Different USB ports.
- ODIN and Heimdall.
- Different .tar files.
- Flashing back to an old ROM via ClockworkMod.
- Restoring via CWM.
None of which has worked thus far. ODIN won't find it unless it's on one port.. then that port always hangs in ODIN. Tried a different computer.. ODIN wouldn't find it on ANY of the 10 ports. :fu:
.

are you placing the .tar in pda or phone?

PDA. This isn't my first walk in the park. I've tried literally all variations that have been reported to work or have worked for me in the past.

meant no offense man. just was trying to offer a helpful question.
there is a link to samsungs eb13 upgrade tool here http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/sprint-ep...ng-epic-4g-official-eb13-android-2-2-1-a.html.
it has always helped me at least to get back to a point that i can get the OTA to ec05
hope that helps.

Did you try using the EB13 SWUpdate program? It tends to work for me, where ODIN fails...

EB13 stock and stuck on stock

Since my phone was giving me so many problems in clock work recovery I decided to follow the stock eb13 thread so I could start again with a clean slate. This worked fine.
However, now I can not get any of the one click roots to work. Keeps telling me that it can't find my phone. It is in debug mode. I have the samsung drivers. If I didn't I wouldn't have been able to use odin.
Long story short:
I need to get the one click root to recognize the fact that my phone is plugged in.
Did you use the Samsung tool? If so reinstall the drivers for OncClick. I ran into this too and that fixed it.
No, I actually used odin to do it. I still tried what you suggested and sure enough it fixed my problem.
Thank you.
Not a problem man!
Did you get it fixed???

If your not having a problem using odin the easiest method is to grab it all in one install. There is a thread in development section that will flash eb13 deodexed, clockwork, and root all through using odin. I would send a link but I'm not on my comp right now. Just look for the [stock flash] tag

[Q] EC05 tar File

What all needs to be used to flash the EC05 tar file from Mammon in ODIN? What settings need to be checked? Do we need to put in the victory_8G pit file and the EC05 tar file? Any help with this would be great! Thanks in advance!
The only option checked should be auto reboot. Yes you do need to use the .pit file, and the modem.tar file should go in the phone slot. Good luck. Im using it, its working fine.

OK so do this and there will be no data loss (I know, backup always) then flash the new ROM over the old right?
Don't know what is going on in the DEV section. Seems to be a war or something. And Bonsai thread keeps getting closed.

Yup, I did a nand backup and flashed the EC05 modem through ODIN and it rebooted back into the VIPERrom 5.0 and everything worked alright. I wiped 3X and installed Bonsai 4.0. Works fine.

Thanks, I only wanted the modem for now and never used odin. I always felt odin was a last resort if cwm ever failed to restore a nandroid, still never wanted to use it. Anyhow I still screwed up by putting the tar file under pda instead of phone, but thankfully it didn't matter....as I wipe the sweat beads off my forehead. :-D
If you flash a tar file it goes under PDA. .bin goes in phone. You did it right.

Just want to get straight to the point;
Brother did a bad flash, Phone doesnt come on at all. But odin still recognizes the phone. Tried flashing stock from xda. gets stuck on setup.
Again, if pc doesnt recognize my brothers phone you would think its dead, but odin does recognize the phone. Also tried using usb jig, nothing, tried recovery, download modes nothing... Any help is much appreciated.

My first step would be to re-download a stock rom and try to flash it multiple times (which i'm sure you already have done). I know when I had a bad flash back to stock and got a completely black screen, it took me quite a few flash attempts to get it to flash correctly.
ok will do.

I had a similar issue and I managed to recover it by flashing just the stock UVLH1 kernel.
There was also a PIT file packed with Odin which I removed before flashing the Kernel.
I know this is a basic question but did you run Odin as administrator?

[Q] Initial rooting fail. Please help!

I'm a newb at rooting, so please bare with me. I currently have the Sprint Epic Touch 4G with firmware 4.0.4 and build FL24. Last night I tried to root my phone with the ODIN 1-Click method. Being the newb that I am, I didn't realize that I downloaded the FI27 Kernel from rwilco12' site.
So booted my phone into Download/Odin Mode. Started the 1-Click ODIN kernel and plug my phone in. The root process started but failed after a few minutes. Now, everytime I boot my phone up, I get an error message "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue..."
I'm at a loss at what I should do. Thanks in advance for any help!

If your phone boots into anything, all is not lost. Have you tried the one-click again? Sometimes it doesn't take. Read the directions you're following very correctly again, reinstall the one click. And in the future, read, check, read again double check, and never stop reading. We were all noobs once, just takes patience, trial and error, and alot of reading . Good luck!

Have you tried different ports, cords? Try a different oneclick? If you're flashing the same oneclick and keep having issues, might be a corrupt file. Download again using pc(not phone) or try a different stock oneclick. If all else fails, reinstall usb drivers, Kies, Odin, and start over ..Sucks, I know, but necessary sometimes.

Help! Bricked my brand new T-mo Galaxy S4

In serious need of your help here guys. I bricked my T-mo SGH-M919 today trying to root. Now I can't flash the stock recovery thru Odin. Tried a zillion times, uninstalled and reinstalled drivers restarted my comp, done everything I could think of still no dice.
I keep getting this Fail message in Odin saying " There is no PIT partition" tried to search for a PIT file for my specific model but couldn't find any. I even tried recovery thru kies emergency recovery and failed at the last step. Anybody can help me please.

Don't use and dont need pit file.
Find the stock shipped tar file (aka) 4.1.2 Rom
Load in pda leave everything checkedbin odin thats checked.
Rooting isnt hard at all just got my s4 3 hrs ago rooted in 5 minutes soon as I walked in the door.
You need the Root_m919uvuamdl.zip
And then flash MDB setUIDoff .zip
Then flash superuser.
Thats it.
If u have odin Booted its 1000% NOT BRICKED

Let me ask you one thing. .. is the com port in odin coming up recognize the phone ...if so you are not bricked. . The two vital things u need to see is com port turn on usually blue color and download mode..
The problem def lies somewhere else possibly bad tar file .
Try to find another source for the stock rom tar file another option is boot into recovery and flash a stock rom if you have recovery still

Well glad you got it.... but i still find it hard to believe any usb was the issue Usb recognition is usb recognition. .if odin seen the phone usb was working. ..its literally that simple... the problem initially explained was that the pit error was coming up... that all relates usually to a file error .
But glad it worked out and u didnt loose a 600$ phone.
