If you have gone through as many phones in your sig as you claim to you should be able to figure out by process of elimination how to install it, not trying to be mean but people round here just need to think more, its a recovery you install it the same way you install any recovery like when you first rooted your phone. Check the stickies prolly something in there to answer your question too.

I usually did rom manager. Too lazy for all the extraness. Thanks anyway.

Not every knows the other methods. But seems people in this community can't be nice enough to just explain a simple thing. With rom manager you don't have to do it. It does it for you. Just tossing up my 2 cents.

Good looking out oon this. Flashed it and worked like a charm.

Before you guys keep on flaming, rename to recovery.img, put it on the root of your sdcard, open terminal, and type:

I swear to god this knowledge should be a prerequisite before being allowed to post in the dev forums..

You don't get it do you?
This is FLASHABLE!
Without going into terminal, you flash it like a rom

Exactly. I didn't have to go through all the renaming nonsense for this. Just drop it on the root of your SD, boot into recovery and then flash. Simple.

He didn't try looking inside the zip. IF there's a meta folder it's flashable via recovery

LOL it's assumed when a recovery image is posted it is in the .img form, coz for a person first flashing stuff on their phone, they have to either flash a custom recovery thru Rom Manager, or the flash_image binary in terminal. It's impossible to flash a .zip without a custom recovery in the first place.
Just sayin...

Is there an overview of the changes in this version compared to the last?

I suggest people who want to know what the changes are learn to read github...

it's also probably assumed that any noob isn't going to be attempting an update of something they have no idea what it even is, or how to do so... for those that have a clue, they would know that all they need to do is extract the .img and place it on root of sdcard or whatever... just sayin...

Thanx for the Recovery & The laughs!!

What do you mean by "for those of you who missed wiping from recovery"? I wipe from recovery just fine on the latest Clockwork Recovery.
Why would you not take the short amount of time to list the specific changes in the OP for everyone?
Why would you not take the time to list simple step by step instructions for those who need them in the OP? (At least you added that its a flashable zip...prior to that there was no information whatsoever)
And I thought I was lazy...

all that has changed from koush's github is the ext support. So you want us to copy everything from his github and put it here with all the dates when and what he changed?

lol i gotta say.... whats new in this recovery? i looked at github and it dont seem too have much of a difference usage wise.... for basic users like me it isnt a "must update" right?
and, ROFL at all the people who dint get "flashable" xD

Where can I download a recovery.img?

I just did the alpharev s-off and now I want to flash the latest CWM recovery.
But, where is it? At Koush's website you can only download the .zip file,
not an .img file to permanently flashed to the phone.

The zip probably has the image in it. Alternatively you can just use ROM Manager to flash it. Free download in the market.

The zip doesn't have a .img file in it.
It has a file named recovery, but it doesn't have a file extension.
That's probably it, but I am unsure how to use this.
Also rom manager is not flashing the recovery to my phone.
It will let me go into cwm 2.5.0.7 via the old method.
But if I manually reboot into recovery I still have the same old version of cwm that alpharev installed
v2.5.0.1
i asked this awhile back as well.. and im still looking... Clock will not flash it cause it sees it as 3g slide and only does the update.zip method... and the zip contains what is needed but gotta make it into a img file

How can we make it into an .img?
I could probably figure that out easy enough, but would it work right?
Have you tried just using the update.zip from recovery and seeing if it sticks? I can't seem to dig up an actual image file either, which tells me that maybe there isn't one. More to the point, using the "apply update.zip from SD" option vice the typical select .zip from SD.

There is no way to (permanently) flash clockworkmod without S-OFF.
There is only one way to achieve S-OFF. It's not that complicated. You download an ISO CD image, burn it to CD, follow the instructions on the screen. Just read the S-OFF thread so you know what to do with the timing of hitting the power button on your phone.

you can't flash the recovery.zip or recovery file from inside the zip they don't work and will make your recovery not work.

!!!!!!******Please Read Before You Flash Another Rom******!!!!!! Cw 3.0.0.6

Over the last few weeks many of you have had problems with boot looping roms and not being able to restore a nandroid. 9 times out of 10 the problem comes down to being cw 3.0.0.5.
Our Q & A forum has been flooded with questions about problems that could have been avoided if people would simply take a few minuets to update their recovery. This is NOT something that is mandatory, but please save yourself as well as the people that take the time to fix everyones problems a headache! There are two simple ways to flash the recovery listed below. Thank you all for adhering to this request, it will be appreciated!
Option94, Zinx and Koush have taken the time out of their lives to put this new recovery together for all of us. So please remember to thank them!
I have attached a copy of the recovery to this thread. For those of you who have the eng SPL (0.85.2007) place the file in your AndroidSDK\tools\ folder and the run this script from fastboot
Fastboot flash recovery c:\AndroidSDK\tools\recovery.img
If you don't have the eng spl or if you are unfamiliar with ADB you can use TrueBlue_Drew meathod below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944681
You can also try flashing this version from your recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=555930&d=1301465416
You can find the original cw 3.0.0.6 thread from option94 below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952433
mod maybe u could sticky this for a few weeks
You're right that this gets asked a lot. It should be stickied!
You might want to add that you must have the engineering SPL (0.85.2007) to use the fastboot method. I can imagine people trying that and not being able to, and not knowing why.
There's already a similar sticky in the Q&A section.
Yep, thanks.
Rom manager will only flash version 3.0.0.5. This is version 3.0.0.6. This is still the needed recovery for the 2 different file systems.
Ok. Perhaps we do still need this. Maybe I haven't flashed enough ext3 ROMs...lol
nice of you to post this even tho 3.0.0.6 has been out for awhile now. been using for couple months

Yeah it has, and that's the whole point. Despite 3.0.0.6 being out for so long, people still aren't using it and have no idea why their ROM won't boot.
yeah, but its THEIR fault for not researching and reading thru the forum

I agree! However, THEM not researching leads to the same question being asked over and over, which means WE end up answering it over and over. So it's to everyone's benefit to be informed, and hopefully threads like this will help in that matter.
totally agree
I may have a better solution. Need to see if I can get a hold of koush though.
I wonder why ROM Manager doesn't have it yet. (I've been circumventing ROM Manager anyway and just flashing through fastboot.)

Because 3.0.0.6 was not created by Koush and is therefore not an "official" build of CWM. It was created by option94 and distributed on XDA.

[HOW TO INSTALL TWRP 2.2.2 via ADB] WINDOWS

5. Cut and Paste dd if=/sdcard/twrp2.2.2.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p22
hit enter...DONT TYPE THE WRONG NUMBERS HERE, YOU MAY BRICK.
You are now installing the Recovery TWRP 2.2.2, wait until
finished.
Press Cntrl+C then type the command adb reboot, or adb reboot recovery to double-check

Hey not trying to bash or anything and I think its cool you wrote up the tutorial although when looking for TWRP for our phones I saw the choice of using terminal or the app so I know the info is out there. I am just confused as to why you created a new thread when I feel your post would be much more helpful within the thread for TWRP 2.2 or in General.
Since this is not a change or an upgrade to the app it may or may not get that many hits and fall off the first page. But yes the information is rather important for those who need an alternative to getting TWRP on their device. I am not sure if you did but I hope you also posted in that thread your tutorial
Again not trying to disrespect you but trying to suggest in my way...:good:

Thanks! finally back to 2.2.2.0 what a relief. FYI, your DL link goes to team win's hercules page which only has 2.3.0 as far as I can tell. I got the .img file from someone's dropbox in the 2.3.0 thread. Also, the next comment in the thread linked a flashable zip with 2.2.2.0 which would allow people to skip the somewhat nerveracking command lines. Only question is, how do you flash it at that point? Certainly not from within twrp, right?
Don't mean to be a downer or anything but you do realize that PorchSong posted these exact same directions and they are a sticky in this forum?

help needed

hey ive really new to the world of android after moving from iphone and i need help. ive managed to root my phone have clockworkrecovery installed and working, but the problem comes when i try to install the liquidsmooth rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1911009) i clear everything but when i go to install the first part i get a status aborted status 7, please help any advice would be useful
What version of CWM do you have?
EDIT - After looking through the development thread for the ROM (which i'm going to assume you didn't) i found several mentions of your issue. The ROM devs confirmed my suspicion that the problem lies most likely in an outdated CWM recovery. Download Clockwork Rom Manager from the market and install the latest recovery version for your device, i'm going to assume its the AT&T SG3 but this is a guess since you didn't say what device you are using. Once the recovery is installed try flashing again. I'm going to make another guess and say you probably dont have a working OS on your phone either, if this is true you have 2 choices...you can either download the recovery from here CWM 6.0.1.2: http://db.tt/QHZZqecH and copy it to an external sd card and flash it from the the existing recovery OR you will have to flash a different rom that will boot up to get you to the market.
P.S. - In the future try to provide as much information as possible to help out whoever may be trying to help you. What phone you have, what rom you are on if any, what you have attempted in effort to fix the problem. The more info you give the easier it will be for someone to help you, and improve your chances of getting it fixed quickly.

Ok, go ahead to the google play store and search for clockwork rom manager, download this and install it. Once inside the app the top button will ask you to choose your device to install the latest recovery image, of course you are looking form Samsung Galaxy S3 AT&T. Once the download is complete it will automatically install, at this point you can click the reboot into recovery button and follow the OP for installing the ROM.
ROM manager for cwm recovery. You need to pay if you want touche recovery.
Or use the first method from my other post. Using goo manager from the play store to get twrp recovery. Which I prefer over cwm touch.
Either way are easy and depends only on what recovery you want

Yup, one at a time. No offense but two sets of instructions could be confusing to a new user. Get a working phone first, then go for the tweaks and experiment....a little at a time and carefully.
Haven't heard from him (or her) in a while, hope they are too busy checking our their sweet new ROM to let me know if they got it working
Let's hope so. One.....drawback....I guess in android is that there is usually 7 different ways to get to the same end result and that's what confuses most new users.....too many options :what:

Drawback or exactly the point depending on how you look at it i suppose. Thats the beauty and challenge of open source, which is why reading and understanding what you are getting into is emphasized so much....although seemingly hopelessly sometimes.

lol sorry i had just gotten home from work and somehow knocked out..i dont have any access to play store at the moment
Most custom aosp based ROM you need to flash gapps usually found in the op of the ROM thread.

[RECOVERY] TWRP Method for ROOT users

THIS METHOD FOR USERS WITH ROOT ONLY
There is now a TWRP supported for the LS980 which can be found here.
http://www.teamw.in/project/twrp2/197
click the sprint link and download the most current version
Here is the direct link to Sprint TWRP model from TWRP website
http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/g2spr
If you have ZVA firmware installed, please read this thread posted below before proceeding!!!!! You must flash zv7-aboot.img before flashing TWRP recovery since the zva-aboot.img does not allow you to run TWRP recovery. See thread below on the changes in the ZVA firmware.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2627765
Using terminal emulator to flash zv7-aboot.img on your phone
Code:
dd if=/path/to/your/zv7-aboot.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/aboot
Using adb to flash zv7-aboot.img to your phone.
Code:
1. Download the zv7-aboot.img file and place the zv7-aboot.img in the ioroot folder location.
2. Hold shift and right click in a blank area of the ioroot folder on your PC and select "open command window here"
3. Type adb push zv7-aboot.img /sdcard/
4. Type adb shell
(If you do not see a # type su and hit enter so that you see the #)
5. Type dd if=/sdcard/zv7-aboot.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/aboot
Once done with that place the .img or zip file onto your phone.
Once done with that go to the market and install this app on your phone: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cgollner.flashify
Then open the app and select recovery image
then browse to where the file is stored ( more than likely its sdcard . . .)
Then hit yep this is correct (if it is)
Done!
This method is for TWRP 2.6.3.2 not for the updated version of TWRP i recommend installing 2.6.3.2 and the using that recovery to install the newest one:
To to that place the openrecovery-twrp2.6.3.3.g2spr.zip on your internal sd
then load up recovery
press the install button
then look for the openrecovery-twrp2.6.3.3.g2spr.zip
swipe to install
ps: to boot into recovery manually press and hold volume down and then power and hold it down both buttons together and it will boot to TWRP
make sure to thank @leroybrute for the flashify idea
ADDITIONALLY when you have done this the very first thing that you NEED to do is go into TWRP and make a nandroid backup of your stock ROM. I have seen so many people lately not doing this and having major problems. This is very important!!!!
Latest official version of TWRP: 2.6.3.3
Please do NOT download and install any other unofficial versions of TWRP since help will be very limited.
As always, I DO NOT TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY for what happens to your phone. Please research and ask questions if you are not sure what you are doing.
Here are the adb and fastboot files you need. Extract this zip file into a folder and put your TWRP recovery image in this folder and follow the tutorial video.
WACOMalt's TWRP flashing method located here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2449670
You will need to download the loki tools which are explained in the tutorial video.
You need to download the Sprint TWRP file here: http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/g2spr
WACOMalt also posted a tutorial video on how to flash recovery using his method shown here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZSjL6FCyxA
What's the chance 4ext releases a compatible version?

I have not currently at the time of this posting flashed any recovery to my device (dont have adb set up on this pc) though there are a few guides for how to do it which can be found here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2449670
You will notice in that post that sprint is not referenced thats because it wasnt available at the time that WACOMalt wrote that post.
Again i didnt develop this method nor have i tested it yet but if you have please post and let others know what you did or what worked for you.

Flashify loaded this in to time successfully for me.
If you use the link posted in the op twrp files are already lokied so you don't need the tools.
http://www.teamw.in/project/twrp2/197
That is why once rooted you can simply use flashify from the market.
Boom all done!
As I mentioned in other threads.

I haven't tried the Flashify app but that looks like the correct app but I'll let jfenton57 answer that question.
Why are my posts in the last couple recovery threads being ignored? Been trying to show people a simpler way. In one thread I get knocked trying to help make installing twrp simpler and ignored in this one.

No you had the right guy, and I don't want credit. It is also the right app. This stems from your thread in general thread asking about recovery. I gave the answer in the second post with no credit. Instead got bashed in a sense and ignored.
I have had the Vs980 since release and since I got the Ls980 I thought I could help with what I have learned from there.
I also have wireless tether working on my Ls980.
But I think I will back out of the Sprint development.
Sorry about the whining.

Today is a hectic day since the Sprint subforum just created and I was just referencing existing threads that other variants have used for rooting and flashing recovery. I didn't even know about the Flashify app so thanks for giving us the heads up. None of us meant to ignore you but please don't take it personally. I didn't follow the Verizon thread too much and obviously I didn't even know about. Any lessons learned or easier methods to do stuff that you are aware of please continue to contribute to the Sprint development.
Since you mentioned it? Do you mind sharing how you got wireless tether to work on the LS980? I can create a new thread for wireless tether and will give credit to you and whoever else contributed to the wireless tether mod for the Sprint version.
Thanks to all that contributed ive got root and recovery

Lol I think that was his way of saying "this is what you get for ignoring me". Dangling information infront of us now and then saying hes not going to help the sprint forums.

Damn this has been the simplest phone to root ever and then to install TWRP this way was pretty damn cool too...
