I am running SkyRaider 3.3.3. My desire is to remap Rosie so that the center button will open the root folder in App Folders rather than my usual app drawer. This is because I have a lot of applications and having folder organization in my app drawer is a necessity.
I have searched and found a lot of threads about remapping, but none that give clear, step-by-step directions as to what needs to be edited.
I am likely trying to get into a project that's way over my head, but I would love to give it a shot and noodle with it in my free time. I just don't know where to begin.
Also, I am aware that this exact modification went into Uncommon Sense, which I have used and enjoy, but I would love to be able to change ROMs at will without losing this valuable feature.
EDIT: In an effort to try to figure it out by inductive reasoning, I have looked at the logs to see what events are triggered when I press the app drawer button, as well as the action I'd like to remap to that button. I then decompiled SkyRaider's Rosie classes.dex with baksmali and started digging around. So far, I can find absolutely nothing that makes any sense, leading me to believe this project is much, much bigger than I anticipated. I did get a laugh from the "UserHappinessSignals" file (the name, at least). I almost expected to open the file and find a list of words like "smile," and "laughter."
Alas, that was the one ray of sunshine in this otherwise massive and hellish undertaking.
The saddest part of this whole thing is that this exact thing I'm trying to do has been done in another ROM (Uncommon Sense). Mapping the exact same app (I installed the same modified version from Uncommon Sense 1.1) to the exact button I'm aiming for. I know the answer exists, and might not even be that impossible, but thus far, I'm stumped. Further, I'm lead to believe that Rosie.apk isn't the only place I'll need to work; I hear also com.htc.resources?
Honestly, if anyone can help me out, I'd be much obliged. I have put forth a great deal of effort thus far, but I'm realizing that effort without guidance results in a significantly higher ratio of time wasted vs. productive time.
Bump, with clarification.
I don't need or want to change the appearance of Rosie. I just want to change the event triggered when I press it.
I feel that should be at least a bit easier than an extreme cosmetic overhaul. Still beyond me, though.

I have no idea how to change the buttons but I do know a cosmetic overhaul would be a lot easier.

Not sure if this is what ya want but look up app folder in the market
I actually already have App Folders. Now the trick is integrating it into my Rosie launcher. Which is apparently seriously difficult.
Oh well. I'll keep plugging.

I'm pretty sure I can get this working for you homie.
you need to be on a stock DEODEXED ROM. this is a must, I deodexed teh latest Nov OTA with no name completely stock deodexed. here is a link - http://www.multiupload.com/2KS0OS60DR
then what you need to do is either take uncommon sense's ROM rosie.apk or it's framework-res.apk. I think you just need the Rosie.apk, if you pull the rosie.apk from the uncommon sense rom you know has it, and make it into a flashable .zip to flash in recovery. I used this method for mynwarms rosiesettings.apk which allows you to pick the left and right rosie buttons with an easy to use app. its mad kick ass. but hit me up PM we'll get you going.
@kensikora:
The issue is that there are a couple of areas that need to be changed depending on how you want it to look.
The buttons, mapping of buttons and icons are in the Rosie APK. the App Drawer information is also in the Rosie APK (transparent, black, 4 or 5 rows). The look of the dock is in the resources (transparent, button look, traditional arc or straight line, ETC).
I am sorry if I missed this, but could you please let me know EXACTLY what you are looking for:
This is what I have currently:
Left Button - Phone
Middle Button - All Apps
Right Button - Google Voice
The dock it a traditional Rosie that is Semi transparent.
It is possible to create a flashable zip for the Rosie only that will assign your button locations BUT will take on the look of what ever ROM you flash.
EDIT: re-read 1st post. I belive I suggested you check out the EVO thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=797688
if anyone can set up that center button to go where you want, he can.
The only change I really want to make is to have the center button open a modified version of App Folders instead of the usual all apps drawer, exactly how it works in Uncommon Sense.
I just really want to be able to try different ROMs instead of being tied to Uncommon Sense based solely on Rosie mods.

Now that i am rooted, i would prefer to use ADW launcher, can i completely and safely remove touch whiz?
I wouldn't. Just check the box to use adw as default. If you remove TW and for some reason ADW freaks out and doesn't launch, you will be hosed without the stock launcher.

touchwiz isnt just a launcher, it is built into samsung android versions. best to just leave it.
you are free to install and use any other launcher you want.
You'd need to flash an aosp rom to get rid of it.

Why would you want to remove it? You can have both TW and ADW at the same time.
If it were possible to remove it, it would b recommended to keep TW as a backup launcher for in case things break..

there are no ASOP roms for captivate glide... there are no roms...
ASOP is complete source build android for a specific device. there is no ASOP built for glide at the moment.
as i said in my previous post TOUCHWIZ IS BUILT INTO the android system on samsung phones.
that is why you cant just delete touchwiz. the rest of the rom expects it to be there.

yeah...true tw is samsung's overlay of android...BUT you can remove tw LAUNCHER without an issue. i can't remember the last time i had it included in a rom...but it is a good idea to have a backup launcher incase your main launcher commits suicide. get a lite launcher like go, and paste it in /system/app then if adw launcher decides to be a jerkwad, you're still good, and twlauncherless
Alright. I'll leave it for now.
I would be somewhat interested in this as well (removing TouchWiz).
Although, my reasoning has to do with a post I read somewhere about using the MAP Bluetooth Profile while using TouchWiz, and it not working (for use with the Ford M$ SYNC system in my car).
I just had a thought, if i remove it and ADW goes down, couldn't i just log into market.android.com and install another?

Just a scenario I've experienced. When we first got custom roms for the regular captivate, they were Samsung Roms just tweaked a bit. First thing I did was install ADW and then with Tubu I froze the TWlauncher.
I can't remember if ADW crashed or what, but for some reason one day after a reboot, ADW wouldn't launch. When the phone came up I was stuck in an endless force close loop and had to flash back to stock.
Save yourself the trouble and leave it. You're not going to gain much by removing it.

what is the recomended launcher ?
Remove TouchWiz Safely
Yes, TouchWiz is needed for a lot of apps to work properly and even for the alternate Launcher to work properly, as well. But i am pretty sure its running on the background when switched to a different launcher.
This is what i did to save the memory that TouchWiz has been using.
**Note: Before you start, its highly recommended to install Root Explorer to make things easy.**
Move your alternate launcher to System/app/ (i am using ADW)
To do this:
In Root Explorer, copy the apk file you want to put in /system/app
Navigate to the /system/app directory
Tap the Mount R/W button on the top right
Tap Paste
Scroll down to the pasted apk, long press on it and select Permissions (you'll see 9 check boxes when you do this)
Check the Read and Write buttons for User, and only the Read boxes next to Group and Others, then tap OK (once you're done, the read/write permissions under the app name should be the same as all the other apps listed (rw-r--r--
You Must Reboot the phone now.
Now, you have 2 launchers in your system folder, which is kinda safe.
Then navigate to system/app/ and remove TouchWizManager.apk (i guess this is the apk name, but you can recognize it with the icon if you are using Root Explorer)
Please use Root Explorer since, i forgot the exact APK name, much easier to use than Terminal or ADB shell.
Reboot again.
Now, TouchWiz will not run in the background, but all the needed touchwiz files are intact for the phone to work properly.
Hope this helps.

Recommended by me: Go Launcher.
I've tried various launchers and this one is just the best. Loads of features and customization options and very stable.
There is also a new type of launcher called SweeterHome where it's possible, through hard work, to customize nearly every aspect of the Launcher, AppDrawer and so on. It also has loads of interesting themes made by creative developers.

I'd like to have a navbar, and disable the hardware buttons. It has been done on older notes by adding "qemu.hw.mainkeys=0" to the build.prop. However, I did it on a themed stock rom (deodexed, rooted, of course), and all I got was the wonderful "System UI has stopped". Any ideas? I hate accidentally hitting menu or back
As a side note, it would be awesome if someone made this work with stock android theme and swipe up from navbar home for Google Now. :fingers-crossed:
T-Mobile Note 3 of course.
Well, I tried modifying the SystemUI.apk to work (same method as the S4), but no matter what I do, SystemUI.apk keeps force closing without even adding qemu.hw.mainkeys=0 to the build.prop.
I was copying META-INF and AndroidManifest.xml from the old apk to the new one, then signing the apk, but no dice. Hmm, there must be a way to enable the NavBar on the Note 3. All the files are in the stock SystemUI, except for the actual button icons. Should the icons go in xxhdpi, or xhdpi (the S4 tutorial stated xhdpi)?
Maybe I just suck at modding apk's. Any ideas?
Also, sorry for bumping my old post, but no one has yet to figure this out
I tried several root apps. Several xposed modules. And several zip packages. Nothing.
Would love this feature as well tried apps and modules as well and a no go a navbar would make the phone perfect to me

Well, I have the buttons more center, but not center. It is the menu button that is pushing everything over to the right. I set the android:layout_weight to 0.0 in the @id:rot0 and @id:rot90 in navigation_bar.xml, but the menu button is still pushing them all over.
Any ideas?

Well, first I used the attachment from this tutorial here.
To just get it to work with TouchWiz's navbar background, copy everything in the drawable of the tut's attached folder to res/drawable, replacing existing files. Then copy the drawable-xhdpi into res; there isn't a folder named that, so just copy it over. That's all that is needed to make System UI not force close with qemu.hw.mainkeys=0 in the build.prop on the Note 3. Now recompile SystemUI.apk, set permission to rw-r--r-- and replace the old SystemUI.apk on the phone.
Well I have them centered in portrait, haven't worked on landscape yet. I just copied the first LinearLayout from the Nexus 5 into the navigation_bar.xml, and made all the resources point to the touchwiz equivalents. I have stock android nav buttons because I was trying something
You can decompile the SystemUI.apk I attached and look at my changes to navigation_bar.xml. Keep in mind my SystemUI.apk is from Jedi Elite ROM, but it is pretty much stock so I don't see it ruining anything on another stock rom, except for any theming.
I think what I am going to do is just port the AOSP navigation_bar.xml. I have no idea why the nav buttons don't want to be centered in TouchWiz, other than they lack spacers in the xml. Probably easier to just port it anyway.
Write up here.
I thought, would be nice to talk separetly about the KitKat International B510 firmware. Also we can write reviews.
My FIRST impression about this KitKat update is mixed. I missing a lot of features, like Permission manager for push services?!
Video playing is really bad! Standalone and online also. If i open videos online, and rotate the screen, i only hear the sound but the screen flashing all the time. Also video image slides alot!
Sometimes the launcher freez, when scrolling to another page. At multi-tasking when i close app with gesture, (not clicking on "X") it closes not smoothly.
Permission manager is gone? A lot of apps needed that, to work properly. For example: Facebook Messenger Cheat heads blocked, so i cant use it because of that.
Others? Whats your imressions overall?

Yes. Give it a shot, it is much faster and all the new functions are running very smooth. The performance is much better.
Update this beta version through OTA (I attended to do beta tester).
No problem with standalone and online video, about launcher seems slightly less fluid, I recommend using a theme created for 2.3 EMUI version.
About the permission manager, I suppose it's changed the method of management with the app "phone management"
I love the new keyboard and the new lock screen !

Yes, im okey with changes, but if it's working well. In phone management you'll not finding any options to set up, permissions neither push options. So it's not a good "change".

@BeyondTheHorizon (assuming your working for Huawei)
My impressions, after updating from B506 to B510. Note that since i have already used Emui2.3 beta (B014) and Emui 2.0 (official) i will not get into mentioning its improvements over Emui1.6.
- Magazine lockscreen is awesome. But i don't understand why magazine option is enabled only for a selected theme, while a few other theme have weather option on lockscreen, and why not instead have them all for all themes. (Also haven't figured out what the "link" option is within the magazine lockscreen menu).
- Overall there is lags and inconsistency in transition and animation speeds everywhere.
Examples:
> Pulling down notification panel has slower animation then when pulling it back up. While on the other hand there is also a jamming lag when notification panel goes back up.
>Random lags when moving about homscreen pages.
> lag in settings sections when entering each settings item.
- I personally dont like the splitting of drop down panel into two "notification" and "switches". The combined was much better. Even in the split form, there is design inconsistency, for example in the switch panel there is lot of free empty space on the bottom half and there is no point in having a slide down arrow to reveal just one row of switches. Furthermore it would have made sense to have the switches fill the bottom half, as it makes it easier for one hand usage. But i still prefer the the combined form which just two rows of switches and brightness option, while the rest hidden under the slide down.
- Thankfully the weather 4x2 widget is proper size, compared to the huge size on B506 and B014. But the transparent clock widget (first introduced on Honor 3c & 3x) is not yet available on this rom.
- The video player app is missing (and like others mentioned, the permission and startup apps manager, one hand option and navigation bar hiding option is missing too)
- I was hoping for changes in the "customize" section of the theme changer app. The old problem of swiping right/left a lot to get to the end of the lockscreen styles, or icons types, etc remains a burden.
- As someone said, its time to change the grey color of navigation bar. Either allow users to customize it, or have a number of colors that changes according to apps.
- In contacts "favorite" section, there is Chinese fonts.
- I don't think there is a need to have all the google apps pre-installed. Just a couple of them would be enough, while the rest can be downloaded from playstore.
- The water mark option in camera is nice. Cant find the "Cheeze" to take pics option. The photo editor is great and fun too. Video recorded on camera comes out dark. In case of taking selfie pics, once you hit the shoot button, the screen weirdly gets all yellow before taking the pic. Photos looks grainy too. But im no expert on camera, so i could be wrong.
- The Chinese rom had an app center app, and at times the latest version of the Huawei apps would be available on that. Such app updates are not available on this rom.
- The types of transition effects for homescreen keeps decreasing with every new rom update, when instead we should be getting newer ones added.
- The homescreen icons on this rom appear slightly bigger compared to them on the Chinese rom. Can be noticed when applying emui2.0 theme icons on this emui2.3 launcher.
Good and bad in B510
Good
- Magazine lockscreen is really good. I like it, hope more themes are like that.
- I like the splitting of drop down panel into two "notification" and "switches". But I hope they could have a setting to enable/disable it.
- Floating apps are awesome.
- Torch in notifications is very useful.
- Ultra power saving mode changes UI to dark black --> seems convincing that it will save battery life. Overall this rom has decent battery life.
- External SD settings
Bad
- Just hope that when I use other music players it can get the controls on the lock screen. Also, if there was a music slider to skip a few seconds of music was available on lockscreen that would be good.
- Hope that the default launcher could have a drawer. Having all the apps on the screen is messy.
- The radio widget still isn't transparent while the other huawei widgets are. It stands out and looks ugly.
- No permissions manager. It blocks facebook chatheads by default because it draws over other apps. No way to unblock it because permission settings are missing.
- The grey color of navigation bar is horrendous. Hopefully they notice this and they make it black or able to customize.
- Camera pictures look grainy.
- GPS still sucks. Don't know if it is a hardware issue.
- No ART mode
Other
- I don't know what to think about the carrier name. I feel like it's ok, don't hate it or like it.
The carrier name HAS to go! Why do they need to put it there anyway?
I agree with @warea about the notification panel that is better in Emui 2.0. Having it separate could work if you can change the settings of how you want it to be opened.
I find that the rom is a bit laggy most of the time, but for a beta I can live with it.

The carrier name it's something new for this update. And everything else it's really just a matter of opinion. The most important thing is that this ROM must run smooth and fast without any lag when it will be released as official/final. Everything else is just customization that can be added or removed by rooting and installing third party apps.
Also noticed, my phone is really hot, even for simple use. And the battery is really bad on this rom.

Hey,
As you guys know, Huawei disables the "Darken Interface Colors" option on their non-pro devices (p20, mate 10, mate 20).
With EMUI 8 you could just install a dark theme from the play store and solve this issue, but with EMUI 9 the problem is that these old themes don't display correctly (lots of black on black unreadable text)
So I made a simple dark theme that could help with this issue, download it from the attachments below.
There are some small bugs (as shown here)
But I'm not knowledgeable enough with EMUI theming to be able to fix them, so if anyone is, please do
(hwt files are just renamed zip files basically, they're really easy to work with).
Areas themed:
- Settings (Not perfect, but is good enough, need someone more experienced to fix the small bugs)
- Volume bar
- Notification Area
- Nav Bar (Background Color Depends on App)
--> Screenshots Gallery Here <--
Recommended Apps to use with this theme:
- Download Google Phone and set the theme to dark, also set it as your default dialer in device settings.
- Download Google Contacts and set it to dark also.
- Default Messages app that comes with the phone has the option to go dark.
- F Stop Gallery
- Gonemad or Black player for music.
- Youtube has a dark theme.
- Solid Explorer (Dark theme)
- Try using Fluid Navigation Gestures on the playstore if you want more customization gesture navigation (works flawlessly)
To install:
Download the maddada Dark EMUI 9 v1 (non-pro).hwt file and place it in 'Internal Storage/ Themes'
After Install:
You can change the icon pack, lock screen, and wallpapers easily from the "Me" tab in the themes area of the device's settings.
Download here:
nope not working on my mate 20
same here. not working on mate 20
Hope you get this fixed, the Honor Magic 2 has an OLED display but no dark theme available either.

Works very well!!!...Hope in future updates. Dialer for first. Thank you for the job!
Okay I tried this a bit ago and it didn't work. Then I came across a problem and decided to reset all settings, then I was suddenly able to apply the theme.
Maybe try restarting the phone and if that doesn't work and you're desparate for dark theme, go ahead and try reset settings ("Reset all settings" option, NOT "Factory data reset")
