[Q] Returning To Stock Gingerbread Questions - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im currently running Android Revolution HD 5.1.7 with the 12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2 radio and formatted using the EXT4 tool.
For various reasons, this is what I want to do:
1) Return to the stock gingerbread rom
2) Return to whatever the formatting was before I went to EXT4
What I had planned to do, is locate a Gingerbread RUU exe and use it to restore my phone. Will this work? Will this restore the previous formatting?
Could someone give me a link to the Gingerbread stock ruu exe?

About the format, im not 100% sure, but i would guess so...
here is the Gingerbread RUU CLICK HERE (andyharney links, thanks goes to him)

Thank you very much for the link - failry fast server
I presume that once I run the exe / rom it will install the stock version of gingerbread. Anyone know whether it will unroot the phone as well?

Yea it will install stock version of GB! and Its official so no root.
If you want an stock-rooted ROM (which is the same as the original but rooted) then flash this - CLICK HERE

stock roms

Got an unbranded deisre which i have rooted, and installed defrost 1.6c. Can anyone point me towards what stock rom I would need to put it back the way it was originally.
If I did put the stock back on would it still be rooted?
Bootloader was 0.80 when i upgraded.
Had a look at the stock and confused as which one i would need.

It shows all the stock ROMs, you must of been on the lateset one if your are on bootloader 0.80.xxxx
RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2_Radio_32.36.00.28U_4. 06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe would be the one you need if you want to do it from the computer or OTA_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.21.405.2-1.15.405.4_release_P4ohim1mtp6zggcyon.zip if obviously pushing
Yes you would lose root if you applied any of them
cheers for the reply,
pushing would mean doing it through rom manager into custom recovery wouldn't it and then wipe and installing it. Do i just put this rom on the root directory on my sd card and rename it update?
This then would put it back to its natural state and voiding warranty wouldn't it?

Don't use that one, it's an OTA update from 1.51.405.4 to 1.21.405.2. It contains only the changes between these two stock roms. I'd bet that'd really mess things up installed on top of defrost
Download this:
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bra...00.28U_4.06.00.02_2_release_126984_signed.exe
It's the full 1.21.405.2 ROM, you will need to go back to a Sense ROM to run it though as you need HTC Sync...OR run this from recovery

Putting the RUU ROM will put it completely back to normal restoring your warranty

Eddy, sorry a little confused.
I am on Defrost 1.6c at the moment. If I run the 1.21.405.2 stock from your second post in recovery, will that take me back to where I want to go?

The 2nd link (the ZIP) should flash you back to stock...if you wanna use the full RUU you'd first need to go back to a custom Sense-based ROM (like MCR v3.1)

Sorry new to all this. Tried the second link zip which I put on my SD card. Then went into recovery with rom manager, erased and then tried to flash the zip from SD card but kept on getting an error.
Am I doing something wrong?

Quick Question About Switching to Froyo ROM

If I decide to update my radio and install a leaked froyo ROM is there any way to revert back to a stock phone?
Yes but not if you do unrevoked forever. Currently there is no way to revert s-off back to s-on. But you don't need to do that to run Froyo and an updated radio, and without it you can easily go back to 100% stock.
How would I go about reverting to stock? like if i want to return to stock 2.1 with original radio?
Just flash this zip file in recovery it will revert you to 2.1
Edit: ok it didnt take my upload for some reason the the zip name is PB31IMG.zip
oh so just reflash the stock 2.1 image and everythings back to fully stock?

I dont mess with my radio outside going to 2.x as for the rom which rom are you talking about?
Edit: Wait your stock 2.1 right now? If your asking about updating your radio so you can root and get froyo leak then just check out the videos from the guy I sent you above he has a video on updating your radio then just use Unrevoked3 to root

HTC Desire update

Hey all,
I've just received an HTC Desire update (Since I'm using the stock ROM with stock radio), my phone downloaded it but it cannot install due to clockwork recovery blocking it (signature failure).
I have the .zip file. How can I customize that .zip to be able to install ?
I am rooted, with clockwork 2.5 (Version before 3.0) and have stock ROM and stock radio.
Please help.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this topic. Thank you!
Never apply OTA updates on a rooted phone
Find a rom in development and flash that.

Yeah, I found that out on the internet whilst searching for clues.
The thing is, I rather keep the HTC ROM than move onto other ROMs made by other people. It's just my preference. I just want to know how I could modify or something to allow me to install the latest OTA update.
Thanks for the reply.
You can't, simple as that
If you want the new version you'll have to unroot using the RUU and then re-root

Thanks for the quick reply buddy.
Okay, I must unroot then apply the update.
So, I must uninstall Clockwork recovery then unroot then update then root then install clockwork recovery. Is that right?

Version; 2.10.405.2 (Froyo)
Radio; 32.48.00.32U_5.11.05.14
Using this stock HTC rom => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741775
Download this and flash it:

If it doesn't work, try:

Then re-root if you want but bare in mind you still won't be able to get OTA updates
if he waqnts to keep root and use stock rom why doesnt he just flash teppics stock rom?
its 2.29.405.5 base, exactly the same
he has clockweork, he can just flash it over the top
True, but they don't say they want a custom ROM
Thanks so much but (you're gonna laugh) I decided to google your ROM, eMIUI and I'm in love.
I looked at the xda topic and well it was overwhelming for my simpleton mind. I really want to install that ROM, is it safe to flash it or must I have EXT2? Cause I see some ROMs require EXT2 while others don't. I don't have EXT2 nor do I know what it is.
Sorry about my "foolishness" but I'm really interested to have the same setup as you Eddy. Tell me all about it.
Oh and since your from Merseyside, can you maybe pop by Anfield and give those excuse of football players a whack on the head for me please?
Could've just clicked the link in my signature and you'd get the page on here
As for hitting Liverpool, I would but I'm a Gooner (from London originally) so kinda funny to see them faulter - if a little sad
Regarding my setup, I have a 1Gb EXT3 partition set purely so that I don't have to worry about space in future. When I rooted with unrEVOked I flashed AmonRA as opposed to CWM as at the time you couldn't partition SD cards in CWM (think you can now). I'm using a 16Gb Class 2 SD card and it works fine.
I tried a few other ROMs before finally giving eMIUI a go and I love it and with a bit of my own work on it (purely cosmetic, nothing under the hood) it does what I want it to and I normally go to bed with 40-50% battery left whereas on stock I'd be neally out on the same usage.
he said no custom rom but tepics is just stock with root and busybox which is what he would be now anyway
anyhow hes looking into miui
Miui is nice, emiui seems to be the most stable but an EXT is needed
How do I get an EXT?
Thanks so much guys!
I'm rooted, with clockwork 2.5 and I have S-ON.
Just run the correct RUU. You have to re-root like but still. Saves farting around
I have sd-ext is that the EXT2?
I don't know, not used CWM in a long time. What version are you using. It normally says at the bottom of CWM when in recovery
I partitioned an EXT2 512MB with 128MB buffer. I'm using 1.01.07, the same link as the one in Eddy's signature. I am wondering..... how do you flash a kernal? Can I do it even with my eMIUI installed or I must wipe?
Thanks!

[Solved] Reverting to stock ROM?

Hi,
I'm gonna get straight to the point. I want to revert back to the original Froyo ROM it shipped with (and had to downgrade to, in order to root it). I used gfree, got pretty much all backup images it made. Did forget though to make a NANDROID backup with Clockwork, so that's my point. Where can I find the correct ROM to flash, and how do I unroot it?
I've currently flashed my DZ with the latest Virtuous Sense, no carrier-lock. I'm from the Netherlands, should that make any difference.
rc_enzo
Edit: It's now stock, Gingerbread and unrooted. No sweat.

If you're trying to revert back to stock for a warranty replacement (eg. you want to make sure "they" don't know you rooted), follow the guide in the wiki; if you're just wanting the stock ROM, it should be available on shipped-roms.com

Okay, I've been there. Problem is, I don't have a single clue which ROM I should download from that page...
Stock froyo, grab this one RUU_Vision_HTC_WWE_1.34.405.5_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_155556_signed.exe
its a rootable froyo rom.

The method used by the wiki to unroot needs to be changed at some point as it doesn't work for everyone.

Okay, installed it and works properly.
Is it safe to update it OTA to Gingerbread in this state? I haven't changed anything else than the new official ROM, so it's still rooted I guess.
You should probably put it S-ON, if you don't want root at all.
In which case you should stick to the froyo rom until you do it, then its safe to go up to gingerbread.
-Nipqer
Okay, that I shall do.
Another question (yeah, I can't stop somehow ): on the stock Froyo ROM, Twitter was pre-installed. I updated the app, and now I have two shortcuts in my App Drawer: one with the old logo, and one with the new, both redirecting to the same app. Anything I can do about this?

[Q] Returning to stock

I'm selling my DInc on eBay in a few days (upgrading to the Galaxy Nexus). It's currently running CM7 - I plan to give the buyer the option of a stock phone or a rooted phone with CM7 (as an aside, is this a good idea, or should I just sell it stock?). So I need to make sure I know how to return it to stock if necessary.
I found a very detailed and seemingly clear procedure over on another forum (I hope I'm allowed to link to it here, if not I apologize), but I just want to make sure of a couple of things.
1. The 2.3.4 PB31IMG.zip I downloaded (from here) contains a radio as well as the ROM. It's the same radio I'm already running (2.15.10.07.07) - am I ok to flash this over what I currently have, since it's the same baseband?
2. Will this also return recovery to stock (I have CWM recovery), or is that something I have to do in a separate step? If I have to do it separately, in what order do I do it - before I return it to S-ON using Unrevoked or after? Before flashing PB31IMG.zip or after?
3. Finally, in addition to CM7, my phone has the EXT4 4 All mod installed (/data and /cache are formatted ext4 instead of ext3), do I need to be concerned about this?
Thanks for any help you can provide!

Yes it is ok to flash the ruu even though it contains the same radio.
Flashinh an ruu will install the stock recovery. You will wany to flash the s-on tool on the unrevoked forever site before doing an ruu.
First you have to flash thru hboot the froyo 2.15.00.07.28 radio.
Then flash the s-on tool thru recovery.
Then do the ruu.
Thats it the phone is complete stock again, remember to format the emmc and sdcard before selling.
The ext 4 mod is not an issue if returning to stock, as it will be overwriten by the ruu. If the buyer wants it rooted i would still go in to recovery wipe everything in mounts and storrage and then flash a fresh rom.

Thanks for your response - it's very helpful. I have one question though -- why do I have to flash the Froyo 2.15.00.07.28 radio if I'm doing a Gingerbread 2.3.4 RUU that already has a later radio (2.15.10.07.07) included?
Don't worry, I'll definitely wipe everything and flash a fresh copy of CM7 if the buyer wants it rooted!

You have to go to the 07.28 radio to go s-on. Both unrevoked and the s-on tool require that radio to function properly. But then when you flash the ruu it will go back to 07.07

No problem. Also even if they want it stock you could just leave it s-off and flash the ruu. This would make it stock rom / recovery but much much simpler for them to root if they would so choose in the future.
U probably would get more money leaving it rooted with cm7
