Hi,
so I am finally at that point where I'm about to jump off a bridge.
My beloved HTC Desire has got weird problems and I really have no more idea, what I can do.
So here's the problem:
Sometimes (turning screen off sometimes helps), my phone registers an input (at a certain horizontal line, I will clarify that later) when I'm actually not touching that zone at all.
So (if you have the keyboard open), it always thinks it is touched at a horizontal line which is about there, where the 'a' is on the qwerty-keyboard. (I have a swiping keyboard on my phone, that always gives a nice blue line from 'a' to 'l'...).
The really weird thing about that is, that I don't actually have to TOUCH the screen. I can move that blue line on my keyboard (or change homescreens for that matter) while I am about 1-2 cm ABOVE the screen and I DON'T EVEN TOUCH IT. That really drives me crazy, as I don't even know whether that's physically possible...
That behaviour is totally random, sometimes I don't see it for 1-2 days, sometimes it won't go away for a couple hours.
Additionally, sometimes the Screen won't recognize my touches at all (only at lockscreen, turning on and off helps).
So I tried restoring various Nandroid backups from when I didn't have that problem, I tried flashing a new radio, a new rom, data, factory etc. wipe and nothing helps.
Pulling the battery when it's off and leaving it off for about 10min also won't help.
If you don't understand what I'm trying to say (I know it's difficult and I appreciate any efforts to help) I will try to record a video of it.
It is also difficult returning the phone as that failure is not reproducible.
I am running MIUI 1.5.20 on my S-OFF'ed HTC Desire with SLCD Screen.
I would be so thankful for any help,
Don
Maybe just an issue with the screen in general. You ever throught about contacting HTC or your carrier? See if getting a new screen would be better and stop these problems. Just be prepared to use an RUU though.
thanks Meaple,
anyone else got an idea?

Hi All,
I am using an IMATE Pocket PC 2003 since the last 6-8 months. Over the last few weeks I am facing a problem with the Touch Screen. ALl of a sudden the Touch Screen fails to respond although the buttons are still working.
Sometimes after several reboots, the Touch Screen responds sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes I just keep it IDLE for 2-3 Hours and the Touch Screen starts responding. There is no fixed time of the error also the error is random. Sometimes everything is normal for one week and there is no problem at all. Sometimes the problem persists continously.
I have Hard Resetted it atleast 4 times but the status still remains the same.
If anybody has experienced this, do share your thoughts.
Regards
Jinesh
I read somewhere that if you re-align your screen it may help.
Do your hardware buttons still work? You could try mapping tpenable.exe to a hardware button and select this when the screen locks up.
Touch screen problem
Jinesh,
did you ever manage to fix this?? This is exactly the problem I've been having on my MDA Compact (Magician) for ages: screen unresponsive, buttons still working. I started a thread on this topic as well and got some suggestions, but never managed to sort it out. I'm a bit wary to resort to flashing a new ROM or something like that since it seems to open up a whole new set of potential problems and will cost me my warranty with T-Mobile at the least (Not that they're much help, but still)...
Thanx,
Joost
Maybe the cover
The Qtek9090-screen is sometimes locked (e.g. when it's in a car holder which causes too much pressure on both sides of the display.) The same happens sometimes without any cause - pressing on both sides unlocks the screen.
Hi,
I am using an O2 Mini now and have sold off that Imate. But what I came to know that the touch screen problem was due to the irregularities in the network. The screen stops responding fast when network is weak and the device keeps on searching the network.
I have faced this problem once or twice in my O2 mini also.
Regards
Jinesh, I don't know if you checked out my thread on this, but indeed this is the conclusion I've reached: bad network causes the unresponsive screen. I think it might have something to do with the priority windows gives to the screen routine compared to (searching for) network. As of yet I have been unable to find a way to increase priority for the screen or lower it for network, though I browsed through the registry pretty extensively. Suggestions from anyone on this would be most welcome.
I recently had to replace my Evo and when I go to replace my phone I see they take it out of a replacement box. I always hated liked the idea of a refurbished phone but I was desperate and hey if it works then what the hell. Its been 2 weeks and I've noticed problems with the screen response and sometimes losing control of it. for example i could be on Facebook and it will just start scrolling up and down rapidly I also have trouble moving from screen to screen having to make a slow full swipe or it wont work this also occurs unlocking the screen.A more common issue is when typing in portrait "i" and "n" don't work and I'm forced to switch to landscape. Although this happens frequently there is no way i can prove this to a Sprint store considering this happens randomly. Could i still ask for a replacement and what are chances i can get a NEW phone? Also is this a problem with the screen or one that can be solved?
Thank you in advance
I noticed times like that, also when I swyped it showed a very jagged line and wouldn't put the correct word down, I found that during those times I had it plugged into the charger, unplugged and it works fine, how to fix? I dunno, is yours caused by the charger too?
I've noticed my lockscreen issue is caused when charging and as for the keyboard no it happens randomly
I'd take it in, and try do perform actions and have it messed up. You can still express your disdain for the replacement.
A few days ago I succesfully (at least I thought so..) flashed my Desire to Cyanogenmod 7 using Amon-ra and it worked perfectly, until today out of nowhere my screen is black with a couple of white lines from top to bottom. One minute it worked as normal, and a couple of minutes later when I pressed the top button to unlock it, the screen was all weird. The touch functions of the screen seem to work as normal, I can unlock the screen, shut it down, power it up, enter my pin etc (blindly) but I see only the vertical lines so it's hard to check what's going on. I do see that the lines "move" when something changes on the screen, like when I unlock it, I see that the screen does react on it, but only some lines appear, move or disappear. For the rest, the sound works as normal when I turn op the volume, as does the vibrating.
I have a PVT4 S-on (thats all I remember) if it makes any difference.
Picture is from a camera, not a screenshot. Looks a bit yellow or so but the background is black, and the lines are white.
Does anyone know what it caused and what I can do to fix it? Maybe reset it or reflash it someway?
Many thanks in advance!!
Where's the picture?
You might want to give HTC a ring.
Request from puntchiel, a picture of his mobile phone:

Hm I forgot the picture, my friend len posted a link for me, for Im not yet able to do that cauz Im a nub
Thx len!
Yeh, send it to HTC or your carrier. It looks so ****ed
Well, sending it back and profiting from my insurance is my last option cuz I wont have it back for at least a month. Does anyone know what it could have caused or what could be a way to solve this highly annoying thing? I can't imagine that it is a hardware problem that occured this sudden... And the screen is reacting to my input but it only shows the frikkin lines! So I hope that it is a software problem. I just have no idea how to solve it, so thats why I'm asking the pro's on this forum
And btw, if I'm sending it back I need to make sure that they don't find out of the custom software on my device. That leaves me only two options I quess, fixing it or completely smashing it... So if someone at least knows how to use a RUU or something via my PC (without having to use the screen of my desire), your help is very much appreciated!!!

Ohh yeah thats helpful; i am sure he did not think to contact htc himself
That picture recalls bad experience with my ex Nokia 5800xm. I had to replace display.
Maybe it is not same case but it looks same.
I have exactly the same problem, flashed cm7 on my desire a few months ago.
Worked all fine.
Then yesterday all of a sudden i had a black screen with white lines.
Maybe you, puntchiel, have found any sollution?
I'm sorry Hanswurst, I had my ensurance company pick up my device and they replaced the screen, so I asume it was a hardware problem. I wish I could help you buddy. Good luck with it!
Howdy folks,
So my G2 developed an odd behavior a few months back. Simply put, when the keyboard is fully extended, rather than the screen rotating, it goes dark and visa versa when it is retracted. It stays on through the range of motion, but when it reaches the "stop" at either end, it appears the device turns off; since pressing the power button again will wake the device back up again with the appropriate screen rotation.
I've wiped and flashed multiple ROMs onto the device since this started happening (since it's my travel and test device) and have also torn it down to "upgrade" the springs, hoping that a bit of a clean and reassemble might re-seat whatever has gone awry, to no avail.
If anyone has any ideas as to what might be causing this to happen or what I can do to rectify (or even further identify) the issue, I'd be most appreciative!
Cheers,
Mike.
Much as I dislike the prospect of raising my own thread, I'm hoping perhaps someone might have a suggestion... I'm starting to use this unit more and more and curse under my breath every time I instinctively extend the keyboard. (Doh!)
TIA,
Mike.
Using the stock ROM for the Galaxy Nexus, Android 4.04 from Google, I'm finding this bug (which has been elsewhere reported, but not acted upon by Google) where the touch screen is unresponsive. You press the 'power' button, the 'slide to unlock' screen appears, but the touch screen doesn't respond to anything.
If I get a call while the phone is sleep, the same thing occurs - can't answer the phone.
I usually have to put the phone to sleep/wake it up 5, 6, or more times before the touch screen again becomes enabled in these situations.
Does anyone know why this happens? There has been much conjecture about this, but I have yet to see anyone say for sure why this would be happening. A disabled touchscreen at such a crucial point in a GUI is pretty horrific.

was gonna make a new thread on this but since i found one with the exact same thing happened figured why waste space, but anyway this just happned to me running stock 4.0.4 cdma unrooted. was just charging my phone unlocked it to check twitter and the lock screen was completely unresponsive for whatever reason. I continued to turn the screen off and on several times and then just decided to pull my battery and it worked fine.
This is the first time its happened to me and its kinda troubling as I dont want this to be a recurring thing and was wondering if this continues to happen or its just some single random occurence?
