I used g free method to root my g2 and was wondering what steps I need to follow to unroot my phone and put -on back on.
I'm selling my g2 today so I need to put everything back to stock. And there was a thread using pc10img but when I used that before it put stock rom and s was still off.

In gfree there is a way to put s-on back using gfree I forgot where but check one of the gfree threads
Search on google wiki.cyanogen there's a lot of updated method posted up in there

I might be totally missing something here... but wouldn't an "easy" method to unroot just be to flash the new stock ROM in it's "pure" form? I saw the sticky topic warning users against flashing the leaked OTA as it would turn S-ON and roll everything back to stock, thus making it a real pain in the $%@! to root again. (If I'm off-base, then please feel free to educate my cracker ass)
bump on this as well, @eunkipark92, have you had any luck on putting s-on again?? i`m having the same problem...have you tried doing the OTA thing ? if you did, did it make it s-on???
check this out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=835971 thank him . hope this helps

its real easy flash the unrevoked s-on tool untill the bootloader says s-on it may take more than one time it may not after that flash the ruu with the build that came with your phone
So I download the file to my card then what? I'm lost here sorry

Unrevoked 3.21/3.22 automatically runs Unrevoked Forever after the rooting is done (this is the very last step of the process before your phone boots up). That's why you end up getting NAND unlocked (S-OFF).
So you are looking to go back to stock and do not want to run Wireless Tethering anymore yes?
Download the S-ON tool and place it on the root of your SDcard (not in any folders). Go into recovery and flash the S-ON file and it hopefully should make your phone S-ON again.
Thank you. I'll try that! I'll let you know.

So it flashed the s-on and no luck. Done it twice ashtray and no luck. Should I keep trying?

From the unrevoked forever wiki page, it says to download the s-on.zip and flash it. If its not working, try re-downloading another unrevoked-forever-son.zip file and try again, otherwise I'm not sure what else to tell you, sorry.
[GUIDE] How to Unroot the EVO in 2 STEPS
This unroot guide written by djR3Z says to keep trying until it works.
Do you have radio version 2.15.00.11.19? I know you cannot S-OFF while on this radio version, so maybe you cannot S-ON either.
You will need to downgrade the radio first to 2.15.00.09.01. My real suggestion is to flash the mtd-eng.img hack, RUU back to 3.30, S-ON, RUU to 3.70.
I just finished! Had to flash a recovered rom. Stock rom that is. It was quite the process but I did it! Thanks for the help everyone!

Sorry if this has been answered already. I did look but couldn't see it and I can't ask on development area because I'm a new member.
I upgraded to Gingerbread using the RUU zip on SD card method. Is it possible to downgrade to say 1.72 or 1.32 using the stock RUU exe files linked to here without rooting the phone?
Thanks in advance!

Search Gingerbreak.
In short, no, simply trying to push an earlier RUU won't work.
By itself.
[EDIT] Post below has link that then links to Gingerbreak.
I followed these instructions here and everything worked nicely for me. I had to try it multiple times though but in the end, I am now with Leedroid 3.0.2 and very happy
Thanks for the quick responses! I will check out with the link provided!

Quick follow up question... Sorry.
If I follow those instructions, which looks like I'm basically tricking it into thinking I'm on a lower firmware than the one I want to flash, will I end up back with an unrooted phone as it was when it came out of the box pretty much?
Basically what I'm trying to achieve is to get it back to an earlier firmware so that OTA updates etc will work and that there's no way to tell it was upgraded/downgraded.
Hope that makes sense.
Thanks again!
Well, that is what I got. My old phone as I took it out of the box. And then I got on the rooting/flashing/customizing boat

Hi All,
I'm newbie for rooting.. I have HTC DHD which has 2.3 gingerbread and 2.37 build. i read lot of posts to downgrade and root. my question is.. if i downgrade it can i restore it back to previous version (for warranty purpose.. because i just bought it few months before.. still covers it's warranty)...
Thanks in advance...
Ezhil
Yes you can. My dhd is still under warranty and I rooted after having it 4 days. Be sure you make and keep a backup of the stock rom as soon as your rooted. I have a copy on my sd and my laptop.

i apologise. i forgot that you have to downgrade first. without root you cant create a back up. its not vitaly important just a handy thing to have. not to worry. you can just use an RUU to restore your phone to stock should you need to use thr warranty.
Thanks twiztedvvv.. Is it possible to have dual boot in my desire HD?
Yes there is a post with the instruction on how to do it in the dev forum. I can't get you a link right now though so do a search.

Hi, i have tried searching but got more and more confused trying to find the correct solution for my needs.
Can anyone help me please.
I need some warranty work done on my desire hd, the handset i currently have was supplied by my insurers so i don't think it was branded to my carrier (Vodafone Uk) when i received it.
I need to return to a stock official UK rom, i guess i need to change to a corresponding radio & ril too? and return to s-on and finally remove root and any other trace of being rooted.
I am currently running Android Revolution HD 6.3.3 if that is of any relevance, along with this radio: 12.65.60.29U_26.14.04.28_28M
Hope somebody doesn't mind giving me a hand with this or point me in the right direction for a guide.
Many thanks :good:

If you flash a ruu, you will lose root but not S-OFF. Root is easy to achive, flash SU in CWM and that is all.

Yo, again problems with fckin htc devices.
I just downgraded the rom from gingerbread to 2.2 froyo.
After that I rooted the phone, but now I cant install cwm recovery via adb.
Always gettin the msg "failed, REMOTE: NOT ALLOWED "
Debugging is enabled.
Anyone can help me with that crap htc phone?
Calling your g2/dz crap doesn't make it so, it just sounds like you don't know what you're doing and then complaing that it must be the phones fault... kinda flawed logic.
But if you want some help rooting it why don't you post a copy of your cmd output/imput and we can see where you went wrong. Also maybe link the guide you're following as there may bed a better one that is easier for you to understand

The phone is already rooted and S-off
During the rooting process and gaining true radio soff you will have a custom recovery.
Did you follow the YouTube video to root then?
The only method you won't to use to root is with gfree
Either follow the xda wiki
Cyanogens wiki
Or straw metals PDF guide
For the most part anything else you do will cause you problems

Yea, I followed the youtube video.
How can I roll it back to s-on?
i just quickly looked at the youtube video and it seems it was having you run gfree for the exploit which is good but doing it through terminal emulator not through adb. shouldnt be an issue doing this but im too lazy to go through the video and see if it was telling you all the right things, either way you need to check and see if gfree worked.
check THIS POST out, follow the steps at the bottom and see if gfree worked. if you have true radio s-off than flash one of the pc10img.zips through hboot or fastboot - fastboot is the preferred method as if there is an error it will tell it to you and you can choose not to reboot until it is fixed.
if you need further help feel free to ask
Just checked it.
But got one question
"~make nandroid in recovery"
How can I make a backup without recovery? :x
As long as it says secure flag zero you are safe to use the pc10img.zip
The nandroid is just so you can restore easy, instead just flash a new rom
But you may just want to flash the recovery through fastboot if you're not interested in changing radios etc, so long as you have an engineering SPL you can do this, if not flashing the pc10img.zip will give you one.
