Hi I have a epic. Rooting for the first time... I have put the phone into debbuging. I have installed the drivers. I have downloaded one click root from xda. I either get phone is not connected or rage the cage file is missing. and is there any way i can pay for the root to get done. Plz help.
Thanks in Advance.... C- Flo
Delete ur current root files, unzip the files again, shut off ur anti virus and try it again. Be patient. It takes a little while. Tomorrow afternoon I will be making a how to video on how to properly root the epic and install a custom rom.

Chances are musclehead84 is right, in my personal exprience, I had to reinstall the driver serveral times in order to make it work...
Ohh and something I noticed with my netbook is that only one of the usb ports actually works with my phone, so maybe it is the same for you.
Try this (and please anyone correct me if I'm wrong):
1)re-install the drivers just to make sure everything is okay
2)plug in your phone to all the different usb ports until you actually manage to get your computer to read your phone and you are able to transfer files from your computer to your phone's sd card with the usb cable
3)once you figure out what ports work with your phone, unplug your phone, extract the file again and enable usb debugging via settings>application>development>usb debugging
4)plug in you phone and run the program and BE PATIENT it does take a while...I have already prima-bricked my phone form being impatient and panicing while flashing my phone with odin (not to scare you)
Hope it helps

Haven't been able to find the stock rom. Been about 6 months since I used this phone. I followed the wiki but mediaupload has been taking down to stop pirates...
And if possible a short instruction on how to install via odin. Either in phone or pda would be my only question.
Okay so download this stock tar. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501424.
1. If you have the victory PIT already then don't download the odin and pit download if you do its there.
2. Open oding put the pit in the pit section and check the pda box and put the stock tar there. Make sure only auto reboot is checked and hit start.
If you run into any trouble come back an ask . Make sure you have a good cable and not the stock one good luck.

I have the drivers from Samsung's site. I've tried 5 different cables. I don't have any problems putting the device into download mode. But getting odin to see it is next to impossible.
you might try heimdall. it comes with USB drivers that you can force to work essentially. All you'll have to do is pull all the files out of the tar and put them in each section in heimdall. works great otherwise.

Hmm seems like you may have a bad usb port..why do need to go back to the stock ROM anyways?
What exactly happens? Unknown device or does the computer fail to recognise a usb is plugged in? If its unknown that's a driver issue if it fails to see a usb then your usb port on the phone may be bad.
Also is your windows box 64 or 32bit? 64 tend to have more issues if you don't have the proper drivers..let me link you the ones I use.

Here download which ever one you have, unzip and install them.

I have 64. I was selling the device to someone who didn't know what they were doing. Wanted to put things back to stock for them as I will not be able to help them with it.
Never had a problem with Odin with my epic 4g touch. But I remember going through this a long time ago with my epic 4g and samsung moment.

Unknown device. Installed the drivers you posted. Rebooted my pc to see if that would fix and still unknown device. Connected my Epic 4g touch using same cable and same port and that was recognized with no problems.
Drivers?
perhaps uninstall ET4G drivers first, perhaps it is causing some issue.
so now uninstall all epic (OG and touch) drivers, reboot, install epic 4g 64bit drivers.
open odin, put phone in dl/mode, connect to pc ... is happy?

Now it's happy. You'd think Samsung could make drivers that didn't run into each other.

Excellent! glad that worked.
I'm sure this has been answered before, but I searched for 2 hours and couldn't find the answer. so anyways, I just got my phone and I want to flash it to boost(they charge $70-$80 here), but I can't even get it into diag mode using ##8778#. when i try it just acts like you're dialing a phone number. When I tried to read out the info with cdma workshop, it wouldn't read and I can't even locate the com port(using windows 7 64 bit). I checked device manager and ports don't even show up. I went into bios and I couldn't locate anyway to check to see if they were enabled, I guess it's not an option on my computer. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Use the el29 or ff18 temporary boot method. I am on my phone ATM, so no links, but Google works OK. Qbking did a video a while back about it. It lets you pout phone in temporary el29 state so you can use diag mode.

I had the same issue with one of my phones when trying to flash it to metro. Couldn't find a work around so I flashed a stock rom and that eventually worked.
I have a new method how too flash your bricked phone back to factory stock or too flash any stock firmware . This flash is the LG Official firmware. This flash will wipe out everything and correctly flash prl, stock recovery, all partition. So let the get the ball rolling and lets hopefully get your phone back too fully working. Please follow all steps no short cutting, or altering files may cause issues with hardware and software too your phone. Please make sure you can get your phone in download mode before doing anything else.If your Sprint LS970 can get into download mode . This method will fix any bricked issues and also can use too flash any of the LS970 firmware versions .
Directions - Please read them carefully
1. Please make sure you have your LG Drivers installed before you start this process
2. Please download this file from this link provided http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23159073880933271
3. When the download is complete. Please open the zip folder and you will see a folder inside the zip called LG. take the LG folder and move it too C: drive
4. Please have at least 60 percent battery or more and put the phone in download mode. too get the phone in download mode. Make sure your phone is completely off. once you have done that . Hold both volume buttons together and plug usb cord and then when you see download mode you can release the volume button and now you are in download mode.
5. Now go too your device manager and look for your com ports and find your LGE Android USB Serial Port. Now double click it and look for advance and then click it. now we have too change the com port too 41. when you are done press ok and close it out.
6. Unplug your usb connection from phone and leave phone in download mode.
7. Now open your windows explorer go to C:\LG\LGFLASHTOOL and look for the filename LGFLASHTOOL and right click it and run as admin.
8. The program will open up. Now we need too program the LG Flashtool Software with Official LG DLL and Firmware and Comm Port
9. Go to port settings in the LG FlashTool program and select port 1 only. and please ok
10. now we need too go too model settings in LG FlashTool and we need too select dll starting with LGLS970. and select tot or bin files that shows your phone model. I know it will show that we show the tot or bin file and dll already setup. But we too remove them and re add them. So do that now by choosing manual mode. and then select your LGLS970.dll and tot or bin and please ok when done.
11. Now we are ready too flash the phone.
12. too start the flash you will press the arrow on the top left side of LG FlashTool and when the box shows ready, just plug your usb cord into the phone and the phone will start flashing . Once it has started the process don't let your pc go into sleep mode and don't unplug the phone during the flashing process. once the flash is done the phone will reboot and perform a factory reset and when that is done . the phone will reboot fully too hand free activation. at that point you can unplug the phone from usb and close out the lg flashtool.
13. Good Luck and hope this guide will help you and please show me so love and click the thanks button or donate too me button. too help with LG Unbrick Project
P.S. please follow the pictures too match the directions and don't change or shortcut things.

Ever since this phone came out, we've been using LGNPST. It's kind of a pain to get, but once you get it and setup, seems pretty easy to use.
This LGFlashTool has been mentioned off and on for other purposes/uses, but never (that I can remember) used for flashing phones to Factory.
Reading your Guide, LGFlashTool does seem to be more thorough, as it seems to wipe EVERYTHING, and you end up starting from scratch. ie Hands free activation proves that.
I think I just answered my own question. LGNPST is easy for the masses. Whereas LGFlashtool is better for REALLY wiping/cleaning up the phone. Almost more for shop work. If that makes sense.
Please don't take this wrong, I'm not being mean. I was just curious about it's use. And I just figured it out as I wrote this.
It's great to have another option. And nice writeup. Thanks

Been there done that and have always eventually been able to get it back so the computer sees the device as mtp. Wugs toolkit has always been helpful
To me. I like the step by step directions for manually updating the drivers and configuring them correctly in adb AND fastboot.
Bit I have come to an impass..........I am currently on the latest carbon nightly, with f2fs file storage for data and cache. My computer will not recognize the device in mtp and I am unable to pass files with a USB cable. I am wondering if my computer has to be compatible with f2fs, because iam sure that it is not. Will this make a difference PR should I once again uninstall and reinstall the drivers configuring them correctly?

Plug it in to a computer.
Boot into recovery if you have one
Adb devices......hopefully it shows and work from there.
Or boot into bootloader mode (after getting the twrp IMG)
Fastboot flash recovery......
Then you can side load your favorite OS

this worked for me im just passing along a possible fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2383146&page=389 post #3888 is the one I followed and been no problems since. also cpl days before in my sdk program google had updated drivers which may or may not have played a roll. before this I could not pass files with mtp only ptp would allow my device to appear. hope it helps!
edit also should note I did device manager then android devices removed drivers in there. plugged in n7 and the adb composite interface drivers installed and that was it. if that doesn't do it make sure sdk has updated google driver which should be 10.0.0 or something don't quite remember exact #
