I had a defective speaker and just received my warranty replacement. Can I just root with one click root and then nandroid restore a nandroid backup of my CM7 from my old phone, or do I need to start from scratch? Thanks.

I'd start from scratch. Seeing so many people having problems while installing this sounds like a good idea. Then just restore your apps and settings from TiBu (assuming you have one).
If you choose otherwise, please let its know how did iit go.

I had no success with restore by nandroid backup of CM7 Beta 6.
So, i start from scratch.
About apps, i always make restore with Titanium backup app.

hello,
despite asking a million questions about the process, i still haven't rooted, so my phone is as stock as stock gets. anyways so my girlfriend plays frozen bubble on my phone and she is at lvl 70 and she really wants to continue that even after the phone updates to froyo. so is there any way i can back the state of this particular app with all its settings and whatnot and restore it..
i dont want to save all my apps because i would much rather start customizing a clean phone, i just want to save this one app.
how do i do it?

i just rooted and then turned S-OFF
now im about to remove some apps, then i will install titanium backup, backup this one app, and then restore the stock recovery.
Let it backup everything as it is.
You don't have to restore everything. You can use it to restore just one app if you want.
That way, if you remove the wrong thing you can restore it.
Hi peeps, may sound like a noob question but can i back up using Rom manager download a completely different Rom flash it with the manager and then restore the backup?, wanna try cm7 coming from a sence rom. Just seems a bit too easy lol. Fancy a change and would love it to be that simple. Any helps good help cheers.

No, use titanium backup for that. Stay away from system settings/data cause it will mess things up.

Titanium just backs your apps, fully, with settings & all, so you can restore them when you go from one rom to another. Left my Desire identical to before after installing Leedroid rom: same apps, same settings, wallpaper, shortcuts... Great if you dont want to reinstall & configure apps. But it messed with my Market, obliging me to wipe Market's data & cache from time to time. It is very confusing & I dont know to what degree use it, really.
Nandroid makes a full copy of all your system, and you want to use it when you are not happy with a new rom, or disaster happens, and want to roll back.
So they are meant for different things

I know this is a noob question, but can someone please explain how to use Titanium Backup. I have been using Astro to backup my apps. I want to upgrade from CM6 to CM7 and I really don't feel like sitting here for 30 minutes pressing install for every app using Astro.
Buy the paid app because they free doesn't auto install. Then once it opens it will say backup and restore at the top click that then menu>batch>and backup all new apps and newer versions. Never backup or restore system apps it causes problems. Then once its done flash your new rom and really download titanium and click the top restore optionin the same menu page you backed up in. It should say restore missing apps with data. And you done

really tb does it automatically i always have to stay there pressing install..
Menu key-> batch restore... Beware of restoring data, as that can cause issues with your new rom.

I'm not a flashaholic, but do from time to time especially when a new version of my favorite ROM is released. I was wondering what the easiest and quickest to restore my phone to the way it was before flashing the new ROM. I mean apps and launcher. I have Titanium and My Backup pro but it still takes a couple of hours of messing around to get back to normal. If anyone has a quicker way I'd love to hear it.

I assume you have a custom recovery installed since you mentioned flashing roms? If so, do a complete nandroid/backup (CWM/TWRP) of your phone just prior to flashing anything (good idea to do this prior to any flash). In TWRP, you can name your backup file so you can remember what rom/kernel/modem/recovery/etc you had at the time of this backup. Usually takes around 5-6 min to back up ~ 2Gb (and conversely, to restore). When you restore, do proper partition wipes first, then restore your desired backup... phone should be exactly as it was (apps, launchers, rom, settings, etc).

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the nandroid have the rom you backed up? Restoring that backup will wipe the new rom.
I use titanium backup as well and it takes me less than 5 minutes to go back to normal. Apps and launcher the same.

I got you... thought you were looking for a way to restore a complete previous setup (rom/kernel/radio/data/recovery) if you didn't like the rom you are on... sounds like you just want to restore /data partition (which can be done in TWRP)... but won't restore system partition apps (risky). If you are just looking to put your previous 'user' apps/data back, TiBu is an option (only restore "user" apps/data or "missing apps/data". I don't think TiBu will restore your widgets/launchers as the were, but you can individually (within the app) backup Apex, and Nova launcher settings and homescreens... then restore them after you're up and running on the new rom

Titanium backup will do the trick but sometimes when restoring old data I've had some issues with lots of force closes and some other unexplainable strange things going on. It's best to start fresh on a new rom.
Titanium backup is your answer
If you back up apps and data from your personally installed apps, restoring should not cause any problems. If you try to backup and restore system apps and data across different roms (ie tw and aosp), you're likely to experience some problems.
When it comes to system data, it can be hit or miss. Generally the only thing that will likely break is contacts, as each provider (samsung, htc) puts their own spin on it, and it tends to not be compatible. but if you use google to store your contacts, you should be golden. After some time you'll know which parts are compatible across all roms (within the same version family).
So, backup everything you want to keep. And make a full nandroid.
Install your new rom.
Restore your personal apps and data (like angry birds)
Make sure everything is golden.
Make a nandroid
One by one, restore any system data you want (like accounts, wifi access points, mms).
After each one, go through a reboot cycle, make sure everything works.
Nandroid and restore next system data
This way you can easily back out of a restore that breaks something without having to start over again. And you will get a feel for what's restorable and what isnt.
Beware changing back to 4.1 from 4.2. There are threads on this worth reading.
And, yes, nandroid will restore everything just like you had it, assuming you choose to backup -everything- (which is advisable).

Titanium backup works like charm..but u can restore from nandroid backup too..just install nandroid manager app from play store and restore all ur data including call logs, sms n everything!!

Through philz CWM I'm currently having 3 roms in my back up. After installing a new rom, I just restore data and all my games data comes back without any problem.
