[Q] G2 Factory Data Reset W/O Losing ROM/Root - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just sold my G2 and I want to do a Factory Data Reset. Will I lose my root and my rom if I do this? The person i sold it to wants the root and rom.

If your just doing a factory reset from the settings menu then no you won't lose root or rom.
But what might be worth doing before you sell is do a data/system wipe in recovery and reflash the rom your using so the new owner has a nice clean install to play with.

[Q] factory data reset

i updated my s2 into the ics rooted. what will happen if i do the 'factory data reset' in the settings of the ICS. will it just wipe my internal card or go back to the gingerbread build?
No it will not. You'll still be on ics and whatever rom your using. Also, I wouldn't suggest you do a factory reset from within the phone or you can have complication. Boot in to recovery and factory reset from there.

[Q] How to wipe personal Data without losing root?

Hey guys, I'm going to sell my GNex this weekend. I'm looking to erase all my data and personal information without losing the root? Will i even lose root if i do a system hard reset?
First off. I have a backup of stock ICS. First day I got it from Google Play Store. I rooted it that night. Right now I have JB installed, and it's backed up as well as a Nandroid. So i have Stock ICS and JB (which i'm currently using)
So my main question. Before i sell this device. How do i go about erasing all my private info. like messages/contacts/emails etc.. and have it like it's brand new without losing the root?
Thanks,
Delete all the files in /sdcard and do a factory reset. You will still have root.

You could just boot into recovery and just do a factory reset/wipe and then just reboot the phone.
works like a champ

That will only work with the stock recovery. If he has cwm installed, it will leave the contents of /sdcard in place.

I do have CWM installed. I saw that if you just do the factory reset. that'll get rid of all personal data.
What about what's inside the SDcard? are those files important?
Also since i'm selling this. Should I delete my JB Nandroid and Stock ICS Backup ?
Thanks

My only fear (am I the only one that is paranoid) is that they will us a memory recovery tool to recover the contents. Is there a way to true wipe, write all 1's or 0's to the sdcard? If that is really a true wipe....
Just curious, I know there are programs out there that do it to hard drives.
Thanks

I believe the following command will do that (issued in fastboot mode): fastboot format userdata

Factory reset with custom Rom

I may trade my phone for a gs3 to a friend and he wants to keep the paranoid Android Rom I'm running.
Will a factory reset keep the Rom, but wipe my information off the phone? Also will it leave the internal sd card alone or so I need to wipe that too?
Thanks!

Yes a factory/data reset will wipe all you data. But not your internal storage. You can format that under settings/storage.
Like always make sure you do it in a safe recovery.

I'm running whatever paranoid Android (cm10) uses. I've flashed back to an ICS Rom from here to change my prl so I think I should be ok.

[Q] Help with Verizon Galaxy Nexus

Okay so I changed the font on my galaxy nexus when it was rooted and I disliked the font but didn't think about it so I locked and unrooted my phone and then factory reseted it thinking it would change back to the normal font. So how do I get my original font back? Please help me.
Flash stock ROM with fast boot or re root and flash a ROM that doesn't have a custom font

Unlock bootloader again, reflash your custom recovery (if needed)/ROM.

i dont know why everyone thinks factory reset fully places everything back to when they got the phone.
all it does is wipe your data and sdcard. nothing more.

He meant a factory reset from within Android itself, I'm sure.

correct. true factory reset, not custom recovery factory reset.
Huh. Weird.
Never knew factory reset does two different things depending on if you select it from recovery or settings. Doesn't make much sense imo. Glad I never selected factory reset from the settings menu then. Now that I know this I am wondering why we don't differentiate between the two, since they are two completely different options.

Good point.
I think its kinda between the lines, they're similar in the sense that both erase user apps/preferences, but custom recoveries also aimed to keep internal sdcard contents, something that's not possible with the "true" factory reset that Android had/has.
Unless stated, I assume a user that factory reseted, did it on a custom recovery.

Thank you both! Glad I learned this the easy way.

[Q] Factory Reset when rooted?

I apologize if this is covered elsewhere, I did not come across the question or answer in my search.
I have a Rogers Note II (GT-N7105/SGH-I317M).
It is running stock touch whiz 4.1.2. I had been running custom roms, but after their various issues, I am going with stock samsung at the moment.
I have TWRP installed as the custom recovery, and I used it to restore my backup I took right after rooting.
Not having any issues, but I am simply wanting to know if I can go into Settings >> Backup and Reset and the perform a factory reset of the phone to erase all apps and data.
I am not trying to unroot the phone or anything like that. This phone is a work phone and I am going to be turning it in for the Note 3 next week. I would like to erase my content before doing so, again, not trying to unroot it (I have the tools such as Triangle away, stock firmware and Odin) just want to do a wipe and reset it for the next person who may use it.
So again, the question. If I factory reset via settings will there be any issues or will it simply go back to a rooted blank rom with no apps data?
Or will I end up with a mess?
Thanks for the help!
Factory reset will only wipe your personal data that you entered nothing will affect system or any modifications on it you will see no mess just a clean phone

So I essentially will have a rooted phone with a romantic that is set back to stock? Which is exactly what I am trying to achieve.
The fact that I have twrp installed makes no difference?
Exactly it will not affect system you will have clean stock rooted with twrp installed
