I'm currently on SFR 1.1.0 and while I really want to try out EE03 I decided to just wait untill there is an official release that ACS can get their hands on
My question...Can I just flash the EE03 Modem while on SRF 1.1.0? I have seen people say it improved their 3G/4G indoors and I am all for that.

Yes you can... I did earlier today.
Yup, I flashed the modem and right away I noticed better signal. I'm running

My weak in house 4G signal got just a kunt hair better and 3G is still on wack. Doesn't respond sometimes, drops to 1x a lot, strange latency. But still I'm leaning towards sprint on that. I'm about to go on a modem flashing rampage, just for fun and insanity.
Works great

I'm running the dk28 modem now, for the first time ever. So far it seems ok, but nights and early mornings is when my 3G seems to work the best. It always acts up in the afternoon and later into the evening, so time will tell.
I decided to go full EE05 last night even if just to play around with it for a day or so. I'm really excited for an offical release so ACS can sink their teeth into it. SRF has changed my life haha.
I have noticed better signal outdoors with the EE03 modem but so far haven't really been able to test it indoors. I will report more of what I see later. Also I changed my PRL to the 1115 one so that could be positivly effecting the signal as well.
EE03 modem is working just fine on my Bonsai 4.1.1 b38. I also feel that the GPS is faster and I am getting a least one more bar in reception and 3G data but I'm not noticing any increased bars on 4G.
So I went back to SRF last night because I just wasn't handling not having EXT4 that well lol. But as for the EE03 modem and the 1115 PRL I am seeing positive results and a big difference in my 4G indoors.
I must be the ugly duckling.
Currently running Midnight 5.2, and yesterday I odin'ed the EE03 modem. Initially I thought it was better, but then I started getting really crappy bars of reception in a usually strong area. While on the phone, it sounded like I had gone back to the mid 90's with the cell phone!
So this morning I flashed back to EC05 modem - and my phone is back to normal.
Anyone else get a similar result?

I believe I heard someone that had similar results and they re-odin'd the EE03 modem and it fixed the issue so that may be worth a try. Also what PRL are you running and what state are you located in? I have found playing around with the few different PRLs that are out right now can be very useful to tweak your phone to the best signal for your state.

You may want to try PRL 60677 or 1115 with the EE03 modem if you are feeling adventerous and have some time
3G cuts out randomly and have to toggle airplane mode. Dumping this modem, going back to EC05. Maybe EE12 will fix this.

Thanks - "have some time" lol! For anyone else wanting to do this I followed these lengthy instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=898628
I first tried 60677
However after doing some research on PRL's http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056648 - it seems that Sprint pushes prl's to people (even rolling back updates) regardless of whether you hit "Update PRL" or not. Some suggested "freezing" SystemUpdates.apk as a possible fix to this.
Just for kicks and giggles, I hit "Update PRL" and it rolled me back to 60676! So I redid the steps and updated again to 60677.
Then I tried loading 01115. Again I hit "Update PRL" and it again rolled me back to 60676.
Long story short - Even if 60677 or 01115 "fixes" the issue I had yesterday, I'm going to have to re-Odin the ECO5 modem.

I follow the same instructions you linked over but I make sure not to hit Update PRL ^^ It will take effect with out choosing that and if you are on a custom ROM (at least most of them and I know SRF is one) Sprint can't get at the PRL you choose. It will stay in tact.

I would try the EK02 modem here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1367695
The EK02 modem may cure LOS and could potentially cure other problems such as what's discussed in this thread.
If you changed from EG30 to EG12/EG31, you cannot at this time go to the EK02 modem because it is not a full modem, just a "patch" to the EG30 modem
Background: Previously I was experiencing absolutely horrid battery life with the Epic Touch, Sprint even replaced the device with a brand new replacement and it still occurred. (When I say horrid battery life I mean I would watch a 21 minute show on Netflix via wifi and go from 100% to 72%) A full battery, phone untouched, wouldn't last 6 hours.
Anyway, I know that others have had this issue as well, and from what I've seen they are running the EG30 modem. (As was I)
When I odined to EG12 my battery improve significantly. (Not perfect but much better)
[Discharging from 99%] with constant usage/screen on the phone used 11%.
That's about what I'd use in 10 minutes previously.

Open odin, place modem.bin in phone slot, boot into download mode and start the process.
Important note, you cannot go back to EG30 at this point as it hasn't been successfully pulled from a phone.
Well just a word of warning, currently if you flash EG12, you can't back to EG30 and some people are reporting problems receiving calls when the phone is in sleep mode when using EG12.

I forgot to add that you can't go back at this point, I will add that to the OP.
As far as problems receiving calls? I have had NO ISSUE with that whatsoever and my phone has problems sleeping whether I have EG30 or EG12.
I think this "fix" is more of a remedy for a certain percentage of phones that are experiencing inexplicable excessive battery drain on the EG30 radio.

So this makes me wonder ... WTF is different from my EG30 bin, where I've gotten excellent battery life out of the box, and people like matty's? Is it possible that the hardware and/or software on the cell towers in matty's area is different from in my area, and the config in his area doesn't play nice with the stock radio firmware on this phone?
It's the only thing that makes any sense to me on these signal related battery issues. matty has even gone through two phones with the same issue. I'd think the chance of that is rather low, unless his region received a bad batch of phones.
I just don't get it.

I think we should have a thread where people post what major city they're in, their battery life for a full charge, and their modem. Maybe gathering this data could help resolve if its a tower thing.

I don't think it has anything to do with the towers. I had my phone in airplane mode when I was playing with different settings [with EG30] and the issues still existed.
I would be interested in knowing if there are different hardware versions besides the D710.10.
I still think it's a modem/kernel combo issue.

This thread has the folks who are reporting the issue that calls aren't coming through with EG12 when their phone is in sleep mode. If they connect their phone to USB power, they come through.

I'm not suggesting it will happen to everyone, just that these folks are reporting this experience for their setups.

I see that.
Obviously I wouldn't recommend flashing this if you aren't having the issue.
But to be completely honest with you, if you're having the battery drain that I'm talking about [and I've seen others with this issue too], it's pretty useless.
I mean, 6 hours of battery life with the phone not being touched dude.
But yeah, no call issues here.
Ensure those that are having call issues don't have there phones face down as the call will be silenced I believe if they have that setting enabled.

I won't say that it made me unhappy, as I already had an amazing phone...but...it certainly doesn't have me thrilled.
The EK02 rom is different, feels a little weird. Something about the over-scroll-glow execution feels funny. Sloppy or slow or something. But not bad, just different.
The EK02 kernel feels snappy and battery life seems a tad improved...though it's hard to tell this early in. It also does not play nice with EG31 modem from my experience. More LOS than I've ever experienced ever....in 10 minutes. EK02 kernel/modem should definitely go together. (though admittedly I haven't tried EK02 modem and EG30/EG31 kernel).
The EK02 modem is very unimpressive. I seem to get less signal and lower data speeds than with EG31. I mean, we're talking a very very minor difference here...only noticeable in fringe locations. But. I live and work in 2 of those very locations and I noticed it. Perhaps radio power is scaled down or something...just a tad...this might explain the seemingly better battery life and less-than-spectacular signal quality.
YMMV, and likely will...sometimes a lot.
I have called sprint twice asking to get this update sent to my phone and they tell me I have to wait my turn. What should I say to them when I call tomorrow?

I ran ek02 with eg31 modem since the leak came out. No LOS at all. I would say it is case by case. All in all I would say it is just like almost every other update. Slight differences but nothing to write home about. That's why I love Samsung. Updates are over rated....hardware is where its at and Samsung never seems to disappoint in that arena.

I have a feeling this is going to end up proving to be true. I got a signal boost (slight) on EK02 modem and EK02 kernel but after 24 hours I think my phone liked EG31 modem/EK02 kernel combination better. I didn't have a single issue on that setup and I think I am starting to see little issues using the EK modem/kernel combo on a 2.3.4 ROM. Now, things may be different when using EK 2.3.6 ROM but i love my current setup and am not ready to change it. This only applies to my setup but this may end up a find what's best for you thing in the end.

Right now I am on calk's 2.0.1a with the EK02 and the EK02 modem. The interface has been pretty glitchy but it might have to do with me running the new adw launcher ex update.
I went to disneyland tonight and I had the strangest thing happen... it showed no bars with a 3g signal, then it went down to an edge signal, back up to normal 3g with bars. It would continue this cycle even though I was sitting in the same spot. I restarted with no changes. Starting to doubt this ek02.
On eg31modem with the stock eg30 kernel it was running like butter.

Are you saying that Sprint/Samsung actually fixed the UI to accurately reflect what data connection you have, or were you monitoring it some other way?
Right now, the 3G icon shows whether you are on EVD0 or 1xRTT... It would be nice if it showed you were on 1x when you were on 1x! It probably would eliminate a lot of the "my 3g speed is crappy!" posts.

Disneyland has a problem with their towers. I have two friends that work there and experience the same issue. I also went there last Saturday and experienced the same. For some reason, if you are in or near Tomorrowland, your phone will get no service and kill its battery life trying. Anywhere else in the park, I seemed to get service perfectly fine but had data issues.

No benefits of any significance. They just used this maintenance update as an opportunity to update the ROM to Gingerbread 2.3.6 and make a few other minor tweaks that probably don't matter to most. The real meat of this update was about the kernel and modem.
Ya know, I was going to post a topic with something similar.
I have been watching and reading every thread since the leak last week of the EK02 and of all the reading I have done, I have not really seen anyone exclaiming about how much better their phone was after updating to EK02. I've seen a few remarks on slightly better quadrant and little to no LOS, but that's been about it.
After reading the Sprint official release info on this update, to me it seems like nothing was really addressed in this update, other than LOS and a move to 2.3.6. While I agree the LOS is a big, big problem and have experienced it a few times myself, I have much bigger issues with the phone that really needs to be addressed.
1) Does this release actually do anything for the crappy reception (both cell, data and wifi) that this phone gets compared to all my other android phones?
2) Does this fix the issues with gps not locking or taking forever (rather than me trying one of the 20 fixes posted that have not seemed to have worked for me yet)?
Maybe this is a dumb or n00b question, but is this just a quick fix bandaid for only LOS or is this the actual MR that we were hoping to come? If it's a bandaid, should we expect an actual MR to come anytime soon?
I guess I am just trying to figure out like the OP, what's the benefit? I was unfortunate enough to screw up a flash and had to Odin to E31 so I am trying to figure out now if it is even worth the effort to flash the E30 (that is finally available) and then upgrade to EK02.
Another n00b question, since the E30 was the missing part of the puzzle that was hampering progress for developers, will this mean that now that it's available, maybe some of my issues that really need to be addressed will probably get fixed first by a developer/xda before a MR ever happens or are these issues that will have to come from sprint/samsung?
Wowww. Sorry! Maybe there wasn't q&a section when I favorited a while back.

This was what my signal looked like using EG30 modem then EK02 modem. Notice all of the green in the signal now. Also, I pay for Hotspot. On 4g, if you were tethered and received a call, it would disconnect. That was also fixed.. LOS, that's really to be determined. I am still on 2.3.4 ROM but using EK02 modem and kernel. Only difference in the 2 screenies is the modem. As for the ROM itself, someone else would have to comment on that. I am waiting on flashing...for now

Like I said, the ROM update appears to definitely be the least important update of the three major pieces. Which makes sense. The EG30 ROM is/was pretty damn good.

I updated the modem to ek02 yesterday and it made a big difference in reception. I had to rely on an airave to make and receive calls since I had the Epic Touch. After the update I can actually have a conversation without relying on the airave. I can also use wifi at full speed without the need to stand next to the router. Only glitch is that I have had 1 LOS since the update. I will keep close eye on it to see if it appears again.

Well, you have to take into account I live in a GREAT signal area. I have 4 bar 4g service sitting on my couch. It seems like the signal strength is improved but if you are in a terrible signal area, it may only improve from terrible to bad.

Ok, flashed back to E30 with no issues...........other than I am getting SD Damaged issue after reboot. Was I supposed to pull the SD card?
Anyway, on to EK02. I don't know if I am getting too old but finding anything in these forums nowadays is becoming increasingly a pain in the arse with all the clutter. So far, the only EK02 modem that I see is for flashing with CWM.
1) Is this the one I am supposed to use?
2) I thought you couldn't do a full install with CWM, only a patch.
You either get the EK02 modem implicitly in the OTA patch update or you flash it manually through the CWM updater.
The EK02 CWM modem.bin update.zip is a patch install. It patches EG30 modem.bin to give you EK02 modem.bin.

Just putting an update that I suffered a LOS (circle with line) yesterday while in the back of a local Target. Let it sit for 10 minutes once i got back to my car and it didn't restore the signal. Had to reboot it...
Running caulkin 2.5.1
I also just updated to el13 and experienced an LOS just now. Had to hard reboot. I am unrooted on stock el13 rom, modem and kernal.
Did you guys have full bars or good signal when this happened? I am el13 modem and on blazer 3.1 and have not noticed any los. I only get the crossed out circle like once in front of mutt house, but that's because sprint's signal in my area sucks and I got service again within a few seconds.

Lol.
Could we possibly stop using the word "suffered" when talking about LOS in general?
(yes, I know that "by definition", it's acceptable)
It just sounds so dramatic.
I typed "Man Suffers from" into a search bar, and got all but one of these results:
1) Man suffers from frostbite: loses both legs and one of his arms.
2) Man suffers from chemical burns on over two-thirds of his body.
3) Man suffers fatal crash injuries...
4) Man suffers when, temporarily, his portable telephone just wouldn't work right.
Is it just me?

I'll have to agree with #4 on that list. These days people have no lives and are over dramatic about everything. Now, if only LoS would kick in on people when they're driving...
OP, how about telling us what 'EL13' you have. Everything or just the rom, kernel, or modem? That matters a lot. Mostly because anyone who's done the full update, not just one or the other, isn't having LoS issues from everything I've read.
The short version - you're not the first to claim this.

There is no such thing as Stock EL13. El13 is a leamed ROM. Only roms that come from sprint are stock.

I've gotten data LOS a couple times since EL13. The phone worked, but when I tried to open the Market or anything else that needed data, it just told me there was no connection to server. Rebooting is the only thing that fixed this issue.
I NEVER got voice or data LOS of any type on EG30 or EK02.
I'm running Calk's 2.5.1 E4GT ROM too btw. The only ROM's I've ever ran are his E4GT ROM's.
Are all of you using the EL13 modem along with an EL13 rom and kernel?
Also, if you've themed your rom you really should go back to stock EL13 and test from there instead of posting about LoS in a rom you've changed.
Not saying this isn't possible but then again it could just be your phone. But posting "I have LoS on EL13" give us nothing. EL13 what? What all have you changed since going to your current setup?
Believe it or not - those things matter. Otherwise this is a pointless whiny thread.

To me "Stock"= (not modified) it does not mean offical.
EL13 Rom/Kernel/Modem and no LOS for me. With the EG30 kernel built from source I would get LOS constantly but not on the stock pulled one.

I know what you are referring "stock" as, for you:
stock=official rom..etc release as in EG30/EK02
Again for me:
stock= a rom..etc not modified
So there is two ways looking/meaning at the work "stock"
Since this tread is talking about "EL13" we all know it is not a official release, but as a tech in order to trouble shoot you need to start at a stock ref point. Meaning no modification added to the rom.
Yes if I took the phone to sprint I would return it to stock meaning official software released in this context.
Example: Just look at the development, you see "EL13 stock rom..etc" this and that. If a person does not know better he would think this is a official release but most people would know it is an unofficial release with no modification add.
So in this context stock means no modification.
Many words take on different meanings depending on the ways it is used, if you want to really be correct my sig could say "unofficial stock EL13" meaning it is not a official rom but I have not made any modification to the rom.
unofficial=not stock
stock=not modifiied
I had ghost LoS yesterday. Phone calls weren't working nor texts or Data. Had to reboot. EL13 on Calk's 2.5.1.
I thought I was getting Los but only with certain apps. Mainly call master. i love the app but damn it ****s with telephony service. EL13 rom and modem. Since I got rid of call master no Los what so ever. I would have stuck with E0k2 but wanted a rom with no traces of CIQ.
I was at kernel EK012 with clockwork then I flashed Calkulins v2.5.1 and flashed the new senzation theme and I am currently at kernel el13

Well, I have a Galaxy S3 on Sprint. Lately I've been noticing that my phone has not even been accessing any 3G. I remember I flashed the LJ7 modem when trying out the GOODNESS ROM a month ago and I have a feeling that has something to do with it. So my question is, how can I find out what modem my phone is currently using? Right now I'm running MIUI v4 (Beta Build 6) with the KT747 kernel. What modems are available to my phone? Where can I find flashable modems? And if anyone lives in NY, what is the "best" modem for my area?
Thanks in advance!

I'll answer your questions, but not remotely in the order you asked ('cause I'm a bit ornery 'cause of tooth pain, or more specifically, lacking-my-wisdom-teeth-pain).
I don't live in NY, so I don't know which baseband would work best for you. What part of NY (Upstate, NYC)?
In Freeza's stock Rom Thread, he has the current modem (MB1) and the various older modems available for download. Note: the old versions are under the spoiler tag.
In terms of availability, the baseband is independent from the Rom, so it shouldn't affect you which modem you flash.
And finally, to check what your currently running, look at your Settings --> About Phone. What you're looking for is the last 3 digits of the Baseband. Below is what mine looks like (from when I was running CarbonRom a month or two ago):

Wow, thanks for all that man. I really appreciate it. Flashing the MB1 modem now so hopefully that will fix my connectivity issues.
I live in the city in NY, downtown Chinatown actually. I work in Manhattan though and used to pick up decent 3G signals all over but lately it's been sitting on 1x and that lead me to believe that something was wrong.

I know that as Sprint does network upgrades, they will take down some towers. A lot of people across the nation have been experiencing slow speeds because of that. I can't say with any certainty that this is what's happening to you, but it might be worth calling Sprint customer support to just ask if they're doing upgrades in lower Manhattan.
Oh, and on a side-note, last time I was in Chinatown (NYC), it was 2008. I was staying up by Colombia Medical School and had to catch a 8AM bus to Philly that was leaving from Chinatown. I had gone out drinking the night before and had altogether too much (should've stopped at the 4th or 5th glass of scotch). The subway ride down to 2nd was a blur, but the hangover kicked in about halfway to Philly. And boy, was it a doozie! Anyways, don't drink, it's bad for you.
Can anyone clear this up for me? I'm a little confused on which DL link in that thread is only for the baseband, it looks like they're all to update the entire phone for a stock ROM. I only ask because everywhere I look the MB1 modem is left out and I'm looking for that modem

MB1 Firmware:
MB1 Firmware/modem/baseband update

It's the seventh link on the page.
The ones under the spoiler tag (look for the button underneath "Old versions") are everything older than the current one. Each of the files updates the firmware/baseband/modem. I don't think there is just a "modem update."

Thanks but according to flastnoles11's post you can flash only the modems just for your future reference in case you want to flash a different modem yourself
Well I'm running MB1 now and still have not been able to connect to 3G. I can make phone calls, text, and browse the web on 1x, but I cannot establish a 3G or 4G (Laugh, in NY, yeah right) connection.
I think I'm going to attempt to contact Sprint like topherk recommended, but apparently their site is undergoing maintenance and I can't even contact support that way. I don't want to bring my phone into a store so I think I'll try to call them on my lunchbreak tomorrow. That may explain why the signals are terrible right now but I personally find it unacceptable that in New York City, Sprint can't manage to provide the greatest speed connections and the most reliable service of their entire network. If I wanted the most positive customer buzz for my product where I had a presence in New York City that is where my product would be best represented. I have been being told I have or would have Sprint 4G for YEARS and they just aren't delivering. My most frequent exact location? 200 ft from Times Square and I live in Hells Kitchen with is 3 blocks from Times Square. Maybe I'm a little hissy about this but with most things I expect to get what I pay for, as advertised. If there were a remake of Rainman I'm sure he would say, "Sprint sucks".

Either that or you didn't update profile and prl on a tw ROM. Not sure what you are running right now, but if you flash a modem while on aosp, you gotta go back to tw and update profile and prl.
Edit: Just read your OP again. Saw that you are on miui. You definitely need to flash a touchwiz ROM and update your profile and prl. I'm pretty sure that is your issue and sprint may be BS'ing you.

Okay, is there anything specific I have to do to update the profile/prl? For example, if I flash JellyBomb v14, can I just flash the ROM, boot into it, go through the default setup, then reboot back into recovery and reinstall MIUI through a nandroid backup?

Cool, well I just flashed Goodness, started the default setup and was presented with a window saying "Android is currently upgrading.."
I let that play through and was presented with "Update complete."
So I'm wiping data/cache and flashing back over to my nandroid of MIUI now, hopefully that will solve my connectivity issues. If not, then maybe Sprint was telling the truth about them doing work in my area.
Thanks for letting me know that though. I had no idea I had to flash to a TW ROM after updating my modem
