I need help unrooting my device - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well, it appears I have a PVT4 Desire,
These are the details I get in the (down+power) screen
Code:
BRAVO PVT4 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
MICROP-051d
TOUCHPANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-5.11.05.14
Aug 10 2010, 17:52:10
I have rooted it using the Unrevoked method, and all went well, except for when I boot into recovery, then I get the error's
Code:
ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.07
E:Can't find MISC:
E:Can't mount CACHE:recovery/command
E:Can't find MISC:
E:Can't mount CACHE:recovery/log
E:Can't find MISC:
I tried to make a nandroid backup, but I got errors and none were made.
So, I read more into the thread, and realised that I should have made a Gold Card first, and I read into that also, and made one, even though the superuser app "installed", and I can't seem to find the RUU for this phone. It was originally on the Hutchinson 3G network, but I had unlocked it.
Can anyone help me? I also tried running some apps that require superuser permissions, and Titanium Backup failed, and adfree android reboots the phone every time. Then, I tried using Unrevoked with RA recovery, and then I get the error, Error: failed to get root. Is your firmware too new?
I tried this again, and it did not work, then I tried it with regular clockwork, and it still did not work. I know I screwed up here, and I need some enlightenment.
Thanks for reading and for any advice you could provide.

Try an Ruu :

Oh, but I don't know which to use.
I would post the details of the software and such, but it doesn't let me post it because my post-count is too low, and I'm not allowed to post links, though, I don't see any links at all.
I have
Code:
Baseband version
32.48.00.32U_5.11.05.14
And I can't find the relevant RUU.

what's the S/W version when you boot into Android (assuming you've not flashed a new ROM yet)?
EDIT: I'm guessing it 2.25.771.1? If so, here's the RUU you need:
http://www.multiupload.com/J230M5J8UD
The issue you have is you need to use the AmonRA recovery with a PVT4 Desire, not CWM

dont have a clue

It doesn't let me post my software number, apparently the forum sees it as a link, and prohibits me from posting.
But yeah, that is my software number, thank you very much.
How would I go about installing AmonRA? I tried installing by Unrevoked, and I get the "Error: failed to get root. Is your firmware too new?" error.
Sorry about my inability to understand this stuff, I'm coming from a ZTE Blade and everything was incredibly straightforward, for the desire, there is alot to learn.

Try running unrevoked again with amonra recovery. Give it a go and report back.
P.S. Do you want to unroot it or to fix recovery?

Thank you again, I read around, and saw that I should use Unrevoked 3.21 instead of 3.22, and I just did, and it worked, I have RA recovery running.
But I would still like to know how to unroot, just in case.

Just run that RUU I posted, connect your phone in FASTBOOT mode and off you go (assuming you have the HTC Sync drivers installed)!

Brilliant, thank you!
Edit: I know this is OT but is it safe to flash custom roms now that I have RA recovery running?
Or are there any things that I should do before hand?
And if I have a Custom rom running, can I use the RUU to revert to stock?

New Desire user, rooted with Unrevoked, S-ON present, can I install MIUI?

Hello XDA,
I just purchased a brand new Desire and need a little bit of help because all the searching still left me with a few a questions. First of all my phone info:
HTC Desire, bought today unlocked from a German T-Mobile store, shipped with Froyo 2.2
BRAVO PVT4 SHIP S-ON

MICROP-051d

I rooted with the Unrevoked method which was successfull, ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.7 was successfully installed though it mentions:
ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.7
E:Can't find MISC:
E:Can't mount CACHE:recovery/command
E:Can't find MISC:
E:Can't mount CACHE:recovery/log
E:Can't find MISC:
Does this mean anything?
I noticed I still have S-ON which means my NAND security is still enabled and my goal is it to flash a MIUI ROM, am I good to go or not?
Please be gentle, I'm new to all this, thanks in advance!
EDIT: I just found out about Erasesize 40000, guess I'm screwed regarding to MIUI?
I have the same phone specs and would like to know the same
So free bump
You should be ok......MIUI is just a ROM. Try to flash it.
SkyDX could you reply in this thread if your flash worked?
Thx in advance
You need the custom clockworkmod recovery for pvt4 devices.. somewhere in the rom dev section. The errors in clockwork will then disappear.

Thank you everyone! I have seen this custom Clockwork and will consider flashing it, although for now I wont do it, I might have to return my Desire on monday, our dog got sick and she needs a surgery which isn't cheap.
On-topic, I have read the whole Erasesize 40000 thread and there's one thing I still don't get:
If I install the custom Clockwork it will work and I can flash certain custom ROMs I got so far but has anyone ever tried a MIUI ROM? And would it be advised to make a Goldcard? I don't think I could RUU if anything happens because I haven't seen a German T-Mobile Froyo RUU
UPDATE: Flashed the new Clockwork, no errors and I made a full Nandroid backup, am I safe to try a rom from MIUI-AU? Could be that I got something wrong about S-ON but will restoring a Nandroid backup work with S-ON?
You're safe. It's just clockworkmod recovery difference, the actual Rom resides in the system.

[Q] Problems after successfully rooting HTC Desire with Unrevoked

Hello everyone,
I decided that I'd like to finally replace my phone's rom with Cyanogenmod. This post will most likely cover the things that I have done so far and I'd appreciate if you can identify where I could have gone wrong or what I still need to do.
I first went to the site and looked through the wiki on how to install it.
I used the unrevoked method. At first I had difficulties with trying to get it to work as the software didn't seem to detect my phone. So I googled around and found out that one way to fix it was to install the HTC Sync software (thus installing the needed drivers to be able for unrevoked to identify my phone). I found this at some blog I found in the comments section of theUnlockr.
So I run unrevoked and it worked. I now have root access to my phone. Tested it on the terminal by typing su.
I downloaded the Rom Manager from the market (following the step in the cyanogenmod wiki) and updated ClockworkMod to 2.5.0.7
After a couple of tinkering I found out that there's this error when I start recovery mode.
Code:
E:Can't find MISC:
E:Can't mount CACHE:recovery/command
E:Can't find MISC:
E:Cant' mount CACHE:recovery/log
E:Can't find MISC:
I didn't pay attention to this.
So the next step for me would be to back up everything. SMS, apps, and then finally do a backup of the rom.
So back to the recovery mode. I go on and select 'backup and restore' from the recovery menu and I get this error:
Code:
SD Card space free: 664MB
backing up boot...
Error while dumping boot image!
E:Can't mount CACHE:recovery/log
E:Can't find MISC:
Ugh... So I google around for some info on this and found out a similar problem with mine. The recommended solution was to install AlphaRev on the phone, but unfortunately did some damage to the phone. The poster can only get as far as the bootloader and recovery. Has something to do with the phone being PVT4. I think the newer version of Alpharev handles that already.
Now I look around tutorials on how to install alpharev on my phone to gain S-OFF, but most of the tutorials I found recommends that I do a backup. How I could I do that if it doesn't work in the first place?
So then I decided to replace Clockwordmod with Amonra (lots of googling again) then I stumble upon this site where one can install Amonra in three ways: bootloader, Rom Manager, and terminal. Though not sure whether it would be applicable to my phone, I gave it a shot.
Bootloader: I downloaded the PC36IMG.zip file, placed in on the sdcard. Started on bootloader and crossed my fingers. Didn't work.
Rom Manager: I downloaded the free app. Unfortunately, the "Flash Alternative Recovery" is disabled.
terminal: typed this
Code:
flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-RA-supersonic-v2.3.img
and just gave me a "flash_image not found"
Okay... by then I'm getting a little bit frustrated. I started this endeavor around 10am and got to this step at around 4pm. It's 8pm now as I'm typing.
Back to my problem. Now I decide to try to replace using unrevoked. I try to use the software again but now there's an error that says that unrevoked cannot get to root and that the firmware may be a new version.
TL;DR
1. successfully rooted HTC Desire using unrevoked
2. Having trouble with Clockworkmod (Can't do backups)
3. Unable replace Clockworkmod with Amonra.
I am now at wit's end. I really don't know what to do now. I wouldn't attempt to install Alpharev without doing a back up. Even more so with trying to install cyanogenmod.
Any form of help is greatly appreciated.
NOTE: This is a cross post. I posted this question at the general QA section but I was not getting any responses. Since this is a Desire-related question, I hope I won't get that much flack for posting here as well.
Sounds like you have a PVT4 Desire which needs AmonRA installed not CWM

Yes. I read about it. Unfortunately I didn't read it BEFORE I thought of using unrevoked.
What FW are you on at present? Boot up, go to Settings>About phone>Software information and post up the Software version
If you can get the RUU you can go back to stock and start again - would mean losing all data but at least it'd work. Otherwise you're gonna have to go down the S-OFF route to flash the recovery manually
You just need to replace cmw by amon ra in unrevoked. That'll do it
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
You just need to run unrevoked again and before connecting your phone, select a custom recovery (amon ra) in unrevoked.
No need to return to stock.
If it does not work for the first time, try again and again. Sometimes unrevoked will give you strange errors, but when you try it again it will work.

I tried that. By installing HTC Sync again and running the RUU that I downloaded here in this site. The problem is that the device somehow disconnects whenever I run the RUU.

As I mentioned in the original post, unrevoked doesn't work. It says that it can't get to root and probably my firmware is too new.
Thank you for the responses.
You need this (better link so download it again to be safe):
http://hotfile.com/dl/80036791/8a6c...5.09.05.30_2_release_143921_signed.exe.ht ml
Then follow this guide to extract out the PB99IMG.zip so you can flash it without a PC:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10509780&postcount=102
As I said above, flashing the RUU WILL delete all data so you'll have to start again but should work. If not, you'll need to downgrade first using this guide then run the Asia RUU again:

Thank you very much. Will do this and will keep you posted on my progress.
Good morning.
I downloaded the RUU found in the link you provided and I managed to extract the rom.zip and renamed it to PB99IMG.zip. But when I go into HBOOT, it can't seem to find the file.
loading PB99IMG.zip
No image!
What do you think could be the problem?
I reformatted the SD card with FAT32 and copied just the PB99IMG.zip and finally it worked.
Currently loading the img...
Will keep you posted
I finally got it working. Now using CyanogenMod 6.
Thank you very much for the replies!
I have the same problem as him. tried to download the RUU but links are broken. Found another RUU in other forums but prompt says that
"Error: main version is older!"
can you update the links and I'll try downloading your RUU. Any help appreciated

AlphaRev 1.8 error!! Please help!!!

Hello everyone,
I am new to this whole android business. Ok so I just rooted my Mytouch 3G Slide and was going to use AlphaRev 1.8 to gain S-off on my device. Well everything was going good and then suddenly I got an error message saying that HBOOT 1.02 is not supported!!! I have been through hell and back just to get my device rooted and with that finally becoming successful I am hoping someone out there can help me with either another way to gain S-off or tell me how I can downgrade my HBOOT. That is another problem... I tried to downgrade my HBOOT with a method on another post here on XDA developers and I got an error during recovery saying that HBOOT can not be rolled back!!!! WTF Someone please help me with these issues I would greatly appreciate it!!!!!!!
The new HBOOT cannot be downgraded, so if you have that, S-off isn't possible as far as now. Yup, we're out of luck D:

first, check if you have update.zip in the root of your microsd card.
as far as s-off goes: if you have the new HBOOT (version 1.0+), then s-off is a no go until somebody figure it out. if you have the old HBOOT (version .52 or something), check AlphaRev and their instructions.

[Q] My phone is half-rooted

Ok, yesterday I was quite bored of my phone because it was pretty slow and there were many apps on it. Cyanogenmod looked like a good option so I decided to root my phone using unrEVOked 3.32 in this guide. UnEVOked didn't work, it came up with a "is your firmware too new" message. Everyone was saying how good revolutionary was, so I downloaded that and it came up with a message (cant remember what). I checked for Superuser app and tested to see if my phone was rooted, but all the apps said I wasn't. But when I go to the HBOOT menu, it says Revolutionary and S-OFF (before I used Revolutionary it said S-ON). I think this means my phone is half-rooted and I need to find a way to go back to the stock HBOOT and S-ON because my phones screen won't turn off (it just is very dark when you press the power button but you can still see the lockscreen).
In short I need to find a way to get back to the stock HBOOT and get S-ON again. I am also still quite a noob so I won't understand very technical instructions. Plz help
Revolutionary simply gives you S-OFF. And if in the last step, you selected Yes to install Clockworkmod Recovery, then it install Clockworkmod Recovery. To get actual root (ie Superuser), you must get the binary and flash it seperately. (Which is available here: - http://goo-inside.me/superuser)
Anyway, the procedure to get back to S-ON is stated here:
