Hi If I Root my HTC Desire and for the moment do nothing else ,will my phone be any faster and can I download better Apps ,or do I have to Flash another ROM.
Chris
There are sooooo many posts about this..... Ever heard of the search button??
No mate... Rooting will not give you any advantage as such you will have to flash a custom rom for that!!
@dexter atleast answer the question before flaming the poster to go look for search button.... I think your post is as useless as the person not using the search feature.

Your phone doesn't get faster,... with root permissions.
You can install another kernel (I don't know if it works with the stock rom to "overclock" the cpu and use e.g. SetCpu to set the min and max frequences.
The best way to customize the phone is a Custom Rom - just go to the Desire Android Development forum to have a look at them.
You are able to install more apps (just search for root in the market) and a Custom Rom, Kernel,...
So please have a look at the forum (noob threads, Roms,...)

Hi!
I heard its possible with some rom to choose "reboot" when long pressing the off button?! (defrost or opendesire)
Now I was wondering if this mod is available for devices running other roms. I really miss this feature, since I use the original HTC Rom (with root) for the moment.
Could someone please tell me where to find this mod?
Cheers
Korbi
I believe with HTC's griphold on their phones, it may not be possible at the moment.
I don't see why someone cannot add this feature, although it will be alot of work compared to the non-sense android Roms, which are more easier to modify.
Personally, I don't see a use for it, as i have a reboot to recovery in RomManager, or I could just press the Power button again =/

Thanks for the answers.
@Danifamous:
I dindt quite get, why it shouldnt be possible? Open Desire or Defrost are HTC based ROms, too...
@cyron_at:
thanks, but I think this tool only enables reboot via widget, doesnt it? Since the space in my homescreen is very limited, its not really an option for me...
I am still hoping to find a solution, so please keep on posting =)

Thanks for the hint!!!
Is there any way I could use this mod without installing Your rom??? I am quite happy with my current setup, but would like to have this option. Could You perhaps provide a mod, which does this?

Please, can you explain howto do this mod?
So I recently got the Desire Z from Bell (Canadian)
This is what I wanna learn
-How to install various, cool themes.
-Rooting? Is it necessary for themes, I read something about it needed for changing the boot animation or something.
-Taking full advantage of my phone, customizing it somewhat heavily.
That's about it, thank you !
Welcome to the forums,
If you want to take full advantage of your phone you will want to root it. All the information you will need is here.
Make sure you read everything carefully and if you have any questions please search first before starting a new thread.
Once you have rooted, you will want to install a custom ROM. The best for themes in my opinion is CM7, it has a built in theme chooser that allows you to easily change the way your phone looks.
Custom bootanimations can only be installed on a rooted phone, there are loads of threads on the forum with different animations and guides about how to install them.
Thank you for your assistance and the welcoming. I can see that rooting looks like a complex thing to do. Do i need to root my phone in order to use the cm7 app/rom?
Thanks

You need to be rooted to install a custom rom, I know it can seem a bit daunting, but just read everything a couple of times and follow the instructions to the letter. Here is the link to the wiki with rooting instructions http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision. You will need to know what software version you currrently have.

Hi,
Does the stock rooted ROM support custom boot animation. If not, is there a list of ROM/Kernels that support custom boot animations from Romtoolbox, etc.

so, let me get this straight, you want a list of ALL roms and kernels that support custom boot animation, and seeing as there isn't one, expect people to make you one because your to lazy to go back to dev section and read the posts and find out for yourself?..
If the kernel supports bootanimations it will say in the forum thread...
And think, stock is in NO way custom, if your installing a "custom" bootanim, you seriously think the two go together?
Common man the phrase is called common sense..

I think, i did made it clear enough. I'm on rooted stock. As per one of the threads, i was able to change the boot animation to the International S2. That made me think that we can change to a custom one as well. If we cannot, the answer would have been a simple 'No' , there was no need to spend your time on writing a comment this long. Or maybe you have enough time and want to waste it. Anyways, i would request Admin to close this thread as it is of no use. Thanks anyway.

Depending on what kernel you have you can use a custom boot animation. There is a way to get lots of free boot animations you just have to pay for the app. Download from toolbox from Google play (market) then go to where it says customization. Then go to boot animations and pick which one you want. Then click on it and install it. You should be good to go. Lemme know if this is what you wanted.

Thanks for this info. That was helpful. Another quick question, I'm running stock ROM + Kernel and i'm rooted. Will it support these custom animations. If not, i'll look for another kernel then. Thanks.
This thread is meant for people with questions regarding my Kitkat ROM.
Why did I create this thread?
I want to keep my Development thread clean.
What can I ask/post about?
Almost anything, as long as it is related to me or the ROM.
Some examples;
"Does INT2EXT work with this rom?"
"Does supercharger work with this rom?"
"Where are you from?"
And so on...
Feel free to help each other out! And please, stop posting about this in the development thread.
Well I now feel officially obliged to apologize for ****ting in your development thread.

Nice idea, thanks
Here's my problem: GTalk crashes when people call me (voice chat).

Good idea starting this thread. So here's my first question :
Does Netflix app work for you w this rom (latest version)?
For me it instantly shuts down when I start the app.

I had it installed on P11. You have to patch services.jar (there's a windows tool to do it for you here).
I had a lot of freezing problems before and after installing it. They weren't the same after I installed it; not necessarily better, just different. I have no way of knowing if it was supercharger or an app or some sort of interaction between two or more things.
I'm on 3.1.0p1 now and I have no intention of using supercharger because my Desire is more responsive and better at multitasking now than it ever was on Gingerbread with supercharger.
sorry to ask what exactly is/does supercharger?

I tried supercharger to jb/cm10 and I had no problem at all I believe the same would be for p1 but at the moment I run without supercharge and looks that the rom doesnt need it.

I can't say, I don't use my desire. But.. If someone else here were to install Netflix (No need to login, just try to start) that'd be great.
Get me a logcat and I'll see what I can do.
adb logcat -c <press enter>
adb logcat > netflix.txt <press enter> and start netflix. then upload it somewhere (like pastebin?)
I would ask for Aroma Installer with which we can be able to choose between different scripts (A2SD and INT2EXT) and misc.
And....what about trying Cyanogenmod settings to be able to customize even further?

Using Aroma = more bugs. No thank you.
Well.. That's Cyanogenmod and not Evervolv.
Hi Nikez, Just curious, any reason you use a2sd and not other scripts (d2ext, int2ext etc)? Speed, stability? So people won't ask and try other alternatives as you as dev explain the benefit.
By any chance, did anyone try endomondo on the new p1 release? On p11 I had a problem that every time I tried viewing the map, the phone froze.. not sure if it was some issue with gapps. Anyone hit anything similar?
@nikez thanks for the awesome JB ROM. My Desire is still kicking along after nearly 2.5 years!
I have just installed the latest update 3.0.0p11, flashed the 4.1.2 version of google apps (gapps-jb-20121011-signed) and setup app2sd.
When I view the available space using Titanium Backup I only have 36.8kB free in System Rom partition. Is that normal on stock Hboot?
Also, I installed the latest Google Calendar update from the Play Store. I now have two calendar apps installed. Has anyone else tried this yet? Do I need to remove the other one from /system?
I would like to thank you deeply for this amazing ROM. I've been searching a perfect rom for a long time, but I think I am very close to end my search now while using your ROM. Very fast, very versatile, almost stock ROM. I love simplicity and this is absolutely perfect.
The only problem I had was a problem with camera - I know this is an annoying issue with many ROMs and it's probably not very well made in the Android itself. Do you think it will get better? I understand that it probably does not depend on you, but I believe this is the last thing that is truly missing to your ROM. (But I am no power user, just a casual user).
And again, thank you for (imho) the best Jelly Bean ROM available here, and I am seriously considering a donation. Keep up the good work!

I'm taking over a friends old R800i next week and I'm really looking forward to it since I've wanted one of these since about when it was released.
What I'm looking for is a rom that gives me all the usual stuff - GSM connection, working 3G, wifi, gps, sms, mms, camera - but, will a custom rom give me better performance for emulation?
I want to be able to emulate all kinds of consoles without losing too much performance due to the rom - nor do I want my battery to get drained while the phone isn't in use. I'm of course ready to try a bunch of roms and I have looked at some of the threads, without learning much to be honest. I'm not even up to date with who's roms are the stable ones or which is the highest SE provided rom for Play either.
Looking to emulate N64, nes, PS and sega genesis, mainly.
If you root and debloat the stock rom, you will get excellent gaming performance. I went rom using custom roms and went back to stock as it provided the best performance all around.

Well Pizza_dox is an asshat refusing to answer on relevant questions in the thread he made for "the perfect setup", so I need a reliable source to go after since I have no idea what following the guide he provides will actually do to the phone (and I'm not going to learn by failing, hence why I ask questions which she/he refuses to respond properly to)

Please act respectful: PizzaDox has opened many manu threads, and he can't be repling at all of them.
Anyway debloating a rom is simple and can be done by everyone that wants to, by extracting the system.sin from your .79 ftf, dumping its data with flashtool in order to make it a yaffs img, extracting it with a yaffs extractor and then removing the apps located into "app" that you consider as bloat
