If I can't figure it out, at one point it was okay yesterday then it came back so im thinking its a background program and when I reboot it starts up

This has been covered extensively, it's the Quick Launch function. If you don't use it, go into Settings/Applications/Quick Launch and turn off all the key mappings there.

Hi,
So I've just rooted my Desire, installed clockwork recovery etc, but my central button doesn't work so I can't select any option... What can I do to fix this problem?
I've tried ButtonRemapper, but you need full root for that :/
the trackball doesnt work? In recovery or android or both? Did it work before?
Thanks for the details.
It's just broken... It isn't software-related, but I need it to select the option in the clockwork recovery, whereas in the original recovery menu, you had to press the power button to select the options...
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
I use power button in recovery to select options

It'd help if you shared what recovery you're using. Most recoveries just screen-off when you press power.
Sorry mate, clockworkmod 2.5.0.7

really? I use that and that's all it does.. hmm weird
Really? It's strange though, at first when I press it I get a black screen. Then after a while a message appears at the bottom that says back menu button enabled, after that I can use either the power button or optical track pad to make a selection.

Are you sure? It would really help if it works... I'm still stuck since yesterday :/ Have been looking for a recovery that uses the power button to select an option.
EDIT: Found how it works! I just spammed the volume button a couple of times, and I get the same message! thank you so much, I can now use my power button to select the options
Excellent! I just go nuts on the buttons to get it to work too lol.. Glad to hear you got it figured out

I really don't care to bother to make changes the phone in the framework begin to add new power menus and all that. I hussy need a command to make a shortcut to reboot my phone with the traditional shut down on all Android phones today for better results with my problems.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
I'm pretty sure all those extra toggle reboot options all reboot the "traditional way"

You could always search the market for a power widget like this one:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...NvbS5mcmFuY2VzY29hdXJpbm8ucmVib290d2lkZ2V0Il0.
Probably much easier than typing in a terminal command.
This is probably the nicest thing that could have been done. Thanx bro

The program if nifty buy i'm looking for a regular restart not the quick one. Meaning I like the restart when I hit power off and I world like it to go into a reboot instead of a shut down.

So you want it to restart when you hit power off, but you want it to reboot instead of shut down? Why? Why don't you just hit restart to uh restart?

Okay. I'd you use the 2.3.6. Roms like bluray or darkside the power menu has a reboot button which does not make a shortcut and closes out all the Android sessions and then reboots. I really like that style of reboot which make the Phone have better performance or sessions with Android. I really like to keep a much detail as possible when I can but I don't get how to describe what in looking for without mentioning others people power menus.

I am trying to figure out what you want. I think you want what is called the "extended power menu" with hot reboot?
No just a regular one with the shut down animation
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Menu is okay but a terminal command is better so I don't have to change the ROM I have, i'm using stock with streamline kernel and v6 tweaks and don't want to change the current power menu unless it won't happen any other way.

I can't figure out what you want. A shutdown animation now? I don't understand
I think he's just trolling. He wants to restart but not restart, just a restart that restarts like a restart

I would settle to flash a menu but I really don't want to mess with the ROM. I like the reboot on the power menus but i'm not willing to make changes to my ROM right now since its running so awesome. I just want to get a command like a terminal command for a reboot from the power menus which have the whole entire not a quick but a complete reboot instead of the quick one, that's all.

I have a droid incredible 2 with android version 2.3.5, and miui version 112300. I have had a few problems with it. First of all, it won't let me pick up when people call me. I can call people, just not pick up. And then out of no where my lock button stopped working. I have to plug it in to unlock it and basically have to keep it on all day. I've done a reset and it didn't do anything. What should I do? Please help!
Maybe your lock button is faulty?
I think you can add an option for your volume buttons to wake up the phone.

If I remember correctly miui 12.9 was the last usable build. Not saying that's what's wrong- just food for thought. 12.30 had issues

maybe do a full wipe and reinstall will work
I have heard of those buttons going bad.
Use the volume rocker wake option. If you need to use the power button try taking the back off, then use it.

On my note 2 you have to press the power button pretty hard to get the screen to turn on. Will T-Mobile replace the phone in store? I also have insurance. My phone is running rooted stock. Should I restore it to complete stock?
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda premium
Why don't you just use "Smart Screen ON" from Play Store and don't ever use your power button again.
It's also much cooler to just waive your finger and the screen turns on or off. ..

When I pay 300 dollars for a phone I expect no power button issues. What if I ever needed to boot into download mode or recovery?

Don't get me wrong - I see your point and agree. That being said, if you find yourself in a bind and need to do either of those things (get into download mode or recovery) - as long as you are rooted just grab terminal emulator from the playstore, then open it up and enter
Code:
su
After hitting enter and allowing permissions and all that, you can then enter the following for recovery
Code:
reboot recovery
or enter this for download mode
Code:
reboot download
Figured I'd drop that here just in case, and apologies if you were already aware.
