If she wants that crappy custom version of htc sense, use CR MOD or nbetcher mod. It is the stock T-Mobile 2.2 OTA but with root access and it doesn't flash a new radio or hboot.
If you want something fast and amazing, try CyanogenMod 6 or CyanogenMod 7

I was going to put on CyanogenMod but her phone doesn't recognize her internal sd card. I can get into recovery but cant apply up date nor can I put a rom on her interal drive. Not sure what that's all about. Wish I could use Odin or something.

hi just wanted to know if i can update to the ota 2.2 from without running to problems?? don't care if im gonna lose root access.
i beleive fresh blocks the OTA so you may have to manually update. if it lets yuo download the ota through the settigns then you should not have any problems.
As a note fresh and many others already have 2.2 roms using the new ota out. if rooted you may want to grab one of those since currently thre is NO WAY to reroot your phone on 2.2

Correct,do not upgrade manually, just flash a 1.47 based rom and then the newest Fresh 3.0.1

NO NOT GO TO THE HTC WEBSITE, just flash any 2.2 based rom
either would be ways of manually updating it. I just ment that you cant get the OTA automatically. So you would want to download either the HTC update (killing root chances) or root and download a rooted stock and flash it giving you the best of both worlds.

I need to know before rooting my desire. If i go the Rooting way, will the HTC Sense ROM still be there after rooting and will recovery mode still function?I have to be sure cos im not too familiar with all these android programming stuff. This is my first android phone and i get confused when i see different methods of rooting, flashing Roms and other stuff. Thanks Could you pls direct me to the most useful step by step instrution for rooting and keeping HTC sense
Yes use Unrevoked 3 to root. It will install a custom recovery and the stock rom is still there but you have root permissions now.
once rooted, will you still be able to install an official OTA update from HTC onto the phone?
i've rooted my originally unlocked and unbranded desire but would like confirmation that i'll still be able to install an official OTA update from HTC when the new improved version of Froyo has been by them. Thanks
nope you won't, use one of modified rom's.

You will not be able to install an official OTA update unless you un-root. There are a no of modified Roms out there which apparently are basically rooted versions of Froyo....so if you install one of these you pretty well get your cake and eat it, i.e. you will have installed a version of Froyo which is almost OTA pristine but is rooted. I understand the neophyte Rom is one of these, as is this one:

I can confirm you will need to manually update after doing this
I havean evolution that was rooted with 2.1. I am wondering if I can just put a 2.2 rom on it or should I unroot, update to 2.2 then reroot?
Sent from my face using MINDSPEAK
Isn't an Evolution a car?
Why would you possibly want to un-root?

Just boot into recovery, do a nandroid backup, then a full wipe and flash the new ROM.
Dang auto-correct...no evolution, just an evo...thanks...that's what I thought

Also, i am wondering if i can put the newest official rom on it while its still rooted so it will be stock 2.2 apart from being rooted, and if not, what is the closest to stock 2.2 rom that runs stable and isnt missing anything. Im doing this for a friend and he wants stock 2.2 with root access

Well the general rule for root users (and soon to be root users) is never take the unrooted OTA update from Sprint until an official root method for it has been confirmed. That said, I've read in another thread that Unrevoked 3.21 (or whatever the newest version is) apparently worked perfectly for at least one person.
is there any way to install a rom if im on the new gingerbread 2.3.3 ota?
i want to install the virus kingdom rom and i have to have my phone rooted to do this
im not quite sure what you're asking? can you clarify?? after you root your phone you can flash any ROM compatible with that device
Yes, you have to root. I would suggest unrevoked. www.unrevoked.com

Not currently.
Okay i've been running MIUI forever now, but with all the recent problems and lack of support from the dev i've been forced to give up on MIUI altogether, which really really really angers be, but i have no other choice.
That being said, i just tried to restore to my most recent 'stock' nandroid and when i booted up it kept telling me to upgrade to gingerbread, but if i remember correctly if i do this update i will lose my root..
so can someone point me to the newest rooted stock rom. zip link?
so that i can put it in the root folder of my sd card, boot into recovery and flash it?
and go back to plain old rooted stock ?
