So sick of battery life on this phone..... - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ugh.
I've been through most ROM's and numerous Kernels. Sense ROM's. AOSP ROM's Froyo. GB.....
I am still absolutely totally frustrated by the battery life.
I am currently running SR4 with Lou's number 8. SetCPU with screen off setting 245000
I unplugged my phone at 8:04 this morning. Some light Foursquaring, light Facebook chatting (about 10 messages in total) 4 minutes of phone calls
And I'm down to 67% at 10:11 am.
Totally, totally frustrated by all this.

Facebook chat is constantly cheecking for new messages, turn that junk off.

Have you experimented with undervolting? I can get a day out of my phone pretty easily. Original stock battery that came with the phone on day one, too.

I'm using stock battery as well but with the original cm7.0.3 kernel. which kernel do you have and where can I find it?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA Premium App

I also get at least a day of moderate use. I use chad's incredikernel, the new beta 2, as well as his undervolted script in his op. Check in the dev section.

I can also say that the cm7 / incredikernel combo works extremely well as far as battery life and performance. Can definitely get through the day with moderate use on a charge on the stock battery.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App

it sounds like there might be something keeping your phone awake or you got a bad battery? I've been running SR4 with Lous 8 and easily get a full day's use out of it. bump charge gives me a couple extra hours of juice too. stock battery btw

Also, if you do not have a constant signal, you can say goodbye to your battery. I work in a plant and my phone searches in and out for signal all day. Sometimes bounce from 0-2 bars all day. It doesn't help that I live out in the boonies either
I unplug my phone at 6am every morning and a few text messages and a couple emails later, I'm looking at 25% at 9am.
To back that up, I went to Charlotte this past weekend, I had full service. My phone was off the charger Thursday at 3pm, and headed to Charlotte. My phone did not die until Friday night/ Saturday morning. And I constantly used Facebook BC I was so happy I had enough signal to have it load everything and text like crazy when I went out with my friend.
And now I'm back home, back at work ... enjoying this 3-5 hour use of a battery.
SN: I am using the stock battery. ROM and Kernel is in the sig.

I can take any z rom with ziggys bfs wo havs kernel and get a full fay with moderate to heavy use. Display at 30% brightness an i turn off 3g while driving, use wifi at my house. Do all myfacebook thrubrowser unless i need to upload a pic.. any syncing app is going to kill your battery. I sync the minimum.

I'm using the second beta of Chads Incredikernel. It can be found here:
http://chad0989.dyndns.org/2.6.38.6-incredikernel-beta2.zip
I'm also using an undervolt script that he made, and made some adjustments for even better battery life. There are 3 different undervolt scripts on his downloads page ( http://chad0989.dyndns.org/). They are:
setvdd_levels-4202011_signed.zip
setvdd_levels-5052011_signed.zip
setvdd_levels_signed.zip
The bottom one with no date is the most aggressive, giving you the overall lowest voltages for your CPU. But, it may result in reboots, depending on whether or not your phone will be stable with such low voltages. The 4202011 one is a bit less aggressive, but should be stable on more phones. Finally, the 5052011 one is the least aggressive out of them, but it should be stable (your mileage may vary lol).
If you get reboots with one, flash the next one thats not as aggressive and hopefully it'll work for you. If you get reboots on the least aggressive one, just remove the 95havsvdd file from /system/etc/init.d.
I hope I helped you (and anyone else that may have read this hefty post! Lol)
Sent from my Droid Incredible running CM7.0.3.

I think what you would find if you had a pile of phones at your disposal is that they are all like that. What I would suggest is buy the extended battery from Verizon and have a fatter phone. You will make it through the day on that I would think. GL!

try this
Two things that will kill your battery faster than anything:
-Anything that syncs
-your screen
So, turn your brightness and screen timeout down and turn off anything you don't need syncing all the time, or at least turn the sync frequency down.
Also, keep your wifi, vibration, tactile feedback, and gps off unless you really need it.
Kernels, roms, undervolting...no where near as effective.
Think about your phone as a smaller version of a laptop (which it pretty much is), what's going to save you the most energy: throttling your cpu speed, or turning the screen brightness down?
Much love brother

Random rebooting

For the last week or so my phone just reboots, not sure what is causing it ? I did notice the battery is a little warm but not always it does this 3-4 times a day. I switched roms and kernals with no result. Is my phone junk?
Sent from my HTC Droid Incredible ADR6300 using XDA App
I'd go back to the earlier kernel/rom first (at least another kernel) before saying phone is totaled.
Also know your rom, most aren't vanilla and might be running stuff you don't usually want/need. Turning off, freezing, or uninstalling some of that might help. Grab something like watchdog lite and see if you can pick out what's using most cpu and if you can do without it.
You could have also overclocked too high or made some change the kernel that caused some instability. If you didn't mess with any of that, then I don't know what else to tell you.
If I've helped you, hit the thanks button!
Well thanks for the advice but I've already checked those areas and only ran the kernals that the builders had with the roms. On another note my battery temp hovers around 100 F at idle and goes up when in use, I've noticed reboot when using gps or playing words and sometimes youtube. Might need new battery anyone have any temps to compare?

Do battery calibration after each flash to new ROM, also make sure you are not too undervolted which makes the battery work harder. And do not bump charge battery is set to 100% at about 95% of battery to save battery life. 100% is the worst state a battery can be in.

You could always try flashing the stock RUU from your computer then run your backup. The stock RUU has been known to solve many issues.

I have a battery widget and it fluctuates 3.8-4.05 V but the battery rates at 3.7V ?? Most of the reboots are when the battery is 30% or lower. Last night the battery got to 109 before rebooting while I was using it on the charger. Then vibrated 3 times while the screen was off??? Hopefully this phone makes it 1 more month til new phones hit Verizon.

Battery issues

My phone has TERRIBLE battery life. It lasts about 2 hours usually and sometimes 2 and a half. I'm running the stock GB from that came with the phone, but I am rooted. I have tried every single from out there..none of them give me sufficient battery life. By the time i get home from school by battery is down to 30%. What could be causing this? I'm also on my third warranty replacement phone and my second battery.

This really has no useful information to be helped. 2 hours? On stand by, screen on time, any cpu tuners, etc?
Maybe take screenshots of what the battery chart looks like and what apps have the highest percentage.
It is about 2 and a half hours of screen on time. And I can't get a screenshot of it because I just flashed a new rom, and my battery hasn't had a chance to settle in with the new rom yet. If it doesn't improve I will post a pic of my battery stats. Thanks.

Same problem
I've been experiencing identical issues with my T989. I've had terrible battery life without many apps running in the background (as I use the stock task manager to execute all running apps). I've finally decided to root my device and install a 'set cpu speed' app. Even though I've set my minimum cpu speed to 200 MHz and max to 800 MHz it's still lasts for a maximum of 4 hours until I get the "Battery is critically low" message.
Does samsung provide warranty for their batteries? Because I've called to complain about battery life and they asked me to remove the battery and send the device itself so they could repair it. And under no circumstances would they offer me an exchange for the battery, maybe I just caught a bad rep?
I love this phone and all it's features and prefer this over the iPhone but I feel like i'm being forced to just purchase the iPhone 4s.

Need battery tips for 6+ hrs screen time

Hi guys using wicked with trinity 7b. See a few people posting 2 days on one charge and over 6 hours screen time. Would like to know how as i cannot get anywhere near that. I use system tuner, odex my Rom and kill my tasks whenever possible. I use lh2 modem.
Anyone with huge battery time please help us out here. I'm sure many of us would like some help. Also if you tweak your build.prop press share that.
Looking for details. I'm not a noob

They are not using the stock battery. If you want battery like that, buy an extended battery. That is the only answer.
What I find most telling in many of these screen shots is that Device Idle and Cell Standby are almost always in the top.

Cell standby is actually lying. It was coded with a decimal in the wrong place and so it shows that it uses a lot more than it actually does. Purely cosmetic really, but can be annoying when testing battery issues.
Edit: many custom roms have corrected this btw.

Ya, I saw that before. There is a zip floating around here somewhere that moves it from .34 to 3.4 and fixes it. But you're right that most custom ROMs have this (Cell Standby) fixed.
I just mainly think that Device Idle even being in the top 3 or 4 is a very telling sign that the phone is not being used very much.
Install the easy battery saver app.
I hate to be the jerk... but OP has spammed every rom thread nearly bugging about screen time. Nowadays its hard to get 6+ hours of screen time. Maybe switch to an older, dumber phone with not as sexy as display and you will have better luck. Or carry a spare battery... or strategically place chargers in common spots.

I do all those things (-underclocking and undervolting), and more, because I don't need most of this on all the time, and my screen time is great. Plus, I bought a 4400mah extended battery & get 4-5 days on a single charge.

Rom and kernel and modem used would be helpful.
Also, you did charge but the timer will only reset when you fully charge the phone.

I, personally, don't focus on battery life at all. I run Bluetooth all day, listening to my music, play games on it during my lunch hour and other times throughout the day and send texts/emails off and on all day, and it's down to about 40% by the time I leave work on a normal day. That's unplugging at around 7:30AM, and leaving work at about 5-5:30PM, so that's about 10 hours mid-heavy consistent usage.
To me, as long as I get my full day out of it, I'm perfectly content with it. I don't need my device to be a battery warrior, I need it to be a power beast and do what I want it to do, when I want it to do it. I personally dislike apps like Juice Defender and those that disable radios and data on me. I also don't like using CPU scripts to limit the CPU, undervolt it and all that. To me, it just seems contradicting to buy a powerhouse like the S3 and then strip away it's best and most powerful features. I also don't like the small influx of bugs that arise when you start doing things like disabling data and limiting the CPU/voltage. I like my smartphone to be as smooth as possible, all the time, without any hitches/bugs.
I'm a very heavy user and rely on certain notifications as they are sent out, so extending the battery by an hour or two is the most I could hope to gain by using these apps/scripts, and the level of frustration that come with them when I get syncs late or things are sluggish isn't worth it, imho.
Don't take that the wrong way, I'm not saying they are bad apps at all, nor are the CPU scripts completely pointless. I would give them a high rating if asked, because they do their functions well. I'm just saying they don't work for the way I use my device.
2nd day on Goodness 7.03 with the stock kernel, considering my average use it's pretty sweet by the end of the day.
P.S. loving the goodness, has to be tied with wicked sensations for #1 rom in my book

Battery life, just saying...

For SGS3, out of the box, the battery life is ok, not something to write home about. Yet, if you get rid of the bloatware, freeze some applications you don't intend to use on daily basis you can end up with more than 24 hours of battery life for sure.
Check the attachment and let me know how's yours looking like. I'm curious.
Not to mention use a custom kernel, low screen brightness, turn off auto sync and try to get inverted apps.

Can you please define "pretty good battery"? That's a bit fuzzy. Do you have a picture to prove that?
From you what you see in the attachment of my initial post, I do have close to 8 hours on battery and the current level is (was) at 65%. Indeed there was some charging during the day but I don't count that because I was using the GPS location. This being a battery intensive operation, I didn't count it in.
For me its good enough but me thinks I may delete my wp8 launcher. Everyone has their own standard of what's good and bad battery life. For me I am happy of I can make our most of the day on a single charge which I can. Buy a bigger battery or a spare. Check if any applications are causing drain. Check your settings like GPS, Bluetooth, auto sync etc.
