[Q] Root on DHD 1.84 with s-off - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i know there are many thread open for this rooting problem. but currently my dhd already s-off by xtc clip. and how am i to get root with it?
tried,
vissionary+ - no can do
superoneclick - still cannot
AMT tools - temp root failure

Visonary+ only works with 1.32.
So you need to follow the downgrade guide.
But, if i think about it (although im not 100% sure if this will work), if you have ENG S-OFF, you could flash CWM recovery in FastBoot USB then flash Custom/Stock ROMs through that.
But doesnt S-OFF need root access?
anyway, getting root access with visionary+ needs 1.32

im using xtc clip to try to root by s-off dhd

[Q] I'm A DUMMY. I KNOW

I'm ready to root and I've been reading and reading and reading and reading and I just don't understand how to root. I need a dummy proof way a step by step system to get this done. I know that my hboot is 0.97.0000. Someone please help me. I ready just need a more detailed root method. Thanks
Try this and skip the ota if you want to keep 0.97. http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/forever You can later flash the latest ota ruu in recovery
Unrevoked Forever doesn't root the phone. It does NAND unlock (S-OFF) which allows you to flash custom ROMs.
You said your HBOOT is 0.97, so you can probably use Unrevoked 3.21/3.22 one click root to root your phone.
[ROOT] unrEVOked 3.21: one-click root for Froyo, no downgrading
[GUIDE] One Click How to Root EVO with Unrevoked 3.21 *NEW EVO'S WONT WORK 11.16.10*
Will I be able to use wireless tethering
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Once you are rooted, you can download the Wireless Tethering app from market.

Help rooting evo

Hey folks.Im trying to root my buddys evo and want to make sure i have everything in order before i go forward..
hboot is version 0.97
software 3.29.651.5
so im hoping i can just use the unrevoked forever to root his phone. Is this correct? It says i need a custom recovery how do i make a custom recovery so i can use the unrevoked forever?
Unrevoked Forever does not root, unrevoked3 does.
Since his HBOOT is 0.97, then yes you can use unrevoked3 to root.
[ROOT] unrEVOked 3.21: one-click root for Froyo, no downgrading
[GUIDE] One Click How to Root EVO with Unrevoked 3.21 *NEW EVO'S WONT WORK 11.16.10*
Ok..thanks for the help.I installed unrevoked3 and it finished.I have the superuser icon also.BUT if i open hboot it still says s-on? Im confused about that.It looks like i got root but why is it saying S-on in hboot?
If anyone else has this same problem, here is what i did to get s-off.
After you use the unrevoked3 you now have ClockworkMod Recovery.Go download the Unrevoked Forever and put it on the root of you sd card. Now restart your phone in Hboot and go to recovery. When your in ClockworkMod Recovery you will see install zip from sd card, click.Find the Unrevoked Forever you just put on your sd card and run it.After it is finished you should now have S-Off .
Wooot!!

Failed Root Every Time Help!

Howdy!
I just had my phone refurbished and I wanted to root my phone. I can't root though. I've used Unrevoked and even Super One Click and they don't permanent root my desire. What in the world is going on? I can't even access the play store or YouTube anymore. Is there a way of rooting my phone so I can s-off and install a new rom?

revolutionary does not root your phone, it gives you S-OFF, therefore the ability to flash custom recoveries, radios, bootloaders etc.
S-OFF and Root are not the same. Root means that you have root (admin) access in the Android system, while with S-OFF you are able to do as mentioned above.
So OP, if you want root, you need to S-OFF with revolutionary, flash a custom recovery, and then (OPTIONAL!) flash superuzer.zip from recovery to gain root access to your stock ROM. If you flash custom firmware it already comes with root access.

Problems with debranding

Hello,
My friend has a htc wildfire phone and he asked me to root and install cyanogenmod for him. I was planning on installing this particular rom on his phone : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1143125
Before installing this rom, I followed these guides to debrand, root and install cwm recovery on the phone:
1.[REF/GUIDE] [29/07] The Complete Wildfire Index
2.[FULL GUIDE] Rooting HTC Wildfire (BUZZ) 2.2.1 with HBOOT 1.01.0002 !! (5/8/2011)
3.[Full Guide] All in one - De-branding, rooting and flashing for all HBOOT versions
I am having problems with unlocking the BL. I cant seem to get the HBOOT down to 1.01.0001. Tried the htcdev method and was able to unlock my BL but my HBOOT ver. is now 1.20.xxxx and i am not able to root the phone. I had tried all of 3 guides above to debrand the phone but no success.
In the buzzdowngrade part of the instructions, i successfully complete the step1.bat and the gold card part. Step2.bat also completes but when i go back into HBOOT i saw no change, hence i went the htcdev way and now my HBOOT is 1.20.xxx Any advices how to root now??

[Q] Tips on ROOTing - Desire HD, HTCdev unlocked, CWM recovery, 2.3.5 sense 3.0

Hi All,
I've been trying to S-OFF my desire HD, since the AAHK has been retired I've been trying to follow attn1's high level instructions found at attn1's blog.
So far I've:
HTCdev unlocked my bootloader (needed to upgrade the RUU using a goldcard)
Flashed CWM recovery
Now I'm trying to gain root access to continue, I got some questions about this:
Since I have an unlocked bootloader do I need to use and exploit (fre3or, Zergrush, tarcoroot) to gain root access or is there another way to do this?
If I do need to use an exploit, I've read tarcoroot is the only one that works on 2.3.5 (I've tried the other 2, they don't work), can you gain permanent root by using su, superuser and busybox after gaining temp root with tarcoroot? Or do I need to downgrade ROM with tarcoroot and then use one of the other 2 exploits to then gain perm root?
Any help in pointing me in the right direction would be awesome.

If you use any of the exploits here or here you should be fine
You don't need S-Off to root if you've already unlocked your bootloader and flashed a recovery. Just flash either a Superuser apk or a rooted ROM from recovery.
