2.3.3. Hardwarre Keyboard Issues - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I updated my G2 to the Gingerbread 2.3.3 version and I noticed that when using the hardware keyboard (Not the virtual one) the lights either don't stay on for very long or don't come on at all. Is anyone else noticing this issue or do I have a sensor going?

yes seen this happen too..

[Q] keyboard backlight issues with official gingerbread leak (not rooted)

Is anyone else having issues with their keyboard backlight with the official non-rooted gingerbread leak? Mine seems to not stay lit in dark rooms, and I don't remember having as much of an issue with this with froyo. Trying to narrow this down to either the rom or the sensor itself. Putting my thumb over the sensor also doesn't consistently trigger the light back on either.

It did that for me with several roms. I reflashed the final gingerbread leak and seems to have gone away. Actually I was having problems with the test leak not lighting up keyboard, but for some reason after flashing the nandroid I made of the leak and light worked fine.
I guess I'm trying to say its not the device

Same issues her . But I've been running sense 3.0 for almost 2 weeks now and it sees to back to normal ..
Same issue with my G2 after dropping the leaked "official" gingerbread update on my device that was running stock unrooted Froyo. Thinking it might be worthwhile to push the update again, somehow, or clear the device entirely and try it again?
I have a new (10 days old) untouch, no mods at all and the keyboard light is not working in a consitant manner - did anyone ever get to the bottom of this one - beit a software or hardware correction. Cheers..

cm7 keyboard lag

I'm not sure if anyone else has run into this issue or maybe it's just my phone but my keyboard seems to lag (both stock android and smart keyboard pro). When I hit a key, it refuses to respond. I'll have to "warm up" my phone a bit by leaving it on for about 15 seconds before I can start typing comfortably, where every key is responding.
suggestions? known issue on all ROMs?
...or just my phone?
I noticed this too on AOSP ROMs but only when I had the phone plugged in. When I installed the Tiamat kernel it disappeared. What keyboard are you using? If it uses a dictionary it might need to be reset.

I'm running the tiamat kernel, too. I experience the issue on android and smart keyboard pro.
*wait, I just checked and I'm running cm7 kernel. let me try flashing tiamat again and see if that fixes the issue
**nope, I don't think flashing tiamat worked. I changed governor to "performance" so let's see what happens then
***I guess the issue is with cm7. I experienced keyboard lag with omfgb and cm7. not a fan of MIUI so I'm not sure if there's keyboard lag on that ROM. I'm running TSM now and experiencing no lag with the keyboard (or any keyboard) so I think the problem is with AOSP ROMs.
I have the same lag with any keyboard I use. I also had the same problem with my Tbolt. This happens regardless of charging or not.
I don't mean to hijack the thread but has anyone else noticed a bad lag with the XDA app? I hate it. I press see the general section and nothing happens so I hit it again and BAM it loads and in a specific thread. I understand it takes a little bit of time to build the long list of forums but not a general section of the INC2 or other device.

[Q] Netflix and back lit keys RandomROM Hawk v.2

When I play a video on Netflix, the back lit keys never turn off. I never had this problem with any other players nor on SyndicateROM Frozen. I haven't had the chance to test it on other ROMs yet, but I was curios if anyone else had a similar problem?
Same here, I was wondering if that was normal

This was fixed in froyo on the last netflix update, so maybe it will be fixed for GB on th next.
I hope so. I don't think Netflix will fix this for the Epic until official gb.
EDIT: I have heard of apps like LEDs Hack and Screen Filter that will disable the softtkey's backlight, but they didn't work on the Epic. Anyone know of any apps that will disable the softkey backlight?

Update: even though Netflix now supports 2.3 and 2.2, I still have the same problem.

[Q] Weird keyboard behavior in 2.3.x (official and Cyanogenmod 7.2)

Hi. I have been having this problem for some time now. When I install any firmware based on gingerbread, my keypad behaves strange: the space bar doesn't always work, works only about 50% of the time. It does this only if the phone is rotated to the left. when I hold the phone straight up, the keyboard works just fine, and it even works fine when I rotate it to the right. When I install any official firmware based on froyo, the issue is gone. Even when I use the unofficial Cyanogenmod 7.2 the keyboard annoys the hell out of me. I have tried some official firmwares based on gingerbread and all of them had this issue. It is like if the few millimeters on the left side of my phone were not touch sensitive... I did many formats etc. and nothing helped (only installing 2.2.1 fixed it). Anyone had the same issue? Or knows of any solution?
Thanks.
Maybe calibrating sensors ??

I think I have the same issue with CM 7.2 (dunno about 2.3.x, I was on 2.2.1 before going to CM7.2). For now I just use SwiftKeys and type in portrait mode.
Can I calibrate the touch sensor somehow?
i had the same problem + the " . " key didn't work
the solution for me, as strange it may sound, was to (re)install gapps. the only version that worked was this one
if you run out of options, feel free to try it.
ps: must flash it in cwm recovery mode
I tried the google apps but still nothing. Any other advice? I downgraded the FW - I'm currently using the official S5660XXKC5 (2.2.1 Froyo) and the keypad works flawlessly. That's really weird. Why is it broken only in gingerbread? Well I don't know why I should use gingerbread anyway, because my experience is that it eats more RAM, ROM and battery, but you know, I would like to find out what's causing this idiotic keypad behavior...

[Q] Touch stops working for some letters

Hi folks,
I'm not sure what's up with my phone. I have CM10 beta on it and since earlier today the D button on the keyboard is completely unusable. Also, I have a hard touch hitting R. I have tried touching the same area in other apps and it seems to work fine. Maybe there's a tool out there I could use to confirm this?
I had this happen before on an earlier build of CM10. When it happened before (and as of now), rebooting doesn't fix it. Last time I gave up and just upgraded my CM10 ROM, and it has been working ever since (around a month or so).
Today, the touch screen experienced some "glitches". What I mean is, I took it out to use it and it seemed like it was detecting touch/drag events in various spots, and I had to put it to sleep to get it working again.
I have no idea where to start with diagnosing this. It doesn't seem to be a hardware issue, since re-flashing before fixed it. Any ideas?
Go back to stock, if you have the same problem then it will probably be hardware issues.
