My desire HD has been restored from a custom ROM using the RUU, but it's been rooted, with ENG-OFF etc. but still on the stock HTC rom. However I still haven't received the OTA Gingerbread update, despite friends on the same network and with the same phone having received it. Does restoring it using an RUU or having it rooted affect in any way receiving the update?
I know I can update via the new RUU, but I'm just interested to know why I haven't received it. Any help is really appreciated

maybe... but its strange...
can you leave here what´s your currently rom exactly? version,,, kernel,,,, etc etc...
in theory it´s going to receive gingerbread update all the people that has 2.2.1 froyo.... if i´m not mistaken its 1.8xxxx
but ei!.. you can update your device from HTC SYNC without problems if you are sure that you have a WEE OFFICIAL RUU... SYNC APP is going to identify your device like a unbreanded phone and is going to give to you an update
Kernal version: 2.6.32.21 -gf3f553d [email protected] #1

hope this helps
The official OTA has not yet been rolled out to everybody. It is slated for the 16th, so if you don't get it by end of Monday, maybe contact your carrier. http://www.gsmarena.com/htc_desire_...gingerbread_on_16_may_in_the_uk-news-2638.php

Indeed. ^^^^^^^^^^
As an example: I had an HTC Hero - rooted, stock WWE(pretty much). The phone would recognise that an OTA update was available but wouldn't install properly because of the custom recovery I had installed. The update notification took a few extra days to appear on my phone comparative to other peoples phones....(not that it mattered really, to install it I had to flash a new ROM anyways.)
........in other words, patience is a virtue. You'll get the update very shortly.
well can be possible that he don´t received the update because his carrier don´t launched it...
but I THINK that (reading his verion of RUU etc...) he is not going to receive OS 2.3 because he is in the android 2.2 (1.32 older)
for receive the update (for do a correct and estable update) he should to udate to 1.8xxx OS 2.2.1...
i repeat...only i think that he should do it...
if he rejected the 2.2.1 update... maybe its not going to arrive him the 2.3.3 update...
it can carry problems...
but i repeat... for ensure of it you can try htc sync and verify if it´s available an update for your device...
Thanks for all the info. I ended up just using the new RUU, couldnt wait to try out ginerbread any longer

DO NOT OTA update while you are rooted!
Download this, install and you have official FroYo
Thanks for the info as the phone is unlocked and rooted is it still on Orange?

Nope, you're stuffed until someone works out how to break in to the new HBoot, which may be soon, or may be never.
You should have read the forums first.

hi guys please help me i am pulling my hair out, I have a htc desire from germany via a parrelell importer, i recently tried updating to froyo ota my phone is unbranded and not rooted, how ever now when i start it i get a message saying system failure force close/wait, i have made a gold card, and placed roms on etc but it doesnt seem to reconize them on sd card and says signature failure, also before that while in reocvery it comes up with e:cant open /cache/recovery/command,
im at a dead end please some one help me i will love u long time!
I think you Desire is unbranded, can you use sim cards from different carriers?
If yes no goldcard is needed
ok im confused, tried to search everywhere for this but have not found a straight answer...
i had my phone rooted but then decided to downgrade back to stock using PB31IMG.zip which restores the phone to prior May OTA.
Current Software Info:
FW: 2.1-update1
BB: 1.00.03.04.06
Build: 1.22.605.0 CL161493 release-keys
SW #: 1.22.605.0
my question is...
do i need to install the may OTA before i can receive the 'official' 2.2 OTA or am i already set to receiving it. PS: im not planning on doing the manual update, just want to know if im ok.
thanks.
A follow up question to Loading; There are comments around about the revision number for HBOOT, required for the OTA. HNOOT is not listed under the software display screen in Settings. Instead you need to power down and boot into HBOOT. You do this pressing Volume Down and Power, at the same time. In my case, I did receive the May 2.1 OTA. However, HBOOT reports I have version .77. Several scattered posts and threads say you need version .79. There is another thread running currently about how to update HBOOT. But the answer was to bump up to version .92. Not sure what version the 2.2 OTA requires. It might be helpful to know and/or confirm what exactly is required, at a minimum. Here is a post where a user upgraded to .79, but now says "revoked3 won't root my phone anymore."
I may need to change my user name to "craZy1" after reading through all these rooting posts.
Sorry for not showing my links, but I had to remove links to other posts, since my message count is low. Do not want to lose any posting privileges
never mind i figured it out, finally received the 2.2 ota...

This is probobly a silly question... but how do I get the May OTA applied without clockwork? I have S-OFF, and then downgraded back to stock but I never got an OTA pop up to update the May OTA...
Hi i just checked out of routine waiting for gingerbread lol sad,but anyway htc have released a system update looks like just simple updates etc. my phone just wont allow it for some reason, when i had my upgrade it was on vodafone, but changed the rom to an unbranded rom.so i could get froyo. I had the first update they let out in november but this one just wont have it.my phone displays the red triangle.ive read briefly on here could be the rom i installed casuing this
my question is until gingerbread arrives is it worth faffing around changing roms etc just for this maninentence update.
also if i decided to use one of these customs roms and root etc,is it easy to revert the phone back to the current state if i wanted stock gingerbread
You can get FroYo. There is no 'stock gingerbread'.
Gingerbread is not officially available for Desire, and probably won't be for a few months.
If you root your phone, you can have gingerbread and yes you can go back to stock.
Just got the update as well - is there a changelog somewhere?
What update? I don't get no OTA at this time...
If your talking about the 2.29.405.5 OTA for some reason it can't be applied to debranded phones as it detects the original branding. I had the same problem. with my orange uk desire. The only way to apply it is to run the RUU for this update.

if it is the 2.29.405.5 update there's another thread discussing what may have changed.
There's some suggestion that its a few camera fixes
as i have a problem to ota update to 2.2.5 from 2.2.3 i think i have to downgrade to froyo and then to try update to 2.2.5.when i bought the phone i got message for some small ota update then after couple of days i got message for 2.2.5 update but my phone says that i cannot update because i have unofficial soft inside?!the phone is almost new, never been rooted on so
I dont think you can downgrade and I dont think this is an option you want to pursue.
Maybe you can unlock the phone and wipe it and flash an official 2.3.5 RUU.
However you dont sound like you are too interested in learning too much due to your lack of research in xda (not a bad thing, some people just arent) so if the phone is almost new you could perhaps take it back and get the shop to sort it out.
scott
Froyo? 2.2.3?
You mean 2.3.5 and 2.3.3

you need to be s-off for it to work, from what I tried.
Sent from my Desire HD using xda premium
You may be right about s-off, i think its all gonna depend on versions of radio and hboot etc included in the ruu. Maybe the OP can extract the system image from the ruu and flash just that but its all gonna need some research by the OP I think.

hey,
i have a small question. one month ago i rooted my phone and after some time i had signal problems. i brought it back to my provider and they repaired it. it was a software fail they said.
well last time a did a ota update before i unlocked it and flashed a custom rom.
currently i am on hboot-0.94.0000 and software version: 1.28.169.9
my baseband is: 1.1204.103.14
a ota update is avalible again. i didnt do it yet.
my question is if i shall do the ota update and flash after it a rom or forget the ota update and do it directly. i dont want to have the problem again like last time.
Cheers
EDIT: i have a branded phone from austria

Hey, nice to see you on this device now. Loved your stuff on DHD. But on topic, I wouldnt update with ota. Just because if an s-off exploit is
Found in an older h boot, your not gonna be able to downgrade to achive s-off. I'm still on the original h boot mine came with hoping for s-off soon,
