[Q] Regarding May OTA and 2.2 OTA - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ok im confused, tried to search everywhere for this but have not found a straight answer...
i had my phone rooted but then decided to downgrade back to stock using PB31IMG.zip which restores the phone to prior May OTA.
Current Software Info:
FW: 2.1-update1
BB: 1.00.03.04.06
Build: 1.22.605.0 CL161493 release-keys
SW #: 1.22.605.0
my question is...
do i need to install the may OTA before i can receive the 'official' 2.2 OTA or am i already set to receiving it. PS: im not planning on doing the manual update, just want to know if im ok.
thanks.

A follow up question to Loading; There are comments around about the revision number for HBOOT, required for the OTA. HNOOT is not listed under the software display screen in Settings. Instead you need to power down and boot into HBOOT. You do this pressing Volume Down and Power, at the same time. In my case, I did receive the May 2.1 OTA. However, HBOOT reports I have version .77. Several scattered posts and threads say you need version .79. There is another thread running currently about how to update HBOOT. But the answer was to bump up to version .92. Not sure what version the 2.2 OTA requires. It might be helpful to know and/or confirm what exactly is required, at a minimum. Here is a post where a user upgraded to .79, but now says "revoked3 won't root my phone anymore."
I may need to change my user name to "craZy1" after reading through all these rooting posts.
Sorry for not showing my links, but I had to remove links to other posts, since my message count is low. Do not want to lose any posting privileges

no, i had to manually install the may ota then a couple hours later i finally received the 2.2 notice (might be coincidence but what the heck it worked)

This is probobly a silly question... but how do I get the May OTA applied without clockwork? I have S-OFF, and then downgraded back to stock but I never got an OTA pop up to update the May OTA...

EVO Wont update to 1.32.651.6

I never really kept track of the version numbers so I thought they were normal updates... But they started to happen suspiciously often so I decided to keep track of it this time.. Apparently my (rooted) EVO will not properly isntall 1.32.651.6 . It will just try to apply it, reboot, and then go back to 1.32.651.1 . Anyone else experiencing this?

Lol, don't be scared. It is a typical disclaimer.
Even if you do brick your phone, take it to Sprint and say the OTA bricked it.!!

Is that the full OTA 1.32.651.6 update or just the radio?

I believe Toast's root method (and therefore pretty much all of the roots/ROMS out there) already has the initial SD Card/Security OTA update applied

The link above is just the Radio image which was part of the OTA update.
Neither of Toast's PC36IMG.zip files have the OTA applied. They are pre release engineering and user debugging versions of the stock ROM which were used to unlock NAND and Root the device.
Pretty much all of the baked ROMs available for DL will already have the .6 OTA integrated. You can check and see by looking in Settings / About Phone / Software Information and look for Firmware Version 2.1-update 1 and Build Number 1.32.651.6 .....
If you want the stock ROM, rooted, Flipz released it a day or two after the OTA came out. You can find it here as well.
i believe my phone couldn't update from 2.1 to 2.2 because i used the unrevoked method of rooting. in order for me to get 2.2 i updated my phone with the pc36img.zip file and then rooted again with unrevoked.
Now when i'm trying update from 2.2 with the new 3.29.651.5 update, the phone will have the triangle with a exclamation point.
Any ideas? thanks

you can hit menu then settings scroll down to system updates then HTC software update. That should do it for you. It will take a little while to update so don't shut the phone off and make sure you have a good charge on the battery. Hope that helps you out....

Don't do the early one there were issues to get the phone back to an official version. Weird that you can't get the update... have you checked your software version that's currently on the phone? Maybe you already have the update.

Well, first you need to get updated to software version 1.47. I'm not sure where you would get the OTA update for it. The easiest way to do it, which actually won't really require any other updating, is to download the latest RUU for 2.2. You need a windows computer and HTC Sync set up for all the drivers.
Just use this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=746705
This method will wipe your phone, so backup your data.
You're running an old software version. You need to flash a stock rooted or unrooted version. The one you're looking for is 147.651. Check Whitslack's starting over thread in the development forum.

So that's why I never got an update notification: I was running 1.32.
wow this totally worked u were right i think this is alot of peoples problem and they dont noe but this totally worked i got the updated 2.2 up and runninig on my fone thx alot =] this should deffenetly be posted everywhere alot of people are waiting for that update on there fone but they dont realize wat i learned just now
Does anyone else think its weird that Sprint/HTC would offer the 1.47 update "for a limited time only"? So you can't update from 1.32 to 3.26 and anyone who opted out of the 1.47 from 1.32 no longer has the 1.47 update available to them?

I don't think they thought about it in those terms. Why would they limit users from being able to upgrade? Unless they really want their store employees to be spending floor time doing the upgrade for you when you can't do it yourself down the line.
i am at 1.32 and when i hit check for updates i still get prompted to download the 1.47 (no froyo yet, but if i update, i am sure froyo will come sooner or later)....i heard froyo needs 1.47 in place first.
**BTW, does anyone know where the 1.47 update is stored on the phone??? i just downloaded it and removed my memory card, but still get prompted to install...i want to find it and try to take it apart??

?????

That update.zip is in place from when you rooted your phone. I'm guessing you used Simple Root, or else you'd remember putting it there yourself.

Upgrading hboot?

If I'm running skyraider 2.5.2 sense, 2.15 radio and .77 hboot. A few questions...
1) is there a way to upgrade hboot?
2) is .79 the most up to date version? If not, what is?
3) if I can upgrade, is there a reason to? What is the difference between the different versions of hboot?
No reason, newer HBOOTs don't really offer you any performance increase.
Upgrading to hboot 0.79 is required for successfully installing the 2.2 OTA from Verizon (not leaked version). Can someone please answer this post? There appear to be a bunch of us stuck at this point.
Akhnaten
BTW, the error the update gives is "Signature verification failure" or something like that. This is occuring with hboot 0.77.
There appears to be an updated hboot in the May OTA update. You can find the file for the upgrade at the link. I will try this out and post an update.

Ok, but what steps do we follow to upgrade hboot to 0.79 so that we can install the 2.2 OTA update?
I thought .92 hboot was out.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=757798
http://adrynalyne.us/
0.92 (or something in that range) is the version that comes with Froyo 2.2. We are talking about trying to get to Froyo 2.2 while maintaining root. When I reverted to the May OTA to upgrade from version 0.77 to 0.79, that did the trick for the upgrade. Unfortunately, step 5 in the thread post by k.electron in the "[Q] Want root AND want OTA" thread does not work. I guess I undid the root work when I reverted. Now all I get after step 5 is my phone shakes at me 5 times when I try to go into hboot. Fortunately, I can still boot my phone regularly after a battery pull. BTW, when I say "May OTA" I mean the rom version 1.22.605.2 at the link I posted earlier.

Should we host this file here? I don't want to cause adrynalyne any bandwidth issues with a direct link to his page.

That is the HTC diagnostic mode when it vibrates multiple times. S-off unlocked it. SEARCH THE FORUM it is a common problem.
Thanks for the reply, ToyTank. I haven't looked up what the correct way to get out of diagnostic mode is yet, but I will give one final update.
I tried to reflash (ruu) the 605.2 rom and it failed. However, in the process it got me back into hboot mode. I then noticed that I was still in s-off mode. I switched to using the appropriate directions on this thread:
Condition 3, in particular
I skipped the installing 2.2 part since I had that already (from Verizon) and the rest went great. Now I am running OTA 2.2 with s-off and root.
Can someone recommend a 2.2 rom w/o all the crapware from Verizon?
Thanks,
Akh
Instead of loading a different ROM, get Titanium Backup and remove the apps you do not want.

Trying to downgrade and take OTA

This is where I am:
Im having a new problem now. I got as far as the downgrade last night, unrevoked forever, hboot 0.77, Firmware, 2.1update1, baseband 1.00.03.04.06, kernel, 2.6.29-cc1c2268, build number 1.22.605.0 CL161493 release-keys, software number 1.22.605.0, Browser WebKit3.1, PRI 1.28_008, PRL 40067, ERI Version 5
In my research last night doing this I would take the official OTA thru the phone via OTA. This did not happen. Also, from further reading today, some are saying Hboot 0.77 wont take the OTA via OTA... so...
At this point, I am beginning to think I could be in way over my head. Can someone tell me how to get my phone back to stock and at the most current update?
Thanks in advance.
Just a note. I returned both my wife's and my (work) phone to stock about a week ago. I have not yet recieved the update and she has. It's still being rolled out and (as far as I can tell from communication with VZW) could take up to a month to actually hit your phone.
I didn't even bother with my personal phone. CM6 goodness there.
Search the threads for an RUU that puts your software to 1.22.605.2 will probably have .79 hboot included. Try that. Or you can also search for a copy of the update.zip. But I believe you still need 1.22.605.2 to get that to work.

[Q] Official Update Not Working

Hey guys, I should have posted this about a month (maybe even longer) ago, but I've been dealing with some health issues and couldn't be bothered. First off I have a rooted phone (with S-OFF) but I like keeping the stock sense build. I upgraded OTA to 2.2 some time ago, then there was an OTA update a few months after that (which I was able to install without any problems after I replaced a couple of files that had gotten modified), now this newer OTA update refuses to install.
It tells me it needs to reboot to start installing so I click the button to reboot and it counts down, but it never reboots. Is it somehow detecting that my phone is rooted? I would like to have the most up to date OTA update installed on my phone at all times so any help or ideas would be great (also I'm sorry if this has been covered before, I did search but I've been afk for a bit so I might have missed some things).

Blah I have to go back to 2.2 stock? Oh well, it's not the worse thing in the world (I already had to do it once) and those are great instructions (plus I've wanted to have the latest version of Clockworkmod installed for a while and using Unrevoked means I won't have to mess with the payload/su/etc files). Thanks!
I also thought of something (kind of late though). I was using a custom kernel, which might have been the issue too. But I went ahead and re-enabled S-On, however now for some reason my phone is checking for errors on my SD card (no idea how long it will take, or why it's doing that), but does anyone have a link for that 17.7mb file of the 3.26.605.1 update? I found the full RUU, but it's huge and I rather just upgrade than possibly wipe everything out (and I don't know when my phone will have the OTA ready again). Thanks for any help!
Is it necessary to update or downgrade then upgrade the OS?

That seems to be what that linked thread says, but I don't believe that is correct (that's why I am looking for that 17.7mb OTA file). I was able to install the first 2.2 update (aka 2.2.1) without issue after I restored some files that were altered (either by rooting or installing the wireless tether app that's hosted on Google Code). However this OTA update (aka 2.2.2) isn't popping up again for me to install, so I am going to see if I can extract just the upgrade data from the official RUU. I have to wait until later tonight because I need my phone to be operational for another few hours but I'll post back with results (and files if need be =).
Yeah I tried the RUU update and as expected it did a total wipe... bringing back system via nandroid and will try something else.
Edit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=969973 <= using Jay's thread, which is much like the post that was first given to me in this thread. Not re-enabling S-ON seems to be the problem... lesson learned, don't try shortcuts unless you know what you are doing (and I've been afk from the "Dinc Scene" too long for that =p.
Edit 2: Up to date and 100% working!
